Leaving the gates Emma apparated straight home, pausing on the front porch to catch her breath. The sweep her hair over the makeshift bandage she used to cover the fang marks on her neck, wrapping her arms around herself to cover the blood and hole on her shirt where the knife had gone in. She knew Kevin would see them anyway but she did want him to worry or be faced with the moment she got in. Emma knew she needed to be properly checked out at the hospital - have the stiches looked at and the fang marks, and for the bump to be properly monitored - but she just really wanted to get home and see her husband and her daughter first. Maybe a clean set of clothes, or something to eat. To know that nothing had happened while she'd been gone.... How long had she been gone? Biting her lip, Emma pushed open the front door, stepping inside, walking quietly through the house before coming to a stop in the living-room doorway. She searched the room before her tired gaze fell on Kevin, trying and failing to muster up a small smile before murmuring, "Hi...." |

Kevin looked up tiredly. He was gripping the baby monitor tight enough he thought he might tear the skin clean across his knuckles. His eyes were bloodshot with the worry and lack of sleep. He had in his hand a file; a single file, with which he was writing down lists of all those who had been reported missing, including those among their own department. Emma, Julie, Pierce... His breath caught; when he heard the voice, he thought he had to have been dreaming. How many times recently had he imagined she would be there when he turned around, after all? A tired, disbelieving smile suddenly broke across his face. When he had imagined her, she was never injured. That meant this was real. This was really his wife. She was alive, home... He'd jumped off the couch a minute later to wrap his arms around her tightly, without being too firm. He could see she was in pain. He breathed in her scent, her hair, the fact that she really was there. She was real. Tired tears sprang out of relief, but he paid them no mind. A moment later he had twisted, lifting her into his arms and carrying her to the couch, laying her down and then kneeling near to her, brushing hair out of her eyes. "Bonjour." He whispered, the french falling out. "I was so worried. What happened? We...we have to take you to Mungo's, don't we? I'm not taking no for an answer, ma cheri..." And then he'd leaned over to hug her again, the tears now leaking out of his eyes. "What happened?" He murmured. |

Kevin looked as if he'd had about as much sleep as she had as he looked up on her arrival and Emma tried, she really did to match his smile but when he crossed the room and drew her into his arms all she could do was break down, burying her face in his shirt, wincing slightly as her stitches were rubbed. Now that she was away frm the alternate reality, safe from the danger, safe from having to face any more tasks, or watch anyone else get hurt or killed, everything that had happened over the last few days were flashing before her eyes. She hardly noticed when Kevin lifted her up, carrying her over to the sofa and laying her down but the familiar sounds of French finally gave her a chance to relax. She was home and safe with her husband, her family. "How... how did you know I needed to go to Mungo's?" she murmurered, looking at him curiously. Then after a few days like she and the forty others had had, it was always wise to be checked over. Biting her lip, Emma drew back from the warm hug she had been enjoying and lifted her shirt over her bump, revealing the line of stitches across the top if her stomach, wincing as she did so. "I...we were tied up. Two of the group werent and were given potions that gave them the symptoms of being drunk. They had to cut us free with large knives. I wasn't so lucky. They stitched me up." Her hand then moved, lifting to brush her hair away from her neck revealing the scrap of her shirt she'd used as a light bandage around her neck to cover the fang marks. "They riled up the vampires and the werewolfs. One of the vampires floored me and bit... They didn't drain much but the marks are still there." He wanted to know what happened she shrugged wiping at her eyes, gently wiping away the tears from his. "Same as usual. One psycho wants to teach us a lesson. Makes us do things, messes with emotions, hurts people... kills them." She bit her lip. Kevin wasn't likely to take Julie's death well. "It was all about equality. We were in an alternate reality, at Hogwarts, following tarot cards. It was Voldemort this time and ... Kevin... Julie, she's. Julie's dead." |

