Declan knew that Kel was having a bit of a hard time adjusting to everything, but he was glad to see that she was making a lot of progress with it all. He knew he was really excited. "Yeah, I can't wait to see him or her," he said. It probably would make the whole thing just a bit more real. While he (obviously) knew he was going to be a father, sometimes the whole thing was just so incredibly surreal. He was looking forward to the visual proof that would almost solidify it in a way. "I'm glad you're excited." He was also glad that she wanted a boy too. Although he really meant it when he said he wouldn't be disappointed if they were having a girl, he honestly didn't know how to relate to them very well. He had grown up with brothers and didn't know the first thing about little girls, let alone how to parent them. As they were talking, the Healer doing the ultrasound came in. Healer Castle overheard Kel's last question, answering with a smile, "Well, it'll start with me introducing myself. I'm Marit Castle, and I'll be your Healer today," she greeted her. "And you'll just need to take a seat on the table, and then we can get started." She glanced down at Kel's records. "So this is your first ultrasound? And you're..." She frowned slightly. "Twenty-three weeks along?" Interesting. She looked like she was much further than that. But the frown was only there for a split second before she was smiling again. "If you could just lift your shirt up, I'll get the machine ready," she said, going to turn it on. |

Kelly looked up when the Healer walked in, a bit of a nervous smile being her only greeting for the moment. "Nice to meet you." She said crisply, once the healer's name was put out there. It was a little odd for her, if only because Leslie had been the one checking her over, but her other option had been Gabe. After sleeping with the man? She wasn't comfortable with him being the person to deliver her child. It just seemed like...well she needed the boundaries away from him. So Declan had suggested this other woman, and she agreed to it. Problem was, she really didn't know anything about her. What her credentials were, what her specialty was, her response ability should something - merlin forbid - go wrong... And Kelly realized she was being overly anal in her thought process, so she rose and sat on the table, glancing at Declan when she saw the other woman's frown. Interpreting it as the fact that she was having her first ultrasound at...twenty-three weeks, Kelly just sighed, unbuttoning the bottom of her blouse when asked, tucking the fabric out of the way. "My first." She acknowledged, and the nodded, "Twenty-three weeks." |

After turning on the machine, Marit turned back to Kel. "Now, this is going to be a little bit cool," she said, taking the gel and squirting it onto Kel's stomach. "But now we can get started." She set to work finding the image of the baby, and it wasn't long before it started to see it come up on the screen. Soon the image was quite clear, clear enough for her to point it out to the soon-to-be parents. Declan was sitting by Kel while the whole process was going on, and he was looking intently at the ultrasound screen. Although maternity was definitely nowhere near his specialty, he'd still been taught to read ultrasounds when he was an Acolyte, and what he was seeing in front of him... he was shocked. He was honestly, truly shocked. "Kel...we... am I seeing what I think I'm seeing?" Marit smiled--she figured that with Declan being a Healer, he'd see it right away, but considering the fact that they hadn't figured it out at that point? Well... she hadn't known exactly. "Yes you are," she confirmed. Pointing to the screen, she addressed both of them but mainly Kel. "This right here is the head, arms, and body..." she pointed out, "...of baby number one. And over here, we've got the head here, and here's the body...there are the arms... of baby number two," she said with a grin. "Congratulations: you're having twins." |

Kelly watched curiously as the gel was spread over her stomach, relaxing as much as she could at the moment. Or, she had been, looking at the odd images on the screen like she could understand what the hell it was, when she heard Declan's fragmented question to the other healer. Then she tensed, turning her eyes away from the blob she couldn't make sense of on the screen at that point in time. "What?" She asked, her head turning back towards the screen quickly to see as Healer Castle began pointing out body parts, and slowly, she could see exactly what it was she was seeing. Baby number one. There was a sharp kind of ringing in her ears, color fading from her face as she saw exactly what Declan had just asked about, her mind comprehending the words a moment later. Baby number two. Twins? Two babies. As in two, little, completely dependent human babies that she was going to be taking care of. As in two 6-9 pound babies she was going to have to push out. As in, two mouths to feed. Two diapers to change, two cribs, two crying, screaming children. It was like her eyes were glued to the screen, looking at the two bodies that they were seeing, that were in her stomach. Two. It was a nearly clear silence in her head after that; one single word echoing again and again. It wasn't just one baby that she was going to have to have, and figure out how to take care of, and be a mom to. No, she was going full into it, taking on multiple children somehow when she didn't even know if she could handle one. However, it was true testimonial as to just how far she had come on the idea of being a mother when, though in a strained, tight voice, she asked, "What are they?" She could panick later. |

