When Kelly laid her head on his shoulder, it was Declan's natural reaction to slide a gentle arm around her shoulders, both helping her stay upright and keeping her close to him. He knew it had probably been a bad idea to take her out of her room, but at least her fears seemed to be assuaged a bit. Maybe it was good for her in that respect, although it almost certainly wasn't good for her in a physical respect. She was exhausted, so he figured it might be a good idea to let her sit for a little while before heading back down. Maybe she'd get a second wind and want to eat more or something. "Your stomach's tired?" he asked, a note of amusement in his voice. "I suppose I can understand that," he said. "Do you want to wait a bit and see if you get hungry again?" He didn't know when she was going to have the energy to make it up to the cafeteria again, after all. |

Kelly breathed out for a second when his arm went around her, but she decided it was alright, so therefore, it was alright. Paranoia was all in the brain. So maybe her brain was telling her to be careful, to be worried, but she had enough common sense - and maybe stupidity - to go against whatever would be 'smart' and just let things be. "Yes, my stomach is tired. You don't hear it growling do you? And it's all 'lemme alone'! Can't you hear that?" Kelly rolled her eyes good naturally, looking at the soup. Soup was something that you really had to want to eat, to her. It wasn't a regular meal, it wasn't solid food, and everyone just considered it 'sick' food. You eat soup when you're sick. So she was eating it to be eating it, but in actuality, she didn't really...want to be eating it. She'd really only said she was hungry so that she could get out of the room. "I want to wait a lot." Kelly then agreed, smiling a bit. "Because I don't really want to go back to that room." At least she was being honest, right? She didn't really think she was going to be hungry again; not with her stomach rebelling at the fear she might be being poisoned, or what not, and even though laying down seemed like a really great idea right now? She was so...tired, of just laying there, bored, sick, by herself, doing nothing. And besides, on the seat, she had wheels. If someone tried to hurt her, she could somehow move. In the bed, she was practically helpless. And she was totally losing muscle tone. Kelly sighed; she'd have to put in a lot of hours at the gym for this. Stupid Beatrice. At least she wasn't gaining weight? |

"What, you think I can hear silence?" Declan asked, amused. "But since I don't hear any growling, I suppose I can believe that it's just tired." In a way, Declan was trying not to admit to himself that he was glad she wanted to wait. But... why wouldn't he be glad? His patient was feeling well enough to be out of her room for a bit, and she had attempted to eat. And so far? She was keeping it down. It had nothing to do with the fact that he was sitting with his arm around her. Nothing at all. "All right. We can wait as long as you want," he said. He was racking his brain, trying to think of something to talk about that wasn't depressing or about the virus, but it wasn't like anything else had happened to her within the past couple of weeks, and he had basically been living at Mungo's and not really dealing with much else either. "So did you get someone to take care of your cat?" he asked. It was the only thing he could think of, really. |

Kelly shrugged, "Silence is so damn loud." Really. People were so used to hearing some kind of noise every second of their days, whether it be the rustling of pages turning, people talking, music, car horns...anything, really. So did anyone really know what silence sounded like? Unless you were all alone in a room, nothing moving, nothing on, and you did not breathe, and it, her heart would still make the noise. Pounding. Was there even such thing as silence you could hear? "It is very tired." She then smiled, seeing as he was allowing her to stay there 'as long as she wanted'. Which, clearly wouldn't be too long. She couldn't sit up for a whole lot of time more. When he asked about her cat though? Kelly bit her lip, her forehead furrowing as she mumbled, "Chris said he took care of it but...but he probably didn't. He's just a kitten I found on my doorstep.." |

Although the statement was an oxymoron, Declan couldn't agree more. "Silence is loud," he agreed. "Also 'golden', apparently. Sometimes tangible. So really, I suppose that although it really only involves hearing, other senses can be attributed to it as well," he said lightly. He had thought he was doing so well with getting her away from the paranoia, but it seemed to be hinting at coming back when she thought that Chris probably wasn't really feeding her cat. "No, I'm pretty sure he's been leaving to go do it." Actually, he had no idea. But he wasn't about to tell Kelly that. It'd be better if she thought her cat was being taken care of. He was pretty sure people get kind of attached to their pets. "You found him on your doorstep? Well that's pretty lucky. Is he a good cat? Sometimes strays aren't always that friendly." He figured if he could get her talking about something else, it would help distract her from the paranoia. |

