Kerrighan Hannon's Office; away from her home for safety purposes

Kerrighan's office is small and rather messy, a sad attempt at organization has been made. This is one room in a small suite she rents for the sole purpose of writing and researching her book. Here she employs another person in the office and he researches with her.

The office is located away from her home and away from the home of her parents. One can never be too cautious with a book being written about people who have no shame in harming innocent citizens.

Jana had dressed smartly for the occasion. Still having a natural aversion to skirts, she chose black slacks, a light blue stretch sweater, and flats. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail, but one strand of hair was loose and it was really bothering her at the moment. She kept having to tuck it back.

The office was in the building of a suite, so she was let in by the doorman and 'buzzed' up, a fact which made her laugh. After knocking a few times on the door, she called out,

"Ms. Hannon? It's Jana Rivers."

Kerrighan had been sitting at her desk reading over the points that Evan (her assistant) had dug up about Jana. Apparently she was a good person to interview, this should be fun. However, just as she was getting ready to put her things in her bag, Kerri heard the door knock. Walking through her door and down the hall, she opened the door to the suite and smiled. "Nice to meet you Ms. Rivers. I'm Kerrighan Hannon, and I apologize if you had to wait long." She said once she opened the door. "Now just a safety precaution, I hope you understand." She said, grabbing her secrecy sensor.

Once she was done, a smile returned to her face, "Please, have a seat, would you like coffee? Tea? Pumpkin Juice?" She asked her guest, leading her to a comfortable seating area in the suite. Here they would do their interview, it was private and quiet here.

"Nice to meet you too, Ms. Hannon."

Startled, Jana jumped a bit as she was jabbed with a secrecy sensor. The most she had with her was a small clutch. Sickles, knuts, her wand, and an apparition license...were really that dangerous? Her eyebrow arched a bit and she gave a tiny smile as she finished saying, "Er, sure, it's okay. These are dangerous times."

Okay, at least the sensor only poked her a few times.

As she entered the room, her eyebrow arched slightly higher at the questions. "Oh, no no, it's all right." She took a seat, tucking her ankle behind the other.

"Shall we get started? And can I know what paper this interview is for?"

Kerri say down beside a small table and opened up the note pad beside her, grabbing a pen... much more efficient than quills when interviewing. She smiled and folded her hands in her lap briefly. "Oh no, no, no.... this interview isn't for a paper, Miss Rivers. I am writing a book to expose the lies, and mishaps that occur from the carelessness of purebloods. My assistant found out about you and I believe you can give me a good sized chapter to this book." She said with a stiff politeness.

Finally she moved to a file cabinet and pulled out a contract from within a drawer. "If you sign this, you will recieve a small payment, and it will cover all your rights to not be identified, seeing as we're dealing with murderers..." She said coming back to the chairs and handing Jana both the contract and her pen.

Her head spinning slightly, Jana stiffened slightly hearing the words 'carelessness of purebloods'. She sat in a stiff sort of silence for a second, bewildered. This interview wasn't about the election, was it? Swallowing, she slowly took the contract and pen, but didn't sign it just yet.

"If I am to understand you wish to interview me about...what happened to me, I can tell you for certain that it wasn't carelessness. It was deliberate prejudice and psychosis."

Her voice was shaking as she rephrased that before she looked down at the contract and blinked a few times. Saying quietly, "My right not to be identified as your source?"

Oh.

The fact was she'd give over information to harm either Damien or Curran anyday-- she didn't really care about Callie or Cassie-- thinking about it with Catalina or Anne made her head hurt, and Caleb...what was her boyfriend going to think if she sat there slandering his family? She'd do anything she could not to harm his reputation- think of the election!- and didn't that include his family?

So she paused, and asked, "When would your book be coming out, Ms. Hannon?"

Kerrighan was pleased to see that Jana was at least entertaining the idea of being an exclusive source to her book. "I no doubt would downplay your story. I have none of the details, that you will of course provide me, but I will serve you justice. Read over the contract carefully, there's no fine print saying I will turn around and screw you over. I want you to understand that this is a big deal, for both of us and for..."

She held up her wand and the file her assistant made on Jana and Damien flew into her hand. "Mr. Damien Silverhawk.... So your protection is important to me. Each session we have will put a hundred galleons into your pocket and the amount of sessions is determined by you and how much you disclose. I believe in making the payment equal or greater to the risk of the task. I just ask that they be at least an hour long as to not waste either of our time." She said simply and sat back comfortably in her chair and folded her hands in her lap.

