Kevin had chuckled appreciatively at her question, shaking his fist and saying, "Yes, actually." Before bending over her, helping her and guiding her out the door, disapparating them both. When they'd arrived, and been hurried into a floating chair, they'd been sent upstairs, sat in a bed, and the Acolyte proceeded to hand her ..ice chips. Kevin had not let Emma's side the entire time, nor had he released her hand. There had to be something more effective than ice chips..He was panicked, trying to be as supportive as possible...as he snuck her wand out, and held it away from her, trying to joke about it silently with raised eyebrows. And then, he remembered something that his mom had told him about the painkillers making it hard to remember everything that was happening. He wanted Emma to be able to remember this day, there would be time for Matthew after...plenty of time for that. It was far easier for him to think that way knowing what she was going through at that moment. "Shh...it'll be ok, the Healer will be here soon." He said as calmly as he could, pulling a chair over to the bed, and offering his hand for her to squeeze. "You are my absolute hero at this moment, ok?" He smiled. |

Emma was glad that Kevin had managed to let out some of the frustrations he held for Matthew, in tha punch but apart from rolling her eyes yet again, remained silent. Once they'd arrived at St Mungo's it had been all go, with being ushered into a chair, checked in and being taken up to the Maternity ward to a bed. She stared at the cup of ice chips in her hand curiously. Ice? All the brilliant developements and discoveries of modern medicine, Muggle and Wizarding alike and they give her ice? What could ice chips do but cool her down? Emma shoved one in her mouth and chewed on it, it did ittle but vaguely take her mind off the aching pains in her abomen, pains which very gradually were starting to be more painful and closer togther. The sooner a Healer came and told her what was happening, the better. Emma wasnt entierly sure if she was ready to sit through labour just yet.... wasn't sure they were entirely prepapared. Kevin was being absolutely wonderful, despite having found her accompanied by Matthew and no doubt having heard Matthew claim the baby could be his. She wouldnt have blamed him had he been mad at her, or left her to find her own way to St Mungo's. Emma clutched at his hand firmly, glad he hadnt left. "So help me, if the labour is more painful than this, they'd better give me something a hell of a lot stronger than ice chips," Emma ground out, gripping his hand wincing. "If they don't there'll be hell to pay... if only I had my..." she trailed off, catching a glimpse of whatever it was, Kevin was trying to keep out of her reach and recognising it instantly. Her eyes narrowed. "You... bastard...." she muttered, stonily. "You had it all along, didn't you?" Her narrowed eyes relaxed just a tad as she noted the humor in his eyes. "What I wouldn't have done, to have had that back. Do you know how frustrating being pregnant is? I could have used that to blow stuff up, to relieve stress." Emma eyed her wand hungrily, aching to blow something up that moment to take her mind off her abdomen. Instead she shoved a couple more ice chips in her mouth. The last ground to ice dust. "And poor Gabe, I got him to help move all the baby stuff to the flat... and... decorate the nursery... So that's one less thing to worry about." Emma's expression softened at his last words. Damn her hormones. "Hero, huh? I dont know how heroic I feel exactly. I dont think I'm ready to do this.... Im not prepared to have a baby." |

Laughing a bit, and ignoring the comment- knowing that she was just in far more pain than he could imagine, he said offhandedly, "Yes, speaking of what you've done while relieving stress...Abi said to tell you that you owe her new cushions." His eyes twinkled. "Want to clue me in on that one?" He kept her wand away- saying as well, just as goodnaturedly, "And yes, of course I did...in my defense- you told me to do so." He still was smiling, but he attempted to pretend to look worried now. "After all, I saw the state of those cushions..." He shuddered humourously, "I''d rather not let that happen to me." Yanking his chair closer to her's, he softened as well- only continously trying to joke so it would cheer her up a bit- maybe take her mind off some of the pain. He couldn't imagine what she was going through...and he felt just about awful for it. He wouldn't be surprised to know how much she probably hated him in that moment, but he left his hand in a loose grip of hers. At her last words, he did his best to look supportive with that. "Shush." He clapped his hand on her shoulder now, smiling. "We're a team. Everything will be fine...and yes. You are my hero." His eyes twinkled again. "Just don't tell Abi that I said that." Emma paled slightly, if possible at the mention of Abi's cushions. She thought she'd been so careful. "I... well I needed something to do while you were all on the raid. I couldnt just sit there worrying and I was frustrated at being left behind..." she admitted sheepishly. "I sort of unstitched the embroidery and chucked a few in the fire. I think one survived the flames though... it's sat in the back of our wardrobe." Kevin was right. She had been saying a lot, that she wanted her wand taken from her, for everyone's safety but not having it, she never wanted it more. "I know..." she wined, staring past him at her wand. "I wouldnt have have done anything to to you... but now... as soon as I have my wand again, watch out," she added with a sly smile, whih turned to another grimance. "Where is that Healer? If they're not quick, they'll miss the birth! How do you feel about delivering the baby?" As Kevin reached up to squeeze her shoulder, Emma lifted her own on top of it, squeezing his fingers. "Thanks. Don't leave me okay. I dont like this one bit. It hurts. I reserve judgement about having another one until I push this one out and can see our healthy son." |