Kelly just laughed, "And ducktape is silver." Right. Well. Back onto her kitty. "Chris said he would have someone do it, I'm assuming one of my siblings, I really doubt he himself would be leaving to take care of my cat when he's trying to kill me." It was the only thing that really made sense to her, why Chris wasn't making something on the side, why he was one of the remaining two standing. Why he got married and didn't tell her. Why the first thing he said to her when he came into the room was 'do you know each other', suspiciously. Not even a hi, how are you doing? It's not to see you, it's been forever, how's life? But she liked talking about her pet, and she explained, "People dump litters of kittens they can't take care of in rivers and on streets all the time, and I guess mine just got out, and ended up at my door. I call it coincidence, some people call it fate. He's a really loyal little one, I guess, because he was really small and malnourished when I finally opened the door. He's just a baby." Drago was a mischievous cat, that was for sure. He loved to play. |

"Well, then I'm sure your cat is being taken care of," Declan tried to assure her. She had mentioned Chris trying to kill her again, which Declan knew to be very untrue. Honestly, he was surprised she seemed to be more suspicious of her own twin brother than of him. If she knew who he really was, Declan was quite sure that wouldn't be the case. "He sounds like a good pet," he said. "What's his name?" He had known she had a cat, yes, but he couldn't remember if she had mentioned him by name. Or, if she had, what that name was. "I've never actually had a pet of my own. Healers keep a lot of hours, and I didn't think I'd have time to take care of one," he said, making conversation. He figured that as long as they were there, they might as well get to know each other better. |

Kelly blinked. Maybe. Maybe her cat was being taken care of. Or maybe he was fending for himself. She thought she did leave the window open. And there was a tree outside. He could hunt, the little thing could be vicious when he wanted to be, even though when she'd first gotten him, the mice were just as big as he was, practically. He would be okay, she hoped. "Drago. He's my little dragon." She named him for his personality, and she admitted, "I was so used to living with at least three other people in the house at one time, it got pretty lonely by myself once I got my own flat. So, he was kind of a blessing." "So it's not that you don't like animals, you just don't have one because you didn't think you'd be able to give it the care it needed? Fish are pretty non-time-consuming..." She laughed a little bit. |

"I like the name," Declan said. "But you know, normally when people want company they get a dog. Aren't cats generally loners?" he asked. He had grown up with pets around. One of his brothers really liked animals, considering they had grown up in the country right next to a farm. Declan just wasn't into the whole country life thing, so he'd moved to London after graduating Hogwarts. "That's right. And I just never really wanted one. I didn't want to have to remember to go home and feed it and stuff." He shrugged. "I like to be able to stay gone for a few days without anything depending on me to take care of it." |

"Thank you." Kelly said, before pausing, "Well. I'm really not a dog person unless they are big, huge teddy bears. And my landlord won't let me have one. She's a cat lady, so she was okay with me keeping him. And I didn't really choose a pet, he chose me." As for cats being loners? "That depends on the cat. They're usually self-efficent if you just let them live on their own outside, but cats that grow up with families tend to want more attention. Cuddling and stuff. Drago cuddles when he feels I need it, but the rest of the time just leaves everything alone." She shifted and then pointed out, "So. Are you strictly talking about animals, or do you mean all living things?" |

"Well, then he'll probably grow up to be a cuddly cat," Declan said. "And no, I'm strictly talking about animals. I think that humans are all right to leave for a few days," he laughed. And then he felt it. A burning sensation on his left arm that could only mean one thing. He sat up straighter, taking his arm away from Kelly's shoulders, fighting the urge to grab his arm. It was just a reflex, and he knew it wouldn't do anything but draw suspicion to him. He was practiced enough not to make a face when it happened, but his posture did stiffen a bit. "Kelly, I'm really sorry. I have to go. I just... remembered I have some patients on the fourth floor that need to be checked on," he said apologetically. He looked over and gestured to the nearest Acolyte to help Kelly out before leaving the cafeteria. As soon as he was out of sight, he Disapparated to the Dark Lord's side. |

