Conner laughed.

"And if Gabe was to walk in and propose, how would you know if was for you?!"

Conner said affronted.

"Dukey... I think it's time to tell you...."

He said in a deadly serious voice.

"Gabriel and I have been having an affair behind your back..."

Fighting a smile and knowing it probably wouldn't work on her anyway, he still looked at her seriously.

"WELL!" She said with a sigh and leaned back resting a hand on her belly. "I think that you'd look pretty weird carrying his baby..." She said smiling.

"I just don't like having even the small wall I have up with Gabe. I trust him, I really do, but I am just so scared to get hurt. But I mean, he got hurt by his last ex too, so he knows what its like." She shrugged. "I don't know, one day it'll come down."

She took another bite and fliped the page of the magazine. "Hows the boyfriend?" she asked quickly, casually and softly.

She quickly checked her watch. "You know what, we'll have to talk about him later... I have to go back to work, and then go home. Later sweetheart." She winked and walked away giggling.

Declan headed to the cafeteria, needing a dinner break after a long day of working shifts. He hadn't exactly enjoyed the day, having had to deal with fussy children in the Pediatrics ward. Definitely not his favorite.

The cafeteria was actually rather crowded, so he sat down at the end of a table with a few empty seats around him after getting a burger, which looked somewhat edible. He sat down to enjoy his dinner.

Kelly walked into Mungo's. It wasn't like she hadn't been here before, because she had, she was just...really distracted. She hadn't been in this town in quite a while, and getting used to her life of freedom from so much responsibility was just...weird.

And naturally, she wouldn't ask for help. She walked into what she thought would have been a staircase, or hallway, to find her brother, and immediately stepped into a pretty full cafeteria. Well then.

Not quite where she was supposed to be. Sighing, and realizing that she wasn't going to be able to find it all by herself, Kelly looked around for a white jacket. The first person she saw was all by himself, and she walked over, dropping into the chair across from him.

"I'm really, really sorry to interuppt your dinner..." she started apologetically, setting her chin on her laced fingers, her elbows on the table as she slumped. "I'm kind of really lost. Do you think you could tell me where in the world I could find Chris Daniels?"

She rolled her eyes as she explained, "I'm Kelly, his sister, and this place is far too big. Honestly."

Declan looked up and listened to the woman joining him. He knew Chris Daniels. Had never met any of his family, although he was aware that Chris apparently had a large family. Lots of siblings, a Healer aunt. Word traveled around the hospital, and Declan usually picked it up, well aware of the fact that it was just wiser to just listen and learn a little bit.

"I'm sorry, Kelly," Declan said, "I don't think I can help you there. Chris is normally all over the place, although you might want to check his office? Fifth floor, if you didn't know."

Then he added, "I'm Declan, by the way. Do you need me to show you where the offices are?" She had mentioned that she was lost.

Kelly smiled. Good. He wasn't someone that was going to completely bite her head off for her just randomly inviting herself to sit across from him and talk to him.

She ignored the bit about her brother for a split second as she said, "Declan. That's a unique name. I like it."

Anyways, back to the reason she was here. "Well. If I knew where my wonderful brother lived, I would have just gone there. Problem is, I'm pretty sure he practically lives here, and it's not like he knows I'm here."

Rambling about unimportant stuff, much? "Yet."

Kelly waved her hand slightly and said, "Only when you're finished. I'm in no rush. Actually I think I might grab some tea. Be right back."

She was certainly high-energy, having gotten up early, let off early from work, the sun was shining even though it was cold...it was a pretty good day. She wasn't in quite as much of a huff about not being able to find her brother. And the tea, whereas she did want it, was more of a 'hey, no big. you do what you were doing and when you have a chance, that'd be great' thing.

She was back a moment later, stirring the ungodly amount of sugar into the hot water.

"Fifth floor, office, check." Kelly nodded, and then took a sip.

"Thanks," Declan replied. "My parents are very proud of being Irish, and Declan is about as Irish as you can get."

He nodded and continued eating as Kelly disappeared to get some tea. At least she was considerate of others, so he had time to eat his meal.

When she came back, he said, "You know, if you wanted I'm sure the front desk can page him. Might be easier than tracking him down, although I'd be more than happy to take you to his office." That was, after all, where Chris spent most of his time, at least from what he knew. Apparently he loved research.

