Cafeteria; Really bad food, suprisingly good coffee

"You're not crazy," Declan said, moving to sit more comfortably on the bench of the cafeteria. If they were going to have a conversation, squatting down in front of the wheelchair wasn't necessarily the most comfortable way to do that.

"You like storms?" he asked. "That's... definitely unusual. Normally you hear about people being afraid of storms or just not minding them. Very rarely do you find someone who not only loves them but loves sitting outside in them," he remarked.

"Personally? I prefer nicer weather. Not too hot, but just warm enough that you can get away with not wearing a jacket. I've never really had feelings one way or another about storms, but maybe there's something to be said about sitting outside for one."

He shrugged. "So, other than being outside for storms, where is your absolute favorite place to go? Like, if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?"

Kelly, while Declan was getting situated on the bench, quickly dropped the tea back off on the tray. Instead, she twisted her fingers together, and responded, "There's just...something about sitting there, surrounded by water, the clouds casting a color not usually seen during regular days, the rain sliding over your skin, the electricity buzzing in the air...it makes you feel really small and insignificant."

She then laughed a little bit, "Not that I need any help feeling small."

Kelly nodded when he mentioned nice weather, and said, "That should be pretty soon, right? Spring."

She did, however, hate the cold, and the snow. So she was excited for spring to come as well.

"My favourite place to go..."
Kelly had to stop. Where did she like to go the best? "It kind of depends on the mood. The Black Forest in Germany during the summer is...possibly the most beautiful thing in the world. But it's not the place to go if you're bored. It's like...a place to go to think. Or just relax."

Declan listened, enjoying just hearing her talk about the places she liked going. She had a nice way of speaking, putting it all very eloquently.

"You make it sound so peaceful," he said. "When really, storms are considered anything but."

He nodded. "Yep. Spring should be pretty soon. I can't wait. It feels like winter lasted forever this year, and I swear if I see one more snowflake, I'm going to go crazy."

Honestly, Declan was really surprised at her pick for favorite place. "The Black Forest in Germany?" he echoed. "That was definitely unexpected, although it seems you like the outdoors a lot. Do you go to Germany often?" he asked. Personally, he didn't make a habit of traveling. He mostly just stayed in London unless he went back to Ireland to visit family over the holidays.

"Storms are only not peaceful when you think about the destruction they could cause. But if you think about the way things are after in some places, when everything's just fresh and wet?" Okay, Kelly started laughing, "You really must think I'm weird."

But she still agreed, "Well then you can just join me in the psych ward, because I swear to merlin if I'm in this hospital for much longer, I'm going to go crazy too." Probably already was going crazy.

"I love being outside." She answered, "There's so much unknown strength in a tree."

Ick. She was being weird again. "I always liked being outside and getting dirty, and but after I figured out what my patronus/etc was, that kind of just...increased. But, no, unfortunately I don't get to go to Germany a lot. I haven't been in like...six? years. I think."

"I don't think you're weird," Declan replied with a smile. "I think it makes perfect sense, actually. I've just never thought about it before."

He laughed, saying, "Then hopefully you get this antidote soon, and it'll be nice outside when you get out. Then neither of us have to go to the psych ward. But if we did, I'm sure we could organize a breakout. We've already seen what not to do," he joked.

"I like being outside too," he said. "Although, I'm more of a 'walking around the city' sort of guy than a 'spending the day in the woods' sort." He shrugged. "So what's your Patronus?" he asked, sincerely curious. Those sorts of things intrigued him, and he always got some amusement over those books they sold in Flourish and Blott's, like What Your Patronus Form Says About You and the like.

Kelly laughed, "It's okay, I think I'm weird. I'm just okay with it."

But of course, she declared, "I don't care if it's not nice, I really think anywhere but here would be the greatest thing in the world. I'm sorry, I know it's your work, but I'm so...tired of this. These...gowns that cover nothing, and everything being white, and...everything. Outside just seems like heaven, right now."

She smiled, "Right. Note to self, just walk out, don't be ensnared by cute little redheads in the cafeteria." of course, she punctuated that but stick out her tongue.