"Probably." And that's what Kel wanted. What fun was it to have a cat who didn't like you? Kelly then shrugged when he said humans were fine to leave, and teased, "Well you never know. You could be a hermit or something outside of Mungo's. I wanted to make sure." But his laughter stopped, and he stiffened, moving away from her, and her hand went to the arm rest on her chair to pull her up so she could see what the matter was. She was literally looking all around her for some kind of reason for him to just pull away like that, but she saw nothing. Absolutely nothing. His answer didn't add up, and she watched him hurry off before looking at her tray. He was...just leaving her there. Leaving her in the midst of a whole bunch of people who were sick, or wanted to hurt her. Her hands started trembling, and she literally jumped when some guy dressed similar to Declan ended up on her side, muttering something about taking care of her and on break, only raising his voice to say 'Let's take you back to the room.' But Kelly just curled into the chair, opposite side of him, and tried to breathe. "Don't. Don't, go away, I don't need to be taken care of. " Merlin, this was what she was so scared of; her fingers were gripping the wheelchair so hard, they were white. When the acolyte, clearly tired and annoyed, pointed out that 'Healer Clemens told me to take care of you, and I think it best for you to go back to bed.' Declan...told them to take care of her? Is that why he stiffened? Because he realized she was going to be dying under orders and time was being wasted? Kelly was pretty good at picking out lies, and 'patients on the fourth floor' didn't sound honest to her. So. The acolyte didn't try to keep her calm until he noticed that she was literally shaking, and tears were running down her face, and he realized she was one of the virus patients. The acolyte took his hands off the wheelchair and held them up, so she could see he meant no harm, and bit his lip; he was newer, he wasn't told how to handle patients like this. 'Hey, hey don't cry, it's okay...' Yet, every time he tried to talk her down and assure her he was just bringing her back to bed, she just freaked out more, and finally he just went off to find a healer to take care of her, leaving her be with the other cafeteria patients. |

When Declan got back, he first checked Kelly's room, figuring someone would have brought her back down. Unfortunately, she wasn't there. That could either be good because she wanted to keep eating and sitting up. Or it could be very, very bad because the moron he'd grabbed to take care of her wasn't doing his job. So he headed back up to the cafeteria, where he found Kelly, no Acolyte in sight, looking extremely nervous. He went straight to her, not even bothering to look for the idiot he'd left her with. Kneeling down in front of the wheelchair to be more at her level, he said, "I'm so sorry I had to leave. But the patients are all taken care of. Are you all right? Where's the Acolyte?" |

Kelly had been sitting with her tea in her lap, not drinking it, just having the scent there and the warmth against her hands. It was calming. She'd nearly split it just getting it where it was, she was trembling so much, but she managed, and sometime between when the acolyte left and now, she'd reached some kind of calmness. Sort of. It was a very shaky calm, and it collapsed the moment Declan showed up in front of her. Her hands tightened around the tea, and her face was clearly struggling with something. "He left to get someone else to take care of me because he couldn't do it either." She answered him, glancing at his face and then looking away, scared as to what she might see. Clearly, she thought the words 'take care of' meant kill off, not make sure they were okay. She wasn't going to answer his question, but she couldn't help snapping, "Well I'm not in the morgue yet, so I guess that's a good thing no one can go through with it." And all his fourth-floor patients? Where were they now? Hmmm? |

Declan sighed. Leaving her with the first random explanation that popped into his head had clearly brought back the paranoia in a full onslaught. He wished he'd had some other way to deal with the situation, but he hadn't had any other choice. When the Dark Lord called, he had to be there. It was that simple. He laid his hands on top of hers, trying to help her relax. "Hey, of course you're not in the morgue," he said soothingly. "No, because I'm not going to let that happen to you. I just had some patients who needed their medication checked at a very specific time, and I was running late. You know how potions can be sometimes - very precise in their timing." Lies, but at least he knew how to be convincing about it. "So I'm here now, and I'm not going to leave you unless you want me to. I'm going to make sure you stay safe." |

Kelly stiffened when he touched her, looking at his hands. Just because, when his were over hers, she couldn't see hers anymore. After a few seconds of them just being there, doing nothing else, she looked up, and watched his mouth instead. Because he was speaking, and it was just, right there. Her expression soured when he said potions were very precise in timing - she knew that all too well, didn't she? There were days between the phases, but they were a specific number each time. And, she always was done with one symptom and on to the next. "I know." She answered, taking a deep breath. Then she lifted her chin and asked, "Why?" Why was he going to stay and make sure she's safe, and make sure she didn't go to the morgue? Was there any point? |

