The Italian Auror Headquarters: It's very different from England's HQ. It's like a mid-sized office building. The building is a rather old one, as most buildings in Rome are. Inside, there's a lobby and reception area. Then one passes through the door to the actual office building, where on the first floor is a large common room. It's not nearly as comfortable-looking as England's though, with one couch, and a bunch of bookshelves and desks. Upstairs there are two floors of individual offices. ---------------------------- Llian entered the common room after flashing his Auror badge to the receptionist and a magical scanner let him in, validating the ID. He filed the papers in the appropriate spot and chatted with the Head Auror in the Italian that was slowly coming back to him before turning to go up to his office. Before he did, though, he spotted someone he hadn't seen in quite some time. Since Hogwarts, actually. Approaching the woman, he asked, "Alora? Is that you?" |

Alora nearly dropped the file she was holding, as she glanced up and saw Llian Eppes standing in front of her. She hadn't expected to see him any time soon, and she hadn't expected him to approach her if they had been in the same room. Well that was certainly interesting. "Llian!" she said, putting on a smile. She wasn't going to let a lack of confidence get in her way like she had at school, there was nothing to keep her from being herself here, in the world - or, not as much. "Wow...what's it been, forever? How are you?" |

Llian smiled. "Yeah, it's been a pretty long time. I didn't know you went on to be an Auror," he said. "And in Italy too...what are the chances?" At her question, he shrugged a little and said, "Truthfully? I've been better." But he shrugged it off. He didn't want to think about Mere right then. He was trying his hardest to move on. "But I decided to come back to Italy for a little while, just to help out." "So how have you been?" he returned the question. |

She nodded, trying to come up with something to say that didn't sound stupid. She was an Auror, she was smart, she had a career - and he still made her tongue-tied. Shaking off the feeling, she said, "Yeah...well, I guess some things are funny that way," she said, finally. "Haven't been here that long, I was in Spain before, most of my career's been there actually - but I got started in Egypt." She realized that might be considered rambling, and changed her subject - "You've been better - something wrong?" she asked, not sure if it was something he wanted to talk about but not planning on prying any deeper if he didn't want to. "And it's just...wow, it's so great to run into you." |

"You know, I never took you for the traveling type," Llian remarked, rather impressed with the list of places she'd been. "You know, I actually think we were in the same places, but at different times," he said. "I took some time to travel, then worked as a cursebreaker in Egypt, then some more traveling, then got trained as an Auror in Italy, then went to Spain for a little." He stopped talking about his travels: he didn't want to bore her, after all. "I wonder why we never ran into each other...funny how life works like that." He paused a little before answer her question about what was wrong. "Well, my girlfriend passed away recently," he finally answered. Not wanting to dwell on it, he quickly moved on. "But yeah, it was definitely great to run into you." An idea suddenly striking him, he said, "You know, we should have lunch or dinner or something sometime. We could catch up, enjoy a night out, stuff like that." |

Alora gave him a sort of half-dazed smile, and nodded. "Dinner...would be nice," she said. But then she processed the other information and immediately felt bad. "I mean, I wouldn't want to intrude - I'm so sorry about...your girlfriend," she said. Still. Still she wasn't comfortable using that word in relationship to Llian. It didn't make sense, and it didn't seem fair. This was like, major deja vu - not that his girlfriend was dead but that he had a girlfriend. And that that girlfriend, once again, was not Alora. She hated herself for thinking that - how could she even think something like that, when Llian had lost someone who obviously meant a lot to him? It was awful of her, and she couldn't keep that mindset. She wasn't going to try to do anything - she'd let him have his space. Because he was upset. And he deserved space if he needed it. She gave a slight, confused shrug. "Life's...strange like that sometimes," she said, more in response to his other questions, but realizing that it could apply to his girlfriend's death also. She decided they'd probably better not have dinner together, she'd feel too guilty. |

Llian smiled widely as she accepted his dinner offer. It would be good for him to get out of the house, away from Headquarters and not think about Meredith for a night. "Brilliant...so dinner, then. It'll be nice to get out," he said. "And don't worry about intruding," he added. "I think I rather need to get out. I mean, it'll be a nice change." Again, figuring he'd change the subject and take the conversation away from a socially awkward subject, he asked, "So what about you? Any boyfriends to speak of?" |

So he didn't mind going out to dinner with her. He wanted to. That was...such a nice change from school days, where he was always too busy, too...something. And she'd just never done anything. So now...she had to try not to feel like a criminal, because if he wanted to move on then she should let him move on...but still. It almost didn't seem right, like somehow the woman before her still held his heart. "Alright," she said, "We'll do that." Recognizing his desire to change the subject, she shook her head - and realized just how pathetic her romantic life sounded. "I've really been...focusing on work," she began, "I mean, I've dated a few guys, nothing really serious - not..." She couldn't say that she still liked him, because that just sounded weird. So she trailed off and said, "Why?" |

