"Workaholic?" Declan asked. "I guess it runs in the family. I've heard your brother is a little bit of a workaholic himself."

He could honestly understand why people worked a lot. He just didn't particularly like doing it himself. He had always been the kind of guy who just did what he was told to do and didn't really put a lot of extra work into the job. Not everyone could be really invested in their careers.

Kelly paused, trying to think of how exactly to explain it. "It's not that...well, I love what I do, yes. It's a big part of my life, yes. But it's more like...the things that I do? I can start a project but I have issues handing it off to other people to be finished. The whole...if you want it done right, do it yourself? thing? And I'm just given lots and lots of projects, and I end everything I start as satisfactory as possible. So...well, yeah. I guess that's workaholic."

But she didn't have issues taking time to pause and enjoy the finer things in life.

Kel had to smile when Declan said Chris was a workaholic as well, just saying, "He's a bit more driven."

"At least you enjoy your job," Declan pointed out. "Some people can't exactly say that." Actually, in this world not a lot of people really seemed to like their jobs. They put up with them, which was definitely not the same thing.

"Well, from what I hear, apparently Chris is more driven than a lot of people." He'd met the younger Healer a few times; obviously he knew him since they worked in the same hospital. Declan had just never really been that close to any of his colleagues. He went to work, did his job, and went home. That didn't mean he wasn't going to be nice to people. He just didn't make the extra effort to get to know people.

"But again - he loves what he does. It's nice to be able to say that."

Kelly conceded, "That's very true."

She was lucky.

But then they were talking about Chris and Kel just laughed. Of course she knew her brother. She'd watched him. He had a ton of drive. A lot more than her, that's for sure. And clearly, it was quite obvious, seeing as people who know him from work can see that as well. Especially since Declan added a 'from what I hear', indicated that he didn't know Chris very well. So. Yeah. Pretty obvious.

"Okay okay, enough about my bro. I think he would take that as a compliment and then his ego would swell." Naturally, she was just teasing, but it couldn't be too interesting to talk to a healer about another healer and how great he was. That was just kind of weird.

Declan laughed. "Noted," he replied.

"So, how did you get involved with working at the Ministry?" he asked, changing the subject. He didn't think that her job choice was among the usuals of Hogwarts students who had to start thinking about life after school.

The typical jobs had always been - at least from what Declan could remember - Auror, Healer, Cursebreaker, teacher. Public relations at the Ministry had never really been one of the popular options, to be sure.

Kelly heard his question, and then she smiled slightly.

"And here I just said lets not talk about my brother..."

Oh well. It had to do with her answer anyways. "Chris, by our seventh year, was already doing healing studies. I really didn't want to follow that, you know? And I couldn't really handle blood and stuff. I am totally not the greatest dueler either, and solving crimes, still being involved with the horrors directly...didn't really appeal to me. I actually almost graduated without a career in mind."

Kelly shrugged. That would have been horrible, but what was she going to do about it? It was about that time that she realized that she needed to go home, needed to help out. A new training with more school and more costs and tests would have taken up too much time, and she couldn't balance both.

"But, I talked to my head of house, and they pointed out a few things that I didn't link with career. I was a prefect, I organized dances, protested rules for the students, ran clubs. You know, just tried to make things fun for us and yet fair to the teachers. Compromises and all that. So she suggested something to do with public relations. It wasn't a popular job because no one wanted to deal with people and their problems, find ways to make everyone happy, day after day. But I was...good at it. At the time I was needed at home, and I was able to intern at the Ministry part-time. It offered me a way to juggle life and work and still get payed enough to help out."

Not the funnest part of her life, but she managed.

"Eventually I took on more and more hours, and now I'm pretty far up. And I definitely have to say, working with people instead of dealing with making coffee runs and filing for hours, plus the extra pay, is definitely much better. I'm glad I stuck with it."

And there. She'd rambled some more. She just wasn't doing a good job with simple conversation, was she?

"That's really great. It's nice to find something out of the norm," he replied. Declan wasn't exactly the best conversationalist, but he was at least trying. He didn't necessarily dislike talking to people; it just wasn't something he went out of his way to do. But Kelly seemed nice enough.

