"Well that's comforting," she said over her shoulder as she headed out of the room. "I'm sure I'll find him someday, then." She stood there, watching him for a moment, then added -

"Come on, we should get going - I know a place we can get something to eat. It's where Carlie works, maybe it'll be her shift."

Llian couldn't help but wonder if that was really such a good idea. From what Carlie had told him, she really couldn't stand Marina. And he could quite clearly see that Marina, just as Carlie had told him, had no idea.

But he could also tell that she was not one to be swayed, so he said, "Sounds good to me. I just need to grab a quick shower."

Marina nodded and said, "I'm going to go into my room and freshen up - I'll survive without a mirror."

She laughed a little. "Meet you downstairs when you're all set."

With that, she kissed him once on the lips and headed out of the room and into her own part of the house.

Llian couldn't help but smile a little as she kissed him and headed into the bathroom to take a quick shower. It didn't take him long to get ready, and twenty minutes later, he came downstairs, freshened up and dressed.

"Ready to go," he said. "Sorry if I kept you waiting."

Marina smiled, shaking her head. Her hair had dried and was curly, and it tumbled down her back. "Don't worry about it, let's go." She led him out onto the street and began walking.

Llian smiled and followed her out the door. As they walked down the street, he remembered just how much he'd missed Italy. Rather, he'd missed the ability to just pick up and go somwhere completely different.

Maybe someday soon, he'd head to a different country for a little while. After he finished what Lynx told him to do, he might take some vacation time and just travel.

Marina and Llian arrived back after breakfast. Llian said something about straightening his room and headed up the stairs. Marina stayed in the kitchen and decided to organize the refrigerator, because she had absolutely nothing better to do.

Lynx knocked on the door of the house that the Italian Head Auror had given her as Llian's address. She was more nervous than ever, considering the other Head Auror hadn't seen him in awhile. That couldn't be good.

She shivered slightly, not due to the cold air [[though it was rather chilly]] but due to nerves instead.

Marina opened the door to see a completely unfamiliar girl standing on the doorstep. She raised her eyebrows slightly - had she forgotten to take down the "for rent" sign outside?

"Yes?" she asked, her entire attitude an 'I'm better than you' kind of thing.

Lynx wasn't sure why, but the girl irked her for no reason. Maybe it was the way in which she was speaking.

But she didn't care. As long as she could see Llian and make sure everything was all right. "I'm looking for Llian Eppes," she said. She had to restrain herself from peering over the woman's shoulder to see if Llian was in the house anywhere.

It was driving her crazy not knowing.

Marina opened the door wider and stepped back, inviting Lynx in, and thanking her lucky stars Llian was upstairs. The woman was attractive, and if she was looking for Llian...

She had no idea why she was looking for Llian. "Wait a minute...why would you be looking for him?"

Lynx stepped in and glanced around for some sign of her brother. A jacket, a letter, a well-worn travel guide....anything.

But there was nothing. Surprised at the woman's question she replied, "I just need to see him...it's very important."

She only half-realized that she wasn't explaining things as well as she could have, but she was too busy glancing around.

"I'm sorry," she finally said, turning back to Marina. "I completely forgot to introduce myself. Lynx Silverhawk, Head Auror of England, where Llian worked."

Marina gave her a scathing glare. What could be so important that she needed to see him for? Was she...she could be trying to see him because she was also interested...in taking Meredith's place? The head auror – that was pretty big.

So she did the only thing she could think of. “He used to be staying here,” she lied convincingly, “but he has since...moved on.” She worded the last part delicately – couldn't leave room for too many questions, but she coudln't be specific because she didn't want her lie to be caught.

Lynx froze, and her face went pale with shock. He was gone. He was really dead. He committed suicide. Llian committed suicide.

The thought was almost too much for her to bear. She was nearly too surprised to move, and it was only after she was standing in the hallway for about five minutes that she realized she hadn't said anything for a long while.

It was almost like she couldn't believe what she was hearing, like she expected Llian to walk into the room that very moment, smiling and telling her that everything was all right. But he wouldn't. She'd never see him again.

"I....I have to go," she finally said, blinking back the tears of shock.

Turning, she moved quickly out of the house without another word to Marina.

Marina watched her go and smirked to herself. Well that worked... she thought. Whoever this Lynx thought she was, and whatever she wanted Llian for - she couldn't have him.

She went back to the book she'd been reading.

Carlie, having just gotten off work, found her thoughts drifting around to her cousin's new tenant. And his smile. So, hanging up her apron she'd decided to pay a long-avoided visit to Marina. Even though she was well-aware that Llian was probably way too old for her.

She knocked on Marina's door, bracing herself for an enthusiastic welcome or something to that extent.

"Carlie!" Marina all bu shrieked, when she saw her standing on the doorstep. "You finally decided to visit - you have to come in, I'm just getting myself dinner - I think Llian's eating out somewhere, I honestly have no idea."

She waved her cousin inside and sat down on a couch in the living room. "I made extra food," she said, "For leftovers and all, but you can stay and eat here."

So Carlie had finally come to visit. This was interesting timing - right after Llian showed up. She didn't really think about the connection, though.

Carlie stepped inside, looking around - true to Marina's word, Llian really didn't seem to be there. Which was disappointing - he was the entire reason she'd dragged herself down for a much-dreaded conversation, after all.

"Uhm...I had lunch not that long ago...but I guess I can stay?" she said, knowing there would be no choice. She sat down on the opposite end of the couch from Marina, and stayed quiet.

Marina nodded - "Of course you'll stay, silly..."

She was really looking forward to spending an afternoon of conversation with Carlie, because they had tons of catching up to share. "Oh...so guess what happened?"

She was fully prepared to relate everything to her cousin - even things that some people considered personal were not too personal for Marina to gossip about. And if it was herself? Well that was just a news blurb that had to be spread.

"I have no idea," she said dryly, knowing full well it would only be a matter of seconds before she did know. That was one of Marina's favorite lead-in lines. She hid a sigh - she was in for a long afternoon.