She listened to Jana and her question of the release date. "I am aiming for a January release, but the editors and publishers are trying to keep it off the market as long as humanly possible. If its not released by January, I will find the means to have it published by April at the absolute latest." She informed Jana and then smiled. "No worries, your information on Mr. Silverhawk will not be the only information on him." She tried soothing.

Jana sat in a shocked silence. There had been a slight flinch hearing his name bandied about so casually, but now she was absolutely rigid. Mouth agape. Eyes wide. Her throat felt inexplicably dry, and she couldn't find the words to say.

She'd only just decided to talk to a therapist about what had happened to her. Talking to a reporter? She wasn't ready for that. It wasn't something she wanted becoming six o'clock news, her story told over and over again, details of the personally victimizing offenses made a slogan on a billboard. It was so...public. What had happened, what she felt...what she'd been through...it was private.

A hundred galleons?

An hour spent turning over evidence to illuminate the world on the prejudice inherrent in the Wizarding society for a hundred galleons. Jana was still living off her savings- which was rapidly running out, and off the fortune Anna had. She had made a promise to herself what ever Anna said to pay that money back in full...but .. merlin dammit a hundred galleons? That was a small fortune.

A small fortune for an hour.

Evidence against Damien. An hour, talking about what he'd done to her. Talking about how he'd victimized her.

Jana was sitting in a rapt, shocked silence. Running a hand through her hair, she said slowly, "Ms. Hannon, please understand, there's nothing I want more than justice. Damien..."

Her voice shook slightly and she pursed her lips before continuing. "Isn't even worth a human pro-noun. It's just.." Why the hell was her voice quivering so badly? "It's not easy for me to talk about this. And I only, want to talk about Damien Silverhawk, not...the rest of them. Damien alone was responsible."

That was not directly true. Catalina had stolen her history to get a job. Anne had run her like a slave around the house. And merlin knew Curran..

"And his son, Curran Silverhawk, I have singular evidence against him. It's not much...but it's something. He certainly is his father's son."

Cassie, she didn't care about. An airhead married to a bigoted idiot. They deserved each other. Callie she hardly knew, despite spending five years in the house with her. There was no evidence there anyways. And Caleb?

Well merlin knew it was a miracle how he'd turned out in comparison to his family. Her lips twitched in a smile thinking about her boyfriend. She had determined a long time ago that going over revenge for the entire family was not what she wanted. That the only one she wanted to take said revenge against, was Damien. If she gave herself over to that hatred...there was going to be nothing left.

Shaking slightly, she said instead, "How long do I have to think about this?"

Kerrighan knew her chances were getting a bit better by the reaction that Jana was giving her. She watched her face, she was clearly shocked, but the cogs in her head were turning and that's all she needed. From experience, Kerrighan knew that if you made the prize sweet, the person you were after would come to you. If Jana was willing to sit down foran hour, she'd gradually raise the stakes, that's how bad she wanted this.

"Call me Kerri please. I don't doubt the difficulty and comfortability of discussing the situation. And when you say 'them' are you talking about the rest of his family or the rest of the community including those like him?" She asked, wanting to be clear about what she was getting into, make sure this was a good choice.

"If you wish to speak of Damien and Curran alone, then so be it, the remainder of his family will go without being named in our interview." She was willing to compromise. Kerri was interested in the cold, hard truth, not some half assed fabrication of the semi-truth.

"I'll give you a few days to mull it over, I just wish you speak about this to as few people as possible. The contract states that too if you sign. You can't be allowed to speak of the interview after its complete, I don't see this being an issue though, but once the book is released you can promote, slander, discuss it all you wish." She tries smiling because it seemed to be working with her. "If I don't hear from you by the weekend, I can either assume you're not interested, or you forgot about it." Kerri was looking relaxed now, most of the pressure was off.

"Okay, Kerri it is, and please call me Jana too. Yes- them, meaning, the other Silverhawk's. I don't judge on the grouped family basis, Kerri-- the rest of the family are actually really rather nice people. And I'm not just saying that because I was married to one of them.."

Okay so she was giving a little bit of a white lie- she didn't think of Catalina as a 'rather nice' person, but the rest of the family could just as easily have meant Caleb and Llian and Lynx and Gia, and she didn't want to talk about Cat or Anne either. So she just put them all out of limits. That worked.