Llian shrugged. Why did he want to know? He had no idea. "You sound like my sister," he laughed. "Very work-oriented, but she's getting married now, and I'm sure you'll find someone who catches your eye." Deciding that maybe this was a little bit too awkward for a conversation between old acquaintances, he said, "So when would you like to have dinner?" |

"Then you can tell her I said congratulations," she said, smiling, and brushing right over his comment. She knew who caught her eye. She didn't expect anything - he was probably in no state to date anyone. "Uh...dinner...well, whenever you have time, I'm sure it'll work for me," she said, laughing slightly. "I don't have that much going on." |

"Sounds good to me," Llian replied with a smile. He had gone there to see the Head Auror, but he found himself stalling slightly before going upstairs to Benitti's office. "So what case are you currently working on?" he asked. He knew England's HQ was completely focused on the Death Eaters and Voldemort, and he was wondering just what the Italian Headquarters was doing with Voldemort being a less direct threat. |

"Well actually - I know it sounds ridiculous because you English are always in the middle of something, but it's been kind of quiet around here. Mostly it's making sure things stay quiet..." She had all sorts of questions to ask him, about his life and about how he was, what his work was like, just questions. But they could be saved for another time, because right now she was at more than a slight loss for words. "I'm sure you're...very busy, and you have a lot on your mind." |

Llian smiled at her mention of things being quiet around there. It was all coming back to him, and he rather enjoyed it. "It's actually a nice change not to have to worry about Death Eaters all the time." He shrugged and said. "I'm just trying to find my sister. You haven't seen Gianna Silverhawk lately, have you?" he asked hopefully. The answer was probably 'no', but it probably couldn't hurt to ask. Benitti wouldn't say a word, so he was stuck pushing papers until he could get some sort of information. What sort of mission could she possibly be on? |

Alora stopped - "Gia? Yeah - well, no I haven't seen her recently - but I know her...she's been doing some work..." She shrugged - there wasn't much she could offer by way of information. "I'm sorry I can't be more helpful," she added, regretfully. She was curious about his life - and what had been going on - but she knew it would be rude to ask. So she limited herself to a brief, "Hey - you been doing okay? Like, I know about your girlfriend - but..." she trailed off. That'd sounded weird. But there was no taking it back. |

Llian sighed: another dead end when it came to Gia. "Don't worry about it. I mean, I expected as much. No one has any information for me." He again turned his thoughts briefly to what Gia could have been doing that was so important and had to be kept so secret. But as she spoke again, he smiled appreciatively at Alora, grateful at how considerate she was being when it came to Meredith. "I honestly haven't been too bad. I'm actually pretty happy to be back in Italy. I was getting restless for a change of scenery," he admitted. Even before Meredith... it happened .... he'd been growing sort of anxious to leave. Traveling for him was as natural as breathing, and he hated being tied down by anything. He liked knowing that, if he wanted to, he could just walk out the door and head somewhere else for a month, six months, a year... playing things by ear was the best way to go. |

4, 3, 2, 1, I am letting you go.

A letter flew into the headquarters, landing next to Llian. Meredith hadn't expected the letter to end up anywhere, but she'd sent it anyway, because she wasn't really thinking. And so, the owl had carried it to him, because of course he was alive.

"Traveling...you always liked that. Doesn't it ever...get in the way?" She wasn't sure why she asked him that. And when the owl flew through the window, she stopped - "What is it?" she asked him, curiously. |

"No, it's actually a nice way to get away from everything. It's the other things that get in the way," he laughed. Seeing the owl fly in, Llian picked up the letter that landed next to him, a small pang shooting through him as he instantly recognized the handwriting as Meredith's. Someone - Lynx perhaps? - had thought to send him this letter, obviously written right before she died. And he hadn't been there for her. She must have been so upset and scared...and he hadn't been there. He'd left her when she needed him most. How could he have done that? After reading the letter, he folded it carefully and put it in the pocket of his robes. It was hard not to feel incredibly guilty. And yet, was it some sort of sign that the letter had appeared just now as Llian was talking to Alora? No...it couldn't be. Unless, somehow, Meredith was watching over him. Strange. Something to contemplate for later, but he surprisingly found that contemplating his views on death and the logistics of it seemed to calm him...and it didn't hurt quite as much. |

Alora saw the change in his expression, and wondered what the letter could be about. She didn't want to pry, and she didn't want to be nosy - so she didn't try to read it, and as she watched him fold it up and put it away, she repeated her question, very gently. "What was that?" |

Llian glanced up at Alora. "It's...well, someone decided they'd send along my girlfriend's last note to me," he said quietly. "Rather ill timing, though," he added after a slight pause, sounding as if it hadn't happened. He'd think about it later. Right now...he just didn't want to even think about what was in his pocket. "Anyways, where were we?" |
