Upon their arrival at the hospital, the receptionist had made them fill out forms in the lobby, and then they had wheeled Krysi (hospital policy insisted on a wheelchair) upstairs to the maternity ward. They got her changed into her gown and settled in one of the rooms before Morgan was allowed back in. Once he was, though, he quickly headed straight to her bedside. "How are you feeling? Can I get you anything?" At the moment, they were waiting for a Healer on duty to come see them; an Acolyte had checked them in and brought them up. |

So the stares when Krysi and Morgan and Tristan came in were more than a little bit annoying. So what if she was wearing a bleeding wedding gown? Didn't people have better things to do? The wheelchair was annoying too. She'd apparated there, she wasn't going to crumble to the floor and bemoan her pains to the world. Please. At least she was slightly grateful to the chair when another contraction hit her. This time, because she wasn't trying to not alarm everyone, and get through a ceremony - SHE WAS MARRIED!!! - she allowed herself to cry out, white-knuckled against the arms. When they got to the room, the acolyte kicked Morgan out, and Krysi was about to freaken spazz at them - it wasn't acceptable to kick out her husband, merlinddamnit, she was pregnant, didn't they realize he had seen everything already? - but the acolyte was quick, her dress hanging up in the corner of the room and Krysi in a bed, Morgan coming back in moments later. "You can stay right here." Krysi said, still slightly annoyed at the acolyte. Okay, so it was probably some protocol or something, she was just starting to really hurt, and heavens knew it was easy to blame anyone on anything when that happened. She was restless against the pillows, but the acolyte had asked for her to wait there until she had seen a healer, and then she could get up and move around if she wished. "I feel like someone's taking a sledgehammer to my insides, and then grabbing the whole mushed mess and pulling." Krysi said, scooting over and tugging gnetly so he'd sit down with her, "Please?" It was the only vocal due she gave to her request. |

"I'm not going anywhere," Morgan promised. And he wouldn't; he was going to be there through the whole thing. In that room. With her. He already hadn't been too thrilled with having to leave for just that short amount of time when she was changing. He couldn't help but wince slightly in sympathy as Krysi explained what, exactly, labor felt like. "I'm so sorry," he said. "But you're doing great. It'll be over before you know it. Do you need me to get you anything?" But she just pulled at his arm, gesturing for him to sit down, and that he did, sitting next to her and sliding his arm around her. He kissed her temple. "Just think - soon we'll be meeting our baby for the first time," he said with a smile. |

It was a pretty slow night at St. Mungo's. Not much was happening in the emergency room - nothing the other Healers on staff couldn't handle (which, in Chris' mind, was basically nothing, to give some point of reference). So when a woman came in having a baby, Chris had decided to take the case himself. It wasn't like he didn't have any right to - Gabe wasn't on that night ,and it was his ward, but Chris outranked the other Healers on duty that night. And he felt like taking a patient. Besides, it wasn't like there was a Director around to really tell them what to do. In Chris' mind, that meant he had much more free reign. He headed into the woman's room after reading her forms. "Good evening Mrs. Carter," he greeted her, his tone friendly. He looked over at the man sitting next to her. He was in a tux and wearing a ring, so it wasn't all that hard to put together that that was her new husband. "And Mr. Carter," he added. "I hear you two had a bit of an interruption during your wedding ceremony today." He looked down at the chart he head. "Mrs. Carter, would you mind telling me when the contractions started and how far apart they were then as well as about how far apart they are now?" |

Krysi shook her head when Morgan asked if she needed anything, because honestly, there wasn't much she could think of that would make things better. Anything else though, she filed away to talk about later, for a healer had come in. She responded to his greeting with a polite, "Good evening." But when he said there was an interruption to their wedding, she corrected - though she was sure it was a meaningless detail - , "No, we finished the ceremony before coming." When he asked her a question about her contractions, however, Krysi fell silent and tried to think back. "I'm...not entirely sure. I started to get back cramps last night, and I just figured they were nerves. They were slow, maybe an hour, more or less, apart. It's...five? or so minutes apart now. I'm sorry, I wasn't really counting." |

Abi's own hand was gripped around Tristan's in a rather-reminiscent-death-grip as she was halted by what looked like a frazzled Acolyte. Hm. Had they looked that frazzled when she was giving birth? She didn't remember. She did remember pelting them with ice-chips, so...well...probably. Honestly, Abi wouldn't take this job no matter how much someone would pay her. There were only so many of life's little miracles one could take. Aggravated by being forced to wait, Abi (tugging at Tristan's hand) pulled him into a chair near the room. She didn't care whatsoever that she was still wearing her lavender bridesmaid gown; it wasn't like she had a reason to be ashamed of being happy or anything. Life just had a way of celebrating, didn't it? Pft. "Okay, when do you think we'll be allowed in again?" Abi asked impatiently, forgetting she'd...asked that already. Okay, so, maybe she was as frazzled as the Acolyte. |

