Shaking his head, Will wasn't about to leave Lara alone. "No, Carter will, if not, he will ask your family to, and give them access to a couple owls." He informed her, handing her a cup of ice chips. Will seriously wished he was going through this, he took pain better than Lara, clearly. "Lara, freaking out about this, is only going to stress out the baby, and is not going to make it any less painful.. We can get you painkillers." He reassured her.

When the bed got wet, Will panicked in his head for a few seconds before brushing Lara's hair from her face. "You didn't wet yourself, your waters broke." He said, rolling over slightly, wincing as his pant legs got wet and he grabbed the call button and pressed it. Within a minute, an acolyte arrived in the room. "We need the Healer, now." He informed them as he got off the bed and came around to help Lara off the bed in order to change her and get the bed remade.

That had to be humiliating enough with him witness to it, without having to continue to lie in it. So he left the room for a moment to grab new bed sheets, a couple towels and a new gown. First thing Will did was get Lara out of the wet gown and helped dry her off, then got her into the new gown. Next he moved her to the chair he was in before and quickly changed the bed, he had gotten quite good at it since he'd been at work in the hospital.

Once he was done he sat on the edge of the bed infront of Lara. "Are you going to be okay, want to get back in the bed? Want me to get your mum, or have Andy or Leslie come right away?" He asked her, he was focused on her and making this easier on her.

5 Reasons I should accept Lara and the baby:
1) I am madly in love with her still
2) It is my baby after all
3) I am willing to pay child support, so why not go one step further and be a dad to the baby?
4) I am hurting Lara more than helping her
5) Did I mention I am madly in love with her and she is always on my mind?

"I cant not freak out about this. There's a baby inside me that wants to come out!" Still when he mentioned painkillers, she nodded. Painkillers sounded wonderful just about then about as wonderful as the ice chips Will handed to her. The joy of the ice chips however only lasted a moment or two before her water's broke.

Once Lara realised what had happened she started to panic a little, face red with embarrasment that it had happened in front of Will, that he'd got wet, that she'd messed up a nice clean hospital bed... Her eyes were already welling up - a mix of hormones, embarrasment and nerves about what was to come - as Will jumped into action. Lara wasn't sure she'd have known what to do. "I... I'm sorry...." she murmured, as her hair was brushed aside an Acolyte entering a moment later, sent off to find Healer Clemens again.

Lara was still apologising between sniffs as Will helped her out of bed, changing her into a fresh gown and cleaning her up. She settled onto the chair Will led her to, watching as he turned to change the bed. "No, Will. You don't have to do that..." She felt bad enough that she'd wet him when her waters broke without him having to change her and change the bed as well. She was still sat there sniffing when he'd finished.

She shook her head at his questions. No she wasn't okay. Lara was scared. Nervous about what was to come - what she was so sure she had the next thre or four months to psyche herself up for.Nervous about all the stuff she was totally unprepared for. Embarassed that she was scared. "I don't know if I can do this. This is real. It's happening now isn't it? It wasnt braxton hicks contractions. These are real ones...?"

Lara glanced at the bed and shook her head. She'd been in a bed for over a month on bed rest and she was restless. "No, I want to sit ot stand or walk around, stretch my legs. Besides it's too hot." Did she want anyone else? Lara glanced at the door. "Yeah... someone whose done this before. I dont want mum to see me like this just yet. Maybe Leslie." Leslie was familiar. While Declan was her Healer this time, Leslie had taken her scans and seeen her the last few times she'd be in. "Could I have a glass of water? Or the ice chips please?"

Crouching in front of Lara, Will took her hands in his and looked into her face, she looked scared, and embarrassed, but she had nothing to be embarrassed about. "Don't apologize for something you can't control, and I changed the bed so you didn't have to lay in that. And so I got a little amniotic fluid on me, I've had worse. I will wash my clothes and they will be happy again. Don't worry about me, I am here to look after you." He said, calmly, taking one of his hands and running it through her hair before giving her a smile to try and brighten her mood. Only his smile never seemed to reach his eyes.

