Calvin moved back a bit, but he was still sort of...leaning over her. The whole day was quiet, and warm, and he was just...happy. To be with her.

And then she asked him to kiss her. And he was very, very quiet, watching her for a long moment. Kiss her - suddenly, kissing her seemed like...more than just a peck on the cheek, or a quick kiss on the lips.

He leaned down, slipping his arms around her shoulders. With his lips a fraction of an inch away from hers, he said, "Okay," and he kissed her - pressing his lips against hers and staying there, deepening it - it was totally different than any kiss he'd ever experienced. It was...well he felt corny saying it but it was definitely grown up.

With Cal sitting the way he was, she was able to completely move her arms away from her face, and she leaned up on her elbows, watching him. Maybe it was just curiousity; everything else was changing, why wouldn't that too?

As the silence stretched on, she looked back down, and laughed quietly, embarrassed. "Nevermind, I'm just, its just..." she started to fill the quiet air, but then he was moving, and she almost gasped when he kissed her. Where as maybe before was just to make her laugh, and cheer her up every once in a while, not really meaning anything serious or such, this feeling completely shocked her, and she, as he was holding her, stopped supporting herself and wrapped her arms around his neck, laying back down on the ground.

It almost felt like a heart attack, the way her face was so hot, and her heart was beating so fast, yet she wasn't breathing. It was so different, and so addicting, and she pulled back for a moment, her expression completely startled as she stared at him.

When she said different, that was not what she was expecting, not at all, and she kept her hands tightly linked behind his neck.

"Is it supposed to be like that?" she asked, a little raggedly, before reaching back up to capture his lips again.

He kept kissing her, moving her so that they were facing each other, side by side. When she pulled away, he found that he was a bit dizzy from the whole thing.

Nodding ever so slightly, he said, softly, "I think so."

Then, he kissed her back again, and let his hand wander up to run through her hair. This was so different, and so new, and so....everything that was happy. He felt on top of the world, and ridiculously happy.

Keeley’s mind was running twenty million miles per hour, smiling as she was moved, as his hands tangled in her hair, acutely feeling his hand on her waist, tightening her own around his neck before running them over his now-broad back, and she just started laughing. Just randomly, and kissed his dimples, before – using the fact she was linked to him – to fall backwards, pulling them both into the lake.

She squealed at the cold water, and swam under the rock, sitting under the ledge on an underwater one, and grinned cheekily at him.

“Well, I was getting rather warm…” she explained, except for, that wasn’t the whole truth. She honestly felt like she was going to explode or something, the feeling so strange to her. She didn’t get it, and it wasn’t like she didn’t get it, but she was a lot startled by it. Her feelings confused her, and when things confuse her, usually she could just as Cal about them. Yet, for some reason, she was slightly shy about doing that, because it felt like he was a little confused too. Of course, after she sat in the water, away from the sun for a moment, she kind of regretted stopping the whatever-they-were-doing, and she blinked water away from her eyes; it was streaming down from her sopping hair.

“Be careful, the wormies might get you…” she teased.

Cal just smiled at her, but then his eyes widened as she pulled him into the lake - he laughed, splashing her. He figured...maybe she just hadn't wanted to keep it up? And so he was okay with that, because it wasn't like either of them were used to kissing...not like that, anyway.

"It's okay," he said. "And don't worry, I'll make sure I watch out for -"

But an idea had popped into his head, and he held his breath, and ducked underwater so she couldn't see him anymore. He had a pretty good lung capacity and stayed there, hidden, waiting for her reaction.

Keeley grinned and ducked as she was aimed at, laughing at his very-wet self. She watched him as he talked, moving her hands lightly among the surface of the lake, watching for fish and such, and heard a splash, Cal’s sentence cut off, and waited. Maybe he just took a quick dip, maybe he stopped floating coz his arms were tired, there were maybes running through her head as the moment stretched, and she started to panic.

“Cal! Calvin! Omimerlin, you better just be swimming…” Her eyes wide and her breath short, she launched herself off the ledge she was sitting on, and began swimming around.

“Cal!” her voice was high pitched in fear. Where had he gone?! She dove underwater, but it was too murky for her to see anything, and she broke the surface again, tears running down her face she was so terrified. He hadn’t come up, and she didn’t know how long he’d been somewhere, and she kept on turning around in circles, hoping to see a head, or a hand, or something, somewhere, but there was nothing.

Absolutely...nothing...

