The return of the POTD Section brings with it a an awesomely awesome Pokemon.
Misdreavus was arguably the GREATEST Ghost Pokemon in the Metal Era of Pokemon.
She was also the ONLY Ghost Pokemon to arrive in the Metal Era, but details like
that are frivolous anyway. Let's fire this analysis up, shall we?

Posted Image

#200 - Misdreavus
Type - Ghost
Screech Pokemon
Height - 2'04"
Weight - 2.2 lbs.

Traits:
Levitate: Ignores Ground-Type moves and Spikes.

Evolution Chain:
Evolves to Mismagius with a Dark Stone

Appearances: Gold, Silver, Crystal, Colosseum, LeafGreen, Pearl

I've noticed that Misdreavus gets moved around quite a bit in terms of appearance.
In the Metal Era, she can be found inside the Silver Cave, but only at night. In Colosseum,
she must be snagged from Rider Vant in Pyrite Town. In LeafGreen, she hides in
the Lost Cave. Pearl places her in two different locations: The Eterna Forest and the
Lost Tower, both at night.

Moveset:
Trait: Levitate
Item: King's Rock

Stats:
HP: 324
Attack: 219
Defense: 219
Special Attack: 269
Special Defense: 269
Speed: 269

Confuse Ray
Shadow Ball
Will-o-wisp
Perish Song

I love quite a few Pokemon from the Metal Era, and Misdreavus ranks pretty high
on that list. Also, she was the first Ghost Pokemon to not be weak against the
mortal enemies of her bretheren: The Psychic Types. Now, that's just Grand.

Confuse Ray: Greatest Move Ever. As we all know by now, Confuse is the one status
that no item can immediately cure, save the one use berries. The status buys time
for you, can cause damage to the opponent, and possibly even force your opponent
to switch out, giving you a greater advantage.

Shadow Ball is our generic STAB'd "Immahityounowkay?" move. Thankfully, Misdreavus
learns this naturally: I wouldn't waste my TM30 on a non-evolved Pokemon. Hell, I
wouldn't use it on Mismagius, either: This line leans toward a support role. However,
it doesn't hurt to have some kind of damaging ability.

Will-o-wisp is our second support move. This move is the first and only move to
cause a direct, 100% chance burn upon your opponent. Burning your opponent can
lower their attack along with the generic damage dealing you'd expect from burns.
Now, if we could just get a move like this for the Freeze status or something...

We all remember Misdreavus for one main thing: The Perish Song attack. This was
Misdreavus' shining beacon of hope in the Pokemon games. Once the move is used,
both you and your enemy faint in three turns. Granted, your opponent could switch
out, but this could just put you in a better position. It's like gambling, but funner
and virtual.

The King's Rock is there because I have nothing else. No Joke. Seriously, you have
no idea how long I was trying to think of another item for Misdreavus. It took about
ten minutes to come up with the idea of the King's Rock. Besides, i'll have something
for Mismagius.

There's always quite a bit you can do with support Pokemon in the alternate moves
department. Thunder Wave, for example, is fun for the really obnoxious confusion
and paralysis status effect. You can also go with Mean Look to augment Perish Song,
Pain Split, Memento...I'm sure you can even think an idea up.

And that's Misdreavus. Join me tomorrow, everyone!