Slightly panicked, Kevin said fretfully, but joking, "Erm, I missed that class during training myself. David- " He stopped for a second, and then continued, still keeping himself upbeat, "-was quite insistant that I take him bowling instead. I told him we should go to class, but would he listen? Of course not." He looked up in relief as a Healer entered, except to see it was only a passing Acolyte, who helped set Emma up. After a few waves of her wand, Kevin frowned slightly, and she said apologetically, "I'm sorry, dear, you're moving alone, but you're only five centimeters dialated. It'll be a little while. I'll go get you something for the pain. " She exited a minute later, and Kevin squeezed Emma's hand again, offering his other if she wanted it. "When our daughter gets here, I'm sure it'll be worth it. If I could go through this for you, Em, I would." |

"There were classs?" Emma's eyes widened."Why was I not told? I coud have delivered the baby myself by now!" Of course she was joking as wel but it was a way to keep the mood light to take her mind off the pain. An then finally, a Healer.. okay well an Acolyte but it was still something."Five centimetres!?" Emma's eyes widened. "I can't keep doing this, another five centimeters. Isnt there anything you can give me to speed this up? Apparate it out? Pull it out or something?" Emma lay back against the pillow with a disgruntled sigh. "How long do you think until Im ten centimeters?" The Acolyte meerly shrugged with an amused smile and headed out. "It better be one good pain relief potion," Emma muttered but found her eyes lighting up at Kevin's offer. 'If I could go through this for you, Em, I would.' "Oh would you?" she asked, greatfully, shifting to sit up. "That would be wonderful. Does Gabe know I'm here? Or my parents?" |

Though it wasn't necessarily a bad place to work by any means, Chris generally preferred not to work in the Maternity ward. He preferred emergency medicine, where he got to see to all sorts of different cases. But there was nothing that Chris could really take care of at the moment, so he was assigned a case on the maternity ward. Well, at least he knew the patient. "Hey Emma, hi Kevin," he greeted them as he came in, checking the chart an Acolyte had handed to him. "How are you holding up?" he asked Emma. |

Emma was almost through her first cup of ice chips, deciding that they did practically nothing for her, when Chris walked in, all calm and his usual upbeat self. Okay well at least more cheerful than Emma, in her current state would have liked. She ignored the initial greeting and cut straight to the chase, eyes narrowing. "Just peachily," she muttered stonily. "I thought this wasn't meant to happen for about another two months...Please tell me you're here to tell me I'm fully dilated or that this is just a fluke." |

Dea walked through the halls following behind an acolyte, for once without Bobby. Jen was watching him for her, because this was kind of important. Her lips were quirked up in amusement as she watched the acolyte walk, seemingly with a air of someone trying to look important, but obviously annoyed they had to play tour. Finally they came to what seemed to be the right room, as the acolyte (Dea couldn't figure out his name, he was studiously ignoring her questions. So as he walked away, Dea just rolled her eyes to the ceiling for a moment, before knocking on the door. Today she had made a little bit more of an effort; she was wearing black dress pants, the only white button up blouse she had, and her hair was up in a neat(er) bun. "Healer Daniels?" she questioned, eyes travelling the room to access what exactly she'd be interuppting before resting on the person she assumed was Chris Daniels, the person she was told to talk to. |

Kevin smiled slightly and said, "No, I don't think he does, want me to owl him?" Of course, that meant dropping her hand, something he wasn't exactly keen on. He was saved by the Healer walking in. He brightened as he realized that they knew the Healer, although he supposed that made sense. "Hey, Chris." He greeted, and then let them do the talking for now, still clutching Emma's hand in case she needed him. He really couldn't imagine what she was going through, particularly if that Acolyte had said it was going to get worse... He couldn't help but wonder too, considering Chris had done the initial calculations. Maybe she was just early. Well. Two..months...that was sort of impossible, or at least, not a good sign. His eyes were creased with worry, because he was loathe to believe Matthew, and know that she'd gotten pregnant at a time when it might not be his...but, if the baby was to be healthy, then, wasn't that better? "Uh, here, let me take those.." He reached for the ice chips, considering he could sort of tell Emma was about to throw them, and turned to Chris adding, "Is there...anything else she could have?" Seeing someone else walk in, who he assumed was some sort of professional considering the way she was dressed, he gave a half hearted wave to her as well, and turned back to his wife. He could have sworn he knew her from somewhere. |