Declan was watching Kel carefully for a reaction, although she was being somewhat guarded about it. Of course, he didn't really blame her, given the fact that she was nervous about having one baby, let alone adding another. They were...having twins. It was pretty amazing, and it made sense, considering Kel herself was a twin. He took her hand and squeezed it gently, looking back at the Healer for an answer when Kel asked the genders. He was personally ecstatic and looking forward to both of them, but he knew that Kel was a little more hesitant, which he understood. "This one's a boy," she pointed to one twin. "And this one's a girl. And both are looking very good for twenty-three weeks. Very healthy," she commented. "Are there any questions I can answer for you?" |

When Declan took her hand, Kel looked back at him, repeating, "Two." It was neither a statement, nor a question. It was more of a slightly desperate 'how the hell are we going to have two babies?' Her question was answered though, and she glanced back and forth from her stomach to the screen until she could pinpoint exactly where it was she was looking. "So here..." She pointed to her lower right side. "That's the boy. And here, " A little higher, on her left side. "That's the girl?" Waiting for a confirmation, she then asked, "Do they tend to switch sides a lot? Or at this point it's pretty typical to say they'll stay in the same general area?" So they were having a set. It would have been amusing, hearing that she was kind of just continuing from her own twin thing, but at the same time? It wasn't amusing at all. It was scary as hell, and now everything she might have begun to plan, it was gone. Just, absolutely gone. Hearing that they were healthy was good, at least, meaning she hadn't really screwed up not coming in for checkups. And really, at the moment she was reeling too much from the shock of finding out that she was that big because there were multiple babies in her to be able to come up with any more questions. |

Declan nodded. "Yeah...two." In a way--ok, in lots of ways--it was really, really daunting. One baby was hard enough to take care of, but two would be even harder, especially with both of them so dedicated to their jobs. But they could figure it out: he had confidence they could. He leaned over to kiss her cheek, just a small gesture of reassurance. Marit nodded when Kel asked which was which. "That's right," she said. "They'll still be able to shift a bit, so don't get worried if you don't feel one of them moving because they'll have probably just shifted. Sometimes one will be on top of the other, or they'll be positioned in a way where you just won't be able to separate the movements," she said. "As you get closer to your due date, they'll shift positions less and less because there won't be any room." |

Kelly nodded. She'd been feeling them move, obviously. Clearly she'd just thought their baby was extremely active, but it made much more sense now two know there were two. Of course, that meant eight little extremities to hit her with, but it just made much more sense. It made sense as to why she was so bloody huge already, more than just the idea that she had a little frame and that was why she looked big. Kel liked when things made sense. She just wasn't sure if she liked this one. Hearing the words 'due date' just made her sigh. She still had seventeen weeks to go, and she alternately wanted it to be over, and at the same time, wanted it all to slow down. Declan had moved to kiss her cheek, and she closed her eyes for a moment, overwhelmed. The pregnancy hormones hadn't gone away; she'd just become pretty adapt to handling them. She just...needed a minute. Once she'd sufficiently calmed, she nodded once again. "Okay." To Declan, she asked, "Do you have any questions, then?" She had one for him, but that could wait until the appointment was over and it was just them. |

Declan didn't have any questions for the Healer, so once Marit had their ultrasound pictures printed, shut off the machine, and wiped the gel off of Kel's stomach, she excused herself to move on to her next patient, leaving Declan and Kel alone in the room. "So...twins." Declan was still pretty shocked and unsure of what to say. "How do you feel about that?" |

