Edward's Room

Julianna Eppes

Hours later, Juls was woken by the bright light streaming in from the window. Blearily, she opened her eyes, stretching like a cat until her fingers slightly touched warm skin.

...warm skin?

Juls focused on her surroundings, not quite understanding where she was, but when she sat up, keeping the twisted sheets wrapped around her, it all started to come back, flashes of images and emotions. Edward.

She smiled to herself and ran her fingers through her rather wild locks, scooting back to sit against the bedpost as she let herself slowly wake up. Mornings after were usually awkward, weren't they? Ah well. She didn't realy feel like getting up (nor would she run), and quite bluntly, looking around, she only saw about half her clothing.

Edward found himself waking up, when something moved next to him. Ah. Right. Even though he was already awake, he didn`t open his eyes, silently thinking to himself. Last night was... more than he could have ever hoped when he was leaving the manor last day.

At last he lazily opened his eyes and brushed one of his hands through his hair. He didn`t look at Juls, trying to concentrate on his own thoughts. His head felt heavy from all the thinking. Sitting up he leaned his back on the bedpost as well, his look darted to the wall in front of him.

And only after his eyes travelled around the room, he looked at Julianna. "Hey, look, you didn`t run away with all my money." he spoke instead of a simple 'good morning', raising his eyebrow at her.

Juls looked over when the bed shifted, and started nervously biting her lip after he completely - and she could tell purposely - ignored her.

So she just pulled her knees to her chest, lacing her fingers together around them, simply waiting. There wasn't much she could do, anyways, if he wasn't a morning person or if he was the kind of person to indicate she'd fulfilled what she was needed for, and should go.

After practically looking everywhere but her, Edward finally addressed Juls, and she just shook her head, "Nope. Like I said, don't need it."

She had to clear her thoat though, it was husky, hoarse. No surprise.

Edward watched her expresionlessly. He saw everything - her knees pulled to her chest, her eyes that looked unsure. "Great..." he murmured, somehow coldy. "Because I definately will need my wallet in the future." he said in the same tone.

Looking around he noticed his boxers and his jeans. Turning away from her he put them on and silently let his feet touch the ground. Ugh, mornings. Last night totaly kicked him off of the track and now he had no idea what he was going to do.

Slowly standing up from the bed he walked to the window, just to look through it. Once again he was ignoring Julianna, his mind working harder than it had before. He still wasn`t sure, neither he knew what to think.

After few long moments he finally turned to look at her. But then ran his hand through his hair, appearantly struggling with something. "You shouldn`t be here..." he told her, turning his eyes to look through the window again.

Juls immediately frowned at his tone, her eyes narrowing slightly. "I wasn't after your bloody money, I've told you that enough times." She snapped, seeing that he was getting dressed. She hated being talked down to.

She accioed all her clothes to herself so that she wouldn't be vulnerable and stuck in one area, and easily put it all on. Of course, because only the shirt took a short bit to button.

She sat on the edge of his bed, pulling her hair up into a lose bun as she fought with herself. Disappointment, and yet still amusement that she'd pegged him.

Perhaps he was uncomfortable with it, but she looked back up at his voice, having reached down to buckle her shoes. She didn't belong here, lovely.

So she just went back to putting on her heels, jaw clenched. "And I suppose you can tell me where I do then?"

Edward shrugged, just glancing at her for a short moment. "I believe you." he said in his usual tone. No emotions. And yet he felt that there was something that he couldn`t quite express. Of course, he didn`t want to, but he couldn`t understand what it was and it confused him.

Silently he walked to a big waredrobe by the wall and opening it pulled another shirt out. He started to button it up, but then Juls spoke and he turned to look at her. He struggled once again, as he was just watching her, frowning lightly to himself.

"Home?" he suggested, finishing with his shirt and dropping his hands by his sides. Now he just kept looking at her in silence, so many thoughts spinning in his head.

Juls just sighed, straightening up where she sat. "If you believed me then you wouldn't keep asking."

Whatever expression he was looking at her with, she didn't understand. She couldn't read it, but his words were enough to convince her that it was leaning on careless. Uncaring. Condescending, maybe?

