Merlin she was just a whirpool of emotions right at that moment and she hated it. Emotions just never worked out for her and quite sincerely a part of her would be quite content with just getting the hell out of this hell hole and curling up in her bed with a big jar of peanut butter, a spoon, and a bag of pretzels. She was so confused and the way Shawn was treating her, with such kindness and patience, didn't help her confusion in any way; it actually only added to it. She sincerely did not understand why he was being nice to her, didn't know how to respond to it. Was it sad that she knew how to handle complete and total jerks better because that's what she had been accustomed to? Yes, it probably was a bit sad.

And for lack of a vocal response she just gave him a small smile, chuckling slightly at his wet comment even if she wasn't exactly appreciative of being reminded that her emotions were haywire right at that moment. So for right at that moment she would just refuse to think; thinking never solved any of her problems scarily enough. Her life was just so damn backwards sometimes and she really hated her hormones. Hadn't she just thanked Shawn for being here? Well now she wanted to be left alone, she wanted to go home and cry, actually no she just didn't want to do anything.

Once the door opened, her head lifted to look at it, restraining herself from glaring at the acolyte that had just entered. "So it seems," she responded to Shawn with another small smile, squeezing his hand as well. The moment of truth was soon on its way. The trick now was to not cry or throw up. . .or start yelling at the acolyte.

The acolyte smiled at them as she walked further into the room, clipboard in hand. "Good afternoon," she greeted warmly, trying to calm their obvious jitters. She looked down at the clipboard as she sat on a stool by the ultrasound machine. "So, Ms. Tudor, how are you feeling?"

Tired. anxious. uncomfortable. distressed. hungry. hormonal. emotional. nervous. "Good. The morning sickness has gone away for the most part but other than that it's just eat, work, sleep, repeat." She would really like to get to the sleep part of the day right at that moment.

The acolyte nodded her head, jotting a couple of things down and still speaking to them while looking down, "That's normal, most women feel the second trimester is the easiest. All things seem to be going smoothly," she looked up at them after she finished writing on the clipboard, "It says here that one of your reasons for the amnio is a paternity test. Would you rather do that aspect of it now magically and not have to wait?"

Amaris literally felt her heart skip a beat, her hand squeezing Shawn's just a little bit harder than before. Right now? As in they could find out right at that moment. She. . .didn't know how to feel right at that moment. All she did know however that this news would affect Shawn a lot more that it would her. At the end of the day, this was still her baby but this might not even be his baby. And he was so nice, kind, funny, amusing hot, he looked amazing wearing fedora hats. . .a part of her would actually be relieved if this wasn't his baby because no matter how much she tried to convince herself otherwise, she still thought that she was completely ruining his life. And she hated that.

She looked at Shawn almost a couple of seconds after the acolyte had asked the question, "Whatever you prefer." She let out a deep breath afterwards, a bit proud of herself for how steady her sentence had been, even if she was still a huge whirl of emotions inside.

Whatever he'd prefer? That...he wanted whatever it was Amaris wanted. On the other hand, he was aware that amnio's were done for other reasons, than just paternity. He did want to know the paternity as fast as possible, but he didn't want them to miss something, or lose a test because they had taken some sort of short cut. So he bit his lip and just said,

"Is there a way we can test paternity first and then do the test for anything else there may..be?" He didn't want there to be a problem at all. He was holding on a little harder to Amaris as he spoke, hearing the word 'paternity' come out of his mouth.

Paternity. As in, fatherhood. As in he might be one. He swallowed again.

He wasn't the only one freaking mildly though, he almost could tell that Amaris simply was by the way she sighed, and the way she held his hand tight as well. He normally would have beamed. At this point, he just wanted to be able to take her home. Whether or not he stayed was up to that test and what Amaris wanted, he supposed.

If the baby was his, he was stepping up.

If they weren't?

...He was stepping up. He'd meant what he'd said. He wanted to get to know her. He wanted their baby to be okay, or her baby whichever the case may be- which was why he'd suggested doing it that way. Whichever she preferred this time.

