When Wes brought EJ into St. Mungo's, they weren't really quite sure where to put her. Her symptoms didn't really match up with anything they had ever seen before. They put her in room 265, on the second floor with the Magical Bugs. It seemed to be the only suitable place. To them, it didn't seem magical, and they were confused. Wes was angry, if they didn't know what was wrong, who would? Wes didn't leave EJ's side as healers and acolytes came and went throughout the day, taking tests and making sure EJ was still breathing and had a pulse. His only fear was being spread out in front of him, he left her and she was sick. Something had happened, and he wasn't there to help her. He never imagined that something would actually go wrong. She hadn't been feeling great for a while, but she said it was just her allergies. Obviously, it wasn't just that, or she wouldn't be lying in a bed in St. Mungo's while he sat next to her, just hoping that everything would be okay and she would be able to go home. |

Tessa had been called in to help a patient because she had some muggle medicinal experience. The healers had tried every magical bug and couldn't find the answer, it was none of them. So she was called in to assess the situation and try and figure out what was making the poor girl sick. It was surprising that she was put in charge of a patient when she was brand new, but that wasn't important. Her job was to save people, and that was exactly what she would do. So she ordered the acolytes to take a bunch of tests to see if any of them would fit her symptoms. When she had run through the results of the tests, it was time to go treat it. EJ would wake up soon, that she was certain of, but she would talk to the boy who was sitting next to EJ this entire time. Tessa assumed he was her husband, but she couldn't be certain. She walked into the room and stuck out her hand. "Hello, I'm Healer Cartwright, and I'm here to help Mrs. Jacobsen," she said, hoping to instill a sense of hope in the poor boy. |

It was starting to become too crazy for Wes. He was getting seriously impatient, he needed to know if EJ was going to be okay, and fast. His brain was about three seconds away from ripping apart the entire hospital until someone figured it out. Luckily, he didn't get to that point, because a nice, young-looking healer came in right as he was about to scream. "Hello Healer Cartwright. I'm Wes Jacobsen, EJ's husband," he said, making it very clear that he was the one to get the answers. Hopefully the girl could understand by his tone that he needed answers very soon. He shook her hand, very forcefully, just to prove his point a little further. Instead of being the intimidating one, however, he lost his cool in a different way. "Is she gonna be okay?" he whimpered, completely on the verge of tears. |

Tessa could sense the fear in Wes's eyes and tone. According to the more experienced healers, the spouses are always the most anxious and therefore need to be handled a specific way. Waiting was not an option; they needed answers as soon as physically possible. Dish out what it was first, then deal with the details later. That had never been a problem for Tessa, so she didn't need any help preparing for this part of the job. "She'll be fine. EJ has what is known as aortic valve stenosis. Her aorta, the large blood vessel that leads out of the heart is narrower than it should be, so the heart works harder to pump the blood out. It has been narrow ever since she was born, but now the heart got tired and stopped working extra hard to pump, so less blood is being released into the rest of the body." Tessa couldn't go into much more details without sounding like a complete nerd and confusing the heck out of the poor boy. She would have to tell him how to fix it before he exploded. "Now, the only way to fix it is by a muggle remedy, because this isn't a magical bug. She will have a procedure done that is called a balloon valvuloplasty that enlarges the valve so the blood won't have to work so hard." |

Wes looked intently as Healer Cartwright explained everything that was going on. He couldn't help but be a little confused, but she put it in enough plain terms for him to understand. Her vessel was too small, it needed to be enlarged. She would be okay. That was all that mattered, that she would be okay. Although he wasn't without questions. "Will she wake up soon? And with this balloon thingy-majigy fix this permanently?" he asked, looking at his perfectly still wife lying helplessly in a hospital bed. He couldn't imagine having to go through this over and over again, it would be a constant struggle. Wes was already going through a lifelong struggle, he couldn't imagine having to go through something similar with EJ. |

Tessa laughed her signature laugh. Probably wasn't the best of ideas, but she really didn't have any other response. "She should be waking up at any time now. We have to tell her exactly what is happening before we perform the surgery, though, so we can't exactly fix this until she's awake. You'll obviously be able to talk to her, there's no doubt in that." There was no way Tessa was able to be exactly certain of his second question. "That's a 98-percent possibility. And if it doesn't, she can have open-heart surgery that will fix it for sure. She will be okay, it won't bother her at all after this," Tessa smiled, making sure that Wes was totally comfortable with what was happening to his wife. She would give the same talk to EJ when she woke up soon. Wes nodded, sitting back down, as Tessa left the room to prepare for the procedure. She would have an acolyte notify her when EJ woke up. |