Quietly running his hand up and down Emma's arm, softly caressing her as he listened and winced. Another psycho? His face contorted a moment later as she explained what it was exactly she'd been through--and who was behind it. "Voldemo--" He cut himself off in surprise, realizing something as hatred for the "man" coursed through him. If Voldemort had been behind it, and he'd been sent the knife... "Tigs was there, wasn't she?" He said after the pause, cursing under his breath, closing his eyes and counting to ten before opening it again. Of course it was her. He should have realized that right away. The only person he knew that would bait him like that, by sending the damn knife used to-- He gasped a second later and proceeded to immediately pick her up, bridal style lift, keeping his arms around her waist. They had stabbed her in her stomach. That bitch had-- Well, actually he supposed he didn't know if it had been Tigs herself. Considering Tigs wouldn't hurt children, probably not either. Still though, his breath caught and his eyebrows wiggled as his face contorted in fear and shock. "Okay. Katie is with your parents, so we're going to go to Mungos." He said as soothingly as possible, kissing her forehead. What hadn't processed was what she said next. Struck dumb for a moment, he simply blinked. "What?" He slipped into french instantly, murmuring, "No, that's not..." Julie could not be dead. She could not, be dead. It wasn't like he didn't trust Emma; she just had to be mistaken some how. There had to be some kind of trick there. Saying nothing at all for a very long time and just standing there, he blinked. His hands squeezed tighter around Emma's waist, rolling into balls and pressing his forefinger and thumb into his stomach. He was massaging it mildly, feeling rather as though it wasn't there anymore. His eyes were wide. His head was apparently on 'stun' mode. "No. No. No, I don't believe it." He was shaking his head vehemently from side to side. "There's something else. No. She's not. She's not. It's not...no. No." He just shook his head harder and harder, refusing to let the thought go farther. He curled her closer, holding onto his wife with all he had, trying not to think at all. She was injured. He had to make sure she was okay. He kissed her forehead again as he disapparated. |

Apparently the first part of her tale seemed to sink in faster and Emma nodded silently as Kevin asked for confirmation about Voldemort being responsible. He'd been the one responsible last time she'd been taken and found herself strapped to a stone slab as a human blood sacrifice. Her eyes darkened thought when he mentioned Tiger and nodded again. "Right at the end. She killed a guy called Lone. She didnt stab me. We were tied up and two of the group were given potions that made them have the syptoms of being drunk." Her eyes glazed a moment thinking back. "They had to cut us free, with sharp knives. One of them slipped. It was an accident. Gabe and one of the other healers stitched me up best they could." Emma watched his reaction, repeating but not expecting an answer. "How did you know I was hurt?" She winced as Kevin lifted her back into his arms and winced some more as his grip tightened. The second part of her news seeming to sink in. Emma just glanced up at him as he started to come to terms with what she'd said, not believing it. But then, this would be the second time he'd lost Julie. Of course, Emma knew the news would hurt him and hated to be the one to tell it. "She was stabbed," she whispered. "Through the heart by her cousin. She was being controlled, like a puppet and Julie couldn't move. The rest of us were in a box or behind a wall or something. We tried to fight but none of us could stop it...." Emma felt a lump in her throat building as she recounted the tale. Emma fell silent and a moment later they disapparated to Mungo's. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having owled her parents to ask if they'd watch Katie and Toby for a few hours and in addition, also to watch Claire and Arram, Emma had also owled Kevin to let him know what they were going to try and do. This was potentially dangerous. Julie was pregnant and Emma was still out of shape after having Toby, and they were going to try and trap a stalker and rapist baiting themselves by spraying the perfume in her family's home. They must be crazy but it seemed like the only plan they had. Arriving back at the house, Emma ushered Julie and the kids inside telling them to make themselves at home and within fifteen minutes of arriving, her parents had come to collect the kids and taken them back to their house. They were just waiting for Jace and Kevin if he could get off work. Settling onto the sofa in the living room, Emma set the perfume and note on the coffee table while they waited, staring at them thoughtfully, pondering over who could be responsible. "So, so far we have Matthew, Kevin and Llian on the list... Somehow I don't think I can see Kev or Llian raping or stalking. It's just not them." Plus she didn't even want to imagine it. Not her husband especially. They did have those three in common though but then if other women had been sent the perfume too, and roses (Emma was now pretty sure the rose she'd recieved a few months back had to have been from this Stalker). then either the culprit knew all of them, or maybe their victims had something in common. "So far my money's on Matthew and if this doesn't work, he'll be the first person I go to to question about this." Edited by Emma_D'Abugine, May 16 2010, 01:44 AM.

