Edward didn`t answer her. He simply sat silently, his eyes still stabbed at the fireplace. Maybe he was wrong. Maybe he wasn`t ready for a relationship. Not after what happened with his both last ones. Both killed by their sons. Pretty ironic.

Hearing her goodbye, he didn`t let himself react. He must have been wrong even about himself. He so was not ready for a relationship. Yes, he could care about Julianna a lot. He cared about her more than he did for himself. But obviously she needed something else. Or someone else, who he was not.

From the very beggining he knew that this wouldn`t work out. He shouldn`t have even bothered. Putting his face in his hands he let himself sit like that for some time. Until he realized that her leaving actualy hurt him.

Standing up quickly he shook his head. "This is ridiculus." he breathed out and walked out of the room. How was he supposed to handle this?

Everything had calmed down now. He and Elisabeth pretended that nothing actually happened. That she was still there, not because she came from the past, but as if she never left. They never talked about it. Neither they talked about the little problem called 'Julianna'.

Not that Edward forgot her. She was always on his mind, never leaving, never letting him forget. It was stupid, really. He wasn`t supposed to think about her, but he couldn`t help himself. Of course, he blamed everything on her. It was easier. She left when he actually broke down. So, he just kept telling himself that she... didn`t care that much.

Of course, he was constantly reminded of how sick she looked when she left. He was afraid that something might be wrong with her. That she became even worse. But once again he tried to push it all out of his head. He wasn`t supposed to care about her.

Now he was sitting on a comfortable couch, looking at the burning fireplace. He had a glass of red wine in his hand. Damn, once again he was thinking about the wrong things. He hadn`t found a method yet that would be affective enough to let him forget.

Edward tried to concentrate on Elisabeth, who was sitting by the piano, playing it, like she used to in her old days. But he couldn`t help it, he kept wondering how would have things turned out if she hadn`t came back.

Elisabeth`s fingers were running through the white and black keys. She liked to play. It let her relax, and not think about the things that she hated to. The silent music calmed her down, actually letting her to block out everyone elses feelings.

But as the song ended, she pulled her fingers away, and started through the window for a second. It was so white. She liked winter. So still and still beautiful. Second by second she started feeling Edward`s feelings again. he wasn`t happy. He was far away from being happy. But then again... she could barely remember when he was truly happy.

Of course, on the outside he didn`t show his feelings at all. It didn`t bother her - he was always like this. The reason why it didn`t bother her was because she still could easily understand how he was feeling.

With a silent sigh she stood up, walked to the couch and sat down. Picking up her own glass of wine from the small glass table she leaned back, softly resting her head on his shoulder.

There were questions that Elisabeth wanted to ask, but was afraid to. Because of the wordless deal, not to talk about past. Neither of them wanted to remember. And talking about it would only make it harder.

Edward didn`t notice when Elisabeth stopped playing. He was too lost into his thoughts. But as she laid her head on his shoulder he snapped out of it. Putting his hand on her thigh, he stroked his thumb along it rather distracted.

After a second though he sighed and looked at her. She was... perfect. Far more beautiful than many other women, smart, sophisticated and she understood him. He knew that he shouldn`t want anything else. He still loved her - just not the way he used to.

Those two years opened up a hole in him. And with Julianna... he felt how a different life would taste. And he liked it. He liked to be actually... liked back. Of course Elisabeth always said that she did love him, but he knew better. She was only used to him.

Raising up his hand, he brushed his finger down her cheek, his face thoughtful. One year ago he would have given anything up for this second chance to be with her. But now... now something was missing. He wanted more than she could offer.

Elisabeth smiled at Edward as he stroked her face. It wasn`t often, moments like that. He was most of his time 'busy' - locked in the study, thinking. He said he had much work to do, but she knew better. He didn`t do anything lately. It almost seemed like this wasn`t him anymore. Some part of him disappeared.

And yet, still she was sure to stay with him. Yes, she had whole life ahead of her in the past - but now when she knew that she would die... the thought scared her too much. She was afraid to go back. Afraid to face the younger Edward, knowing that not long after he would kill her.

"Edward..." she spoke at last, keeping her voice silent. Maybe it wasn`t a good idea to talk about it, but she had to know if she was planning on staying for a bit longer. "I wanted to ask..." she murmured.

Elisabeth knew what she had to say, but words just didn`t come out of her mouth. She looked down at her wine glass and exhaled. "Where... where are our children?" she almost whispered, afraid that he won`t answer, that he will just stand up and leave. He had done it few times before. He hated to be reminded that this wasn`t real.

