Rat's smile was infectious, or maybe it was the company and easy converation but Sophie was really enjoying herself. He really was rather cute. Sophie was only used to mixing with guys her own age... students or new graduates. Rat was a few years older than her but it felt nice. Kids her own age could be too... childish, although she was one to talk. "She really is. I guess I really look up to her. She's always been there for me, since I was tiny."

Her ears pricked at the mention of a friend. Sophie was always looking to make more friends. "Really? I'd love to meet them!" She nodded an enthusiastic grin on her face which turned almost curious at the thought of someone around her at all times making sure she stayed safe. "Are you offering?" The question just slipped out and Sophie let out a nervous giggle, averting her gaze. "Uh... that was corny. Sorry." Truth was, she wouldn't mind if he was volunteering.

Her moment of embarassment was swept away when she was asked about her need to dance. "Well... it is a party and the music is rather catchy. Come and have some fun." Sophie twirled with ease, accompanied by a small wobble in her heels although it might have been the two glasses of wine - she wasn't quite used to drinking yet.

"I dance when I can, partner or none. The last time I danced with a parnter that wasn't my sister was..." Sophie paused to think, trying to concentrate as Rat's hands rested on her hips and she found herself taking an unconscious step closer, the hand resting on his shoulder just as unconsciously sliding round to rest at the back of his neck. "Probably the Hogwarts Yule-time ball in my sixth year. I said yes to being a seventh year's date for the night."

"Thanks."

So he at least wasn't as socially awkward as he expected himself to be. Around Anna was just simple because he had known her long enough and...well several reasons. People in general? Not so much. He took a drink from his glass and then another but he was more interested in suggesting what had come to mind when they got there. It was a ball after-all right?

"Do you want to dance?"

"Always a good thing to have someone to look up to." He gave her a small smile, just soaking in the mood of the dance. Sophie was actually making the dance better than he had thought it could be. Plus, he still had the mysterious part of it because she had no clue what he looked like under the red mask.

Rat gave a long laugh at her excitement. Maybe there was a possibility that Ali and Sophie would be good friends. "Yeah, just have to see if I can find her. Though I have a feeling you may meet Ali before me if you two both have a likelyhood of getting injured," he teased. Though the teasing was stopped short when she asked the question. Would that be a good idea? They had just met, but really, the two were hitting it off pretty well. "Maybe," was all he could answer with.

It would be a mystery then as to if he was. Hey, tonight was just a mysterious night. Anything could happen. Like the fact that Sophie seemed to be wobbling. It was pure reaction that he held her a bit tighter as she came back from her twirl. "I am having fun."

"Ah, so you go for the older sort," he joked before giving her another smile to show that it was just a joke. Rat didn't really notice her movements, he was too busy concentrating on Sophie and the dancing. He never said he was perfect at it. "What is your favorite kind of dance then?"

She took the gin and tonic from her husband and sipped it finding it nice and strong. Nodding at his invite, she took Gabe's hand and lead in onto the dance floor. "Thank you, masked stranger..." She laughed, trying to put her worries about Liam taking care of Maddie from her mind in order to enjoy the night.

One they were out on the floor, Leslie swayed her hips, and danced with Gabe, they sure needed these times to themselves more often. Soon enough they would want to expand their family, and then the time together would slowly dwindle.

"A pleasure to meet you, Gabrielle," he stated, inclining his head slightly, and grinning, more like smirking, as he usually did. He couldn't help it; beautiful women elicited almost the same reaction from him. Now, beautiful masked women, that was slightly more alluring than usual, and he couldn't help but to be intrigued even more so. So when Gabrielle accepted his proposal to dance, and stood up he kept his half-grin, half-smirk in place as he merely stated, "In that case, I'm enjoying myself a lot more now." As he led her away to the dance floor.

The music had slightly increased in tempo, as slowly more people were joining it, and Alejandro was nowhere near shy enough, nor actually proper enough to ask permission; instead he just simply spun her around and into him as his hands went to her waist as he swayed them to the rhythm of the music. With a simple smirk, he took the opportunity that the music was louder on the dance floor to lean in to her and speak directly in to her ear, "You'll have to forgive me if my dancing is less than adequate."

Walking around for the better part of the night thus far, Kerri had pulled out her recorder to occupy herself. She made idle comments about outfits, interactions and the club itself. She had no idea why she was sent to cover such a foolish, thing. The affordable drinks were what made the trip worth it. But she enjoyed watching everyone in their groups or pairs. Just because she had no idea what a proper conversation entailed, didn't mean she didn' like watching them happen. being a people watcher was easier than to extend your neck out.

