Once they arrived at the hospital, the paperwork went really quickly to get Juls checked in, and then they were brought to one of the rooms on the maternity floor. Llian waited outside while she got changed, but the second he could, he was back in the room, sitting in the chair next to the bed.

"How are you doing? Do you need some water...anything?" He felt really helpless at the moment, and he just wanted to be able to do something to ease her pain. They were waiting, at the moment, for a Healer to come in and check on how far along she was.

It was a really good thing Juls decided to wear that big old cotton maxi dress she did, because with the frequency of the contractions, it took even that a few minutes to get off, and a few minutes for the hospital gown to come on. Still, it was soon enough that she was sitting on that bed, waiting for someone to check her progress.

When Llian came in, she reached for his hand, antsy and not particularly wanting to sit still there like she was supposed to. "I'm...nervous." She told him honestly,"Obviously I've never done this before. And...I'm really tired." She shook her head, "He would choose to come during full moon. No recovery time. But I'm ready.. I want it to be over so I can meet him."

It wasn't just a baby in her stomach any longer; they were about to have a son, a living, breathing, adorable child to hold and have and spoil rotten.

"I'm okay." She told him finally, both as an answer to his first comment, and his second. She just wantedc him right where he was.

"No need to be nervous," Llian said with a smile. He was nervous, and he didn't even know why; it wasn't like he was going through any of the physical things that she was going through. It was more like he was nervous on her behalf. He couldn't even imagine doing what she was doing at the moment, but she was.

"It'll be over before you know it," he assured her. He wished he knew if that was true. Actually, he was pretty sure that it was going to feel like a slow and agonizing process...but that really wasn't the best way to think about it. Every minute they got closer and closer to having their son and letting Juls relax.

"At least you're getting both the moon and the labor over with at once?" He wasn't sure if that helped, but he figured it kind of fell under the 'kill two birds with one stone' theory. Besides, he thought it would be pretty bad if right after labor she had to go through the full moon.

They didn't have to wait too long for a Healer to come in.

"Afternoon," she greeted them. "I'm Marit Castle, and I'll be your Healer today. How are you doing?" she asked, going over to read the chart at the end of the bed.

"Ok, so you've been in labor for a while. Did you want to have an epidural?" she asked.

Juls gave a little bit of a wry laugh when Llian told her it would be over before she knew it. She'd already been in labour for over a day. It would be too blessedly perfect for things to just go fast now. Maybe that was pessimism, maybe that was realism, but either way she did hope he was right. It would be so much better for her; she was already bone-tired from the full moon, and having so many contractions during it and so long after it was really, really wearing her out.

"I'm pretty sure you need energy to push out a baby." Juls mentioned, brushing a hand through her hair as she sat up slightly when the healer came in. "It hurts, though I'm sure that's typical." She responded, refusing to be anything but optimistic and ready to be a mother. "I'm also starting to feel the need to push. I'm not. I was told not to. But I feel like I need to."

That was actually pretty new as of getting into the bed. "My water broke at home about fifteen minutes ago." She then added, before hesitating. The epidural, and the concept of it was dangerous. It would take away at least some of the pain, from what she'd been told. At the same time though, she was worried that with as tired as she was, taking away the motivation of pain would be detrimental.

So she shook her head, followed by a simple, "No."

"And you are going have more than enough energy," Llian said assuredly. He couldn't even imagine how tired she was at the moment. He was glad when the Healer came in so that she could tell them how things were progressing.

He wasn't surprised that Juls hadn't chosen to take the epidural, although he was pretty sure that if he was doing that, he'd want it. "You're amazing," he told her. "Seriously. I wouldn't be able to handle this. You're doing great."

Marit nodded. "Ok, no epidural then. Well first we'll have to check how far dilated you are," she said. After doing so, she told her, "Looks like I have good news. It's time to start the delivery. So on the next contraction, I want you to start pushing and hold it for ten seconds."