They were waiting, and Julie was honestly getting more nervous as time went on at the prospect of seeing him face to face, of knowing who it was who had attacked her. But there was also something else... a kind of nervous excitement. She wanted nothing more than to put this guy behind bars or kill him. The idea that it was so close to happening was almost thrilling. While they were waiting, they were discussing who it might be. "Of course it's not Llian or Kevin," Julie said, shaking her head. She was pretty sure she'd be able to tell if it was either of them, and she knew for a fact that neither of them would ever do something like that. "I'm with you on Matthew." He was the only person she could think of that made any sense. |

Jason had been in the middle of some business when he got Julie's letter. At first, he had taken it and ignored it as he was mid-sentence, but it was a moment later that he had a second to scan the note for what was going on. Hearing that Julie and a friend of hers were going to try to bait the man who had attacked her in their own home, with the other woman's perfume and in the other woman's house, while Julie was very, very pregnant and her friend, he thought, had just had her own child? Well, 'business' was completed rather hastily, and it was for that reason that when he apparated to the address he had been getting, letter falling only as ashes to the ground, that he was wiping the mess off his hands, flipping the safety back on his gun before sliding it back in it's holster. As typical law requires, Jace knocked on the door as soon as he reached it, banging a little harder than he had meant to. Also typical, he called out, "It's Jace." Instead of just walking in after announcing he was there and who he was though, Jace gave a few moment's courtesy to open the door, though he wanted nothing more to just burst in and make sure that they hadn't gone ahead with their plan. Merlin, sometimes. Just...sometimes. He was shaking his head for a second as he shoved his cloth back into his pocket. |

When the knock on the door came, Julie pulled herself to her feet. Of course, as she did so, the baby started moving. She wasn't sure whether it was the baby picking up on her own agitation to just do something, her hearing the noise of the knock or perhaps Jace's voice, or just completely unrelated, but really: she would decide to kick up a storm right then. "Ok, so that's Jace. Do we want to wait on Kevin, or just go from here?" She figured that Jace was more than enough of a match for whoever this guy was, especially with both her and Emma there as trained Aurors, but she didn't know if Emma would be more comfortable waiting for Kevin. She went to answer the door, finding her somewhat agitated-looking husband standing there. "Hey. Sorry for interrupting your work." She had no idea what he was up to for the day, and it was just now dawning on her that she probably shouldn't have just interrupted him like that. But she just got so single-minded on things that it was difficult for her to stop once she got going on an idea. "I just... I wanted to get this done before he has a chance to attack anyone else," she explained. "Thanks for coming." |

Emma was definitely sure it wasnt Llian or Kevin, that would have been too weird and and she didnt want to imagine it either. It seemed more probable to think it might be Matthew, after all he had connections with both her and Julie but then if others had been targetted then were they all connected still, or was it all just random? If the stalker didnt turn up when she sprayed the perfume, Emma was going to track down Matthew and ask him herself. See if he was involved. The fact that they were actually going to try this was a little nerve wracking. They were trying to trap a rapist and stalker. If something went wrong, who knew what might happen. But at least their other halves had been notified and Jace was definitely coming along to help them out, in fact that was a knock the door and Jace calling out that he was there. "I guess it's best we get this over with sooner rather than later... before the guys can talk us out of it." Before she changed her mind. She watched Julie go to open the door and let a worried looking Jace in and offered him a small smile. "Thanks for coming. I dont think we could do this ourselves given our currently conditions if anything were to go wrong." Emma nodded towards the perfume bottle on the coffee table. "So how would be best to do this? Hide you two in the other room and I spray it in here? Or hold our noses, spray it and hope he doesnt realise there's three of us here?" Julie had mentioned smelling the potion dulls the senses. "whoever is in the room when the perfume is sprayed is going to be mmore strongly affected by it... Figures at least one of us would need to be out of the room so as not to get affected." |