"You do seem to be a bit early," Chris told Emma, frowning slightly. "Although no formal test was ever done to figure out how far along you were," he said. "I wish I could tell you more, but at this point there's no time for one, so it's going to be a bit of a waiting game to see how big the baby is when he or she arrives," he said. He looked over at Kevin and inwardly sighed. That was the first question on everyone's minds at nearly every delivery he'd done. "There is a potion, but it depends on how far along the labor is," Chris said. "If it's too early, we don't want to be medicating the baby accidentally." He checked how far along she was, saying, "No, you're not fully dialated yet, but you are seven centimeters. About how many hours ago did you go into labor?" he asked. Then, hearing someone else come into the room, he turned to the young woman standing there. She wasn't an Acolyte, judging by the clothes, nor did he recognize her from anywhere else. "I'm Healer Daniels," he said. "Can I help you?" |

Dea smiled back at Kev and then turned her attention back to who she had come for. Quickly, she said, "I'm Deanna Winds, seventeen, and I'm here to be processed as an acolyte? They sent me up here, to you." She walked in and stood off to the side by the door so she wasn't blocking it incase another healer needed to come in, or they needed to leave. Instead of asking if she should come back another time, she asked, "Is there something I can do to help?" |

Emma considered his questions for a moment, before shaking her head. "Perhaps not, he'll be working in the ward somewhere. Chances are he'll hear I'm hear sometime." She shifted uncomfortably in the bed, trying to take deep breath but finding her grip tightening round the cup of ice chips. "Yes, please take them. Ow!" she bit her lip. "Please tell me these arent contractions. Or if they are tell me it'll be over soon." Emma growled, thrustig the amost empty cup of chips into Kevis hand. "Just give me my wand. If this baby doesnt shift soon, Im hexing it out!" Emma nodded towards the young woman who entered moments later, "Welcome to the fun house!" At Chris' statement that she was a bit early, she felt a flood of relief. See Matthew was wrong, she was early. She had to be... however there was a voice in the back of her head reminding her of Matthew's Monotones and the fact that he used to do a bit of Healing. She hoped for her sanity that Matthew was wrong. Emma was almost tempted to demand the potion now but despite the discomfort and twinges of pain she was experiencing, she didnt want to risk harming the baby. But seven centimeters... well that was certainly good news. Two centimeters in half an hour or so... perhaps the last three centimetres would be quicker. "Maybe six or seven hours ago... I dont know, maybe longer? Seem like hours anyway?" Emma looked to Kevin to see if he could confirm her hunch. "The pains started and my waters broke about half an hour before Kevin found me but I've been really restless and uncomfortable for a few days and my lower back and abdomen were rather aching yesterday... if that helps?" [[Imagine they've been sat there a while - Poor Kevin. ]] |

It had been a busy day in the Maternity ward and Gabe had been rushed off his feet. He was glad of the lull in patients before he had to get back to work and found himself hovering by the ward's reception desk, looking over the list of patients admitted today. A certain name had caught his eye almost immediately and sparked his interest. His cousin's name. But what was Emma doing in so early? She wasn't due for another two months. Taking note of which room she'd been put in, Gabe wandered down the corridors until he found the right door and knocking,, poked his head inside. There was quite a gathering already with Kevin at her bedside, Chris checking her over and a young woman he didn't know, hovering nearby. "You're a little early aren't you?" he enquired stepping into the room and crossing it to give his cousin a brief hug. By the glare he recieved on his attempt at a joke, he stepped back a bit, chuckling. "Well I'm guessing things are well underway? How far along?" Gabe then took note of the cup of ice chips to the side. "Those not working for you then?" |

Emma's head snapped round as the the door opened again and Gabe entered. However, hearing his initial question, her eyes narrowed into a glare, as he crossed the room and hugged him back somewhat stiffly. "Yes that thought hads crossed my mind, countless times, Gabe...in fact everyone I've seen since my waters broke, has said it." She didn't mention that one person hadn't said she was early. Emma shifted back up against the pillow, so she was sitting straighter. Lying down during contractions was not comfortable. "Last check, I was seven centimeter" Emma grumbled. "And no, those ice chips arent useful. I'm just waiting to find out if I can have any pain relief yet." She shifted again, not another one! She'd only had one five or ten minutes ago. "Oh, ow! There's another one coming, ow, ow, ow,ow, owwwww!" Emma gripped hard onto Kevin's hand in her grasp. "They're getting getting worse an closer together. Gabe, you're a Healer and my cousin. Why in Merlin's name did you neve warn me about all this?" |