Calvin waited until he couldn't stand it any longer and burst to the surface, taking a huge breath. "Keels," he said, after he could speak, "I'm fine, I'm right -"

But then he stopped when he saw her face. She was crying, she looked like she was scared to death. And it was because of him. "Keels...Keels, I'm fine, I'm safe, I'm right here..." He swam up beside her and slipped his arms around her, cradling her and bringing her in to where it was shallow enough that they could stand. "I'm sorry...I'm so, so sorry I scared you...."

Keels whipped around as she heard another splash, and as she saw Cal, it was like, huge. There wasn’t any more weight on her chest, on her lungs, and she started to breathe again, running her hand over her face. He was just playing with her. And she gave a wet laugh, for she had totally deserved that.

She didn’t hear him swimming, but would have jumped if she had been able to stand when she felt his arms wrap around her again, and she smacked his shoulder as hard as she could gently, without making him let go of her, and she pursed her lips at him, though insanely relived and happy about him being perfectly okay, moving every time he took a breath, up and down.

“You do that again, and I will kill you.” She told him seriously, before a smile spread over her face, and she kissed his cheek, not more than a butterfly’s brushing, to show she was semi-kidding. She wouldn’t kill him, per se…

He smiled once he saw that she wasn't totally scared anymore, and kept his arms around her because he didn't want to let her go - and because it felt...natural, to keep right next to her always.

"Aw, don't kill me," he said, kissing her nose. "I promise I'll never, ever do it again, kay?" He shrugged, and then he started thinking - when they'd said 'I love you' to each other before... it'd been different. Now...he still felt the same way he had, just a lot...more. And he knew he would have been twice as scared if he'd thought something had happened to her.

"I love you..."

Keeley huffed at him, crossing her arms tightly over her chest, even though there wasn’t a lot of room to do so anyways. She pretended to be unchanged by him kissing her nose, even though she completely melted, and she stuck said body part in the air.

“Promise? Promise on the butterfly then.” She crinkled her nose and stuck her tongue out at him, surprised at how easily she could keep this up, even though he was holding her (which wasn’t helping), although she kind of…paused, became less stiff, as he said ‘I love you.”

Why did it sound different? She just accepted it as another one of those differences, and her gaze softened quite a bit, her unknowingly dropping the whole thing, and smiled.

“I love you too, don’t you know that, silly goose?”

He grinned and nodded. "I promise on the butterfly," he said, taking her hand and kissing the ring. "There, happy?"

When she said she loved him, he shook his head. "I do," he said. "But this is...different, Keels. This is serious. I'm not sure how I know but it's different this time. And I. Love. You."

Keels let him take her hand, moving the other to rest on his shoulder. By ‘shallow’, when he walked into it, he accounted for his own height. Keels was quite a few inches shorter, and therefore, would have had to stand on her toes to breathe. She just clung to Cal though, making him support her; though she was lighter in water.

“Very.” She answered, her tongue once again going out as he asked such. “Butterfly says she’s quite satisfied as well.” Her tone was almost daring him to tell her it was just a ring, as well as her face.

Afterall, to her, it wasn’t just a ring. It really, really wasn’t, and she frowned when he shook his head to her question.

“Why are you questioning what I said?” she asked, quietly. “Things didn’t completely change because we messed up. Not at all!” Her voice rose, and her eyes could only be called fierce as she changed from the joking-challenge to the real.

"I'd say it again, or a million times. I wasn't lying when I said I loved you, it doesn't matter if its different than when we were kids, the words are the same, and I bloody love you, okay?"

He smiled and held her, stepping up out of the water and scooping her into his arms, walking to the shore and sitting down on a rock. He kept his arms around her, and pressed his forehead against hers.

"I wasn't questioning it, Keeley - I know you love me, and I know I love you." He sighed. "But can't you feel it? The minute we were older and I could think straight - this isn't...something anyone can call a childhood romance. This is real, this is forever. And it's not like I love you more than I did - it's just...I think I understand it more now."

He hoped she'd follow his explanation, he didn't like to see her so defensive - it wasn't like he'd questioned her faith, not really. As far as he'd said - he knew that she loved him, he never doubted it.

Keels practically sat on Cal’s lap, curled into his arms as he carried her, and just stayed there, her eyes closing when he pressed his forehead to hers. The closeness, she breathed in deeply, it was intoxicating, the feel, the scent, everything, and she almost missed what he said, not quite knowing why her moods were slipping back and forth so much.