"Now, I will send Izzy or Liam to get Leslie then I will come back and stay with you until you get the steroid injections, then we can get up and walk around. Doing those things will progress labour, and we need him to get the medicine first." He warned her then got up and grabbed her a cup of both. "We can do this... YOU can do this. Remember, you're going to have 27 more children so this one is practice for the rest." He said, trying to joke, remembering he told her she'd have 28 kids.

Getting back up, Will tilted her face up and kissed her lovingn and headed out to tell Viki, Liam and Izzy, telling them that they needed to go get Leslie and moved to come back into the room. "Please cheer up, I don't like when you cry. Healer Clemens and the rest of the maternity staff are going to do what they can for our son." Will told her, and sat in front of her on the bed again.

Lara felt small sat in that hospital chair opposite Will, in her gown and slippers (small except for the prominent baby bump) and looked up at him sheepishly. "I am sorry though and embarrassed. I don't like being seen so vulnerable or with so little dignity." She could understand not wanting her to lie in a wet bed though. Lara shivered as Will ran a hand through her hair and offered a small smile in response to the smile her gave her. "I'm glad your here. I couldn't do this without you."

She nodded, hearing that someone would go and find Leslie. She was a Healer and a mum and a woman. Leslie might be able to put her mind at ease. Lara had almost forgotten about the steroid injections. "Will the steroids hurt the baby? I mean they're going to speed up the organ growth, right? Isn't that unnatural. Are there any side affects?"

Lara accepted the cup of water, drinking it down eagerly in one and taking some of the ice, putting it to her forehead sighing at how cooling that felt. "I do think I can. We're not ready. We haven't planned enough and I never finished reading my baby books. We didn't go to any birthing classes or decide on a birthing plan. I didn't even have a hospital bag packed and I don't know if Aunt Izzy packed anything for the baby...." This all came out in one shakey breath and it didn't help that she momentarily forgot the joking conversation she and Will had had several months previous about having twenty eight kids. "Tw...twenty eight...?" Then realising he was joking Lara offered a nervous laugh. "You can have them."

Lara was appreciative of the kiss before Will slipped out of the room to talk to her family and by the time he came back in she was stood, holding onto the edge of the bed, breathing through another contraction and gripping onto the clean sheets. "I'm sorry..." She ground out, wincing, one hand on her stomach. She couldn't stop apologising. Lara waited untill the contraction had passed before continuing - noting how they were getting slowly worse and closer together. "I'm just nervous and hormonal and anxious... and excited to meet our son. I just want to see our beautiful baby boy and for him to be healthy. Everything's just happening all at once, quicker than I thought." It was an emotional event afterall. She was allowed to cry. She knew the Healers and Acolyte would do all that they could and she trusted them. "I know. How long do you think we'll have to wait before we meet our baby?"

As soon as Declan had been notified that Lara hadn't stopped having contractions and her water had broken, he was right back up into the room. She was sitting with Will, and both of them looked really, really anxious.

"I'm sorry I took so long," he said after greeting the two of them. What had taken him so long was that he'd been in the middle of a tricky countercurse for one of the patients who'd come in, and he'd really been the only Healer qualified to deal with the level of Dark Magic she was under. He'd gotten her safe and stable, though, so now it was back to work with his other patients.

"Ok Lara, looks like the baby wants to come out a little early." He was doing his best to sound encouraging. At six months, there was an all right shot at survival. "So what I'm going to do is give you a dose of the steroids for the baby. You don't need to worry about any effects of this: it will only help the baby's lungs and organs grow and mature more so they've got a better chance outside of the womb," he said. He got the dose ready and injected her with it.

"Now I'm going to check and see how dilated you are. Once you're about 9 centimeters, then we'll start the delivery. Until then, I'm sorry but there's nothing I can do about the contractions. I can offer you an epidural for the pain, but with this already being a bit of a risky birth, I'm going to recommend not using one," he said.