Work that day had quite honestly, been the last thing on his mind. The moment he had gotten the letter from Emma about what Julie and Emma were going to attempt to do--explaining hastily in it the reason why the unknown perfume was such cause for distress (facts he hadn't known previously), he had been out of his seat and ready to go. Of course, Lynx had been in a meeting and he hadn't been able to find Abi (was she out on another patrol?) to let either of them know he was taking an extended lunch break. ...So he'd settled for Tyler, and told Tyler to owl Abi the truth about what was going on and that if you wanted to get technical this was work as it was arresting someone and then he'd told Tyler to put anything else he could think of to make it okay for him to leave work because he 'just couldn't deal with the logistics of leaving at the moment as he was way too frantic and--" It was about that moment that Tyler had cut him off and told him firmly to go. He was about ten feet behind Jace, he noted, as his front door opened and he followed. "No need to wait." He said firmly, in response to catching the tail end of Julie's question from the doorway, running a hand through his hair. "I'm here." And Emma was certainly right that he wanted to talk her out of it. He walked over to her as she spoke, as she laid out the plan and then he paused. It was harder, he thought. Harder if he was to take her into his arms right then and tell her it was all right-- because then nerves would fail. He cast a single glance in Julie's direction, some swell of fury, rage, and heartache blossoming as he looked at the grim determination on her face and reconciled it with what he knew now had happened to her. Detaching from a situation was rather hard for Kevin to do. But it wasn't as a concerned and furious husband that he was going to catch this guy; it was as a trained Auror providing back up for the two other trained Aurors in the room. And Jace. Whatever else Kevin knew about Jace--and he had to admit it wasn't much--he did know that technically speaking Jace might be the one this perp had the most to worry about, as he wasn't technically bound by the rules of their job. Then again, he wasn't feeling very restrained himself at the moment. And Emma and Julie? Kevin wouldn't want to face either of them in a fury; he knew first hand how fierce both of them could be. So, he thought to himself in summation, the four of us against one guy? There actually isn't much to worry about here; it was whether or not the guy would survive that he had to worry about. As he had no intention of arresting any of them...or going to that place himself. "I agree." He said to the latter part of Emma's statement. "At least one of us shouldn't be in the room." He frowned and found that other words were failing him at that moment, as he'd get simply too emotional about what both of the women in the room were facing. He couldn't help it. He knew they could take care of themselves, he knew it-- and yet at that moment he was having a very hard time keeping himself away from a primal protective "male" mindset. |

Emma looked up when Kevin followed in behind Jace, giving her husband a small and determined smile. There was no was she was going to be talked ut of this and she was fairly sure that went the same for Julie. Julie had been attacked already and it would stand to reason she'd want to see him locked up, and Emma was determined she wasn't going to be victim to the same fate. Of course, it wasn't going to be as easy as just spraying the perfume and hoping for the best. "One of us should definitely be out of the room if all out senses are dumbed and the Stalker attacks, is just one of us coming in to fight back, going to be enough?" She raised her eyebrows. They had to think about this. "Also, if the Stalker can somehow sense when the perfumes are sprayed and knows where to go, surely he's expecting to only find the woman he sent it to..." She wasn't liking where this thought was taking her. |