Walking around the city though? "Why?" Kelly was honestly curious, "There's so much grime and noise and cold buildings..."

She wasn't being sarcastic, that was just how she saw it, so she was definitely curious to see his side of it.

"I'm a red fox." In more than just patronus, but he didn't ask that.

"Well, if you think about it: who isn't weird?" Declan asked. "I mean, everyone's idea of 'normal' is different, so no one can be totally normal if normal is measured in different standard by everyone," he pointed out.

"So we're all a bit weird. And... I have to admit that I can understand why patients don't like the hospital that much," he added. "It's just so easy to associate it with all of these negative things, like being sick with this virus. But soon enough, you'll be outside with all of those nice, bright colors," he grinned.

"Even if we have to break out of the psych ward and ignore every single cute little redhead with surprisingly good negotiation skills in the cafeteria."

He could tell that she really was curious about his liking of the city. "Well, I grew up in the country," he explained. "So big cities were always really fascinating to me. It's fun because there's always something new going on, and you never really know what you're going to find. And the people? Well, they're always pretty interesting too, at least to observe."

When she told him her Patronus, he said, "That's really cool. I can't exactly remember the last time I had to cast a Patronus. My line of work doesn't really require it, after all. But when I learned how to cast one, it was a hare."

"That's true." Kelly conceded, just adding, "It just felt weird trying to describe it."

Being outside soon enough made her happy, to tell anyone the truth. She was so, so sick of it all. Sick of being sick. But, Kelly then asked, "Okay. Tell me honestly; considering how...weak-" She crinkled her nose, "-this is making me, is it a possibility that I would have to stay here even after the antidote is given until I can walk out of the hospital myself?"

Because it wasn't like she was going to go home and have her mom take care of her or something. And there was no such thing as a magical pill; she wouldn't just miraculously be okay. The virus would be gone, hopefully, but the havoc it wreaked on her body wouldn't just disappear.

"Surprisingly good negotiation skills?"
She then repeated, amused. "Surprisingly?"

She was intrigued as to his answer about the city, and teased, "Country boys in the city. My, my, how are you holding up with all the big, bad buildings and torrents of people?"

She supposed she could understand that. Hers was nearly the opposite. Almost. Kelly's family didn't quite live right in the middle of a big, bustling city, but close enough, right?

As for their patronus, Kelly explained, "I'm a little closer to my 'animal self' than just patronus. I don't usually use my patronus either."

"But..." A mischievous smile crossed her face, "My patronus eats your up. Yummy."

"Honestly?" Declan began. "I don't think you'll be able to just walk out of the hospital. We'll want to monitor your recovery, and the antidote will most likely take a couple of days to take effect and fully get rid of the virus. And then your body will have some repairing of its own to do,' he said. "But it shouldn't take too long after the antidote is administered. A couple of days, at the latest, I'm sure."

He laughed at her next comment. "Yes, surprisingly, because I had no idea that was what you did for work. And I was blown away by your amazing skills," he said.

"Oh I think I'm holding out just fine. But if you'd like to be my tour guide, I wouldn't exactly mind that either," he said. Well, he'd been in London long enough that he didn't exactly need a guide to find his way around. He was just joking around a bit.

Declan was intrigued by her statement, and he asked, "What do you mean 'closer' if you don't often use the Patronus?"

Kelly nodded, "That's...exactly what I thought." So, basically, just waiting for the antidote wasn't right. It was waiting for her to recover - and recovering? Wasn't so easy when what they were sick with was playing with their mind and their body. How annoying was that?

"How's this...once I get the antidote, I go home, but I come back regularly for checkups so you can see how I'm doing? Because...I'm sure I'll get better faster if I was in my own territory."
Kelly shrugged; she had a while, she figured, to convince him she would be okay at home. At least she was saying she would stay in the hospital until she was given the antidote.

Or she'd die, but whatever.

"It's easy to calm people down if you can just give them what they don't have."
Kelly whispered, "The trend is just...they want stability, they want to be safe, trusted, and treated like a human being. Not scum. Not incapable. Not stupid. It doesn't matter what you've done, or what you are a part of. A person is a person, and our society tends to forget that."