Breathe in, breathe out. That was the trick right then a and there, remembering how to breathe was absolutely necessary. Because then she wouldn't get oxygen into her blood and bad things could happen, very bad things. Like you know, death, and she'd rather not die at that momen- what the hell was she thinking?! Merlin, she needed to calm down. Calm. down. Breathe. In. Out. Now speak. . .speak, coherently. . .okay just speak in general? She could do that right? Apparently not since every time she tried to speak she would wind up squeezing his hand tighter. Dear Merlin.

The acolyte nodded at Shawn's request and answered, "Of course," she stood up from the stool and went to one of the cabinets and pulled out a potion," Just pull out a strand of your hair, Ms. Tudor you put yours in first, then you'll follow Mr. Graft, if the potion turns red, you're the father. If it's green, you're not." Pretty simple actually, the wonders of magic.

Amaris took in a deep breath; that would be extremely easy. Just like that, they would know. . .just like that, okay what was the catch? Silly question to ask maybe but there was always a catch right? No, well it was Mungo's, of course there wouldn't be a catch, or maybe it was because it was Mungo's that she was suspecting one- okay, calm. breathe. in. out. She pulled out one of her hairs and put it in the vial.

The acolyte watched as Amaris put the strand of hair with a slightly shaky hand, and tried to smile reassuringly, the poor thing as she watched the potion turn blue. After Shawn had done the same, the potion then turned a deep red color. She looked up from the potion to Shawn and said, "Congratulations, you're going to be a father." she smiled even though she didn't know if that was appropriate, didn't know how he felt about it, but she left it be. It wasn't her business.

The breath that Amaris had been holding in was released when the potion turned red and confirmed Shawn as the father. She felt. . .mostly relief and happiness but just the smallest bit of sadness as well; she felt bad for even making him be in the situation at all but...too late now. He wanted to be here right? And she would always be extremely thankful for that. It would be redundant to say that she was holding on to his hand tighter because any tighter and she would break his fingers.

The acolyte gave them a few moments together to adjust before she needed to get back to business. She had asked Amaris to lay back on the table and lift up her shirt while she started up the machine. She then applied the warm gel and applied the transducer against her skin, the image of the baby coming up on the screen. "There we go," muttered the acolyte as she then started pointing out the parts of the baby to them; the head, the arms, the legs, and fingers. She took quick measurements, informed them that everything was looking in perfect order.

"Would you like to know the sex of the baby?"

Wow, she was actually pregnant! There was an actual baby inside of her! She. . .well she guessed it hadn't exactly kicked in until she saw it up on the monitor and holy hell they could find out the gender of the baby? They had just found out the father of the baby, how much more news could she take that day before she passed out? Nevertheless, both her and Shawn agreed to it.

"It's a girl" the acolyte informed them warmly.

Another girl, oh my Merlin, another little girl. Okay, she was tearing up again, merlindamnit. She was. . .happy! She was so, so happy right at that moment. She couldn't believe that the world would give her another chance to have a baby, and that was just amazing. She, by no means would forget about her first daughter, quite the opposite this just cemented her resolve to find her and get her back. Amaris could almost shoot herself for not wanting the baby at the beginning, she must have been insane.

She wiped at her eyes and once again laughed at herself and her emotions, but she was just. . .so so happy right at that moment. Nevertheless, it was time for the needle now. That in turn was. . .not fun at all. Not fun at all- oww. Slight sting, but at least the acolyte hadn't missed, and she had gotten the necessary amniotic fluid sample.

"Alright, we'll take this to the lab and process it. You can pick up the lab results in a few days. Have a good day, and congratulations again." the acolyte smiled at them one more time before she walked out.

And Amaris was still really really happy. She couldn't help it, she squealed a bit and pulled Shawn in to a huge hug. The only thing she was able to say right at that moment was "Oh my Merlin," over and over and over again.

The potion turned a deep red, and Shawn's face went perfectly still. He was waiting for a freak out. A freak out from himself where he admitted that he'd never wanted to be a father and that this wasn't a 'congratulations moment' and where he turned into a right moron and walked out that door and never came back. Or a freak-out on his lack of commitment ability and how she'd probably end up failing to trust him. Or freak out in general. Maybe just scream.

Except it didn't happen. Instead, he was thinking oddly enough, of his sisters playing with dolls one day. They had been so loving and attentive to these plastic children and he hadn't understood it then.

He understood it now.