"Will, if you could sit up by her head..." he directed him. "And Lara, could you just lie back for a minute and bend your knees and spread your legs?"

When Declan entered the room, Lara climbed up onto the bed to hear the verdict. Her fears were true. It wasn't Braxton Hicks contracts. These were real and the baby was on his way. "What's their chances?" she murmured, curious and nervously. Lara watched as he prepared the injection of steroids, relieved to hear they wouldn't have any adverse affects on the baby, hoping the steroids would be enough to help their little boy. She closed her eyes and looked away when he gave her the injection. Always the squeamish one.

Of everything Declan said, Lara's attention locked onto the mention of the epidural, especially the words risky birth and recommend not using one. "No... no epidural? You're reccomending I do this... without!?" Lara swallowed nervously lying back on the bed as instructed. "How dilated am I?"

Moving as soon as Declan came back in, Will helped Lara back on the bed and helped her hold her knees back. He let the Healer talk, he knew better what he was talking about than Will did. To hear that Lara wouldn't get an epidural, Will hung his head, that wouldn't be fun for Lara, but he understood that the epidural might slow down the baby's fuctions and they needed him to get straight to work the moment he came out. "Don't worry, break my fingers if you need to, we can do this." He tried reassuring her.

By the looks of it, Will was as disheartened by her not getting an epidural as she was. Lara watched as his head hang at the news and instantly started to worry. "It's really going to hurt a lot, isnt it?" she murmured shakily.

Will offered his fingers to grip onto and Lara raised her eyebrows. "You really might regret that offer." Will had got her pregnant and it hadn't been the easiest pregnancy the last few weeks and now she had to go without an epidural! As much as she loved Will, his hand was very likely to take a beating in the delivery room, perhaps his ear drums as well. "I wll apologise now then for anything I say or do when labour starts."

Looking Lara in the eye, he smiled comfortingly. "Yes, yes it will hurt, and what else are we going to do, an epidural will slow down the baby's reactions and functions. This is the best for him. And I know it hurts now and will get worse soon, but women have been doing this without epidurals since the beginning of time." He told her, understandingly.

He admired her for stnading up to him when she wanted the baby and he didn't, and even more so now that she had to do this would pain relief. If there was one thing lara could do, it was pull up the strength from the pit of her stomach and tackle the pain head on.

Once Declan had finished checking her, he said, "You're four centimeters dilated. It should be another few hours before you're ready to give birth. I know the contractions will get closer and closer, and I know it's going to be your body's natural inclination to want to push, but make sure you don't push until we get to the delivery when you're fully dilated," he said.

"The baby will come out when he's ready and when you're ready, and pushing too early could lead to tearing," he informed her.

"I'll check in on you periodically, but for right now you can get up and move around the room if you want to, stay in bed, do whatever you'd like. If you need anything, you can always get one of the Acolytes, who will come get me," he said. "Other than the timing of it, so far you're looking like you're in pretty good shape: the labor is going smoothly and normally at a good pace, and the baby is in the proper position to come out. I know it's difficult, but right now one of the most important things you can do is relax and try to stay thinking positively for your baby," he said.

After once again reminding them that he could be reached at any time if they needed him, he left the young parents for a little while.

Lara wasn't sure how Will could be smiling while telling her it was going to hurt. And then continuing on to point out that yes it would get worse.... "I'm going to stop asking for all the information now. Feel free to lie about labour and the delivery from now on." Her voice was shakey. Will was right though. Women all over the world did this withut epidurals also that it would affect the baby. "I'm not good with pain. Can't you take over from now?" Of course, she knew that was a silly request but she could hope.

"Hours?!" Lara questioned eye wide. She had to do this for several more hours? Four centimeters. That was nearly halfway. She nodded blankly at Declan's instructions, not quite sure how she was supposed to... not push. "How exactly...?" She didn't want to do anything that would cause problems... like tearing as Declan said. That sounded painful.