"Well, then, congratulations on the wedding," Chris replied with a smile. From what it sounded like based on Krysi's information, she had been in labor for quite some time. "Ok, well that honestly sounds about normal as far as how you're progressing," he said. "But we're going to start monitoring how far apart they are and see how far you're dilated. The most important thing is to remember to just keep breathing, and I know it's going to be tempting, but don't start pushing yet." He checked the chart again, noting, "And I see your water hasn't broken yet. Don't worry; that's perfectly normal. A lot of the time, the water doesn't break until the actual delivery. Now, I'm just going to check and see if the baby is in the right position. Right now she should be descending into pelvis, so if you feel pressure there, that's nothing to worry about." Chris knew that a lot of couples did quite a bit of reading about the birth of their baby - especially their first child - but he still liked to just reassure the parents as much as possible throughout the process. "You seem to be moving along at a fairly average pace, and either an Acolyte or I will be in to check on you about every half hour to see how you're moving along." As he spoke, he put his hands on her stomach, applying just a little pressure so he could get a better sense of where the baby was and how she was positioned. "Good news - your baby is in the right position, head down, and everything looks good. We're going to set up the heartbeat monitor so we can check the baby's progress as well." First he checked how far along she was in the labor process. "You're five and a half centimeters dilated right now; normally you'll be about 9 or 10 before the delivery process will begin, and now let's get a heartbeat." He set up the monitor quickly and efficiently, and soon the loud, strong heartbeat of the baby could be heard throughout the room. Chris listened, measuring carefully - why read the monitors when it was so much more accurate to do it himself? - and said, "Everything sounds good. The baby is nice and healthy. For now I'm going to remove the monitor so you can get up and walk around if you need to. Just remember that this is a natural process, and just go with whatever position you feel most comfortable in. That might be walking around, squatting, sitting up, staying right there... Just don't push, and we have to say no eating, but ice chips and water are available for you." All right. So sometimes he tended to overdo it on the information. "Is there anything you need or any questions I can answer before I go?" |

Morgan really didn't want to move when the Healer came in. Luckily, that didn't seem like it was going to be a problem, because he didn't seem to mind. He just nodded his thanks to the Healer's congratulations - Healer Daniels, as he read off the name on the lab coat. He was definitely relieved to hear that everything sounded good with the baby and with Krysi, and he was unable to stop smiling as he heard the heartbeat, loud and strong - just like at the last ultrasound. He was so incredibly grateful that it seemed to be an uncomplicated labor. He just wished it didn't have to hurt so much. While everything was being explained to them, he just held Krysi's hand with one of his own, the other arm still around her. When the Healer asked if they had any questions, he shook his head but turned to Krysi, in case she had anything she wanted to ask. |

Tristan was just waiting with Abi outside in the hallway. He'd seen the Healer go in and was, honestly, a little impatient himself to go see them. Of course, he figured they should at least wait until the Healer was done and for Morgan to come out and get them. He didn't want to just go in there uninvited, after all. Laughing at Abi's impatient question, he just took her hand and said, "You've already asked that, love. And I think we should at least wait till the Healer is done examining her. Then I'm sure Morgan will come tell us what's going on." All right, so he was probably just as impatient as his wife to find out what was going on with his niece or nephew. |

"Thank you." Krysi told him, looking up at the ceiling for a moment as she listened. "Breathe, and no pushing. Got it." Krysi held still while Chris took care of all the things that needed to be checked, relieved each time he said something was good or normal. Complications were just not necessary, in her opinion, but it had been something she was worried about. She figured that was pretty normal too, first time moms to be terrified of something going wrong. Five and a half centimeters. She was just barely over halfway there?! Bloody hell. However, her slight dismay was immediately overshadowed by the utter excitement she felt hearing the heartbeat. That? Was her baby. Her baby's heartbeat. Silly? But she was already proud. Listen to how strong it was! Krysi laughed when he mentioned ice chips, but she just shook her head. "I think you answered everything I could think of right now." |

"I did?" Abi asked, genuinely surprised and confused. Oh. Wow. Whoops. Okay, she was just a little stressed. "Sorry." She said with a small, small smile abashed and kissed his cheek, wrapping both of her hands around his arm. "I'm sure you're right. I'm just...can you believe it? Morgan and Krysi are married! And they're having their baby!" There was a pause as she realized that whatever was going on with this niece or nephew, she would be legally allowed to see them and the briefest bittersweet smile passed over her face. She recomposed, however. Happiness. This was a happy occasion. |

Chris smiled. "Well, as long as you're all set, I'll be on my way." He made note on her chart exactly where she was when he monitored her, writing down the exact time - he had to have it right down to the second - he checked her and all of that. He was nothing if not thorough with his patients' records. "I'll be in to check on you in a bit. Don't hesitate to get an Acolyte if you need anything." With that, he excused himself and headed out of the room, giving the expectant parents some time alone. |