Every word she spoke made her feel like she was saying the most idiotic things in the world, what with the way he was staring at her, and when he told her to go home, Juls just looked down, nodded to herself, and then stood up.

"Thanks for the tea." She answered stiffly, brushing her hands down her sides to smooth her rumpled shirt as she pivoted and walked towards the door.

Edward didn`t answer her first comment. He wasn`t sure if there was anything what he could have said. Besides, she seemed pretty pissed off, and anything he could say would have only annoyed her more. As strange as it was, it wasn`t his goal that morning.

As she turned around to walk away he frowned slightly. His eyes were on her back and he was struggling once more. This has never happened before. He had never struggled with anything. "Julianna!" he called the last moment, taking a small step forwards.

To his surprise this was the first time he used her name. And it sounded strange to him. Not bad, just strange. Silently he took few steps closer to her, his eyes still on her.

"You shouldn`t be here because... some people are going to come over and I don`t think that they would like you beign around here. And I highly doubt that you`d like them." he said being totally honest. But what was the chance that she would believe him? And yet, he felt horrible by apologizing to her.

Edward knew her for only one day. Why did he bother so much? One more phrase was on the tip of his tongue, but he swallowed it.

Right as Juls reached the door, her fingers on the frame as she went to turn out the room, to walk down the hallway. As he called her name though, She looked over her shoulder, pausing. Coming to a standstill.

When she looked, he wasn't by the wardrobe anymore, he was half-way across the room to her, and she supposed that was why she didn't just keep walking. Excuses.

And then it was his turn to pull out the whys and what not. Juls stopped looking at him and instead studied the floor.

"I understand. Not many people want others to know when they've had a fling." Which is why she should just leave. It didn't mean anything, it was just sex. Right? Thats what it usually was. Just one thing, and that was it.

Still...he called her back. And she wasn't sure exactly why.

Juls fidgeted, not quite sure she wanted to leave, and yet, not really comfortable with staying. He wanted her to leave, so she should. Yet, still, she didnt' move from the door.

Edward realized that he frowned deeply at her words. And then just stood there, watching her, a fight in his head. A part of him just wanted to let her go. But the other part didn`t want to treat her that rudely. And yet, her words made him frown more than any of his thoughts from before.

"A fling...?" he spoke, shaking his head. After a second he opened his mouth but nothing came out. It didn`t happen a lot, but he had nothing to say. His mind went blank as all what he could do was actually frown. "Whatever." he murmured at last.

Turning his back to her again he walked to a small table by the wall, and started to search something through the papers. To be honest, now he only wanted that she`d leave. Because appearantly she wanted from him more than he was thinking of giving. A fling...? They only had met for one night, for Merlin`s sake!

Obviously whatever she'd said made him...mad, she supposed, because he went back to the cold. The flipping emotions were wearing on her. Why in the world did everyone do that? One second they wanted to help, the next they were gone. One minute they wanted her, the next minute they wanted to kill her. One second they were buddy buddy, the next pushing her away.

Screw it all.

"Fling, one-nighter, whatever the hell you want to call it."

And she walked into the hallway, trying to find the stairs. Afterall, last night she'd been slightly distracted.

Edward didn`t answer to her. It was her who made it to be a one night stand. It was her who came all over him last night and the only thing he did was not stopping it. What did she want from him now? Yes, he wouldn`t have told her to leave so rudely, if there weren`t people coming over. But she didn`t even want to know much. So, if she insisted that this was a fling, she could have it her way.

Listening to the steps, he could say when she left the room. Slowly he left the papers alone (they were only a distraction anyway) and went to sit on the bed. He silently ran his hands through his face. How come he didn`t realize that last night would lead them to this?

He should have thought about it. He shouldn`t even asked her to come over. Of course, it always ended like this. Women wanted to be treated softly, but they never cared to ask. And Edward was definately not one of those people who`d start apologizing.

Juls finally found the stairs, but as she went to walk out the door, she realized she didn't have her purse. Damnit. This house was big enough, she'd already nearly gotten lost several times. And she didn't know where she'd dumped her purse. Was it back in the room, or had it been in the fireplace room, where her shirt had dropped (she remembered that part at least)?