After Declan left, Lara moved off the bed glad to be standing on her own two feet again, her legs a little wobbly after being out of use with all the bed rest and paced slowly around the room. "How am I supposed to relax? I've got a baby inside of me waiting to come out. I've got to push a baby out! I've got to sit through contraction and pain for another few hours..." Lara continued her mini panicked rant, moving to her bedside table to pour herself another cup of water, sipping it, trying to calm down, coming to a halt taking deep breaths. "I just want it all to be over. I want to see our little boy."

She set her cup down hurriedly, feeling the start of another contraction. "Will. They're getting worse," Lara whimpered, doubling over, breathing deeply.

Leslie came into the room, and saw Lara on her feet. "Hey, I got two owls... one saying you're in labour and the second asked me to hurry? What's wrong, Lara?" She asked, worried. She was worried that there was something going on and she needed to be there in order to fix it. Smiling slightly, Leslie listened to Maddie chatter away in the waiting room. "Want to go for a walk, and you can tell me about it? I am also sure Gabe's staff wants to see Maddie, he apparently talks about her non-stop." She smiled softly. It'd be good to express her worries, but also be able to focus on something other than being in a preterm labour.

Lara was halfway through her contraction when the door opened and she heard Leslie's voice approaching. She nodded, still breathing deep as Leslie asked about her being in labor, while she finished for the contraction to pass. "I over streched and contractions started, my waters broke and I'm already four centimeters dilated. It's too soon...I can't do this!" Lara looked up at Leslie round eyed.

It was then that she noted the little babbling voice outside the door. "Maddie's here?" Lara nodded again. "A walk sounds good. I've been cooped up in bed too long and I can't settle or sleep. I keep getting interupted by contractions." She reached for her dressing gown. "I'm just scared and... well you've done this all before and you're a Healer."

Leslie felt bad for the girl, she went through labour with Maddie completely naturally but Leslie was better with pain. "Yeah, she's out with Liam and your mum, she'll come with us." Leslie smiled and took Lara by the elbow. "Will can have a rest before the abuse starts. I'll take over for now, and when you have a contraction, breathe as I do and maybe that'll help." Leslie was really positive and upbeat about the labour and trying to keep Lara in the right mood, and perhaps the blonde angel would help too. After all, on such short notice, Madie had no choice to go to gran's but rather come to mummy and daddy's work.

"I'll hold her hand and jsut let her hold onto your IV pole, and she'll let those chubby little legs take themselves around the hospital." She chuckled, pulling Lara from the room and around the corner to the waiting room.

Kissing Will softly and taking hold of her IV pole, Lara followed Leslie out of the room offering a small smile at her family's concern. "Just stretching my legs..." Breathe when Leslie breathed. She could do that and the upbeat tone she was using was refreshing.

Spotting Maddie balanced on her Mom's knee, Lara's face instantly brightened. "Hey Sweetie. Are you going to come and take a walk with Mommie and Auntie Lara?" She was heartened by Maddie continued babbling and waited as her mum set Maddie on her feet, Lara bending slightly to brush over her curls. "Almost walking, huh? Time really is moving quickly."

She waited until they'd started slowly dwn the corridor at Maddie's pace before speaking. "I'm scared, Leslie. The books are daunting enough but when it's really happening... And I know Will's trying to be supportive and he is but I wish he wouldn't tell me its going to hurt or get worse."

Leslie walked over to Maddie and took her hands and lead her over to Lara and put one of those chubby hands around the pole. "Okay, both of you hold on tight." She warned in that mommy tone which was probably not the best tone to use for Lara, but it was more for Maddie's use. Taking her other hand, she let Maddie direct their walking direction.

Smiling comforting, she looked over at Lara, "First of all, did you ask him about what will happen? And you really do have every right to be scared, but birth is magical. It is the time in your life with the least amount of dignity and the most amount of love and pride. I am not going to feed you some crap, it does hurt, but its more in your head than in your body. I had to do it without an epidural, but its so much better for the baby, and its a faster recovery for you too." She spoke frankly, but with a still upbeat tone.