Well, at least her next question was one that Declan could tell her the truth for. "Why wouldn't I want to keep you safe?" he asked. Well, honestly? That probably wasn't the best question to ask Kelly while she was very likely to make up reasons as to why he was actually trying to kill her. So he decided to keep talking. "But really - I like you, Kelly. I'd like to get to know you better once you're healed and out of here," he told her truthfully. "I really enjoyed your company when we met and went out that time, and I want to get to know you better." Oh right. And there was that whole 'he didn't want his patients to die' thing. "And, I want to do my best job as a Healer, and that includes ensuring your safety. You have nothing to worry about - I'm going to make sure you get healed." |

Now that the apparent panick of being 'taken care of' had passed, Kelly was realizing that she was being ridiculous - and selfish. She was keeping him to herself, when he had other patients. Of course he had other patients, three-fourths of the Mungo's staff was sick as well, and he was probably exhausted, and here, she was needing reassurance after reassurance. Kel was usually rather laid back and trusting; she didn't really understand her fear, and her paranoia, and never really experiencing that without the adrenaline involved was a whole new concept. She hadn't a clue how to control it, even though she knew she was lashing out. And he'd done nothing but give her what she wanted, or at least give her the chance, and try to make her happy. And here she was, practically begging to be told he'd take care of her, he'd make sure she lived, he'd keep her safe. In all honesty, she was pretty disgusted with herself, but she couldn't stop. It was impulsive, things just happened to her body, just slipped out of her mouth. And she was pretty sure it was another phase. At this point, it had to be. "Oh god. I"m so sorry. I'm- I don't even know why I am = I can't like, stop, these..." Kelly didn't know how to explain it, and already she was distracted and nervous by some other acolyte passing her by. She could feel her heart pounding, and she literally forced herself to look away and look at Declan. She was okay. She was just fine. Deep breaths. Can you please just believe what he's saying for two bloody seconds...Kelly shifted, glancing at his hands again. "Okay." Okay, okay, good enough, she'd reestablished he wasn't trying to kill her, that she was a selfish little brat, and that she had no control over her reactions. Wonderful. Hesitantly, she added, "You don't think I'm just another crazy bitch, after all this, and you'd rather skip out on dinner? Because I'd totally understand if you did, and you're just saying that to try to calm me down." She was biting her lip again, really, really hating how she sounded right then. |

Declan, sincerely amused, laughed softly. "Please, don't be sorry. I don't know if you've noticed, but everyone in here is acting the same way," he said. "It's part of the virus - some sort of paranoia, I think." Declan's personal theory was that the virus was messing with their hormones, because hormones controlled emotions. Or maybe the fever was causing some swelling in partso of the brain. If he had more time, he might feel the urge to run some tests. As it was, he was barely getting the bare minimum with his rounds done. "I don't think you're crazy, and I'm most certainly still interested in going to dinner with you," he said, smiling. "And I'm not just saying that. I want to get to know you better." Thinking about it for a moment, he decided to try to distract her from her paranoia and maybe get to work on getting to know her. "So we have time now. You said you want to stay here, and I'm perfectly happy to stay here with you. So why don't you tell me something interesting about yourself." |

Kelly had to smile a little bit when he was laughing, but her smile faded when she understood what he was saying. Yes, it was the virus, and she definitely wasn't the only one feeling like this. That kind of grounded her for a minute, and that intense hate of the virus and what it was doing to her just grew, and grew. It didn't really matter if she realized what was going on; she could now be mortified and try to stop it, but she couldn't. She couldn't, because it was controlling her body, and she had no say in it. She groaned, tugging one hand free to pull it through her hair. It was already piecey; she had been doing that a lot. "Well I think I'm crazy." She blinked open her eyes again and just sighed. She was so sick of being sick. She'd been sick so long she didn't even remember what it was like not having to battle with yourself. So. Freaken. Ridiculous. She looked at him and tried to think of an answer for her question. He already knew she was one of seven, that she had a cat, that she didn't eat meat, she loved weird teas, she took mixed martial arts, she worked at the ministry... "I...love the sunshine, but I possibly love big storms more. Huge, rolling black clouds, torrential rains, lightening and thunder. And...sitting outside during it. I don't mind getting wet." She shrugged. |