Kelly was going to ask why he was in England, but she figured that would be too nosy. After all, she did kind of just invite herself into sitting with him while he ate and then have him lead her to where ever the offices were.

So instead she just sat back with her drink and sipped, wondering if his last statement was a hint. You know, hey, the office can do their jobs and you can leave me alone' type thing. However, she really didn't think it was like that, because if it was like that, he wouldn't have added that he still could bring her to his office.

Seeing as Kelly couldn't find Chris from the get-go, and she was sort of just interrupting his work, she explained, "I'd rather just wait in his office, to tell you the truth. If he's not there, then he's either with someone or going to go see someone, and I don't want to get in the way."

That wasn't why she came. It'd just been a while, and she had time to wait.

"That makes sense," Declan replied. "It's like that piece of advice: if you're lost, stay where you are and wait for someone to find you."

Declan wasn't sure if he believed in that sort of thing. He believed in being proactive, but then again: it was finding someone in a hospital. Not life or death. Whatever.

"I take it you don't often visit your brother at work?" he asked.

Kelly laughed. "Unless you're lost in a bad place and standing around looking like you have no idea what you're doing is just asking for trouble. Or, if your lost somewhere to surprise someone, and they don't know you're there...there's no point in waiting to be found, isn't that right?"

Which was totally why she had just randomly asked him.

When he asked about visiting Chris, Kelly just smiled sheepishly, "Uhm. No. I've not been here much. When I was born. When my siblings were born. A quick stint when my arm got broken climbing trees, you know, the regular stuff. I knew he was here, and...that's about it."

As an after thought, she then quipped, "I take it people don't ask you for directions that often?"

"That's true," Declan replied with a smile. "There are always exceptions to the rule." Like Healers who worked for the Dark Lord. Wasn't that somewhat of a contradiction? A half-blood Death Eater? He was a walking contradiction. A Healer who created tragedies, not saved people from them.

"Well, I guess that makes sense. If I didn't work here, I wouldn't want to be hanging around much either." And he shook his head at her question. "Well, people ask for directions, but it's usually not people who have relatives who work here. It's normally patients who have never been before."

Because he wasn't done eating, he decided to strike up a conversation. "So what do you do for work? Does the Healer gene run in the family?"

Kelly nodded agreeably, getting comfortable in the plastic chair. Or, as well as one could be in a plastic chair.

"There's no point to hang out here if you don't have a reason to be here. Other than the fantastic food down here." Kelly just grinned, "All those kids and pregnant women and injuries and the like. I mean, it's a great place to spend your friday nights..."

As for people who asked directions, she just shrugged, "I guess I'm just special then. There's always a first to everything."

When he asked her if she was in some kind of healing profession, Kelly crinkled her nose, "Oh no. Noooo way. That is all Chris. I work at the Ministry, actually. And I have a brother that's an actor, a sister in the modeling business...we're kind of spread all over the place. But I'm sooo not into healing."

She was squeamish at the sight of blood, let alone gouges and babies coming out of people and germs and spells making people act weird and all that stuff.

Damn. She worked at the Ministry. Declan knew it was just him being self-conscious, but he could have sworn that, after knowing that, his Dark Mark burned underneath his shirt. It wasn't a summoning, that was for sure, but he was very aware of its presence.

It made him nervous to keep talking to her, but he knew that couldn't change any of the conversation. That would look too suspicious. "That is quite a range of occupations," he replied.

"So, what sort of work do you do at the Ministry?" Hopefully she wasn't an Auror, although he did know that the Aurors didn't know about him yet.

All of a sudden Kelly picked up that he was somehow uncomfortable, and she looked a little worried, apologizing, "I'm sorry, I'm really just interrupting you and rambling about nonsense a lot... I can just go ask the front desk like you suggested?"

Of course, he did keep talking, and she kind of perched on her chair, completely understanding if he decided to say that he had wasted too much time and had to go. She was seriously a totally different person at work, when she had things to get done, but in other place's of people's work she was a little overly cautious about getting in the way.