"Anyways, I bet you 5 galleons, the minute she sees gabe, she'll let go of everything and walk to him." She smiled, she knew Maddie looked ready, so it was a matter of time before she just upped and went.

Lara was glad Leslie was there to talk to and also that Maddie was there to help keep her mind off the looming delivery and her contractions. "She's growing up so fast. I remember when I first met her not long after you had her." Lara padded slowly down the corridor, wheeling along her IV pole, following Maddie's footsteps.

She was a bit sheepish at Leslie's question. If she hadn't asked she wouldn't be getting answers she didn't want to hear. "I asked him to be honest with me," Lara mumbled quietly. "Now I wish I'd just not asked. Ignorance is bliss, right?" At least Leslie agreed that she could be scared. Lara didn't want to be brave about this. She didnt think she could anyway. "Magical..." she murmured, thinking on that. "I know it is. It's a miracle, I just wish I had more time to psyche myself up for it. I'm not used the lack of dignity. I mean I felt so embarrassed when my waters broke before." Lara reddened. This probably sounded silly. "I'm feeling the love though." Everyone was being really supportive.

What she appreciated was that even though Leslie was being honest (it was going to hurt) she'd gone through it as well, epidual-less and all but apparently in was all in her mind. She just had to get in the right mindset to be able to take the pain. The upbeat tone helped as well. "Thank you. I'm glad I called for you. I just needed to hear all this from someone who'd been through this before."

Lara was glad of a change of topic, pausing as her stomach started to tighten again and winced gripping her IV pole, breathing in and out slowly and deeply. Still she tried to keep up with conversation to keep her mind off the pain. "5 galleons? Okay... five, she gets a step of two and falls... ow... on her butt."

Leslie stopped Maddie who seemed okay to chill between her mummy and auntie. Poor auntie was in pain. When Maddie looked ahead, she smiled behind her soother and let go of mummy's hand and the pole and started taking a step, then another one then another one until she looked back and mummy was far away (5 steps). Maddie wiggled on spot before ending on her bum. Leslie laughed as Maddie finished crawling to Gabe. "Nice try Turnip. Lara, I owe you 5 galleons." Leslie joked before turning to Lara and helping her with the breathing from the birth classes that Gabe thought were a joke.

"Alright, let's get you back to bed." Leslie murmured and lead her sister in-law to her room.

A few hours later, Declan was back in the room to check on Lara. She had moved along very quickly and was now ready to give birth.

"Ok, you're fully dilated," he said. "So now it's time to move onto the delivery. So at the very next contraction, I want you to focus on pushing as hard as you can and hold it for ten seconds."

Leslie had managed to bring Lara back to her room in time for the next wave of contractions and from there, things seemed to speed up. The contractions grew closer together and worsened and Lara was getting progressively more cranky and nervous. Every minute she tried to relax and get some sleep, she was met with a contraction, only managing a few bites of the sandwiches her family brought up from the cafeteria

Her sister-in-law's advice had been valuable. The pain was all in he head. Of course, in Lara's opinion it was one thing to say that and believe it after you'd had a baby but when you were going through it at the time, it was another story. Lara felt tired and her hair was already falling out of the ponytail she'd tied her hair back into, her fringe plastered to her forehead.

When Declan re-entered the room (after several hourly visits) Lara was back up on the bed catching a quick breather between contractions. At the news that she was fully dilated and ready to move onto delivery, Lara shot Will a wide eyed, panicked look, reaching to grab onto his hand. "Now...?" Delivery. At the end of this they'd have their son.

She didnt have to wait long for the next contraction, squeezing Will's hand and pushing, just as Declan instructed. It hurt. The strangled cry as she pushed said that. Of course it hurt, she was delivering a baby. Lara just had never imagined... she didn't know how difficult if would be. Ten seconds seemed such a long time all of a sudden - hours long and Lara had to stop after about six, eyes already welling over, gasping to catch her breath from the contraction and the first bout of pushing. "I can't... I can't..." she whimpered.
