Today's Pokemon is Kingdra! I like Kingdra for two main reasons. First, she was the only new Dragon-type in the GSC Era. Second, she's one of the few Dragon-types that isn't weak to Ice. This has made her a strong contender in the Pokemon games. #230 - Kingdra Type - Water/Dragon Dragon Pokemon Height - 5' 11" Weight - 336 lbs. Abilities: Swift Swim - Increases Speed in the Rain Sniper - Base Power increased during a critical hit Evolution Chain: Evolves from Seadra after traded with a Dragon Scale Availability: Gold, Silver, Crystal, FireRed, LeafGreen, Diamond, Pearl Kingdra is never found in the wild, but you can get a Seadra in every game listed above, except in LeafGreen. You'll need to get a Horsea to evolve there. Moveset: Item: Leftovers Ability: Sniper Stats: HP: 354 Attack: 289 Defense: 289 Special Attack: 289 Special Defense: 289 Speed: 269 Agility Dragon Pulse Ice Beam Brine Man, it was suprisingly hard to come up with a moveset for Kingdra. She's cool, oh yes, but her versatility leaves something to be desired. You'll notice that Kingdra's stats are basically even, allowing her to run a Physical and Special Moveset. Let's start with Agility, shall we? Kingdra's speed stat is the lowest of her stats, and one Agility not only remedies that, but can also make her faster than any of the other Water types out there, not taking into account Swift Swim. Dragon Pulse will be Kingdra's main STAB'd attacking move. Backed up by her Special Attack, Dragon Pulse makes pretty much anything run from Kingdra, even other Kingdras. Ice Beam is basically a staple of every Water type out there these days. It helps even more on Kingdra. Her only weakness is Dragon, and Ice Beam will wipe out any Dragon planning to use their STAB'd Outrage, Dragonbreath, or Dragon Claw. "Brine? Why Brine?" I hear you ask. Well, PP can get pretty tight in long battles, and you generally want to save your Ice Beam and Dragon Pulse PP. Therefore, we have Brine. Brine's power doubles when the opponent has less than half health, and Kingdra recieves STAB on the move as well. This makes Brine an excellent cleanup move. Leftovers is here for the reason it's on every other Pokemon known to man. Kingdra has some impressive staying power, and Leftovers can help that staying power to stay. Sniper is fun, when it works. Extra power on a critical hit is always good. Alternate move time. Surf should be fairly obvious here. Dragon Dance is another move. I find that Dragon Dance isn't too helpful on Kingdra, since she has, like, six Physical moves, but it also increases Speed, so if you want to use Waterfall on Kingdra, knock yourself out. This draconic seahorse is a true menace to society. By society, I mean your opponent's Pokemon. If done properly, Kingdra can lay waste to the opponent's team. Join me tomorrow for another Pokemon Of The Day! |