"I'm in the department that works with the public. Keeps the happy, calms disputes and such? I'm not sure if that's where I want to stay, but I do like working with the people a lot more than doing paperwork and fixing stupid magical oopsies all day long."

Obviously she knew he was a healer, hence the getup, but she asked, "What do you specialize in?"

"No, don't worry about it," Declan replied with a smile. "It's really no trouble at all. In fact, I enjoy some conversation that's not about how many potions to give a patient or who last had the new shipment of Skele-Gro."

He did relax when he found out she wasn't really directly involved with the Aurors or anyone else who would want to catch Death Eaters. "That sounds like a difficult job," he remarked. "But it is nice to work with people."

When asked what he specialized in, he replied, "My main focus is on Spell Damage, but it's a pretty broad field. I've done most of my studying on healing Dark Arts curses and spells."

Kelly didn't give it a second thought once he said she was fine. She sat back again, and laughed. "Well I'm sure that's intense conversation right there. I'm kinda jealous."

She was really, really joking. Because Kelly never did well with potions and quite bluntly, they bored her to tears. She didn't like taking potions and using salves and she never really did feel comfortable with them anyways. What exactly was she putting in her system and all that jazz.

As for her job being difficult, Kelly shrugged, "Maybe. You just have to know when it's time for you to take charge and be forceful about something, or when to sit back and listen, and then do exactly what they want. Obviously there's always the kind of people who are abrasive and don't want to be considerate, so patience is necessary. But that's kind of normal in all kinds of jobs involving working with others, isn't it? I bet you see that sometimes as well."

It was really interesting that he worked in Dark Arts, because...well. That would help so much. If you knew that you could be helped, and cured? The spells wouldn't seem so dangerous and they were be less used because they were less effective. Or something of the like. "Have you made any break throughs?"

Declan smiled. "Yeah, it's pretty intense. Kinda like philosophy and questioning the meaning of life."

Of course, he wasn't serious. His job mainly consisted of listening to patients complain and trying to fix the damage from whatever spells had gone wrong. The summer was normally the busiest time for him, because there were a lot of Hogwarts students ignoring the 'no magic in the summer' rule.

"And yeah: we definitely need to know how to deal with people here. Patients come in all temperaments... and when you have people coming in with damage from Merlin knows what types of spells, they're not normally very pleasant."

He shook his head. "No, I don't make the breakthroughs," he replied. "I just do what I'm told." For the most part.

Kelly's smile just widened as she said, "Oh, I'm sure."

The meaning of life. That honestly was the most pointless question either. She had a quote she saw a few years ago, something about not knowing the plot of your life, but knowing that you had a great cast. To her, the meaning of life wasn't something to find, it was to find what you could contribute and do the best you can for you and for those around you, the end. People who spent their lives searching for some higher meaning at every term for why they were alive and what they were meant to do miss the doors opening around them.

At least, that's what she thought.

Listening, Kelly nodded sympathetically, "I'll bet. And naturally they'd take it all out on the person trying to help them, because they can't at the spell caster anymore, can they?"

Oh. Minus the coming to have help because of the spell damage type thing, she knew how that was too. Being yelled at because some guy found some loophole but he was ticketed, or the such.

"Well. That's still cool."

'Cool'. Well she certainly was articulate today, wasn't she?

"Naturally," Declan agreed, smiling. Honestly, a lot of his patients just amused him, even if he got really frustrated with the job sometimes. So they liked to take their frustrations out on him. So what?

"They just like having someone to blame." He shrugged.

"And yeah: I like not having to be the guy in charge. Much easier that way. It at least gives me some time to have a life outside of work, you know?"

Kelly nodded. "That's pretty normal everywhere."

And really? Sometimes it's hard to deal with. It wears on you after a while, no matter how patient you are. You know they don't mean you specifically, and they're just lashing out, but insults and degrading attitudes weren't all that fun to deal with. Especially if you're having a bad day already.

Needless to say, there had been one of two occasions where Kel got tired of it and snapped.

Oh well. Anyways...

"Maybe..." Kelly smiled as she confessed, "I'm kind of a workaholic."

At least she admitted it? And seriously, it wasn't that bad. When she was given the opportunity to take the day off, she did, didn't she? So not as serious as being a complete workaholic. She had a life. Sort of.