Kelly had sat up and was buttoning her shirt back down, watching it stretch with some kind of idle interest. What they had found out had literally just completely threw her off and she still wasn't exactly sure how to...address it. In general, just picturing herself with two kids made her want to cry herself. Logically, things would work out just fine. She could fit two cribs in the room she'd begun to clean out. She could budget for another child. Ends would meet somehow. It was emotionally, and mentally, that things weren't working out. "Overwhelmed." She said, sliding her jacket back on. "I don't know how I'm supposed to raise one baby, let alone two." These were both true, however, Kelly sat on that chair for a moment, looking at him. Obviously Declan wanted them. He'd made such clear on several occasions, and just the general excitement he had about everything proved to her that he wasn't just going to ditch her with the kids. Still, she didn't see him as much as she wanted to as their jobs had odd hours and they both had busy schedules. Finally, she just took a breath, and went for it. "I want you to move in with me." |

Declan nodded. "It is overwhelming," he said. "But we can do this. I know we can work it out." It was going to be a lot more work, that was for sure, but it was definitely not impossible. In fact, he was really actually looking forward to their kids. It was unexpected, but there were solutions to every difficulty they'd come across. And...it seemed like Kel had definitely come up with a solution of her own. "You want me to move in with you?" he echoed with a tiny smile. Honestly, it was really exciting to him to think about them all living together, and it would obviously make things loads easier. He really didn't have any sort of attachment to his apartment or living alone. "Of course I will," he replied immediately. "I think that's a really good idea; probably the best thing for us and the babies." Then they could both be there for everything and not have to worry about who had them when and the kids going back and forth between the two apartments... It sounded like the perfect idea. |

Declan was addressing her comment about being overwhelmed, reassuring her that they could do it. Kel's personality stipulated that she could put anything she wanted in her mind for it to work, and it would work. She just hadn't been able to mentally say that she could do this. Maybe when she had the nursery ready. Maybe when she had the financial set out. Maybe... However, she was actually nervous about her last statement, thoughtlessly rubbing her stomach as he repeated her question. There was a small smile on his face, and she hesitated for a split second before giving a sharp nod, the anxiety lessening in her face a little bit when he thought it was a good idea. That seriously helped a lot, knowing that he would be there when he wasn't working or otherwise busy to help her out, not dropping by when he could. So naturally, her own smile began to spread across her face. It really wasn't...just, for the babies either. She wanted to see him more too. "Really?" |

Declan nodded at her smile. "Yes, really," he said. He was glad to see she was so happy about the idea. He knew that the twins thing would obviously take some time to get used to, but clearly things were going well with their relationship, and he really wanted to keep it that way. This, he felt, would just help it to grow. They both kept their busy work schedules, so it would be really nice to come home at night and have Kel there, just to sit with her and talk about his day, her day...whatever... It would be really, really nice. He stepped closer to her, leaning in to kiss her before pulling into a hug. "I think that's the perfect next step. We should probably do that soon and then we can prepare for the babies easier." |

Kelly raised her hands to Declan's face when he leaned down to kiss her, and rose from the seat onto her feet when he pulled her into a hug. It honestly was really relieving that he was willing to move in with her. Kel had made a place for herself in the apartment she'd moved into. It was something that she'd been able to do specifically for herself, without having to please anyone else, or do anything for anyone else. She had everything where she wanted it it, everything organized and clean. She'd been thinking about asking Declan to move in with her for a while, but the problem was that she wasn't sure if he wanted to, she wasn't sure if she was ready to change that apartment to fit an entire family... It was a necessary development to, and in asking she acknowledged the idea of truly entwining him in her life. "I already completely emptied the extra room to start planning for a nursery... I can go through things this weekend and we'll just...organize as necessary until everything fits." |

Kel made it quite clear that they were moving into her place, and Declan really had no problem with that. In fact, he had pretty much expected it. Her place was bigger, and he felt absolutely no attachment to his. It wasn't that he didn't like it, but it had never been anything more than an apartment for him. "Ok, and I'll get my stuff packed and ready to move as soon as possible," he said. It was one of the things he loved about Kel: she was quick, efficient, and liked to just get things done quickly. "And I'll work on selling my apartment and all the furniture and stuff that I won't need." Wow. This was really happening. While he liked that it was happening so quickly, it was just sort of a whirlwind of information and decisions. He wouldn't call it overwhelming, necessarily, but it was definitely a lot to take in. In a good way. |

