"...Girls." Daniel mumbled under his breath. He was fully aware that Iriki was able to hear him. "You demand much." "I thought being married, to me, would be enough for you Iriki." But he had already started planning the ceremony to make her happy. |

6 days later ----------- Iriki had packed the last of her bags. "Daniel, this was beautiful... thank you so much." she whispered, kissing him on the neck. "That was... thank you." |

Matthew waited in the lobby of the lavish hotel, reveling at being out in public and not having to be disguised. No one knew who he was in Italy. He wasn't wanted there as he was in both France, where he had been staying, and England. He sat at the bar of the restaurant in the hotel and waited, sipping a drink peacefully, till he could spot Carter. He had himself in plain sight so he would be easy for Tristan to find, though he had his guard up, ready to use both traditional magic and monotones if the need arose. |

Tristan walked into the lobby of the hotel, looking around for his anonymous informant. It took him a moment, but he certainly wasn't hard to spot: Matthew Berenson was just sitting around with not a care in the world. Tristan wasn't entirely sure if the hotel was a Muggle hotel or a Wizarding one, so he avoided drawing his wand. Instead, he approached Matthew. "What did you want?" he asked, his hand gripped around his wand in his pocket. He would be ready to attack if Matthew did, but he figured it might not be a bad idea to get some information before he arrested him. |

Matthew merely shrugged and sipped his drink again. He wasn't afraid of Tristan: in fact, not many people were a good match against him, to be perfectly honest. That wasn't him being arrogant; it was simply the truth. "So I suppose she hasn't told you yet,' he said, being purposely vague. He knew that Abi hadn't told Tristan about their little...bargain yet, considering that Tristan was not a very complicated person to read. If he had found out that Matthew had slept with Abi, Tristan would not have been so cautious about not attacking. Well well, this could turn out to be quite amusing, and Matthew didn't often have a chance to do something more fun that still accomplished his goals. |

Tristan sighed. He honestly couldn’t stand Matthew at all. He knew the man was being extremely vague on purpose, and he had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. Either way, he had complete faith in his wife, so whatever Matthew was going to say wouldn’t shock him in the slightest. He was probably just trying to get at the fact that Abi, under the influence of the bonding potion, had given information to the Death Eaters. Well, wouldn’t Matthew be surprised when his so-called “new information” didn’t shock Tristan. Oh, this was going to be good. Actually, this was probably going to be better than attacking him, although Tristan did still want to do that as well. Merlin, what a day. He was actually considering himself lucky at that point: first he could get the satisfaction he was looking for when Matthew found out that his information meant nothing. Then he could get a good fight in (because at the moment, Tristan was finding his life to be terribly lazy), and then, if all went well, he could hopefully arrest a man who was possibly a Death Eater and who definitely had ties to Anonymous. Not to mention… if he brought in Matthew, he would have succeeded in the mission assigned to him. Yes, this was definitely going to be a good day. “And what, exactly, do you suppose she hasn’t told me?” Tristan asked, resisting the urge to throw in an eye roll. He knew he sounded smug, but why shouldn’t he? Matthew had nothing on him, and he would rather let the man know that up front. Who knew? Maybe it would startle him a little. “I really do think you’re losing your touch a little,” Tristan said, assuming an expression that quite displayed how bored he was with the conversation. Of course, he wasn’t bored with it at all, but he would rather Matthew thought he was. After all, if what Matthew was saying didn’t affect him, it wouldn’t be as fun for the older man to taunt him. “Abi and I are just fine, and I’m sure there’s nothing she isn’t telling me.” This he said confidently, as he had no reason to doubt himself on anything. Abi was his wife, and she didn’t hide things from him, just as he didn’t hide anything from her. He figured they had both learned their lesson in trust after what had happened last April. He had actually thought for a little while that they couldn’t fix their relationship. Luckily he was wrong, but the fight had gone on for so long and scared him so much that he had learned his lesson quite well: neither he nor Abi would be hiding things from the other anymore. Depending on the severity of exactly what it was they were hiding, it could severely damage their relationship, and that was something that Tristan was hell-bent on not doing. He and Abi had had their problems in the past, and he wanted it to stay in the past. After all, they were about to have a baby, work was getting more stressful, and his Quidditch training started up again soon, so they were going to have enough on their plates without letting some jerk like Matthew get to them. |