Llian almost couldn't believe his ears when he heard it, and he sat up a little straighter at the word 'delivery'. This was it. They were in the home stretch, and they were about to meet their little boy.

Juls simply nodded when Llian said she had enough energy. Even if she didn't she was in some kind of...zone. Her son was being born, and all that was between meeting him and herself was her getting through this labour. She was going to do it, and that was that.

Although she and Llian had decided to have Taylor at the hospital because of all the complications they'd had, Juls still didn't want the drugs. Perhaps that was masochistic of her, but she wanted to be able to feel it. Besides, animals, women in poorer countries, strong women of the past all managed to do it without sticking long needles into their backs.

So it just caused Juls to give a little bit of a laugh when Llian called her amazing for it, and just squeezed his hand a little tighter as she fought back her urge during contractions while the healer measured how dilated she was. It was extremely relieving then, a moment later, when she was being told that she could push, and actually needed to. Her son was being born right then, and Llian was right; she did have enough energy. It was probably adrenaline, but either way she braced herself against those pillows and wrapped her free hand around the railing.

"Okay." Juls vocalized, more to herself than anyone else. It was just a mental 'here we go', though it'd slipped from her lips as well. As the next contraction began to hit, she tightened her grip around both the unmoveable metal and Llian's much softer hand, and began to try to push. It was odd, because no one told her how to. It was just pure instinct.

...1...2...3...

Now she could feel why people needed epidurals. There was so much pain, and so much pressure, and so much lack of air that a scream built up in her throat, trying to slip it's way out past her lips. Already she was seeing stars behind her eyes, and then realized it was because she really wasn't breathing. In, and out. There was some specific way to do it right?

...4...5...6...

Merlin, ten seconds had never seemed so long before. It seemed like ten minutes, ten hours. Ten days, even. The room was already feeling hotter, her body already feeling misused and bruised. In, and out.

...7...8...9...

Just keep going. If Juls hadn't been so utterly focused on the counting and the pushing, the muggle disney quote of 'just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming, swimming swimming' might have made her laugh. As it was, there wasn't enough air in the room for her to be able to do so, so she just kept holding down on her pushing. To help herself, she just imaged Taylor. A healthy, fully-developed baby boy, being laid down on her stomach for Llian to cut the cord. She wanted that.

10.

With a groan, she let her head drop back into the pillows instead of being bent over slightly. Sucking in air, there was only a momentary rest before it was cycling back again.

A good hour later and the only thing Juls had for her efforts was an intense burning, a definite sapping of energy, and an excess of frustration. She could feel him descending, but every time she stopped pushing to take a breath, he would slide back up. A one step forward, two steps back type thing. The worst part was that Juls could push hard enough to be able to have his skull being crowned, but the second the contraction was over, he was unable to be seen once again. Again and again and again she pushed, each time harder than the last just trying to alleviate the pain and pressure. She was beginning to worry that being stuck right there was hurting him.

As her latest contraction faded away, Juls pressed at her wet eyes, just honestly trying to control the emotions. This was hard. It made her appreciate all the more just how extensive pregnancy was, but she couldn't push him out. Out and in and out and in he went and still was no closer to being completely out and being in her arms. No matter how hard she seemed to push, he always retreated. He wasn't far enough crowned to stick, nor far enough for the healer to be able to help. She was starting to get too tired to push the way she had been.

"He's stuck." It was supposed to be a question, but between her lack of air, raw throat, and clear disgruntlement, it came out as a fact, "This isn't hurting him, right? I can't push any harder."

It wouldn't have been so bad if she hadn't been able to feel him moving down and up inside of her.

It had been a really long time, and Llian was getting a little worried. He was working really hard not to show that, though, because Juls needed all the help and support she could get with delivering the baby.

"You can do it," he said encouragingly. He didn't even know if she was actually hearing him at that point. He couldn't imagine going through that much pain for so long, and there was a problem. He wasn't even crowning.