Nodding slightly, she swallowed and shut her eyes. Talking about what happened to her was not going to be easy. It was actually going to be slightly brutally difficult. At the same time, she was thinking about how many people had ignored the prejudice that clearly existed. How many people had been sympathetic and outraged at Damien's arrest. How Damien had just thought it was okay, because of how she was born. The ignorance and the prejudice made her blood absolutely boil.

Talking about it for an hour seemed like a really small price to pay.

And the hundred galleons per hour helped too.

"You don't need to wait." Jana said, a bit shakily. "I'll do it, and we can start right now, although I obviously reserve the right not to answer a question if I don't want to."

And after writing in that only Damien and Curran were going to be mentioned at the bottom of the contract, she read over it carefully and signed her name across the bottom with a flourish.

There. "And of course I'm not going to tell anyone." She said easily. "Obviously safety is a huge consideration here."

She folded her hands over her knees, and smiled a thin, firm smile. "Where do you want to start?"

Kerri was jumping up and down inside, and surely had Jana not been there, she'd be doing the same explicitly. She took back the contract and the pen and signed it herself to show that she was also in on this commitment. "If you want a copy of that, you are welcome to owl my assitant Evan and he will get you a copy." Kerri told Kana as she tucked it away in the folder that had the couple little notes Evan had stuck in there about Jana and Damien.

"Well we'll start from the beginning, give me as much as you can, and I will prompt you when I'd like more elaboration." A voice recorder was summoned and placed on the table between both women. "Kerrighan Hannon, interviewing Jana Rivers. Okay, so let's start off with a few simple statements. Name, age, and occupation." Sitting back, Kerrighan pulled her notebook into her lap and crossed her legs, she was prepared.

"Now, tell me how you met Damien Silverhawk, your age, his age, common ties between the two of you and we'll start from there." She said, settling into her work. "Oh, and like you said, you do reserve the right to not answer a question, and if you need a break, we can take one, or even reconvene at a later time." She told Jana from her seat.

Jana had never been interviewed for anything more than an-uncommonly-amazing-kick at a football game (when she was nine), so she was a bit curious as to the set-up. Arching her eyebrow and observing as calmly as possible, she nodded and said, "Thank you, I'll be sure to do that."

That was just common sense. Yes, she'd read the contract over, and added to it herself, but she still was going to need a copy of it. And she was only thinking this through because she couldn't psych herself out of what she'd agreed to by sitting there thinking about what had happened to her prematurely. So instead she went over etiquette and focused on learning how-to-interview, and thought back to the football game...

"Jana Rivers, twenty-eight years old, and I'm currently working as a campaign manager." For Caleb, but she didn't need to say that. Crossing her legs as well and continuing to think about how it had felt to score that winning goal, she spoke shortly as she answered the question.

"I met Damien Silverhawk six and a half years ago, so I was...twenty one at the time. Damien was...well he's turned fifty, so I guess, forty three? Forty four? He came over to my house." She swallowed slightly. Think about that winning kick. "Cottage, actually, in Italy. I was living in Tuscany with my ... husband..." She rubbed over her finger for a second, feeling the absence of the ring at that moment. "Ex. My husband was his nephew. Being muggle-born, Damien was entirely against the marriage. He, uh, blamed me...for my husband becoming a blood traitor. Blamed me for dishonoring and disconnecting the family."

She swallowed for a second. "And the damn bastard decided that because of my bloodline, Kerri, it was all right for him to kidnap and enslave me. But you already knew that, didn't you?"

She indicated the file. It wasn't Kerri she was mad at, obviously. She was furious with Damien.

Kerri gave a non-commital shrug. "I know the bones of the story from what was given to me, you're here to give me the flesh." She spoke in a calm even voice. "So Damien came to visit you six, almost seven years ago, was this just the first encounter or was this the encounter on which he kidnapped you?" She pressed on, using Jana's momentary rage to get more information.

Continuing, her hand scrawling across the paper furiously while she looked up as much as she could at Jana while making sure she was also writing properly on the paper. "When Damien kidnapped you, was he alone, did he do it himself? Was your ex there at the time of the kidnapping? How did you go about being untraced for so long while being married?" This was just the beginning and already it was good, so many questions she had, and in due time they'd be answered.

"It was both." Jana said simply. "I had only heard of him from my ex--understandably, he didn't speak to that side of the family. We hadn't actually told anyone we'd gotten married--eloped, and Damien liked that even less."

The rapid-fire questions about the actual kidnapping caused her hand to go to her neck unconsciously. How many times had she gone over it in her mind by now? How many times had she dreamt it-- she'd relived it literally once when showing Llian, had nightmares about it...it was ridiculous that even the kidnap itself was hard to talk about.