He wasn't breathing entirely properly now, his mind whirling on a fast track, and a strange sense over took him; it was a mixture of shock and determination, as well as certainty. He liked knowing. There was no doubt about that; he would always choose to know, rather than be unsure.

The Acolyte was congratulating him and he offered a nod in response, still too mind blown to think about exactly what he was doing. He wasn't even aware that she was basically breaking his hand, moving to the side nodding and blinking along while she set up...something. It was...odd. All of the equipment just...wasn't it kind of cold? Uncomfortable? He squeezed her hand back, his other hand going to her shoulder. Holding on? A little bit.

Then the screen in front of them flickered on and his eyes flew wide open as a tremor of excitement and awe, an oddly fluffy and warm feeling, overtook him now. There was a head...and arms...

He hadn't even noticed that he'd crouched down a little closer to her, squeezing her shoulder, a truly wide, and happy grin crossing his lips. That was incredible. Their baby...everything was so..little! And adorable. And dear merlin, if he was to say anything in his head out loud right now he was going to completely emasculate himself. Words like 'cute' and 'fluffy' were suddenly a part of his vernacular.

So he kept his mouth shut. He wouldn't really have been able to speak anyways, the one word that slipped out was a quiet, happy, squeak of, "A girl?" He echoed the acolyte. A girl! He was going to have a daughter.

Amaris was tearing up, while he just seemed to beam wider, brighter. Shawn waited (and held her hand) through the final procedure. When the acolyte left and Amaris released him to spin around squealing, he stared at his hand in wonder. Huh. That was going to cramp. Then he smiled again as her arms went around him and he lifted her up spinning around in a circle. The shock hadn't entirely worn off, but it had ebbed in honor of his sudden flow of absolute and complete happiness.

Well, and being absolutely terrified, but that was normal right?

"We're having a daughter!" He said it excitedly, hugging her back and then setting her down on the floor, trying to think this through. ....Screw thinking. His arms were still around her neck, and hers were still on his waist when he brought them together in a soft, sudden kiss and pulled back again.

"I think." He said smiling. "This calls for celebration. I want ... to take you out to eat, but maybe, a little ... after?" He summarized that very briefly, smirking.

He was going to have a daughter.

Amaris had, under all her underlying happiness over the situation, been nervous about Shawn's response to being the father. She knew that most men would probably choose to run away. In the beginning she also wanted to run away and she was supposed to be the mother and always want to take care of her baby and what-not. Well, it turned out that that particularly motherly effect wouldn't show up until a few months later. In this hospital room, while looking at a picture of her little girl. A girl. . .oh my Merlin a girl!

Even still, she felt the edge and stress ebb away for some reason. Shawn hadn't immediately walked out of the room so that was a definite plus. And the excited exclamation? Brought a new wave of tears to her eyes, at least she hadn't stopped so it wouldn't be that noticeable. She wiped at them again immediately, wondering whether or not she would ever stop crying. Damn hormones, they were going to be the death of her.

When she hugged him, she didn't even think about giving him space to calm down or anything. Well, she did, a couple of seconds after she had already done so. Instead of pushing her away like she thought he would, he picked her up and spun her around, eliciting another small squeal out of her before she started laughing delightedly. Like she said, hormones were getting the best of her right at that moment. She. . .wow, she never thought she would be this happy about a baby, a little girl! She didn't have to call her a it anymore (which she avoided anyway).

When he set her down she just couldn't stop grinning, and nodded enthusiastically, completely devoid of words at that moment in time. She was still grinning as she kissed him back a little bit, the kiss ending a bit too soon for her liking.

At the mention of celebration. . .well, that was simply. . .yum. "You read my mind," she replied with a little smirk of her own before pulling his face down to her to kiss him again briefly before saying, "What are we waiting for? Let's go."

They left. . .in quite a hurry actually.

To say that Kel didn't want to be there was an understatement. She had basically held off for as long as she could, but she couldn't avoid it any longer. She had even taken a muggle test that morning, and now she just needed a professional opinion.

And she needed to know her options.

So Kel had come in, carefully making sure neither Declan nor her brother was around, and soon she was escorted into a room, her request for healer put in. The paper work was done, so all she had to do was wait, nervously going through some of the files she brought with her to work on.

