Tree furrowed his brow, a bit sheepish. "I can get you a paper and pen, but... well, I don't exactly have an owl," he said, glad that she couldn't see his face. "Not much use for one."

She sighed exasperated. "No owl? So how the heck am I supposed to owl her and tell her you're okay? That makes no sense."

Glenn finally looked at him, sharply. "No use for an owl - so do you talk to people? Keep in touch with anyone at all?"

"Well, it's not as though I got some sort of a vision that you were coming and went out and bought an owl for your express use," he snapped. "Yes, I talk to people. I just don't write letters to people, thanks very much."

He set his jaw, calming down slightly. "Coffee?" he asked gruffly, gesturing towards the now-ready pot.

She blinked. "Alright that was uncalled for," she said. "I don't want to be like this, I didn't ask to have a vision of you, I just did. And Blu was there. Okay? So please, don't judge me."

She rested her head on her arms. "Coffee would be great," she said, quietly. "And I forgot - you don't talk to people in England, do you?" She frowned. This conversation was going sour.

"No, I don't," he answered quietly, handing her a cup. "It's nice of you to be concerned about my sister and I, but I can assure you that it's a waste of your time, Glenn. You're better off... I don't know, at home, with family or your friends, or a boyfriend, or whatever."

He frowned into his coffee, thinking about England.

She shook her head at him and took the coffee, greatfully. "Look, you're not the only one with problems," she said. "I know about your ex-wife, but you can't just hide from the world. I mean, look at me. I have no boyfriend, no career. My mother is dying, my dad won't tell me what's wrong with her."

She knew he was going to say that wasn't important, that somehow he was different than her, that he had rights to wallow. Or else he'd deny it. But why else would he not talk to anyone? He was still hiding.

Tree nodded, listening to her. "I'm sorry," he said honestly when she had finished, "that you have to go through all of that. And I hope that your mother gets better. But... none of that changes the fact that I just don't need you interfering with my life," he stated simply. "It's not personal. It just is."

She shrugged. "I care about people," she said. "And when I talked to your sister I felt bad - because she has to deal with malnesdna. You just have to deal with the fact that you can't face the world."

She knew she was probably being mean but she didn't care. She just wanted him to see that it wasn't just her who could be involved with his life - there were so many people he'd probably totally lost touch with.

"No offense," she added, "But I think you don't know how to be social."

"She's done it before," Tree said quietly. "I don't care if you don't think I know how to be social. I don't want to be social anymore- that's the point. I have a serious career and a serious... life, now. I could face the world- but I don't want to."

He frowned down at the table, thinking.

"She's worse this time," Glenn said, almost before she could stop herself. Then she forced herself to take a deep breath.

"Alright, so you don't want to be social, you want to be a hermit? Tell me about your career, and serious life." She had to try to keep from snapping at him, he was being ridiculous.

"I'm an Auror," he said stiffly, not missing Glenn's comment about his sister. "With the Auror department, here in France. Yes, I keep to myself a little, but I'm happier this way. I mean, I have hobbies- I play the piano, for one. And, for another, I have a cat... who's sulking around here somewhere..."

After a moment, he spotted a black cat with white socks, curled up on his sofa. "Mimi's over there," he chuckled, gesturing to the cat.

Glenn frowned. "You're happy being alone..." she said, thoughtfully. Honestly, she didn't think that was it, she thought he just needed an excuse to be antisocial.

"Zomigosh," she exclaimed, when he pointed out the cat - her first real smile since she'd showed up, and went over to the cat. "Mimi?" she asked. "Aw, she's adorable!" Her smile turned into a sort of girlish delight that honestly didn't happen much with Glenn, and she knelt by the couch to stroke the cat.

"Pretty little thing, isn't she?" Tree asked quietly, watching Glenn almost run over to play with his cat. He loved Mimi terribly much and absolutely spoiled her- and he was pleased to see that Glenn seemed to like cats.

Glenn grinned at him - for the first time not worrying about if he was a decent person or not. "She's so sweet!" she said, nodding at him. "I love cats..."

She brushed off the feeling that she was actually a bit more comfortable around Tree now that she could humanize him.

Tree took another sip of coffee, watching Glenn play with his cat. "I have a heart," he said, matter-of-factly. "My father... hated Blu and I. I'm sure she didn't tell you that. I always tried to look after her, but I couldn't do it properly, and he got her anyways. When I was sixteen, I left home and never came back."

His face was stony and he stared at the table. "The next time I saw her, she was half dead... because he wouldn't take her to the hospital. If I had been there... she would have been okay. She would have been at the hospital in a minute, I swear... but I wasn't. And I had never felt so helpless in my life, because... I can't even..."

He drew an unsteady breath, still not looking up. "Lucky me that all I've had to deal with is my.. what did you call it? Lack of ability to socially interact?"

She listened to him talk about Blu, but she couldn't look at him. She felt bad, for having....assumed anything about him. Maybe they hadn't started off on the right foot, but she wasn't going to assume he would be one way or the other.

"I'm...really sorry," she said, quietly, still focusing on Mimi. She wasn't sure what to say. "Look, I guess...I was sort of a jerk to you. I can go now, if you want me to. Since you don't have an owl, might as well go tell Blu you're okay, she'll be waiting to hear from me..."

"Don't leave," he said after a moment, smiling briefly. "I... Mimi needs a friend."

She blinked. "Um...okay?" she said, slowly. Mimi needed a friend - right. Of course. Mimi definitely needed a friend. "I bet you dote on her," she said. "Mimi doesn't need -"

And then she stopped because that'd mean getting into why else he could have asked her to stay. And then the image of him, shirtless, answering the door had popped into her head. And she didn't want to think about that.

Tree noticed that, all of a sudden, she had a very odd look on her face- halfway between frightened and... he didn't quite know how to categorize the second expression.

"Are you alright?" he asked tentatively. "You look a bit ill..."

She shook her head. "Yeah, no, I'm fine," she said. Sitting down on the couch and pulling Mimi into her lap, she tried to smile. "Don't worry about me."

She didn't know what was wrong with her - she just felt weird. And then she blinked, and her eyes closed, and she was having another vision - it was Tree, definitely Tree. And they were in the treehouse again, and he looked upset. And then he was falling, and she couldn't tell if he'd jumped or not...

She opened her eyes with a start.