"We left the country...but that wasn't too out of the ordinary for me or my ex. I was a travel agent at the time, and he was a frequent traveler...that's actually how we met. So it was fairly straightforward to not tell anyone. I still am not entirely aware of how Damien learned of our eloping." She shuddered. "It was less important to me how than the fact that he did, and was being ignorant and barbaric enough to take me the way he did."

Well that was one way to put it.

"He was alone, yes. He didn't tell anyone that he had me either. My ex was on a trip, we both were alone. Damien made me-- by that I mean Imperiused me, and when that failed...he tortured me and then re-imperiused me.." Her voice was shaking by this point, but she fixed her stare on her interviewer's eyes. This would help people, yes? Show them the truth of prejudice?

That made it worth it.

"He wanted to make it look like I'd left my husband willingly. He succeeded at that. Had me write a note, pack up, and go with him. Threw me in a dungeon for four months. Looked to the world that I'd just up and left."

Her voice was still shaking with hoarse rage as she finished, "Broke his own nephews heart because he married me." Bastard-idiot-rapist-psychoti--

That one football kick clearly wasn't enough. The hatred and disgust was part of why she didn't like talking about this, but the rage was another thing. She wanted that bastard dead for what he'd done to her when she talked like this, and then she had to remind herself why it was that was a bad idea.

So clearly, she couldn't focus on football. Obviously thinking about Llian wasn't going to help any. She didn't have her rings. So she naturally fell to thinking about Caleb, and the day they'd spent together before that maze. Shopping, walking around the park, eating, talking, laughing...

That calmed her down.

Kerrighan was slowly getting just as enraged as her client was, she hid it better, a calming draught had become a norm for her to use both before and after such emotional interviews. Trying to swallow the the rage that built up she continued. "Okay, you married your ex, Damien found out and kidnpped you... iperiused, cruciated then imperiused again." She reiterated in order make sure she had the details. That was always taught to you in journalism school, repeat back the information to make sure you're both clear, and that you hadn't misunderstood your client.

Sitting back she thought for a brief moment about what seemed weird to her. "So you were in this dungeon for you said... four months? What made Damien release you from the dungeon? You were gone longer than four months." Kerri was pushing. "What happened to you in those first four months?" She asked, her hand slightly shaking. Kerrighan was in utter disbelief at the fact that Damien had done this and he wasn't given the Kiss yet. Then again, look who who was controlling the government.

"An admirably succinct summary, yes." Jana was still putting it as simply as she could. Thinking of Llian as 'the ex' was a lot easier, but it would probably be harder to only speak of Caleb as 'elder son'. Mainly because she had a strange need to show everyone that Caleb was not his father- no matter what his father or sister thought- but wasn't sure what Caleb himself thought on the matter.

For obvious reasons, they didn't really talk about his family.

There was a comfort of sorts, though, that came with speaking Caleb's name. Unable to do so, she simply repeated it in her head as she focused on the four months she usually blocked out of her life.

Ardently.

"Four months, give or take a few days. What happened in those four months? Nothing." She swallowed. "Damien couldn't figure out, I guess, the fact that I could get around the Imperius curse. He never, he couldn't, take control of my mind." Her voice was different as she trailed off. Distant. "In the end that didn't matter..." Ha. No, it hadn't mattered. If anything, the fact that he couldn't take her mind had been the worst torture. Imperius was something of a bliss. A happy, la, la, la, feeling...devoid of personal thought, you're susceptible to suggestion. What Damien had done was different, and worse. She'd known exactly what she was doing, and had yet been unable to stop herself.

Having trailed off again, she continued, her voice weaker.

"He used the research of a German Healer, Callum Robinson, to liquidize the Imperius curse. It was..different. I knew what was happening, I knew I didn't want to do what he said, and I was bound to do it anyways. After four months of living in solitude in that dungeon, I couldn't take it anymore. Damien came one night, I told him...I told him I was no good to him down there." Her eyes fluttered for a second, but she kept them wide open.

"Yes, I was gone for longer than four months. Five years, seven months, two days, two hours, and thirty two minutes. ...Exactly."

Her voice sounded vacant as she recited it. A recitation of the fact, and then her voice just completely died off. She shook slightly, keeping her eyes trained on her interviewer and continuously was reaching for the rings that were not there.

"I'm sorry, could we pick this up at another time? I'm late for an appointment..." She said as kindly as possible, before leaving.