Leslie came down the stairs and stopped at the nurses station, grabbing the file they had started and she took a peek at the name. Kelly Daniels... on the maternity ward looking for her....

She walked down the hall and entered the room and sat down at the desk in the room. "Well this is a surprise. Hello." She smiled warmly. Wheeling her chair about, she grabbed a pregnancy potion and the blood pressure cuff. "So you think you're pregnant, drink this, we'll wait and I will check your heart and blood pressure." She said, handing the vial to Kelly and took her stethoscope from around her neck.

Kel bit her lip hard when Leslie came in, but she was a little surprised at the simplicity. There wasn't any surprise, or joke, or anything of the like. She just got right down to business, and Kel didn't know if she was grateful for that or not.

"...hello." She took the potion and looked at it for a moment. She didn't tend to shy away from things, but this was...this was an unbelievably big deal. Maybe she just had the flu? It was that season, after all.

With that thought, Kel uncorked it and drank it, crinkling her nose at the taste, but otherwise not commenting, pulling off her coat so Leslie could get an accurate reading on her blood pressure.

"I was on the potion." Kel told her, quietly. She was still pale, worried.

She listened to Kelly for a moment when she said she was on the potion. "Well what kinds of symptoms have you been having? Fatigue? Frequent urination? Nausea? Leg cramping?" She asked, naming some of the symptoms she had, but she knew very well that every pregnancy was different.

"Well if you were on the Potion, it is rather unlikely that you are pregnant, but we'll do the test anyways. Come sit up on the table." She nodded over to the table and hooked up the cuff.

"Nausea, most strongly. I've also been extremely dizzy and I thought that...maybe that was left over from the head wound and the anemia? But I've had strong adversions to food I usually love and it's gotten to the point where I basically can only drink light teas on a bad day."

Hearing that because she was on the potion, it was unlikely she was pregnant would have relaxed her a little bit, had she not broken down and used an at-home revealer that morning; "I took one of the muggle tests though. It said I was positive and I just...needed to have it confirmed. And hear what my options are."

Kel sat on the table as Leslie asked, and then just waited.

Leslie put the blood pressure cuff on Kelly and slipped the stethoscope under and began to pump. "Well its highly unlikely that after a month that's the case, but we can do a blood test to check your iron levels. And as far as the muggle tests go, their accuracy leaves something to be desired. I took one after I knew I was pregnant, you know, just for the experience and it came out negative. There's always a chance with muggle tests its wrong. Unlike our tests." She said frowning when she saw Kelly's high blood pressure.

She wrote it down in Kelly's file. "I think you need to really, really take it easy, Kelly. Your blood pressure is in the mild hypertension stage. its about 140 over 90. The BP we reccomend is 115 over 75. If you ARE pregnant, this could mean preeclampsia, which is very bad and means bed rest. As is, I won't be letting you out of here without a prescreiption for a potion to fix that. Once a week and you should be okay." She told her firmly, leaving little room for argument.

Checking Kelly's pulse to find it slightly elevated, which Leslie took note of as well, she finally got around to waving her wand at Kelly's stomach and seeing it turn red. "Well, you are pregnant. I can assure you, you can go off the potion so you don't hurt the baby." She told her, watching her reaction.

Kelly nodded, glad Leslie was explaining things to her so that she would understand as well. She didn't like the idea of a blood test, but if she wasn't pregnant and that was the case, she could handle it. And she was definitely glad that Leslie told her that she was pregnant and took a test that ended up negative. That did actually relieve her a little bit. Because that meant it could be wrong and just some bad after-effects of the whole Switched deal were all she had to deal with.

Hearing that her blood pressure was a little high didn't faze her all that much. She had a high-stress job and a very controlled schedule. Still, hearing the whole 'bedrest' and potions didn't make her any happier about the situation. She didn't even take midol when she had cramps, for merlinssakes.

That was the other thing; Kel's period was on as strict of a schedule as the rest of her life. She hadn't had it on time, but again, she blamed that on the stress her gody just went through.

But then, it all fell through.

"Well, you are pregnant."

Anything said after that was just lost in the translation, ears ringing sharply. There was a huge difference in looking at a piece of plastic telling you that you were pregnant and hearing someone professional actually tell you.