Kel moved on and then grinned, "I have a feeling you could better show me around the city than I you."

Probably. Because she doesn't pay a lot of attention to the city she's in. She probably should, but oh well.

Kelly was wondering why she was so worried he would think she was strange. Oh well.

"I'm an animagus." She answered simply, "The fox is kind of a part of me."

"Well, how's this: I'd like to agree with that, but I need to see the rate at which you'll be healing first?" It was the best Declan could offer in the circumstances. "I would love to let you go home as soon as you take the antidote, but we just need to monitor it and make sure you've gained enough strength back to go home first."

Declan nodded; he could definitely understand what she was saying. "Yeah, it's really important for people to remember that no matter what they do, everyone's human." He shrugged. "Everyone has their own emotions and their own ways of dealing with things, and it's important for people to respect that, whether it's negotiator to crazy person broken out of the psych ward, healer to patient, or... anyone else, really."

He laughed at her next comment. "Well then, we might just have to see about that one. I'll take you to some of my favorite places, and you can take me to yours."

The admission that she was an Animagus surprised him, and he said, "Wow. Definitely wasn't expecting that. I heard those were really hard. How long did it take you to study that?" he asked, impressed.

Kelly dramatically sighed, but honestly she wasn't expecting any different. "Alright. I think that's reasonable."

She was just sooo antsy to get out of there.

That idea suggested, she went back to the conversation they were having. "Exactly."

Well, it was really good that he understood. Lots of people tended to disagree, and actually argue with her. There was always the 'what about'...Kelly honestly didn't care, what they did. They weren't doing it to her, right then, and therefore, she would treat them with respect. The end. Period.

"That sounds like a good plan. I'm not really a city girl though. Just warning you. It doesn't hold my attention as much as it probably should."

As for speaking on her animagus, Kelly just laughed, "Yeaaaars." She answered, "I needed something to challenge me during the first three years of my career. There's nothing hard with fetching coffee and making phone calls."

She just wanted to do something for herself. "It...was hard. And frustrating. I gave up maybe half a dozen times, but I would just go back to it because... I don't like being a quitter. Apparently it's a bit more than just mental readiness."

Emotional, too. That then brought her to the question of...if she became her fox, would she be able to just skip out of there? Of course not. Her fox-self would be just as weak as her human-self. But still, it was a good thought.

"I think that's reasonable too," Declan said.

He honestly really liked her ideas towards treating everyone with respect. Declan knew better than a lot of people that some were unfairly discriminated against. He personally believed that Death Eaters got a very bad rap for not such a great reason.

"All right. Well maybe my new mission should be to turn you into more of a city girl," Declan replied.

"And years... wow. That's quite a long time. I take it you like a challenge? I mean, you had to have, to have completed it. So few people actually get it done. Although I'm curious - what do you mean by 'more than mental readiness'?" he asked. "I didn't realize there was another part to it, exactly." He really liked that he pretty much go to learn something new - whether it was about her or just in general - every time they talked.

Kelly rolled her eyes, "Oh pleaaaaase. You can try, but I swear you won't do a good job of it. I can blend in like the best of them but outside in cities is not even close to...well you know what, you can just come with me, you'll see for yourself. And then, we can just agree to disagree. Isn't that wonderful?"

She smiled cheerfully, and then reiterated, "I don't dislike the city. I'm just not in love with it. Just like you said about the kind of people who don't care about storms."

"And, I'm sure you can find an even better mission to do to me." She shrugged.

Then he was back asking questions about her animagus, and she replied, "I needed something to keep me busy, yes. A challenge is always a good thing. And like I said, I gave up a few times before going back and finally becoming her. And I know, that's why I chose that to keep me busy. Because not everyone could do it."

When he asked about her comment on the readiness of it, Kelly was silent for a few seconds, formulating her answer.

"I guess the only way to explain that would be through explaining...a little history. When I graduated from Hogwarts, I went home, and took a part-time internship at the Ministry. I wasn't really sure, exactly, what I wanted to do. At that point, I was doing what was suggested for me. And...I guess you know about Sebastian..."

