Today's Pokemon is Magmar!! Magmar is sex incarnate in a Fire-Type. In fact, Magmar and his evolution, Magmortar, are the best Fire Pokemon in the game. I don't care what anyone else says, for they are the best EVAR. #126 - Magmar Type - Fire Spitfire Pokemon Height - 4'03" Weight - 98.1 lbs. Traits: Flame Body: Opponent has a thirty percent chance of being burned upon contact with Magmar. Evolution Chain: Evolves from Magby at Level 30; Evolves to Magmortar by being traded while holding a Magmarizer. Appearances: Blue, Gold, Silver, Crystal, LeafGreen, XD, Diamond, Pearl Magmar is found in the wild in all of the above games, with the exception of D/P. In Blue, Magmar is inside the burned-down Cinnabar Mansion. In the metal series, Magmar can be found in the Burned Tower. LeafGreen finds our lovable Spitfire Pokemon moved from the mansion to Mt. Ember. In XD, you can snag a Shadow Magmar from a Cipher Peon in Citadark Isle. D/P poses a different way to catch a Magmar, but you need to evolve him from a Magby. With LeafGreen in the GBA slot, you'll find Magbies holding Magmarizers in Route 227 and Stark Mountain. Moveset: Item: Muscle Band Trait: Flame Body Stats: HP: 334 Attack: 289 Defense: 213 Special Attack: 299 Special Defense: 269 Speed: 285 Flamethrower Thunder Punch Brick Break Confuse Ray Magmar's stats are pretty acceptable for what is now an unevolved Pokemon. This is good, because not much has to be changed now. You'll see that Magmar's attack stats are only ten points apart. This allows more diversity in his movepool. Ok, why do you think Flamethrower is on this moveset? Is it for the 95 base power and STAB'd goodness? Or is it for magical unicorns hunting for Candy Mountain? You decide, fool. In all seriousness, though, let's just continue. Thunder Punch isn't something you generally expect from a Fire Pokemon. Magmar's attack stat allows you to use moves like this, because he can still do damage with these moves while retaining a respectable amount of attack power. This lets him cover more bases than his counterpart, Electabuzz. Brick Break is here to break bricks. By bricks, I mean all those Rock/Ground types that are immune to Thunder Punch and have a resistance to Flamethrower. Brick Break is also useful for breaking moves like Reflect and Light Screen, shattering any real Psuedo-passers hopes and dreams into a fine paste. Confuse Ray is STILL the best move in the Pokemon world, and it always will be. Magmar can have fun making the opponents hit themselves shitless while he shoves Flamethrowers and Brick Breaks down their throats, gullets, or whatever throat the Pokemon opponent happens to have. Confuse Ray is also a good move to force a switch, if you can couple it with a burn or paralyis. The Muscle Band will increase the power of physical attacks slightly. Since most of the moves on this moveset are Physical, and not STAB'd, this can help boost the power of said moves. Alternate move time. Psychic is a nice special alternate to Brick Break. The move seems to find its way onto Magmortar's moveset, so you might as well kill two birds with one stone. If you use Overheat and a White Herb, you have what is basically an Exploder that takes out two opponents before dying. Alright. Now, you can hopefully join me tomorrow for another Pokemon Of The Day! |