"Besides, I think talking to people is a really good skill. Definitely not something that can be learned. You either have the talent or you don't." He shrugged and took a sip of his coffee. "That's why, no matter how hard they try, some Healers can't get the 'bedside manner' thing down."

"How long have you been at the ministry?"

Kelly nodded, saying simply, "I certainly think so."

It wasn't anything to him. It really, really wasn't. But the conversation on careers was quickly losing it's interest for her, despite her trying to answer his questions and keep them talking. But of course, until she figured out a different conversation to start, she had to stick with this one.

"Absolutely. You can be good at it but there's no way to be natural. Honestly though, I may just bs it well enough." She smiled, and then asked, "Yeah...I've noticed that. So which one are you? Bedside manner perfectionist or struggling to get there?"

When he asked her how long she'd been working at the ministry, Kel paused to think. After a moment she said, "Six...? Years. I think."

After accompanying her sister to her office-- sufficiently freaking out from the note and bloody coat -- Kylie had basically sat in the office while her sister worked, gotten extremely bored, and hauled her out of the office.

"Oh come on. I know, I know, you need to finish your work. You also, have been working and ignoring me, your poor sister who flew half way around the world to see you for the past four hours. It's just coffee, for merlinsakes."

Kylie was bouncing slightly as she spoke, bored out of her mind, and glad to be walking again.

"Oh yes, you poor long suffering dear." Tanya protested half heartedly. Of course, she had been planning on sneaking off while Kylie discovered the lemon bars in the booth and visiting a few patients, but she was sidetracked by the mention of her coming "around the world". (That, and the fact that Tanya had yet to be released by her younger sister.)

"Why did you come half way around the world again?" She asked as they entered the cafeteria; she was feeling slightly guilty for she was sure that Kylie had already informed her of this, and she had not understood it.

It was quite honestly only due to the fact that she had no idea what to tell Kyle about the "marriage" she was in.

"I think I'm somewhere in between," Declan answered, but before he got a chance to say anything, a man came in. From the garb, it was clear that the man was a patient in the hospital and out of his room.

He didn't appear to be injured, although Declan noticed he was nervous right away. It was hard to miss that simple fact, given that his eyes were daring everywhere. He stood at the door to the cafeteria - its only exit - and blocked it.

Of course, the man's nervousness was not the most noticeable thing about him by far. The fact that he had a young Acolyte in his grip, his arm around her neck with a wand pointed at her head, was what Declan noticed first.

Psych ward escapee, he was willing to bet.

"Nobody move, or she dies!" The man barked out orders.

Glancing around, Declan noticed that other patients - other escapees - had also escaped and were aiding him. Great. Mass breakout on the psych ward.

It was then that his pager went off announcing the same thing. Juuust lovely.

He glanced over at Kelly, murmuring, "Guess your Mungo's visit just got interesting."

Kelly noticed that Declan's attention had gone elsewhere, and she turned to see what his gaze was heading to. It took her a minute to recognize what was happening, but when she did, she gave a little gasp.

That poor acolyte looked absolutely scared out of their mind, and Kelly, very slowly, turned to count how many there were. That was her first impulse. To observe the details.

At Declan's comment, she looked back at him, her eyes wide as she asked, "Does this happen a lot?"

He just seemed so utterly calm about it. Not calm, but just simply...'well, damn."

Oh great. Whomever this was, they were clearly out of their mind, not to mention that the nurs--Acolyte, right-- was out of their mind as well. Kylie rolled her eyes, popped her gum, and said simply,

"Did it look like any of us were stopping you in here?"

Well, really. There she was, just standing there with her sister attempting to get a decent cup of coffee (and stop being ignored), and instead, she found herself trapped with a random few number of people who looked like they were patients themselves barking orders and waving a wand.

"Just...do whatever it is you came to do and leave, honestly." And she rolled her eyes again.