When Juls finally announced what they were all saying--that Taylor was stuck--he looked up at the Healer anxiously. Even she looked a little concerned: not a look one wanted to see on their healer.

Marit looked up at the concerned parents. "No, this isn't hurting him," she said, "but yes. He's stuck. The one danger with this can be him not getting enough oxygen, so I think we're looking at a c-section," she said. "We'll try two more pushes, and after that we'll have to do the c-section."

Juls just needed to breathe and rally. There wasn't much time before her next contraction would start, she knew, but she needed a minute to regroup herself. In, and out, and in, and out. Oxygen was slowly getting back to her dizzy brain, but it wasn't long before she could feel the contraction starting, and knew she had to push again.

The healer confirmed that Taylor was actually stuck, and Juls was relieved to hear that he wasn't getting hurt because of it, but the idea that he wasn't getting enough oxygen either made Juls a little nervous. They'd gone through all of this just to have him suffocated? No...she didn't think so. Of course, when her next option came in the form of a c-section, Juls gripped Llian's hand harder - she was pretty sure she was cutting off circulation - and shook her head. No, to a c-section. He was low into her pelvis, so they would have to pull him back up, and then out. And then she would have gone through almost fourty hours of labour for absolutely nothing. The idea of him being cut out of her stomach didn't appeal to her either, so she took another deep breath, and when the contraction hit her, she pushed.

There was something she had read about once the baby crowning, to go slow and allow the tissue to adjust to the pressure so there wasn't any ripping, but merlindamnit she was not going to have a c-section. Red, sweating, and tearing up from the pain, Juls couldn't help the high-pitched scream of pain, frustration, and presssure as finally, Taylor's head managed to push past the cervix. Scared he'd slide back up, Juls just tensed and kept pushing, straining to force those shoulders past .the barrier.

It didn't work for that push, but when Juls finally had to relax again, the contraction over, Taylor didn't move back. The air had seemed to grow thin in that room, and the uncomfortable feeling of having a child half in you and half out of you was grating on her. She was shaking, but she was silent, eyes pressed closed as she tried dto find the strength to push again. Just the shoulders. She just needed to get past the shoulders. Her breathing grew a little shallower as the next contraction started to wave over her, but she didn't push. She was supposed to be, she knew that. Problem was, when she opened her eyes again, they were unfocused. She was too dizzy, took shaken to even think about trying to push, and the feeling between her legs was unbelievable agony. In, and out.

However, the instinctive urge to push didn't go completely unnoticed. Whether it was actually a lucid thought or not, Juls began to bear down again, grip white and lips pressed together in a thin line. It was slow going, but unmistakable when she succeeded. Something slid, and then all the pressure was gone, leaving her throbbing, but already forgetting just hot potent, and sharp the pain of labour had been. Immediately she was slumping back into the bed, breathing hard, loosening her grip on Llian and the railing so she could press her palms to her wet face.

It hadn't really set in yet that she was finished - with the painful part anyways, as the placenta never actually hurt - but it had sunk in that Juls was tired. A full moon usually left her bone tired, but add on an extremely long labour and she could probably just drop off into unconsciousness right then and there.

She just wanted to make sure her baby was okay first.

Llian just stayed by Juls' side while she started pushing again, absolutely and completely amazed at her ability to keep going so far into labor. "You can do it, love," he said encouragingly. And she was doing it. The next couple of pushes had the head out when he was so sure they were going to have to do a c-section.

But the Healer was announcing that the head was out, and soon after that the shoulders followed. One more push, and the Healer was lifting up his son, and Llian got his first look at him as a loud cry filled the room. He was red, wrinkly and clearly had very healthy lungs. And he was theirs.

He was layed on Juls' stomach to be towled off and for the cord to be cut. It was honestly a miracle to watch his baby being born. He cut the cord and looked up at Juls as their baby was taken to get records, footprints and the Apgar tests done. Juls was being given an ID band that would match the one Taylor was getting.