Matthew just laughed and shook his head. Merlin, the Auror wasn’t very bright, was he? Actually, Matthew could quite easily categorize Tristan: he was one of those stupid Quidditch players that girls fawned over for their looks. Well, he couldn’t be that stupid if he was an Auror, but Matthew really did doubt the intelligence a little. Maybe he just lacked common sense. Either way, he was going to enjoy stirring up Tristan’s personal life a bit. He almost laughed out loud to himself, picturing Carter’s face as he informed him that he slept with his precious wife. Actually, it almost seemed too easy to mess with that relationship. And it was this thought he was currently pondering as he stood, silent, for a moment to purposely annoy the man in front of him. It was quite easy to remember back to last May’s switch of Tristan and that guy from the other world, Chris or whatever. One simple memory potion was all it took to send Abi into a world of confusion, and for a little while she had actually even believed that the wrong man was her real husband. Some relationship that was. Besides that, while Emma was under the bond, he remembered getting information out of her about Abi and Tristan’s near split last April because of cheating… with Blu and her fiancé, if he remembered correctly. It was interesting how they all seemed to stay within the same circles, wasn’t it? Well, to him it certainly was. But back to the Auror: it hadn’t taken Matthew long after Abi being bonded to realize that he could do some serious damage with the information. He had suspected that she wouldn’t tell her husband about their little bargain, and from there he could see how it would be easy to plant seeds of doubt in Tristan’s mind. Then Tristan would go confront her about the whole thing, and just like that the two of them would be rather distracted, perhaps too distracted to do their jobs to the best of their abilities, which was what Matthew was counting on. If not, he had a backup plan. He didn’t, however, think he would need it for Tristan or Abi. After all, they seemed easy enough to distract with petty problems, as most of that department were. It actually made him a bit upset to see how the place had gone downhill since he and Adieus had been in charge. Lynx and Abi were just too inexperienced to take over when they did, even though Adieus’ arrest and his undercover mission hadn’t left them much choice. Who knew? Maybe, if he could clear his name, he could start over. Maybe he could get the Department back in shape as Adieus would have wanted. Of course, that wasn’t want he wanted, and he knew it. Actually, Matthew had grown to detest the idea of being tied down to a side. Right now, his only plan in motion was to clear his name. And for that, he needed to proceed. “Ah, I should have wagered on yours and your wife’s excellent communication skills,” Matthew said, mockingly apologetic. Oh, this was going to be good. “After all, why wouldn’t she have told you that she and I had a little affair while she was bonded to David Morvanna?” He had to specify that it was David, not himself, to whom she was bonded, so it emphasized the fact that she was not under any orders to do so. He stood still and waited for Tristan’s reaction. |

Tristan just waited as Matthew talked. Yes, he and Abi did have quite good communication, thank you very much. He had no idea what Matthew could possibly want to say to him, but he could rest assured just knowing that Matthew would get no satisfaction from whatever it was he was going to tell him. No, Tristan was absolutely confident that he knew that there was nothing Abi was hiding from him. At least, that was what he had thought before Matthew’s last statement. “You’re lying,” he said at first, trying his best to keep his cool and sound as confident as he thought he had felt just a few short moments ago. “Abi would never touch you no matter what potion she was under.” He knew that he was speaking out of anger now, not actual belief, which was what really scared him. He was still frantically repeating in his mind, She couldn’t have done it. She couldn’t have done it. But how sure could he be? After all, the potion did reverse morality, and if Abi turned as evil as she was good, that could not have been good news for him or their relationship. So he could understand that her evil self might have detested him. What he couldn’t understand was, if it had happened, why she hadn’t told him. The thought made him angry that she could have possibly slept with Matthew and not told him. He couldn’t think of any reason why she wouldn’t. She couldn’t have… liked it. Right? No, of course not. The thought was absurd, and he absolutely could not even give it any more thought. But why wouldn’t she have told him? Sure, he was stuck on that question, and he might be making assumptions that she had actually slept with him, but if she had… It was a big deal. It was a huge deal. How could she have not told him? That was the only thought repeating in his mind. He wasn’t even sure it was the act itself he’d be mad about when compared to the fact that it had actually been months and she hadn’t told him about it yet. Did she really think she would just keep him in the dark about sleeping with another man forever? He was still clinging to the desperate hope that Matthew actually was lying as he had accused him of doing. He wished he could be more sure of himself and of Abi. Well, he knew he could be sure of Abi, but of Abira? Well, that was an entirely different story. Actually, if it was true his entire world would be turned upside down because Abi, his wife, wouldn’t have told him about what happened, and that thought was amazingly upsetting. It was so upsetting that he actually preferred not to think about it for the moment and drew his wand. At least he could arrest Matthew as was his mission. Unfortunately, Matthew only smirked at Tristan smugly and shimmered away, leaving no trace that he had ever been there. Enraged, Tristan turned on his heel and walked out of the hotel to apparate back to… Noel Designs. He had to talk to Abi. |