"Kylie." Tanya snapped, her eyes wide. Oh of course, she'd been in plenty of 'hostage' situations with Dayton, now hadn't she? She probably knew all about this kind of thing. Even once told Tanya how she liked them-- when they were for less...realistic, more fantastical...type things.

Great. If she started fantasizing about this crazy person, Tanya was dragging her out of there by her ear.

Drawing her wand slowly, she attempted to not make it obvious that she was using her pager.

The man shook his head nervously. "Shut up! All of you, shut up! I need a Healer," he announced nervously.

"The Ministry is after me, and they're going to find me and take me back if I stay here. I need someone to get me discharge papers, or I swear... I swear this girl's going to get it!"

He held the wand to the Acolyte's head, his hand still shaking. The young woman gave a muffled sob, trying to remain calm.

Declan shook his head at Kelly. "Definitely not often,' he said, trying to remain calm.

Paranoid schizophrenic, definitely. The dangerous type too. Afraid the government was after him, and now he was trying to get out.

"I'm sorry sir, I don't think we can do that," he spoke up.

Well then. People out of the psych ward? Kelly slowly stood up.

Seeing that one woman was already biting comments to the man. Kel knew that would help. In a gentle voice, she called out, "Honey, the healers in here are on break. They don't have any papers to sign, because it's a cafeteria. They have some fantastic hot tea if you'd like that, but otherwise you're out of luck for now."

She raised her hands, to show she had nothing in them, and then introduced herself, "Hi, I'm Kelly Daniels. You can call me Kel if you'd like. What's your name?"

She gave a small, calm smile, and just gave her full attention to whomever the man was. Most people just wanted to be treated with respect, like they were human beings, even if he was clinically insane. She didn't let on that she was a ministry worker, that would most likely freak him out and make things worse.

Tanya stepped in front of Kylie-- before she could say anything, not because she was worried about her sister (really), and kept her one hand up, the call to the reception desk having been paged. It was a fairly simple message -- They're upstairs, get a team, stat -- and she spoke slowly as well. Her ears perked up slightly. Kelly...Kelly Daniels?

"Kelly's right." Tanya said simply. "I'm Tanya Daniels, and there's unfortunately nothing we can do about that right now. Maybe if you let Maggie go (the young Acolyte wimpered again)-- we can take you back downstairs and talk about this?"

Poor Maggie. As far as Tayn knew, she had not been their long. And really, the last thing this hospital needed was to lose more healers. Merlin.

Declan decided it would be best for the moment to let Kelly do her job, and Tanya was helping. He figured they didn't need too many people trying to talk to him at once.

Instead, Declan focused on trying to subtly get to his wand in the pocket of his robes. Maybe he could get a good shot in at one of the other patients. That, he knew, would be risky. Especially because he caught the fact that at least one more of them had gotten ahold of a wand.

The man shook his head. "No, I need to get out now. I'm not letting you out till the papers are signed. My name is Jeremy Thompson. Someone needs to bring up my discharge papers, or none of you are making it out!"

Kelly couldn't help herself; she turned and threw a glare at the woman trying to 'help'. Really, that was nice and all, but talk-downs were practically her thing, and if too many people talked at once, the person was likely to become confused and more likely to think he or she is being scammed, and won't trust them.

It was pretty simple, as the man had already given his demands.

Kelly also thought it was strangely random that they had the last name, but she didn't comment on it. Focusing on the victim instead.

"I understand Jeremy." Kelly said in the same tone, asking, "Do you mind if I come over there? It's hard to yell back and forth over the cafeteria."

She kept her hands up, and said, "Okay, so you want discharge papers. What's the ministry after you for Jeremy?"

Continually use his name, check. Ask permission before doing things, check.

"Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable right now?"

Arching her eyebrow as she was glared at ; geesh, she was just trying to help, wasn't she?-- Tanya fell silent and stayed in front of an all-together-too-noisy Kylie, who was blowing her bubble gum and beaming from ear to ear still. She actually looked bored.

Oh Kylie.

Spying that whomever the Healer who had been sitting with Kelly was had been getting out his wand, Tanya slowly stepped more into the man-- Jeremy's-- line of sight so that he couldn't see the draw.