He leaned over, wrapping an arm gently around her and then pulling back, a large smile on his face. "We have a baby." Probably the dumbest, most obvious thing he could say at the moment, but it...was practically all he could say at the moment.

"You did it. You're amazing." Their son was born. They had a son.

A few minutes later, while the Acolytes were giving Taylor his second Apgar test and giving him his hospital ID bracelet, the Healer came over and helped Juls with the placenta.

Then their baby was brought over to them and placed in Juls' arms for the first time, newly swaddled in a blue blanket.

"Congratulations," Marit said to them with a smile. "You have a healthy baby boy. 9 pounds, 4 ounces, 21 inches long. He's very healthy; scored a 7 on his Apgar."

When Juls heard that cry in the room, the absolute second she could hear her son, exhaustion left. It wasn't like she was about to get up and run a marathon, but she didn't feel at all like going to sleep. Not right then. Not with the visual of her baby right there. As the healer went to put Taylor on her stomach, Juls sat up a little, looking down at him. It was no wonder that she was having so much trouble getting him out; he was a large, chubby baby, something that only widened the instant smile on her face. He was just...gorgeous. That was the only thought she had. And as Llian moved over to cut the cord, the love that she could feel right then for her boys was overwhelming.

It was an emotional moment, so it was no surprise that tears were filling her eyes. They'd already been told that when Taylor was born, he'd be taken away for a short while to dry him off and give him preliminary testing to make sure everything was okay, so she wasn't worried when the baby was pulled out of her view. Instead she focused on Llian, who had come back over to her. She hugged him back, a prouder smile on her face as he announced that they had a baby, and that she did it. "We do." She agreed, air finally coming into her body at a normal pace. She was starting to cool down from the intensity of labour as well.

Unluckily she wasn't done yet, luckily it was easy. After Taylor, the placenta passing didn't hurt whatsoever, and she felt ten times better as everything was cleaned up and she was able to just sit against those pillows, legs crossed to avoid cramping from where they had been spread and tensed. It was acutely uncomfortable to focus on her lower body though, and so when Taylor was brought back to them, Juls was beyond estatic. Detail-oriented, she took in the matching bracelets on all of their arms, identifying them as a family. She took in the shock of hair on his head, and how tiny his fingernails were. He'd calmed down from his original cries, instead just shifting slightly in the blanket the acolytes had put him in.

It didn't surprise Juls to hear that he was almost nine and a half pounds, but hearing that he was healthy just calmed all nerves, and her gaze was only for her newborn child. It was...unbelievable. Juls could only now understand what unconditional love meant. How could someone feel so strongly for something that had caused so much illness, so much pain, and transformation, and someone that she had only been able to meet for a few minutes? And yet, he had that. Having the tiny, dependent human in her arms was like some kind of high.

"Look at his eyelashes...they're so long." Juls marveled, stroking a finger over the closed fist resting right outside the swaddling. He hadn't opened his eyes yet so she wasn't sure what color they were, but that was just going to be a great surprise when he did. "And his tiny little nose...look what we made, Llian."

It was just...it was a miracle, and she was lost in the feeling of it.

Llian was in awe as he got his first good look at their son. He was absolutely perfect. A pretty big baby too--no wonder they had problems. But he was healthy, and Juls was healthy, and that was all that mattered.

"I almost can't even believe it," he commented, voice hushed a little just out of sheer awe. They had made him. They had created this baby. He was a product of the two of them, half of each of them. It was the most humbling miracle of all, to know that the baby right in front of them was theirs, would depend on them for everything, would count on them for everything...

The moment was nothing short of magical. It was the best feeling in the world to sit there with the woman he loved and their son.

"He's perfect," Llian said, nodding along with her observations about him. "Hi Taylor," he greeted, reaching over and stroking a gentle finger along his cheek and watching him squirm slightly in his mother's arms. "I'm your dad." He was honestly getting a little choked up at the moment, his voice a little thicker than normal.

