Today's Pokemon is Clamperl. I'm not entirely sure what to say about Clamperl other than how he was basically one of a whole two new Pokemon you could catch while diving in the Hoenn Region. Obviously, we can't do that anymore, but Clamperl still remains an intresting Pokemon nonetheless. #366 - Clamperl Type - Water Bivalve Pokemon Height - 1'04" Weight - 115.7 lbs. Traits: Shell Armor: Opponent cannot obtain critical hits Evolution Chain: Evolves into Huntail by trading with a Deep Sea Tooth Evolves into Gorebyss by trading with a Deep Sea Scale Appearances: Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, Diamond, Pearl Clamperl is very common in the first Gem Era, and Uncommon in the second Gem Era. In RSE, Clamperl was found by Diving in Routes 124 and 126. In D/P, you can find Clamperl by fishing with the Super Rod in Routes 219 and 221. Moveset: Trait: Shell Armor Item: Quick Claw Stats: HP: 274 Attack: 227 Defense: 269 Special Attack: 247 Special Defense: 209 Speed: 163 Iron Defense Captivate Confuse Ray Aqua Ring Live and Learn, Scarlet employees. Before today, I didn't even know that Clamperl could use TMs and Egg Moves. Hell, I had completely forgotten about the little bugger. I mean, did we really need another shell Pokemon? We already have Cloyster, and he's badass enough, even if no one's using him. But I digress - this is Clamperl's article, and it's his time to shine! It was really hard to make a moveset for Clamperl. I had to go for an annoyer movelist which I don't like. But enough of me. Iron Defense will be our defense-raising move. Defense is the only stat he's got going for him, so he needs all the help he can get. Besides, it's all part of this annoyer's strategy. Captivate was difficult to put on here because it's so situational. This move lowers the Special Attack of the enemy...but only if their gender is opposite Clamperl's. So, this move can either be amazing for you or completely backfire in your face. Just pray your opponent doesn't switch Pokemon mid-battle. Confuse Ray will be forever touted in these articles as the greatest move ever. I believe this is an egg move for Clamperl, so get ready to find some sort of breeding chart to help you out there. Hopefully, you're starting to see the point of this moveset... The point is to boost Clamperl's defenses while your opponent is confused. This will lower damage on your end, while the enemy hits themselves all the while. Our final move makes this even more obnoxious: Aqua Ring. This move gradually heals you over time, making this an ultimate annoyer set for low level battles. Of course, there's one problem with this: Clamperl's low speed may not allow you to get the whole plan out. That's why our Quick Claw is there: To give you that chance to pull off the perfect plan no one expects. Captivate isn't entirely safe to use in this set, so alternate moves are a good choice. Something like Attract could work too, causing the ultra-obnoxious Confutraction status. If you don't want to run the risk of gender confusion, you could try Mud Sport to lessen Clamperl's weakness to Electric attacks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ That's Clamperl. Join me tomorrow for another Pokemon Of The Day. |