Jace didn't have to wait for long, because a minute went by (and he could hear voices inside) and the door was opening to reveal his wife. For a moment, he just looked at her, registering her apology for interrupting his work. For some reason, he found that...incredibly amusing. Despite the situation that he had been brought that for, a glimpse of a grin gracing his face. "Not interrupting." He told her, "Just...hurrying the process." Which honestly wasn't a big deal. He'd just had a small amount of respect for the other man and wanted to give him a chance to talk his way out. Unfortunately, other information came to light during the discussion and the man was a danger to his family. It'd made the job much easier. And this, this situation then was simply an extension of protecting his family. Perhaps said family was doing a hell of a job getting into bad situations - sometimes unintentionally - but it was still just an extension. "I understand." He added as he walked into the house. "I'm glad you called me." If she was going to do this - and he figured she needed to - it made him glad that at least she told him about it, and wanted him there. "Hello Emma." Before he could make any other suggestions though, the other husband walked through the door. He couldn't help it; he turned to examine the man, because he'd never seen him before and it was important to know what could be a threat. Jace turned back to the women, apparently fine with what he saw, and asked, "Well, whomever sprays it will be...handicapped, correct? That's a liability. If the man is intelligent enough he would be able to use that to his advantage. Do we know how much is necessary for the effects to work, and what might happen if the entire bottle is broken? There's no reason to keep it, right? We don't necessarily need to have anyone in the room to be affected." |

Julie nodded a greeting to Kevin as he entered. She had no idea how much Emma told him about the whole situation, but she was a little uneasy that he had to know or suspect something given that he didn't seem surprised at all that she was there. She didn't want to think about that, though, so she just tried to think about the whole thing like just another case. It wasn't just another case, but she was trying. "I think maybe it should...only be Emma in the room," she suggested. "And then when he--when he gets here, he'll have that split second where he's lulled into a false sense of security, and then we can step out and take over from there." She looked at Emma. "Are you ok with that? I'd volunteer, but..." She trailed off, deciding not to finish that statement. She had no desire to make herself that vulnerable again, especially not when she had a chance to get the guy. As much as she trusted Jace, and as much as she was aware that Emma and Kevin were very capable Aurors, she wasn't going to do that. She wanted to help be responsible for bringing down this guy, whomever he was. "I don't think we should break the entire bottle," she replied to Jace's suggestion. "Just one spray was... enough. The rest we could drain or keep for evidence purposes. But I think it's too strong to just break the bottle." She didn't know that for sure, but it was a guess. "And maybe try spraying it in the air, not directly on the skin." |

Well. It wasn't his job. He was simply there for backup. And, as of such, he was just there to do whatever he was told. Rubbing his face for a moment, he then nodded and looked at Emma, waving away Julie's response to his comment about what they could do about it. Julie was orchestrating the entire thing, so he was quiet. He figured that his wife was more than capable to understand it, though he also knew she had strong emotions in this certain case. "Where are the kids?" He instead asked, pretty much done talking. It was the last thing he just needed to know before they did whatever they were going to do. |

When Julie suggested that Emma be the one to stay in the living-room with the perfume, she nodded. "I think you're right. I mean if he knew when you sprayed it, who's to say whether or not he might know ifthe victim is alone in the room." Of course that didnt mean she wasnt nervous, given when their stalker had done to Julie... but it had to be done. "You guys should wait in the hall with the door closed or the bedroom." She nodded at the mention of using just the one spray and in the air, not the skin. If just one spray had had the effect on Julie she'd told her about, Emma was not chancing the whole bottle. And they'd need evidence after and something to check at the labs. "Still, if it's as potent as you say, I dont know how much use I'll be once I've sprayed it, on the skin or in the air, so you three better be quick." If he turned up that is. Picking up the perfume bottle, Emma rolled it between her hands. Well this would be fun. "I guess we should do this then. All four kids are with my parents, safe and sound until we need to collect them." Edited by Emma_D'Abugine, May 21 2010, 08:48 PM.