Tina watched idly at the whole interaction, willingly giving Amaris control over the whole conversation; she was much more social than Tina herself, and she relished in it a lot more. She of course introduced herself to Amber as she came and joined the group, grinning and merely stating, "Tina, pleasure to meet you." But after that, she remained mostly quiet, ordering a couple of drinks and downing them, waving at Lucan when she saw him and grinning as Logan joined them, kissing his cheek in return. After all, it was a Valentine's Day celebration; no need to reject him.

As she turned around to take the other drink, she noted that the bar was getting particularly crowded, especially to Amaris. Being the amazing friend that she was -alcohol apparently also took away her modesty- she suggested, "I think we've overstayed our welcome at the bar," she laughed and grinned turning to Logan, "How about it? Can you handle four hot young women," She was of course, referring to herself, Amaris, Shayna and Amber, "At once? And I do mean dancing, Logan." she cleared up with a small smirk, already cutting him off of his probable thoughts.

She turned to all the girls and asked, "How about it?" Amaris of course, agreed immediately, that was definitely something that was predictable in almost all circumstances.

"So who did you look up to? I mean, if you took care of your older brother..." Sophie was glad she'd plucked up the courage to talk to him at the bar, or... not so much courage, but picked him to chatter with. There was little chance now of the evening being boring in the slightest.

Maybe she was a little too excited... but she was enjoying herself and she'd had a little bit to drink. That and it was a party and she loved to have fun when she could. "She's here, tonight?" Sophie's gaze was already scanning the room as if expecting to pick out Rat's friend out of the gathered crowd. She laughed as he continued. She and his friend sounded as it they had a good bit in common then, if he was so sure they'd get along... and probably end up injured and in Mungo's.

Sophie was amused by the teasing. She liked it and smiled. She was a little caught off guard by the teasing trailing off and his short answer when she'd asked if he was offering to stay with her at all times to see her safe. Of course, she'd just been joking, trying to flirt and now she just felt a bit embarassed, if a little thrown by the response. "I... sorry. I didn't mean.... I was just trying to, uh... yeah..." Sophie trailed off, stumbling a step or two over her own feet, grabbing his arm for support. "Sorry..."

She stopped, taking a deep breath a small smile retruning slowly but surely, conscious that Rat was holding her a bit tighter. "I'm having fun too." she grinned genuinely. "I'm having a blast!" Joke or not, Sophie bit her lip at Rat's question about liking older men and shrugged a little shyly, although still smiling. "Maybe...I guess it's nice to be with someone who's had a bit more experience in life. I had only a couple of boyfriends at school and they were only a year or so older."

Her hips swayed and ducked, Sophie fairly conscious of Rat's hands on her waist holding her tight as she tried to manouver them further into the crowd, oblivious really to anyone else. "I dont exactly know any proper dances... like waltz or tango or anything like that. I wanted to learn but it just never happened." And money had been tight for a while. "I like to just wing it... freestyle... let the mood take me. What about you? Are you a dancer? You're doing pretty good at the moment."

Rat had to think about it for a bit. Who did he look up to? "Probably the man that I got named after. He was a medic in my dad's company and saved his butt on countless occasions, plus a couple of others."

He shook his head as both an answer and just because he couldn't get over how energetic she was. "Not that I know of. I haven't seen her much besides the occasional visits at work when she gets hurt," he told her. Really, that was maybe what, ten times in two years. Things just weren't like Hogwarts anymore.

He breathed out a sigh at her attempt to explain that she was sorry. After all, he had been a little short with his answer. "It's chill. I just think you are strong enough to stay safe on your own, but if you need someone. Well, I'm pretty sure you can find me quickly if you need to be safe," he said as he helped her become stable.

Rat couldn't help but pull her a bit closer to him to make sure she wouldn't fall. It was his nature to want everyone that he grew close with to be safe. "Ah, well that's logical."

"Hmm, freestyle is always a nice change of pace. And to answer your question, I'm not really. There were some balls that I went to for my parent's work, but I kinda stayed off the dance floor." He hadn't really danced much at those because it was truly old people and not so nice people.

Amber-Lynn smiled. "Nice to meet you too Tina."

She laughed at Tina's comment. "Im sure he can handle us in a place other then the dance floor." She said and then smiled.

Amber smiled. "Hell yah!" She said about dancing. She loved partying. Alcohol, dancing, boys, what could be any better?

"Come on Logan? Dont be scared, we wont wont bite." She winked and laughed.

"Promise!" She laughed again.