Morgan thanked the Healer before he left, shifting slightly on the bed to better face Krysi. "So everything looks good," he said with a smile. "I cannot believe this is finally happening." Their baby was being born. It was unbelievable and almost surreal in a way. The entire day had been a somewhat surreal experience. It hadn't gotten a chance to sink in fully yet; he was married and about to meet his son or daughter for the first time. "You nervous?" he asked. When the door had open and shut as Chris left, Morgan clearly heard Abi's voice in the hallway. "I think Abi and Tristan are outside," he pointed out unnecessarily. "Do you want them to come in or would you prefer they didn't?" He'd go with whatever she wanted, as long as she was comfortable. |

It was amazing how less stressed she felt after she was told everything was okay, and had heard for herself their child's heartbeat. She allowed herself to relax slightly, even though she was sitting up seconds later, curling over her stomach. Krysi wasn't really the kind to make a lot of noise, but she was biting her lip pretty hard to be able to accomplish that. Most of the time, time passed in a ridiculously fast fashion. When you had a lot of things to do, and a limited time to do it, time flew. But every second of every minute during one of the contractions felt like a year, and tears were sliding down her cheeks slowly by the end of it. Just a few; they were gone as soon as she wiped them away. In, and out. "I am." She answered him, slowly unfolding herself once again, closing her eyes once she was back laying down. "But it's not like I can do anything about it. It's happening, and I just need to...go with the flow." Easier said than done; merlin. When he asked about Abi and Tris, she just shrugged, "They can come in." Distractions were welcome. |

Morgan moved his arm from around her to her back, gently rubbing it as she had another contraction. He could tell this one was, like the others, extremely painful, and his other hand moved up to gently brush away the tears that had formed on her cheeks. "You can do this," he assured her. "Before you know it, we'll be meeting our baby." When she mentioned that it would be all right for Abi and Tristan to come in, Morgan nodded. "Ok, I'll be right back." He got up and moved to the door, opening it. "Krysi said you guys can come in," he told them. |

Having sat discussing in really-not-quiet-whispers how excited they were, Abi did eventually get up to go in and offer many, many congratulations and good-lucks. A few minutes later, however, Abi realized they really ought to go home, get Drew and Anya to Tristan's mother--a prearranged happening for whenever Krysi had gone into labor--and come back as soon as possible. To meet her niece. Abi was loathe to leave Krysi, she really was. So, in the stead of hating it, she first hugged Morgan while..bouncing. And then she leaned over to hug Krysi some what gingerly, kissing her cheek and grinning. "I'll be right back." She said happily, hugging her one last time, and leaving the room. |

"I can do this." Krysi agreed, though she had her eyebrows furrowed as she said so. Millions of women did this, she could do it too. I just...hurt. And the whole 'fourteen hours' average? Fourteen hours of this?! That, is what Krysi didn't think she could do before snapping. It was a flurry of motion when Abi came in the room, and Krysi smiled, hugging her back with slight amusement; the woman was practically bouncing. "Take your time." Krysi told her. "I'm just over halfway there and have sort of been doing this for hours." On a much easier to handle scale. But as soon as the current contraction was over, she was basically fine. Shaky, tiring, but fine. As an absent thought, Krysi put her elbows on her raised knees (she was under the blanket now, because it was cold in the room) and put her chin on her linked fingers, asking, "Morgan? Is the nursery ready?" With all of the wedding preparations and mess of the last few months, she didn't even remember. |

Morgan waved goodbye to Abi and Tristan as they left to go bring their kids to Abi's mother's place. He had no doubt in his mind that they would be back shortly. Briefly his mind strayed to all of their wedding guests that they had sort of just left at the abbey. Oh well - he was sure his parents had done a good job clearing everyone out. He nodded at Krysi's questions. "Yes, the nursery's all ready. Our son or daughter has a completed place to sleep when they get home." Of course, they still didn't know the gender of the baby they were having. "Ok, so last chance to guess: do you think it's a boy or a girl?" Really, he would be equally as happy for either, and he knew Krysi would be as well. |

While Abi and Tristan were leaving, Krysi frowned deeper, her jaw clenched shut and her arms around her stomach as she rode another contraction. Where they getting closer? She...honestly couldn't tell. It was overwhelming enough, without having to actually sit there and count. But she did think they were getting closer. A little over a minute later, her face cleared again, and she smiled at the use of their 'son or daughter' in his sentence. Yes, everything was ready. One less thing to think about. Morgan's question though, made her laugh. "I don't even know what day it is." Krysi teased, "I think it's a 'she' day. But honestly? Either or. I only hope they inherit your kitchen skills." |

Morgan just held her hand as the next contraction hit. He was pretty sure that one was closer than the last one had been. Damn it, he'd forgotten to monitor the time. Oh well; he would with the next one. He made a note of when that one let up so he could have a point of reference. He laughed when she said that she hoped the baby got his culinary skills. "That would be nice; we can have breakfast in bed all the time. That's what children are for, right?" And then he added, "I just hope they get your looks." Krysi was definitely much easier on the eyes than he was, particularly if the baby was a girl. He didn't think any of his features would be really attractive on a woman. |