Julie was going to answer Jace when he asked where the kids were, but Emma took care of that. Instead, she focused on finishing the plan for the arrest...or, what she hoped would be the arrest. Camille was kicking her quite a bit now, which made it hard for her to focus. Julie figured she was probably picking up on all of the high-running emotions in the room. "Yeah, you're right. We should probably hide in the hallway." Emma told them they had to be quick, and Julie immediately nodded. "Don't worry: we've got your back," she assured her. "So. Guess we should get this show on the road?" |

Jace nodded when he was told that the kids were with Emma's parents, though he wasn't exactly comfortable with that. He didn't know them; he didn't know the location of their house, their occupations, if they were able to take care of three or four children under the age of three at the same time... But if Julie, of all people, had left them with her parents, he supposed all must have been okay. And despite him not liking this whole situation, he didn't really have a choice anyways. So instead, he nodded again, and then shrugged his jacket tigher around his shoulders, fingering the catch on his toy. "Guess so." Was his mere reply, heading towards the direction that Emma had gestured in when describing where they could hide until she sprayed it. |

Emma was not looking forward to this. As soon as she sprayed that perfume that was no knowing how much use (if any) she'd be once and if she was affected by it. There was no telling if their stalker would even show up - if he'd be fooled into thinking she was alone to do with what he wished, or if he'd somehow know Julie, Jace and Kevin were hidden in the hallway in wait. If he attacked, who know how easily it'd be to arrest him. But it had to be her. It was her house, she'd been sent the perfume... He'd be expecting her. "Thanks," she gave Julie a small and appreciative smile as she assured her they had her back, and watched as the three of them disappeared into the hallway and the door closed. Picking up the perfume bottle, Emma rolled back and forth in her hands, sinking onto the sofa in case it affected her balance. It looked harmless enough but it didnt mean it was. It was now or never. Removing the lid, Emma turned the nozzle away from her and spritzed a spray into the air watching the droplets in the air, unable to avoid some landing on her skin or smelling the sweet smell - not particularly her taste but not terrible either. Sprayed directly or not after a few seconds, Emma found her mind starting to cloud a little, her limbs feeling heavy senses dulling a little. The perfume bottle slid from her grasp, rolling across the sofa and she tried to reach out for it but her arms didn't seem to want to move far, her fingers moving slightly and eyes flickering after the bottle. She could understand why Julie hadnt been able to fight back. Her thoughts were fogging up.... clouding... |

Julie was waiting anxiously, her hand gripped around her wand, feeling Camille kicking her periodically. It was uncomfortable and not just because she was almost full term in her pregnancy. It was uncomfortable knowing that in a few minutes she might be coming face to face with her attacker. Yet at the same time she was experiencing some sort of adrenaline rush from the whole thing. Her heart was pounding, she could feel herself getting more and more anxious to just catch this guy and end it... But nothing happened. At first, she thought they just had to wait. She thought he'd be sure to be along sooner or later. But the perfume was sprayed, Emma was in the living room, alone, and there was no sign of him anywhere. "We've just got to wait...just a little longer..." She knew she probably sounded desperate, but she didn't care. She was beyond caring about anything but just catching this guy. But what must have been five minutes later when he didn't show up, she finally sighed and dropped her wand, saying what she knew the two men with her had to be thinking. "I guess he's...not coming. I mean, it was a lot faster...before." Shaking her head, she pocketed away her wand and looked up at Jace as Kevin went to Ennervate Emma. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to just cause all this trouble for nothing." It was a crazy plan, and she was at least grateful that they were willing to indulge the idea and help out. "Can we just...get the kids and go home now?" All she wanted to do was go be with her family, wanting anything to distract from the disappointment she was feeling from the fact that he didn't show and the fear she was feeling from the knowledge that he was still out there. After making sure Emma was all right and after she had apologized to the other two for essentially wasting their time, they left to get the kids. [permission to GM from all parties] |