She looked around at everybody else who was dancing and having a good time and just smiled. It had been a while since she was at a party like this. But hey the more people the better right?

The parties she went to were normally just a couple people like ten tops. But this was way better. Amber-Lynn wasn't very shy so she aften took that to her advantage.

There was just something extremely attractive about dancing with a masked stranger. She wasn't sure why, she just knew that it was. It was probably why she enjoyed things like this. Partying, clubs in general were great, but things like this? They were almost exciting.

Alejandro spun her around and she leaned into him, moving to the music. His actions were confident, and she found that even more attractive. Hesitancy was annoying. Gabrielle was nowhere near shy, nor hesitant, and took advantage of how close they were. With the tiny smirk still on her face, she replied, "No, no, your dancing is more than adequate."

And it was. If it hadn't been, she'd probably have walked away to find someone else to dance with. But he managed to keep her attention, which was somewhat hard to do. He'd also been relatively polite, which was also pretty attractive. This Alejandro guy was pretty awesome. Oddly enough, it had taken her all of five minutes to decide that. Tonight was great; it definitely beat staying in or working, that was for sure.

Anna raised an eyebrow and laughed at what Shawn called her, right. And then he sort of looked around and Anna followed suit, returning to Shawn just as he started to down a glass and she furrowed her eyebrows, slightly worried, slightly...she didn't know. A moment later, though, and he looked back to normal and she shrugged it off.

As for his question she grinned, how long had it been since she'd heard it? A voice reasoned - too long. "Oh, if I were to answer that...we'd be here for a while." She just shrugged to add to that, and smiled when Dante asked her to dance.

"Oh, yes, sounds great." Dancing? It was one of those things people sort of brushed off and said they weren't good at. She didn't have high hopes for herself, but she did want to have a good time. She put down her barely touched drink and they made their way into the crowd to dance. "So, enjoying yourself?"

Dante was pretty sure that whatever he had been taught as far as dancing went wouldn't do him much good, but he was attempting to not complain about a single thing for the night. Same went with not avoiding any social situations either. Putting his hands on Anna's waist, he nodded in answer to her question.

"Absolutely. Better than being yelled at for hermiting."
He grinned. "What about you?"

The typical concern of what would people think or anything of that sort was put out of mind as far as he was concerned. Hadn't that gotten him into trouble before? So ignoring it sounded a lot better.

Sophie waited patiently while Rat thought about his answer. "So Rat, isn't that uncommon a name. He sounds like a wonderful man," her smile was genuine. "I guess the name Rat fit a tradion for lifesavers." She looked up at him pointedly. "He saved lifed in the army, you save lives in the hospital."

She laughed lightl. Alright she she wouldn't get to meet this friend of his tonight. "Well, maybe we'll meet each other at the hospital. You sound close." Well, apparently her apology was unwarranted. "Really? Well, I'll certainly try to keep out of trouble. But, thanks. I'll certainly keep you in mind if I need a safe haven."

Sophie bit her lip as she was pulled closer, pink cheeks, small smile. "Just because you don't dance much, doesn't mean you can't. Just... relax and have fun with it!" she grinned stepping back and twirling on the spot again, hair flaring out. "What do you do for fun? I mean when you're not at work? Supposing you do do stuff for fun, that is...My sister's a workaholic. Never gets out."

He nodded along, trying to think how totally right she was. It wasn't common though, Rat had been a nickname for the other man. He wasn't even sure if Rat had to do with the man's real name. "Maybe that's how its supposed to be then."

"We were during school, but lately, the whole group of our friends drifted apart unless we live with each other." Rat didn't say it in a sad tone. In fact, he still did see Desi most of the time for her injuries and there was always Nitro and Fintan, who he lived with. It just sucked that they couldn't always hang out, so he put those thoughts aside and focused on Sophie. "You are very welcome then."

He laughed as the end of her hair barely brushed against him when she twirled. "Hmm, now that you mention it, I have no clue. There is mostly healing both at home and work. My brother, our friend, and I share a flat so there is normally some point of danger with them and blowing things up," he responded. Now that Rat thought about it, he sounded like a workaholic but for some good reasons. "And you?"

"That is how it's supposed to be," she nodded firmly. Okay, so she'd only known Rat the duration of this conversation and dance but did that matter?

"People drift, I guess. I've got lots of friends from school I haven't heard from, friends from when I live in Australia." Sophie had written to some of them but it didn't mean they'd had replies. Maybe a few. Still, she was smiling.