This was so different for her, and she knew Cal had been at least taller before, that was how she met him, and so maybe he was a bit calmer about it. And as excited as she was about all the new, how curious she was, it was really hard to just calmly go through it.

“I don’t understand how you can think straight.” She murmured. “I can tell you right now I’m just simply going with it all, because if I start to think about it, or focus on my feelings specifically, I get a huge whamming headache.” She quieted again, her breathing so deep and even she could have been asleep – but she wasn’t. She was listening, just relaxed enough not to go ape-crazy over it.

“Yes, I can feel it. And that’s why I’m not dissecting it, I’m just letting it play out.” She raised her chin slightly and kissed Cal again, her eyes opening again, and her lips quirking up for the millionth time today. She liked kissing him, she did, it was just the continuation of it slightly startled her, because it was completely alien. She’d seen her parents kiss. Nothing after that did she know. After all, she had just been eleven. What eleven year old knew more? She still thought babies came from storks.

She blinked at him, slowly, not really looking at him, but thinking, and then just said simply, “Okay.” She regretted her rather passionate response; it was an impulse, not really like she meant to snap or yell at him. And the language? She shocked herself more than she thought she shocked him.

He sighed and moved so she could lean her head against his shoulder. "Keels," he said, laughing, "I've always been the one who thought straight - why should that be any different? You just worry about being your insane, wonderful self that I love so much, and I'll worry about the logic."

It was the best thing he could think of to say to her right now - he knew she must be going over an emotional roller coaster, and he wanted to just be there for her - whatever that meant and whatever that needed.

"It'll all be fine, I can promise you that much." He smiled, kissed her quickly again, and then just rocked her back and forth in his arms, letting the warm sun - although it was starting to sink - dry them off.

Keels thought for a moment, but she didn’t have an answer for that, so she just smiled. “Okay, that works just fine with me.” She looked up at his laughter, because she could feel the vibrations from is as she was pressed against him, and she wanted him to just keep on going. “Much easier, afterall, all I have to do is something absolutely illogically dangerous, right?” she grinned, her eyes taking a quick scan of the area, like she was honestly going to do so to prove she was still the Keeley he loved.

She tilted her head, and asked, “How?” How did he know it’d all be okay, how was it going to actually be alright? She couldn’t help it, her eyes began to flutter shut again, just from comfort, even though adrenaline was still pumping through her veins. Being scared did that to you, and she trailed her fingers over the arm in front of her.

He grinned and shook his head. "Nothing that'll get you hurt, hon, I love you too much to be able to deal with that." He kissed her forehead, and smiled at her. "I believe you're my Keels..." He really hoped she wasn't about to go do something dangerous.

He shrugged at her question. "I'm always going to be looking out for you," he said, pointedly. "You're mine and no one's allowed to hurt you - I'm not about to let them."

He nodded. "That's how I know."

Keeley pouted at him, mockingly, almost, because there wasn’t any banisters to fall off, or counters to fly off, and then nodded. “Since when do you use ‘I believe’? Nope, that’s not right. Cut it out, cut it out!” She was too lazy to actually get up to find something to do; she was usually spontaneous in her dangerousness, and she wouldn’t move for the world. Maybe for Cal, but not for the world.

His promises made her smile, simply because although she already knew it – and he’d shown it several occasions – but hearing it was definitely nice, she felt like floating away right then.

“Really really?” she just asked, tucking herself into his arms more securely. She fit, he was big enough for her to be able to curl up and not be falling anywhere.

Calvin brushed his hand against her stomach to make her laugh, and then kissed the top of her head. "Alright, I won't say it," he said. "But there's a first time for everything, isn't there? Always?"

He tucked her closer into his arms - their clothes were pretty much dry now - and made sure she was comfortable in his arms. "Really really," he said. "Believe me - if you ever need me, I'll be there. Always. You can find me...wherever. We could even make a meeting spot - go to the glade we found and send me a message."

"There is, but that first time was a long time ago." She said sternly. "No more I believes with that statement." Her voice lowered and became soft, "We've already went over this, I love you, and I'm yours. The end."

She liked the idea of having a meeting spot, somewhere she could go to be just with him, and leave messages, and she nodded. With her head tucked under his chin, she could feel him talking as well as hear it, and closed her eyes once again. It was soothing, almost, to hear him talk.

"I like that idea." She told him quietly. The setting sun just made her want to talk quietly.

"Keep on talking please?"
