Beth quickly put her hand over Ryder's eyes once they were there, ensuring it remained a surprise till she wanted him to see. She hadn't been here but once when she had lunch with her mother to discuss what David was thinking about everything, but it was a nice place.

"'Kay. What do you think?"

She pulled her hand away, her other moving to take his as she smiled; looking between him and the cafe carefully. It was at least a little warmer than England was here, but not a whole lot of difference. Time difference maybe, but that was insignificant as far as she was concerned.

Ryder could easily admit that he wasn't a fan of surprises. He just didn't like the unexpected, but he could be a good sport abotu this. More so once he was shown where it was they had ended up. Huh, that was new.

"I think you're starting to catch me off guard." Ryder told her, pleasently surprised to see where she had chosen. That and where for that matter. "Bethany Wright doing something completely unplanned? I'm shocked."

He smirked, laughing though as he got lightly slapped on the arm for the comment.

"In all seriousness," he started, kissing her on the cheek first before finishing. "you picked a great place."

Hey she was capable of random ideas....sometimes. She just had to get used to the whole not planning everything right down to every last detail. That could be difficult. Seeing that Ryder did like the place though put her nerves aside. It was only reasonable to at least be a little anxious about what he might think.

"Thank you."

Leading him inside she clearly remembered the place even if it had been a while since she'd last been there. Not a single thing had changed which was good because she'd already loved the place as it was. Being told to seat themselves, she let Ryder decide, curious if it was going to be the usual corner table toward the back or one in the middle of everything. See, details. As it was she was right about the first rather than the latter.

"I'm starting to see that you're probably right that taking a break from work every now and again is a good thing. But-" she could already see he was going to interrupt. "there's nothing wrong with the amount of time I do work.."

"See, told you it wasn't that hard."

Trying to argue about her long hours wasn't going to get them anywhere. He knew better than to actually attempt a conversation about that. There was nothing wrong with a good work ethic, but Beth was more like a workaholic.

The waiter came around asking what they wanted to drink and left menu's before leaving them time to decide. He was contemplating bringing up a topic as he scanned the menu, not sure what sounded good right now. Then again she hadn't ever edged away from the topic before.

"So did you decide if you were ever going to try and talk to Elizabeth?"

Pancakes. She wanted pancakes. No decisions needed, so when the waiter left the menu's she simply pushed hers aside and took a drink of water.

"Decided I am going to try and talk to her," Beth answered, shrugging her shoulder's to show she wasn't bothered by it. "I'm a little worried about David being there. I mean from what everyone says, he doesn't really leave the house so."

She paused, the favor all but hanging in the air. It wasn't fair to ask was it? I mean she knew how much trouble Ryder had gone through with David in the past, and to drag him back in didn't seem fair. Seeing the look he was giving her though, she absently swirled her straw around in her glass as she proceeded hesitantly.

"Okay I was wondering if when I do if you would come with me. Liz doesn't intimidate me, but David?" She gave a literal shiver at that. The man was scary no matter if he was her biological father or not. "I understand if that's too much to ask though."

"I would say it's up to Elizabeth, but David's the I run the house type of guy," Ryder told her honestly.

He'd never been on good terms with David. Not ever. It was mainly due to the fact Ryder wasn't a pureblood, but he could have cared less if David didn't like him. He wasn't anyones favorite person anyways. The hesistance behind the last sentence Beth said gave him the impression she wasn't finished, and he was about to urge her on when she went for it. Partly he was a little amused. Okay okay maybe that didn't make sense.

"Beth," he chuckled, abandoning the menu and instead reaching the very short distance across the table to put his hand over hers to get her full attention. "We've been dating for how long now? In secret maybe for the most part, but regardless. Living together too? You asking me to go with you is a no brainer. Of course I will. Next time don't be so afraid to ask me something."

Ryder could admit he was a prick sometimes, but when it came to the people he loved? He'd do anything for them.

"So-" he closed his menu and stacked it on top of Beth's that she hadn't even touched. "I say an omlette sounds good. What about you?"

Maybe he wasn't the best at reeling a situation back in, but hey, he could try.

Merlin families were so complicated. At least hers was, but she didn't think she'd ever get to a point where she could call Liz and David 'mom and dad'. That just didn't fit. Karen Wright was her mother and she had no father. That was more accurate. Ryder's change of attitude on the sitiation, however, caught her attention. She was a little bit stiff at first, not sure what he'd say, but then she relaxed with a quiet laugh.

"Okay." She almost apologized too, but that was silly. "I'll work on that."

People just had their quirks right? She just had to work on the ones that were admitably a little out there and then there was the whole them being in the way. As it was at least she'd attempt to be more talkative or not afraid to just ask things. That was better than saying she wouldn't?

"Pancakes. No, blueberry pancakes. Sounds so good," Beth answered, a smile returning to her face.

The two ordered their food when the waiter came back around, having decided he'd given them enough time to decide. The late breakfast was filled with more conversation, but lighter and less intimidating conversation than the prior. After, they headed back to the flat to finish packing before heading over to the house to get things situated a little more. All in all, a good day.