Sophie giggled as she twirled, the lights and faces on the dancefloor, a blur. "Oh! I'm sorry!" she ducked her head sheepishly when her hair brushed Rat's face, even if barely. "Oh you must do something, like read or go for walks... maybe a sport?" It wasn't healthy to work all the time. Her sister did and Sophie saw what a toll it took on her.

She laughed draping both arms over his shoulder. "Sounds like a busy household but sounds like a lot of fun." What did she do? Where did she start? "Lots. I shop, I go out and have fun when I can, I like listening to music and walking out two eight month old puppies, I used to fly at school, swimming..." Sophie trailed off. There she was chattering on again. "Sorry. Rambling again but really, you name it I've either tried it or might be willing to."

Rat was so easy to talk to. "You know, I'm glad I said hi to you, over at the bar."

Anna shook her head at the mention of hermiting, the term was ridiculously accurate in describing Dante's habit of hiding away. It seemed like the perfect thing to do at times, but still not the best thing. Thus... always pulling him out of the habit. He'd gotten too used to it, again, and she sighed.

"If you at least did it in moderation you wouldn't be yelled at, but nope, you just hermit away for long amounts of time." She shook her head and tutted, though she was joking and smiling.

She replied to his question after a small moment of silence, "Yes. It's better to dance and be with friends than go through everything that's been happening lately again." She said the word dance as if it had quotations around it. Her and Dante weren't professionals or anything. "Plus, it's like a reunion or something, haven't seen Winnie or you in a long while."

Rat chuckled at how serious she sounded. Okay, so it probably was not the best thing to laugh at, but she made it sounded more serious than needed. Now that he thought about it, he was glad that he came to this ball. Even if the only person he met was Sophie, it was a night that he would never forget. "Then it is."

"I guess that just happens with time then. Just have to keep hold of the people you got," he commented. Most of the people were going to be from the wizarding community, that was just how life seemed to be. People stayed within their own communities because they normally hung around those people.

He couldn't help laughing again when she apologized for something so... innocent and harmless. "I read some. But I don't know, maybe I will start to do more of a hobby. Maybe I should go find my friends instead of waiting or take up dancing," he suggested with a shrug.

He seriously couldn't stop laughing as she just went on being adorable and rambling. Rat was fine with her talking. He was a good listener. "Whoa, someone is busy and to think you haven't found a job that you would like to do. Maybe you should do an advice column for graduating students to look at for school."

"I'm glad that you came over and that I responded," he admitted back. Truthfully, Rat couldn't believe that he was being so social when none of his friends were there.

Rat had chuckled at her words and Sophie tried to think if she'd said anything funny. Then again, she was always being taken as amusing. "I like your name and... I guess I like you too," her grin was a little lopsided.

When he mentioned keeping a hold of the people you've got, Sophie very nearly found hesrself blurting, 'well... you've got a hold of me now...' but stopped herself. He'd think her girlish and childish perhaps and they hardly knew each other. Instead, she nodded. "I'll keep a hold of my sister then adn the few friends I've keep in contact with."

Alright, she had to stop apologising. Rat however, seemed to be amused by it... "Reading's always good. Helps you to relax. I've always got a book by my bed. Nothing too heavy though. "Well... if you ever find yourself bored... you could always send me an owl and I could give you a hand finding a hobbie..." Sophie chanced a shy glance up at him. She was flirting. It had been a while.

"Who knows, maybe in the process I'll find something worthy of taking on as a job. An advice collumn sounds like it could be fun," she mused, thinking about it. "Like answering their worries about what to do after?"

He was glad she came over too. Sophie smiled looking up at him. "Well, we have the rest of teh evening ahead of us... unless you get sick of me."

Rat returned the grin with a smile. It was becoming a bit obvious that Sophie was flirting with him, but he didn't really mind it. In fact, the flirting was kind of nice. "Well thank you. I like you too."

"Lucky ducks." He actually had no clue why he said it, but it felt like something right to say. After having said it, his cheeks became red for a bit. At that point, he was just glad that his mask hadn't fell off and that the lights were pretty dim. He was still a mystery when it came to appearence and Sophie wouldn't be able to tell how red his face had became. Because Rat was no flirter and that was his best attempt at it.

"So you read something light then. Maybe something like those super chicky ones about the girl falling head over heals for the bad boy and changing him to become a lovable guy?" he questioned in another teasing voice. Actually, he had read some of those by force from the girls he hung with because he didn't get why they enjoyed them. "I might just take you up on that offer then."

"Hmm, now that you mention it... nah, I really do enjoy your company," he joked because it was such an easy thing to do. With Sophie, talking and having a good time was easier. But that could also be because of the masks and the fact that she was a stranger that knew a bit more about him than most people.