As Elisabeth spoke, Edward looked at her. He... didn`t actually care what she would say. He didn`t care about a lot of things lately. Most of the time it was just him and his thoughts. Unspoken words didn`t hurt as much.

And then at her question he felt that he had tensed up. Not that he told her never to speak of it but he liked to pretend that nothing behind those walls existed. It was so damn easier.

But a moment later he realized that he didn`t care that much. He just was too tired of hiding things, trying to make himself forget. So, he breathed out and closed his eyes.

"Thomus... I`m not sure about him. At least I know that he is on the right path, fighting for Pureblood families. That`s all I need to know." he spoke, his voice absent as his thoughts were far away from his words. "As for... Monica." he frowned at the name.

"As far as I know she is living with the son of Hettia... Conner is his name, I believe." he spoke slowly, every single word full of loathe. "She`s an Auror." he said, shaking his head angrily.

"What`s even worse... she and him had adopted a girl." his face darkened even more. "I`m afraid that the damn girl might even be a Muggle." he spat out, hatefully.

Elisabeth smiled, as she heard about Thomus. That was certainly good news. She loved that her son knew what to fight for. Keeping Purebloods in charge was important. That had worked through centuries and she hated these politics nowdays... no, they weren`t all equal. Especially not Mudbloods.

And then she could feel the sudden change in Edward`s feelings, his hate and anger. She got a little bit shocked of the sudden change, so she sat up straight, looking at him with wide eyes. Obviously that Conner person (she was sure that she heard of him, but in her time he was only a little boy) was on the good side. The right side as people called it. Nonsense.

And then the fact that they had adopted a girl that might be a Muggle. It shocked her. Her own daughter could never do that, could she? She was supposed to marry a Pureblood from an old family and carry on with everything.

"No..." she said, shaking her head. "My own daughter will not end up like this!" she said, glaring at one spot.

Edward breathed out, calming down a bit. He knew Elisabeth wouldn`t like it as much as he did. His own child... his own blood... so what if she was only a girl, she was supposed to give birth to a Pureblood and to keep the traditions.

As Elisabeth spoken he glanced at her eyes. "Believe me, I`ve tried many times to change it. Nothing had helped. I`d rather have her dead than like that. But her Auror friends always ended up stopping me. So, I just gave up, claiming that she was not my daughter anymore." he explained, taking a big gulp of his wine.

"I doubt even you being... back could change anything. She was brainwashed, I don`t think there is anything to do now." he confessed angrily.

Elisabeth kept shaking her head all the time when Edward spoke. "No, I won`t deal with that." she almost hissed, narrowing her eyes and pressing her lips to a thight line.

"She is my blood, my flesh, and I will not let her ruin everything what I was fighting for." she spat out, glaring into the fire, searching her mind, trying to find a way. There had to be a way, there always was.

And soon she remembered, her face cleared up, leaving only a small smirk on her lips. "My second cousin on my father`s side was like that..." she spoke slowly, looking at the fire. "She went to be 'good' and said that people were all equal... she married a Mudblood." she spat out that word as if it was tainting her tongue.

"Obviously her parents wouldn`t live on with that. Alice, that was her name, had a child with the Mudblood guy and she had her whole life build up around her. But her parents lured her to her childhood home and slipped her a potion... that made her forget about the life outside the walls of her home." she explained, her tone becoming lighter and almost mocking.

"The potion didn`t erase her memory - there is always a slight chance that she`d be left stupid after erasing memory. She just forgot, like people forget things that aren`t important. As she was back to only knowing her family, her parents soon proved to her that there was only one way of life. They had her married to a Pureblood guy and they both travelled far away - so that Alice wouldn`t accidentaly remember." now Elisabeth was fully smirking.

Twirling the blood red wine in the glass she glanced at Edward once more. "I`m sure I could find a detailed explanation of how to make that potion. And if we will be careful enough... Monica would never remember... we could have her value the right things."

Edward listened to Elisabeth and he could feel how he got interested. He hadn`t been interested in things lately and this was certainly a good change. He wasn`t sure if it would work - nothing had worked before - but it was worth a try. Maybe he wouldn`t have to be so ashamed of his daughter anymore.

And if she would get all that Auror crap out of her head, he was sure that they could find some decent Pureblood that would like to marry her. Hopefully.

"Well... I think we should try it." he said along with a nod. "Because I certainly do want my family to be right." he took another gulp of his drink.

Then he watched how Elisabeth nodded, placed her glass on the table and stood up. Silently she walked out of the room, to look for the recipe of the potion. Edward laid back and closed his eyes. At least something to distract him from his absence.