"Well aren't you the handful?" Gabe laughed, before grinning over at Kevin and adding, "I do not envy you. But then again, I work here. Im around hormonal, pregnant women every day." He stepped aside as Chris checked over Emma again. "So Chris what's the verdict? Any further along? '"Well you've dilated another centimeter... so it won't be long now, Emma, just hang in there. I'll get you that pain relief potion." It was amazing to Gabe to think that in no time at all, there'd be another addition to the family; he'd have another little cousin. He watched with bated breath as she had another contraction, reaching to grip her other hands. "Just take deep breaths okay. You knew it was going to hurt, you didnt need me to tell you that. You've just got to relax and keep calm. Breath and listen to what Chris tells you." He squeezed her hand. "If I could I'd be right there with you when the time comes but I can't get out of work, nor am I allowed to deliever relatives babies, so you're in Chris's very capable hands alright? But you've got Kevin. I'll see you when it's all over and then you can introduce me to my new little cousin." Gabe gave her another hug, and nodded towards Kevin, Chris and the young woman and headed out. [[Permission to GM Chris and Dea.]] |

"Would you rather I was a handful or an emotional wreck?" Emma grumbled back, before falling silent as Chris examined her. Eight centimeters? Well that was a bit better but she was anxious to get it all over with. She wanted to hold her baby and for all the discomfort and these contractions to be over with. She sighed in relief at the mention of the pain relief, glad to know that if she was being given it, it would be long now and that she wouldnt be hurting the baby. Emma gave Gabe a weak smile as he left, thinking how he'd been good to hr the last few days what with helping with the nursery anf felt almost guilting for glaring at it and getting testy. Now that the time was near, all fussying and hormones asside, she was really quite nervous about going through the actual labour. The contractions so far had got somewhat more painful and she was sure labour wasn't going to be much better. But she was determined to take Gabe's advice on board and listen carefully to to Chris. --------------- Two hours later Emma had been glad when Chris had returned an hour earlier with the pain relief potion and not a moment too soon in her opinion. Cotractions had been coming hard and fast ever five minutes and lasting longer. The potion was taking the edge off the pain but it still hurt and Emma found herself all but crying as the next contraction wracked through her, with a sudden desire to push. "OOOWW! Kevin! I think this is it..." mma winced, sitting up, taking a deep breath. "Ow! Chris, please give me some good news. I think I need to push." Chris who since giving her the potion has been hanging around the room as if expecting this, came forward to examine her. He stepped back with a small smile, heading to the side to prepare for the labour and nodding to Dea to do the same. 'Okay! Ten centimeters. You're about to have a baby.' If Emma hadn't been shifting herself into a more upright position and getting as comfortable as she could for the delivery ahead, she would have grinned, or at least sighed in relief. Instead she found herself clutching Kevin's arm tightly at another contration. "Well it's about flipping time. So I push, right?" |

Dea smiled at the woman's conversation, though making sure, at the same time, she knew where everything was in the room. It wouldn't be good at all to hold this up because she couldn't find anything, especially in something as painful as labour. When Chris told her to move to the side, she did so promptly, glad that she was wearing short sleeves. That, of course, would mean they were out of the way. Then, she waited for what to do next. Duh, you can't really read how exactly to deliver babies, its too technical. |

Emma awaited instructions, trying keep her breathing steady, while trying the need to push intensified. She looked over at the young woman who was helping Chris, Dea was it? "First deliever?" It wasnt hard to see it was. "Mine too. This'll be an experience to remeber for both of us....! Ow!That's it, I'm pushing." Gripping Kevin's hand and the side of the bed, that is exectly what she did, crying out somewhat at the pain and strain. "Are you sure the pain potion was strong enough..? Arggh!" |

"You're doing great, Emma," Chris said, doing his best to be encouraging, but he really wasn't sure how much help he was being. Well, he was trying at least. He honestly had to say that, with 5 years' experience working as a Healer, childbirth seemed to be the most painful experience he had witnessed...and he worked in emergency care, mainly. That contraction ceased, but at this point, they were coming about every thirty seconds. "Ok, push again and hold it for ten seconds," he said after that one had subsided, knowing he had to speak quickly because the next one would be along quite soon. |