When EJ woke up, she was in a bright white room. The last thing she remembered was after she had finished cleaning up from her lunch, she decided that she was really tired and needed a nap. She had no idea how she ended up in this room, and had no clue what was going on. But she did see a familiar face lying next to her. Wes looked like he was in pain, and she didn't know why. "Wes?" she breathed, her voice hoarse. She hadn't felt well, but there was no way it had gotten this bad. She saw a small person shuffle out of the room. Maybe that person was there to monitor her? "What's going on Wes?" EJ asked, completely confused. How she got from her nice comfortable bed at home to this room that was in serious need of an interior decorator was a complete mystery. The only person who could possibly know anything looked distraught and unable to form words. |

Wes was sitting, panting, praying that everything would be okay. EJ needed to wake up, fast, because he was becoming completely impatient. He didn't want to wait any longer. But when he heard what he thought was EJ's voice, he didn't believe it. His dreams had been here waking up, so he didn't believe it when she actually did. He looked up and saw her eyes open. Nothing could compare to how happy he felt when he was her face. "EJ, it's all okay. You're in St. Mungo's. Healer Cartwright should be right back, she can explain all the medicial mumbo-jumbo to you. Basically, you fainted, and thank goodness I came home when I did. I brought you here, and you have some muggle issue. I dunno what it really is. That's her job to know," Wes explained, basically rambling. He caught his breath. "I'm so happy you're awake." He gave her one of those awkward in-bed hugs, but he couldn't possibly hold his emotion in. |

"You're right Mr. Jacobsen, I will be right in," Tessa said as she was walking in. She had heard everything he had said; that helped her know what EJ already knew. Repition was sometimes useful, but not until everything was already out in the open. Tessa wanted to make sure that EJ knew everything before she had to repeat anything. Tessa walked over to the opposite side of the bed from where Wes was standing. "You have aortic valve stenosis, which means the main artery pumping out of your heart isn't as big as it should be. What we would do in someone your age would be called a balloon valvuloplasty, which enlarges the valve so the body doesn't have to work as hard to pump blood out of your heart. Now, this is a muggle procedure, but I have some friends who work at a muggle hospital who are willing to lend me what I need for everything to go smoothly. This wouldn't be the first one I've done, though, so you don't need to be worrying about whether it'll go okay or not. Everything will be just fine." It was important for Tessa to instill hope in the patient, because then they are more willing to cooperate. |

EJ smiled as Healer...Cartwright? came in. She seemed nice. Young, but nice, so hopefully she would be more understanding of her age as a problem with why she was fainting for no apparent reason. "So, you're gonna make my heart valve, the aortic, bigger, with this balloon procedure? That's gonna fix it all, so I won't be fainting anymore?" she asked. Luckily Healer Cartwright talked in plain English (except for the procedure's name), so EJ didn't have too many questions. Hopefully everything would work out. "Would I have to go home and then come back? Or would you do this soon? Cause I'd rather not be fainting for much longer." She'd rather not be fainting at all, but that seemed out of the question. It seemed as if this condition was long-lasting, so it had to be have going on for a while. Maybe her body just gave up trying too hard. "And how long will the recovery take?" EJ asked. She wanted to get back to work. |

Tessa smiled. "It will make it bigger. And after that, you won't be fainting anymore. The materials I need will be here tonight, so we'll do the procedure tomorrow, I'm scheduling it for 8:30 am. I would highly suggest you stay here overnight so we can monitor you, but if you really want to go home, I won't stop you." She really hoped EJ would be willing to stay here. If she fainted again, it would be difficult to get her back here. However, Tessa turned to Wes. "You, sir, I suggest that you go home and get some sleep. We'll be preping her around 8 tomorrow, and she'll be available to talk to in recovery around 10. You won't be able to see her during the procedure, so if you wish to sleep, I suggest you do it now. You look a little drained," Tessa said. She wasn't trying to be mean, but he looked completely worn out and out of energy, so she wanted him to sleep. "EJ, you'll be in recovery tomorrow until about 3 or 4-ish. After that we'll probably set up appointments every one or two years just to make sure you're alright. Plus, if you ever have any issues, you come here immediately. Don't think about it." |

Wes just stared at Healer Cartwright while she explained everything to EJ. She was right, he was tired. He didn't really want to leave EJ, but he was going to fall asleep on the floor of the room if he didn't go home to get some sleep. It didn't help that he didn't get very much sleep for the past couple of days, stupid full moon always ruines his sleep plans. The boy needed sleep, he quite enjoyed it. He watched Healer Cartwright walk out and he smiled down at EJ. "I think I'm gonna go sleep. It's gonna be a long day tomorrow, so I want to be up and ready for it. I'll be back around 9ish to make sure everything's going smoothly. You, you're staying here, you don't have that option. I'm not giving it to you. I want to make sure you're okay, and I trust these people with that more than I trust myself at home. I'll see you tomorrow," Wes said, leaning in and giving her a soft kiss on the cheek. "I love you," he said, before walking out and apparating home. |

"I love you too," EJ said, watching Wes walk out. She leaned her head back and fell asleep. Wes was right, tomorrow was going to be a long day, and she needed as much energy as she could possibly get. Her eyes closed, her mouth shut off, and she slept deeply, without dreams and without interruptions. |