Problem was, she didn't know where that room was.

Basically, she was mortified and she wanted to leave. Could she do without her purse? What was in it? Juls stood, discerning for a second what to do.

Damn it all to hell.

With a sigh, she walked back down the hallway, glancing quickly into doorways to find it.

Edward stood up from the bed after some time, realizing that he needed to make sure that the living room wasn`t messed up. He would have hated to get guests and realize that his shirt was still lying on the ground. Although as he walked out in the hallway, he could hear someone`s steps.

"I`ve thought you couldn`t wait to leave?" he, asked realizing that she was the only person that could be it. And he had no idea why she was still there. So, slowly he leant his shoulder on the wall, waiting for her answer.

Juls jumped when she heard Edward's voice suddenly behind her, and she turned around, startled. She'd have assumed he would have simply stayed in his room, getting dressed for his thing. Whenever it was. Oh God, were people about to arrive?

Juls stepped back from the door she was about to peek into and sullenly answered, "I'm looking for my purse. It has an anti-accio spell on it, the manufactuer thought it'd be a good idea to stop mugging."

His question though, slightly annoyed her, and her eyes mildly flashed as she crossed her arms, "Besides. You were the one kicking me out, I wasn't in any rush."

Edward`s eyebrows shot in the air. "Kicking you out? Can`t remember any of it. Merlin, it`s either you or me. But I think I`d remember trying to kick someone out." He spoke, looking at her. After a second he just straightened up, feeling tired of having this fight.

"Good luck with looking for your purse." he said before moving towards the straicase. He really had no time for this. And if she thought that he said she shouldn`t be there because she was 'a fling' it really was none of his business.

Juls just simply watched as he straightened up, trying to walk away again.

"What are you so defensive over?' Her quiet question slipped from her lips before she could stop it, and she flinched slightly. Still, she finished, "What did I say to make you so annoyed?"

It seemed like it was his thing to walk away from people, from problems. Or at least that was what she'd experienced several times that weekend. Really, she should gather whatever dignity she had left and go back home, maybe spend a few hours beating her feelings into some dish, something that took a lot of physical power and something she knew well enough she didn't have to think about.

But she didn't want to leave on this note. She hated leaving on this kind of note.

Edward stopped in his way and looked down at the ground for a couple of seconds. Then drummed his fingers on the wooden handrail. After few long seconds he turned around to look at her. His eyes examined all of her, but it didn`t help him much - she still confused him.

"Why do you even care?" he asked her. That question was really driving him mad. Why was she there and why she cared so much?

He crooked his head to the right. "You`ve said that it was just a fling. So let it go. Let`s keep it just a fling." he said, not moving yet.

Juls watched the way his shoulders moved under his shirt when he moved, and then when he stopped, tense. As he drummed his fingers. He didn't turn around, and she just sighed, about to ask if he would just direct her to the room they'd come into last night so she could just get out of his way.

But when she looked back up, he was staring at her. Again. Why did he make her feel like she did have a third leg?

"Because whatever happened we're both in less than happy moods, so obviously something happened. Something had to have happened. And I want to know what." She hesitated, "How to fix it?"

Juls wasn't a slut. She didn't just run into these things, wake up, and leave. Uncaring, unchanged as if it meant nothing, and as if it was a hobby. She was too compassionate for that.

"I don't do this normally." She told him. "Do you expect me just to leave thinking, 'oh, well that was nice.' and forget about it as I find my next victim?" She frowned. "I'm not like that." She finished fiercely.

But she shook her head, "But if that's what you want me to do..." She mentally added 'minus the next victim', "Then that's what I'll do. But I want you to stop staring at me like you don't know what the hell is going on and tell me what you want."

Edward looked at her thoughtfully. "It may be only me, but I think that you`re putting words in my mouth." he spoke, just because he had no intention to answer her questions. Even a school girl could figure them out. Or so, he hoped.

"What I want... hmm, that might be long. May I make a list?" he asked, still watching her. He was tired of her idea that he had to explain himself to her. He was annoyed that he couldn`t leave and was explaining himself.

"Look, you were the one who decided that it was a fling. So, why don`t you stick to your own theory?" he asked her, using attack for defence.