Kel was grateful he wasn't having any problem whatsoever with the moving into her own place, uprooting himself for this all to work. It also was good for her nerves to hear that he completely understood her and was easily getting into a non-elongated planning stage. She was just the kind of person that didn't like to talk about things for a long time. If something was decided, then it needed to be done as soon as logically possible. Her weekend was free; she would just work on it then. She didn't expect him to necessarily immediately move in the next day; she did understand that these kinds of things did take time. At the same time, she was kind of excited and wanted it to happen. "Whenever you have time." She told him, a high from finding out the sex of their children - such, giving her things to plan - and hearing his agreement to move in with her causing that same smile to stay on her face. "And then we'll have to go shopping for like...paint and furniture and clothes and stuff for them." She probably would probably have to ask Sam what was all needed but...it was a good start. This all was a good start. Things were starting to fall into place and that made things so, so much more easy to accept. |

Declan knew they didn't need to really rush things right then, but the honest truth was that he just wanted to get it all done quickly. He was excited about all of this, and the sooner he got moved in, the sooner they could start planning more of the things for the babies, like the nursery and shopping for the clothes and getting everything they needed... It seemed like there was so much to do. He knew they could get it done, but they'd need to work kind of hard. "This week probably shouldn't be an extremely busy one for me at work," he said. "So I'll most likely be around nights, and I can probably get a fair amount done." He grinned when Kel mentioned shopping. Normally it wasn't his thing...at all. But this was a little different when it came to preparing for their children. "I can't wait." |

Kelly looked up at him and nodded again, happy to hear him just on board and excited about the concept as she. In hindsight, she was wondering why she'd been so nervous asking him to. Yes, it was a step in a relationship that was pretty big, but they had to be some kind of exception. They were doing things really, really backwards, having babies before their relationship had gotten to that point. "Okay." She concluded, out of things to plan out and be ready for. Instead, she just stepped up and hugged him again, staying in that place of just simple comfort for a moment before she quietly asked, "Do you really, truly, honestly think we can do this?" She knew he was excited about it, but babies were a huge deal. Just... a really, huge deal, and it wasn't some fairytale thing where everything was going to be simple and easy. Maybe she was focusing on just all the work, but she figured it was a realistic view. It was better into it thinking things were going to be hard than thinking it was going to be easy and then being completely unprepared, right? |

When Kel hugged him, Declan just held her there. He knew they'd been in that room for a while, but no one had come in to tell them they needed it, so he figured they were all right. Besides, he was glad they were having this conversation now. It was a good step in the right direction for everything. He didn't have to hesitate in answering her question, his voice low, calm and sure. "I know we can do this," he said. "It may not be traditional, and it's going to be difficult, particularly with twins, but we can definitely do this. Between the two of us, we most certainly have the drive, determination, planning skills...all of that. But most importantly? We want to do this, and you know that old expression, 'Where there's a will, there's a way.'" |

Kelly just closed her eyes and rested her face against his chest as she waited for his answer, all and all just waiting for that shaky, unsteady feeling to go away. She'd made it this far. She'd gone twenty weeks already past her "record" and everything was healthy, the healer specifically said so. And they did know the sexes so she could plan and they were getting the little boy they had admitted they'd wanted if they had to pick a sex, and then the little girl was just a bonus, right? And... maybe once they were born it'd become an instinct thing. Where she would just know what to do. Otherwise she was a fast learner, right? His words calmed her a little more - she didn't want to go back to work a bundle of nerves - but when he said that when there was a will, there was a way? She smiled a little bit. It was a saying to live by, definitely. Applying it to that situation was a really, good idea. The little engine that could, even. I think I can I think I can... Eventually she nodded and stepped back, quickly wiping her eyes as she noted, "We're probably holding up the room." |