She blushed a little bit, but then just decided whatever. She was more embarrassed about actually...hallucinating and believing, than that he was there during it.

"I regret to say I was a typical little school girl. Young and in love. When, really, I was holding onto the safe and normal, because everything else was changing. I was just in love with the idea of being in love, wanting my own little fairytale, you know?" Again, she rolled her eyes. Yes, she knew how stupid that was. She still felt ridiculous about putting up with that for so long.

"It wasn't at all close to that. Anyways, I was only studying to become an animagus when I wasn't at work, or helping my siblings with something, or cleaning up after Sebo, and even while doing that, I was worrying about something I had to do, or making sure no one was suffocating because they were too inebriated to lay on their sides to sleep and what not. So emotionally, I wasn't invested in it, until three years later. That was just me personally, I'm not really sure how it works with other people. But it's been useful."

Amaris was in need of caffeine. A desperated need for caffeine. It was a habit she was trying to kick, but alas she resorted back to it. She always did, and even though she prided herself at being able to withstand enormous amounts of pressure, this was just too bizarre a situation for her to simply take and move on. She was an auror for goodness' sake. Well actually she was still only a trainee, seeing as how she transferred from the Headquarters in Spain and hadn't been given a proper instruction yet. God, that whole meeting with Reyen seemed too far off into the distace for it to have been today.

And to think that Amaris had met up with her sister again, not only that but Maria was also at risk of dying. Dying. . . It was too much for her pretty little head. Hence the coffee she was currently buying in the cafeteria. Actually, it looked to be the only edible thing in this cafeteria. . .wait no she lied, the packaged muffins did look a little bit appealing. Amaris picked it up and looked at it, before decided against it and putting it back.

I don't think I can honestly eat anything without throwing right back up she thought to herself.

She went to pay for her coffee and decided that some pecuniary compensations might be necessary. She started to pull out some knuts and sickles out of her money bag when, just her luck, the whole thing fell on the floor. The coins made a clinking noise as metal and silver, maybe perhaps even gold (Amaris didn't like to travel with money), made contact with the tile. Amaris groaned and took a deep breath, almost debating as to whether or not just leave the money there.

This is not my day

Brandin was sitting at the table, holding a cup of coffee and perusing the catalog in front of him. Furniture was perhaps a strange interest, but him and Catalina were buying a new house obviously, and he had to do something to pass the time. Abi was sleeping, and she'd been mad enough at him for...well, he'd been told by an Acolyte that it was actually one of the phases, so he just ignored her outburst, and left her alone after that. He enjoyed furnishing. Particularly when it came to buying the intriguing and eclectic, though stately furniture pieces, for it was the offbeat knick knack things that made a house a home, instead of an odd assortment of bits and ends and uselessly mismatched furniture for somewhat functional purposes with people living in the house. No. He was making a home with Catalina.

And a home required proper furniture. So no, he was not at all bored, even if he was sitting there flipping a catalog. He looked up, however, at the sign of money falling to the ground and a rather upset woman looking at them with a mild disinterest. Immediately standing, Brandin walked over and knelt down with mild disregard for his appearance and pristine clothing, before gathering up what appeared to be runaway sickles and extending them to her with his usual charming smile.

"Good evenin', Miss. I believe you dropped these?"

While Amaris was busy contemplating the pros and cons of leaving the money exactly where it was, there was somebody already there, picking up the fallen coins. Already Amaris felt embarassed and idiotic. In fact she felt more idiotic today, in a mere four hours than she had ever felt in her whole entire life. Except for that one time in Spain, and that it is one subject she was determined not to bring forth from the murky deep waters of her subconscious.

"You believe correctly." She took the coins from him with an answering smile. If it was any other day, any other situation she would have probably noticed his dashing good looks, and possibly would have attempted to flirt. But of course, it wasn't any other day. It was today. And today was turning out to be rather impossible. She really needed that coffee. She turned around briefly to pay for her coffee with a small, and possibly forced, thank you.