She was quiet though, taking a long time to compose herself, but when she finally spoke her voice was still shaky, "If I...don't want to keep...if I'm not ready for a baby what else can I do?"

Moving to sit in her chair again, Leslie gestured to Kelly that she could sit back in the chair. She took her time, letting it all settle in for a moment. "Kel, there are only every three options when it comes to pregnancy. You can: a) keep the baby and make the best of the situation; b) terminate the pregnancy; and c) keep the baby, but adopt it out. And I can safely assure you that the hospital has resources available to help you which ever choice you make. I just ask that you speak the Declan about it." She said sitting back, but watching Kelly closely.

Giving Kelly a moment, taking this slowly she sighed. "If you keep it, I must urge you to take it easy with work, and you need to take it easy with the cleaning because the chemicals aren't good for the foetus. And one thing you absolutely cannot do is clean the litter box, and no, it has nothing to do with your eventual mobility, its that you can get toxoplasmosis and that's bad for the baby as it is a parasite." She warned heavily.

Kelly took a minute to get off the table, unsure that her legs would hold her at the moment. They did hold though, and so instead of sitting again, she just leaned against the bed, trying to make herself breath.

In, and out.

Her options were to become a mother, a murderer, or go through a pregnancy and get rid of the kid at the end.

Great.

When Leslie mentioned Declan though? Being in control didn't seem to be as possible any more. She stood throughout Leslie's speech about not cleaning - oh please, like she could not do that - and the litterbox? That was basically necessary. But she was barely reacting to that, shaking her head.

"I need to...think about this."
She got out, rubbing her face. "I'll...I'll be back at some point with my decision. Thanks a lot, Leslie."

And then she basically bolted out of the room before her emotions started showing through.

Becoming pregnant was a huge thing. This wasn't like getting a new hair colour, this decision that Kelly and Declan had to make was one that was life changing. And knowing Kelly was not a baby person, that made the whole decision harder to make. When it came time for her to make the decision, Leslie made it no problem. She knew she wanted her baby even if Gabe didn't, and he did. They had Maddie now.

Was she surprised when Kelly ran out overwhelmed by the information? No. So Leslie wrote down the rest of the information in her chart, about the nausea and aversion to food, then wrote out that she was pregnant. What she didn't write was that the father was potentially Declan. But by Kelly's reaction he probably was. She just knew it was safer putting the bare minimum for details in the file in case Chris got curious and decided to go against ethics and hospital policy.

Finally getting up, Leslie left the exam room and went to the nurses station to fill out the last of the paper work on Kelly's appointment, and relaxed for a moment. She had only a few appointments today so she could take the time.

Leslie opened up the door and stepped back to let Lara in. Stepping across the hall she got Lara a blanket and a hospital gown. "Change into that, hop onto the table, use the blanket to cover your lower half and I will be right back." She informed her, warmly.

Coming back about ten minutes later, Leslie let herself into the room with a knock. Giving Lara a moment she looked at her a little sadly. "I know its not my place, hun, but I noticed that there is some tension between you and Will." She told her, slightly concerned for her sister-in-law.

Grabbing the bottle of gel, Leslie put some on her stomach and taking her hand. This was a big moment. She did it on her own for the first scan, she was just glad that she was here for Lara even if her mother couldn't be. "So tell me a few things, how far along do you think you are? And it says that you night be miscarrying, what symptomsare you having? After we do the scan, I'll get the dopplar on you." it was idle Healer chatter. Things she needed to know and what not.

She placed the ultrasound wand on her stomach and searched around a little until she found it, a black mass (her uterus) and the baby inside. It was small, but moving wildly. "Well there's your baby, and good news, you didn't miscarry. You probably just had some cramps, you'll get those once in a while." She said with a smile, holding the image so Lara could watch.

Lara was silent on the trip up to the Maternity ward, worried what Leslie might say, if she'd be angry or ashamed of her. But all she did was guide Lara into one of the rooms and hand her a blanket and gown. She took them and nodded a small thanks, noting the warm tone of voice Leslie spoke to her in. She set to work changing into the gown and climbed slowly up onto the bed, draping the blanket across her.