"And that's your mum, and we're so excited to finally get to see you," he murmured softly.

Yes, Juls wanted to sleep. She'd been running on pure willpower and determination ever since the full moon started, and she knew that if she just laid her head down on that pillow, she would be out, and it would probably end up being one of the best naps she'd ever had. At the same time, just having their son there in her arms made her never really want to go to sleep.

"It's really...incredible that I feel like he's going to break in my arms, and yet, I know that he has gone through so much in there." She responded. When Llian greeted Taylor though, her eyes weren't on the baby. She looked up at the man who had given her such a miracle, watching his reaction as he spoke to his son for the first time.

Taylor took the moment of Llian stroking his cheek to open his big, typically-baby-blue eyes and look at them, and then it was Juls who was biting back the emotions. He was perfect.

Juls shifted slightly over, careful not to jostle Taylor, so that Llian could come sit with them. She figured if he did, then she could give him Taylor to hold, and she could just curl up and rest. She knew at some point in the near future she was going to have to figure out how the whole...breastfeeding thing worked, but he didn't seem to be fussing for that yet. "Come here, okay?"

Llian nodded. "It's true," he said. "When I first held Claire I thought for sure I was going to break her. Did the same thing with getting her dressed," he laughed. "It's kind of crazy how someone who seems so tiny and fragile can go through so much just to get into the world."

When Juls asked him to join them, he sat down on the bed next to her, careful not to jostle her or Taylor. Turning his head, he kissed Juls softly, murmuring, "I love you."

This was an amazingly perfect day. It was amazing; he had traveled the world, been on almost every continent (Antarctica would happen, of that he was sure), and he was one-hundred percent sure that he would never be able to experience anything quite as great as this.

Juls smiled, looking at Taylor at the thought of getting him dressed, and flashing back to the two onesies that she'd packed. It didn't seem all that important which one went on him anymore. It was just clothes, and the decision of the onesies was mostly her acting on her nerves. It was funny to think of how nervous she had been, and how frustrating and hard the labour had been when right then, she couldn't think of anything she would rather be doing or anywhere that she would rather be. It was hard, yes. She was beyond sore, and exhausted, and the tiredness was only just beginning. But it was worth it. Looking at her precious baby boy's face made it all worth it.

Llian did join them on the bed, and Juls responded to his kiss while it lasted, her smile never leaving her face. Happy? There had been a lot of things that had made her happy in the last year or so. A lot of things that didn't, obviously, but the happy outweighed the bad, and right then, she could not think of a time when she was feeling quite so...complete.

"I love you too."
She responded, just as softly, just expressing the moment with her gaze, and then she moved. "Here..." Careful, she turned slightly to have a better position to give him Taylor to hold. Once the baby was in his father's arms, Juls just took in the sight for a moment. Just a moment, and then she was sighing, laying down at their side. She wasn't exactly planning on closing her eyes, really. Not yet. She didn't want to sleep, just yet.

For a moment she was quiet, and then realized, "So he did end up being born in April." Barely, but he was, and Juls grinned sleepily up at Llian at that. "Psychic." Halfway through the word, she yawned, but finished the word anyways. Laying down was...more comfortable than she had anticipated.

When Llian sat down next to Juls, he found himself being handed his son. Taking the baby carefully into his arms, his smile just widened as Taylor's tiny head nestled comfortably in the crook of his elbow, his back aligned perfectly with Llian's forearm.

"Yes, he was born in April," he said, glancing down at Juls and wrapping his free arm around her as she settled in next to them. He loved having his family around him, resting comfortably after both of them had just gone through quite the ordeal. "And I am definitely psychic," he added, grinning.

Noticing her yawning, Llian just kissed her forehead and told her that she should probably get some rest because she definitely deserved it, and it didn't seem that Taylor was that hungry at the moment. It didn't take long before Juls was asleep, Taylor not far behind. Llian was just content to sit there with them.