Oh, gratitude. She vaguely remembered she didn't actually thank the man. Amaris turned around to the man who had saved her coins and had saved her from making a decision which would have seemed pretty easy to a normal person, then again she wasn't normal today, not at all.

"I thank you Mr. . .", she said while extending her hand and then noticing that it was currently occupied with a rather large cup of coffee, and so she quickly transferred her cup to her other hand. Wonderful. . .today is make-a-fool-out-of-Amaris day. I seemed to have missed the memo.

Brandin was slightly confused at first, although he still kept the bemused and innocent grin in place. It wasn't that she was smiling or answering that confused him. Rather, the fact that she was trying to give him her coffee. She seemed to realize that a moment later, for she took her hand back and swapped the cup before re-extending it to shake. Ah. So, something was clearly on her mind. What it was, he wasn't sure...but he was entertaining himself internally as he grinned and murmured, "It's Brandin. Brandin Faye. Pleased to meet you Ms...." with the possibilities.

Facts being; she was in the hospital, she was being a bit shaky, so the patient couldn't be healed quite yet, and given the state of how many were in the hospital under this Virus, he could make the fair assumption that she was either related to or connected with one of the poor victims. He was at least sixty percent sure that this was the case, and he'd bet with those odds any day.

"Are you all right? Is there something I can do to help?" He indicated his table a few feet off; the catalog still open to the shopping, and his own coffee sitting beside it. He flicked a genial easy smile while continuing, "I have a lemon bar?"

His cheeks flushed as they always did when he was enjoying himself in this manner. Still grinning easily and "awkwardly", he nodded towards the chair. "At least sit down..." What? He was curious.

Amaris noticed that she seemed to be getting a lot of what she would call charming smiles today. But it was this man's smile that she could honestly describe as sincere, or maybe having the intention of being sincere. Needless to say Amaris was somewhat intrigued (she rarely encounters nice people so naturally she doesn't believe there are any...at all) but not enough to stop her from embarassing herself. Amaris recollected her thoughts, as much as she could, before replying to his, well not exactly a question but a leading sentence... Oh so her thoughts weren't collected still. Brilliant.

"Tudor. Amaris Tudor." she completed, thanking him again with a small nod before she made a move to turn around. Except Brandin was already asking her if she was "all right". God how she hated that question. Bless his soul for trying though. She bit the inside of her cheek to keep from letting out a snarky and rude response. "Well seeing as how I am in fact in a hospital it is needless to say Mr. Faye, that no I'm not completely all right."

Okay, she didn't bite down hard enough.

She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose, urging her head to stop thumping so loudly. She was about to yell, and she didn't feel like getting escorted out of the building, although it would give some people an entertainment during these languish events. "I apologize, I'm a little bit stressed," oh that was an underestimation, "Thank you for your concern." she looked at the lemon bar and all of a sudden she wished she had bought that muffin.

Oh well, he did offer.

"I think I do need to sit down actually." she sighed as she sat down and took a sip of the coffee, only flinching slightly at the bitter taste and the hot temperature. This was the only way to drink it, if it was going to work at all. And then she saw a rather particularly odd object lying open on the table. She couldn't help but to seem slightly puzzled.

"Furniture catalogue?"

Brandin blinked in concern as she steadied herself and stopped himself from putting his arms out to catch her. She seemed to be doing all right on her own; Ms. Tudor did indeed seem capable. He had no desire to interfere with that. So he stayed silent, bemused and interested as he took his own seat, after ensuring she sat before him. Manners dictated that, of course.

Keeping his hands folded and his chair neatly tucked back, Brandin somehow appeared entirely at ease. "Oh it's all right, and, well, I'm sorry to hear that. Am I able to offer you something, Miss Tudor? A..." He cast his eyes as though he was looking for something.

"A cup of coffee? Another pastry; an ear?" He paused, however, hearing her inquiry and let a simple amused grin flash across his lips. "Oh!" He blinked and smiled idly- saying in a rather throwaway manner, "I'm looking to furnish the house my fiance and I are looking at, thats all."