It wasn't long before Leslie rejoined her, her expression one that made Lara feel all the more ashamed over her young pregnancy. She jumped right to the chase, asking Lara about her and Will and Lara couldn't help it. Her eyes filled up instantly. "There is no me and Will anymore," Her shoulders shook. "He left me last week. He doesn't want this baby. Wanted me to abort it or but it up for adoption but I couldn't." She sniffed. "And now we were just kidnapped and went though hell. We were separated from the start and he was shot by someone looking like me. He believed it was me. Yelled at me when I saw him. Wouldn't believe me!" Her cheeks were now wet.

Lara continued to sob, hiccuping as the cold gel was placed on her stomach and squeezing Leslie's hand when her stomach twinged. Her first scan. And while she was hurt by Will and still mad at him, she still wished he was here with her. She let out another sob. "Just about three months..," Lara muttered. "I'm on the pill have been for several month so we weren't always careful about extra protection.." She wished they had been now.

"M..mm..miscarry?" Lara stammered, pale. She'd not really been paying musch attention to what Will had said to the receptionist, nor had she really stopped to think what the cramps could possibly be. "Cramps." She gave the one words answer before adding, "A sore tugging. This evening has been hell. Ive been told if I didnt paly a game Will would be harmed. Ive seen a woman stabbed with knives right beside me, had Will yelling accussations at me, saw twenty four bodies, a duplicate of mine, dropped into water filled tanks and drown and been in a burning building..."

She watched Leslie's wand, trained on her stomach curious, anxious and then there is was. Her baby. Her little son or daughter. Lara watched the image mesmerised, crying again, hand squeezing Leslie's. Her baby was safe, She nodded at Leslie's words. "My baby...Is that... is that the head? And the heart," she lifted her free hand off her stomach to point."Could I... Can I maybe have a copy?"

Not getting as alarmed as she wold have been if Lara had been a regular patient, but she was pregnant and hormonal. "Awww, Lara, its okay... I know it sucks, but Will is going to come around, and if he doesn't he's stupid.

But I can't imagine what it is like for him. Trying to get a career, and all that. Don't get me wrong, I am not excusing him, but he got spooked. Hell, I look at Maddie some days and wonder how we cope." She told Lara, trying to calm her down.

As she listened to Lara go on about her symptoms, she turned away to the screen and started making pictures for Lara. "Hun, you just need to go home and get some rest. I'll send you with a sleeping potion, you just need to hang out for a couple hours with an oxygen mask on, then you can go." She informed Lara then pulled the station closer to show Lara and moved the wand to et a better side profile. "This here is the head, and see, you can see little arms and legs, and right now its still got a tail." She pointed out on the screen and froze that image too.

All together, leslie printed up almost a dozen pictures for Lara.

Lara couldn't hope to be able to control the waterworks, not with her hormones awry. "I just... I still love him. I just want us to be a family." She'd tried to picture it enough times. "He's scared he'll make a bad father but he's the one out of the two of us with experience with kids. I don't know what Im doing!" She wiped her eyes. It didnt mean she didnt understand his reasoning but she was scared too, she still wanted a job and a place of her own. Why couldnt they work together?

As Leslie gave her her instructions Lara nodded. "Rest. That I can do." Lara was exhausted partly due to the pregnancy and partky because she'd barely slet a wink since Will broke up with her. The sleeping potion should help. She didnt complain about having to stay on. She could take a nap.

Lara settled down on the bed, relaxing into the pillows. Her gaze was locked on the image of her baby. Awed, some tears of happiness. "Theyre beautiful." She hadnt realised they'd have arms and legs by now but they did and they were so tiny. Lara took the printed pictures moving from one to the other hypnotised. "So... an oygen mask?"[//b] Then she thought to add, "Do you know how Will is?"

Leslie wiped off Lara's stomach then took her hand and gave it another squeeze. "Every girl hopes that, just sometimes it doesn't work that way." She offered sympathetically. When Lara asked how Will was, she shook her head. "I don't know, I think though that Carter will have moved him by now. Either discharge him, or keep him for observation. Go ask in the lobby, and then also tell them you need an oxygen mask for smoke inhalation." Leslie suggested and moved the station back to where it was, cleaning up her little mess.

"Congrats Lara, and if you need, Gabe and I have the couch. I know its not much, but its something." Was her offer and she stood up stretching. "Yay, home time soon!"
