Marina's House

Marina gave a slight, girlish giggle and rested her hand on his chest playfully. "You're not getting in the way, don't be silly!"

She wondered how long it would take before she could get across to him that she liked him. And how long it would take for him to get over his girlfriend's death.

Was she flirting with him? It seemed like it, but Llian wasn't sure. He'd been wrong in those situations before, and it was always extremely awkward, so he decided not to say anything. Besides, he was living with her, so if he did say anything and it wasn't true, then it would be extremely awkward. And if it was true, well, he certainly wasn't ready to move on from Meredith.

Yes, he found her attractive - after all, she could pass for Meredith's twin - he just didn't want a relationship at that moment.

So he stepped back and asked, "So how has your day been?" There, a nice, neutral question.

Her eyes clouded slightly - he either was still being completely oblivious, or he was avoiding flirting at all. So she decided to keep it up, just at a minimum, in case he was just not getting the hint.

"My day was pretty good," she said, grinning. "It's nice knowing I finally rented out the apartment."

She smiled at him, letting the corners of her mouth curl up. "And how was your day?"

"Pretty uneventful," Llian said, shrugging. "I just checked in at the Auror Headquarters and then I spent most of the day unpacking."

He sat down at the kitchen table with the can of soda he'd gotten from the fridge. Opening it, he determinedly focused the top of the can. He didn't want to look at Marina, because everytime she smiled at him, he was reminded of Meredith, and he was attracted to her.

And it wasn't like he wanted to act on those feelings, but he was tempted simply because of the fact that it had been quite a long time since he'd had any sort of romantic interaction with anyone. I mean, yes, he was together with Meredith, but she was in the hospital for most of that.

Marina pulled a chair around so it was right next to him, and then sat, tracing her finger over his lips. “Why the long face?” she asked, slowly. He seemed to be thinking about something. “What can I do to make you smile?”

She rested her hand under his chin and gently lifted his face until she could make eye contact with him. “Anything?”

Llian was a little surprised at Marina's actions - and her words - and felt extremely guilty at how tempted he was to take her up on the offer.

But he pulled his chair back and grinned nervously at her. "No, I'm fine thanks. I was just...thinking about Meredith."

Well, in a way that was true, even though he was more thinking about how she reminded him of her.

Marina nodded. "Well..."

She thought about what she could do - quiet clearly, she couldn't keep this up, he was uncomfortable. And he'd brought up his precious Meredith again.

"I'm going upstairs to take a shower...come get me if you need me, alright?"

She knew she could have put a "later" in there, but she left it out - who needed it? It was more open for interpretation if she didn't include it. She tapped her finger across his lips one more time and said, "Smile!" before she stood and left the room, letting her hips move gracefully as she went up the stairs - which were visible through the doorway.

Llian watched her walk away, surprised to find himself actually smiling. Ok, so he was physically attracted to his housemate. Actually...very physically attracted. So now what did he do?

He had raised an eyebrow at her loose meaning of 'come get me if you need me' but he was certainly NOT going take her up on the implied meaning of that statement.

No, he had to find something else to do. And he most definitely needed to get out of the house, so he decided that right then would be the perfect time for a long walk.

Marina stepped out of a relaxing shower and let her red hair fall loosely over her shoulders, charming it to dry, but not nearly all the way - it looked good half-wet, she decided. Wrapping a short pink bathrobe around her, she smiled at herself in the mirror and began to brush her hair - she made sure the door leading to Llian's apartment was slightly ajar. She knew it was directly across from his bedroom.

Llian headed upstairs to his apartment. Noticing the door was ajar to the bathroom, he glanced in. Marina was in there, and she'd clearly just gotten out of the shower. Her hair was wet, and the only clothing she wore was a short pink bathrobe.

Just what he needed to see. So much for just heading straight up to his room and avoiding her. And he stood there for a moment, not really sure what to do.

He knew what his body was telling him to do, but his mind continuously was reminding him that it was a BAD idea. A VERY bad idea.

Well, it would be rude of him if he didn't at least greet her, he rationalized. I mean, he should at least alert her of his presence somehow.

"Hey Marina," he called, trying to keep his voice light as he glanced towards the books he had brought which now aligned the bookshelf in his room. Somehow, he was interested in reading none of them at that very moment.

Marina heard him call her, and she smiled to herself - she'd heard him pause outside the door, had he looked in? She hadn't noticed.

Loosening it so it wasn't covering quite as much as it could have, she left the bathroom and walked slowly into his room, stopping in the doorway to lean ever so slightly on the doorframe - her hair fell over one shoulder, curling slightly.

"Hey, Llian," she said, smiling. "How was your walk?"

Llian couldn't resist gazing down at the loose bathrobe but quickly forced his eyes back up to her face.

"It was pretty good," he said. He knew he sounded a bit distracted [[I mean, come on! He was a guy standing in front of a barely dressed woman that reminded him of Meredith]], and he tried to force the tone from his voice.

"I ran into your cousin...Carlie," he said.

Marina nodded slowly at this - she smiled again and approached him, until she was standing next to him. She swung her arm lightly and it brushed against his arm and the his side. “Carlie! She’s great, isn’t she? I haven’t seen her in a while – we were going to hang out tomorrow…but…”

She watched him a moment, then reached her hand out and traced the outline of his lips, once again. “You’re still not smiling,” she said, pouting playfully. “I need to convince you to smile.”

Half of him wanted to tell her, "Of course I'm not smiling...my girlfriend just passed away!"

But the other half...the part of him that shivered a little at her touch, the physical part, wanted to let her convince him to smile.

So he settled for somewhere in between. "And how exactly would you plan on doing that?"

Marina shrugged, and pulled her finger away from his lips. Letting the bathrobe slip open slightly further, she kissed him on the lips once, tracing her finger across the back of his neck, parting her lips slightly.

She waited, not pulling away, to see how he would react.

It had been months since Llian's last...physical...interaction with anyone, and as Marina kissed him, he returned the kiss, his hands moving to her waist, but a rational part of his brain seemed to strike, and he suddenly pulled back.

"I don't know if this is such a good idea," he said, almost apologetically. For one, they lived together, and that could get messy. That and he was completely not available emotionally. Physically, now that was a different story, but he didn't want her to get the wrong idea.

"Of course it's a good idea," she said, pursing her lips and pulling him back towards her playfully. "Kissing is always a good idea."

Why was he saying no? It was quite clear from the way he responded that he wanted to kiss her back, so rather than let him respond she pushed her mouth more firmly against his, wrapping an arm around his shoulder.

He pulled back immediately this time. Logical. He was supposed to be logical...he'd been a Ravenclaw for a reason right?

"Look, Marina, it's just...with us living together, I don't want things to get awkward. And I... I really can't be in any sort of relationship right now."

There. He'd put it on the table and was just being honest with her.

Marina let her eyes reflect the hurt she was feeling. "We're both lonely," she said, slowly. "It doesn't have to be any sort of emotional attachment, and I promise I won't let things get awkward. But we've gotten along well so far - and I don't like being alone."

She shrugged slightly, again approaching him, but not kissing him. She ran a hand down his arm. "I bet you miss her..."

No emotional attachment...that could work. Yes, that could definitely work.

"Yeah, I do miss her," he said sadly.

And she was standing right in front of him, a hand on his arm. And he couldn't seem to get rid of the physical attraction to her. "So no emotional attachments? You're sure?"
