Monica took the flowers and placed them down on the bed. That way she didn`t have to move much. As he kissed her hand she ignored it - even if this kind of behavior surprised her. A lot. At his words she nodded again, feeling a huge lump in her throat. If she spoke she was sure to start crying. This could have been Malius. He could have been the one to marry her. He should have been. She closed her eyes tightly, not wanting to start crying in front of Ralston. |

Ralston saw her wanting to cry and trying to remember what Liam said, hold her close. So Ralston did that. He held her close to him and stroked her hair awkwardly. "It will be okay, my dear. I promise, and I am a man of my word." He tried assuring her. |

Maybe that was all what she needed. Someone to show a little bit of gentleness. And she broke. Her shell which kept her safe broke and she didn`t want to be like that anymore. She was sick of feeling all that pain. And so she wrapped her hands around him, holding onto him, just hoping that it would feel better. And she... she started to cry. As awkward as it was, but she couldn`t keep it inside anymore. Her head fell on his shoulder and she tightly closed her eyes, snuggling her face to his shoulder. |

Ralston felt sick with himself... no, not for forcing her to marry him, but because of all this sappy emotion. "Shhhh, it will be fine, Monica. Please, share what is wrong, I wish to help you." He told her, almost smiling that she was able lean on him. |

Monica softly slipped from his shoulder down on his knees and put her head there. She was now lying again, but it didn`t require as much strength as sitting. She was still crying, but now soundlessly, as her eyes were darted in front of her. She would never tell him the truth. She wouldn`t tell the truth to anyone. "I`m scared..." she whispered, her voice hoarse. It felt better than being alone. She knew that this was stupid, but damn! Ralston was the only one left. "I don`t... I don`t think I can do this..." |

Ralston patted her head as if trying to console her. "I promise I won't force you to do anything you aren't prepared for. I promise I will take wonderful care of you. I believe I have started to fall for you." he said, trying to make it sound true. |

Monica listened to his words and realized that she had stopped crying. She didn`t know if there was any truth in his words - but she didn`t care. She was just so sick of the pain inside her, that for a moment words like these calmed her down. Swallowing the lump in her throat she pulled herself up and looked at him. then nodded. "Thank you..." she whispered. |

Ralston reached up and cupped her face, wiping away her tears before holding her where she was. In another moment he was kissed her before pulling away. "My apologies, Monica, I shouldn't have been so forward with my emotions. I jsut wish to make the wolrd better for you." He told her |

Monica softly closed her eyes as he took her face and kissed her. She didn`t respond to it. But she needed it. She needed something what would stop making her feel so alone. And to be honest, this surprised her at last. The fact that Ralston could be gentle. Her mind was swimming. Each time she surprised herself, she forgot about Malius. For a minute or so. And that was such a relief. Besides... she was going to marry him anyway, might as well get used to it. So this time instead of pulling back as he stopped talking... she leaned in and kissed him. Just a kiss on his lips. And yet, that second Malius disappeared form her memory. Good. |

Ralston was surprised, perhaps his daughter in-law was right.... that being gentle would get a woman to respond to you. He stroked her cheek as he kissed her back. He pulled away and shook his head. What was he doing?! "You're sad, my dear, I shouldn't be so upfront with you." |

Monica frowned as he pulled back. She didn`t care what he had to say. If she was kissing him, she wasn`t thinking of Malius. And she was sure that she would do anything just so that she could forget the pain for a minute. And yet she kept silent, just watching him. She was almost sure that she couldn`t even force herself to like this man. But she always could appreciate him. And she realized that it would be enough. It would be enough for him. |

Ralston pulled her close again and kissed her, the desire to feel physical love again was kicking in. He held her close to him as he gently nudged her back. One hand was on the back of her head and the other was holding her hand. He was interested to see when she'd stop him. Monica watched him as he pulled her close again and kissed her. And she hated it. She hated his every touch. She hated to think about what was going on. But that made her forget about Malius. Made her forget about the pain that she was feeling. So, she decided to take hate over pain. She realized that she was laying back on the bed. And she ignored it. Kissing him, feeling him... she tried her best to ignore the hate. She`d let him go this far. But no further. |

[This may border Mature, but it won't cross the line] Ralston released his hand from Monica's and he slid it down her side, almost wishing it was their wedding night already. He kept wanting to push her to go further, but even his dirty pureblood principles didn't allow that, so he kept his hand on her hip. |

Monica knew so well that she shouldn`t be doing this. Who was the one screaming that she wouldn`t sleep with him? But of course, this was on entirely different purpose. If not this she would keep crying and she`d feel dead. Now for those few moments she felt other feelings than pain and it was such a relief to her tired heart. As his hand brushed down her side she tensed up, getting ready to push him off if he crossed the line. But as he didn`t she put her hand on the back of his neck - the same hand that he ad released. How much time had passed? She didn`t know. But it was good not to know. |

Ralston kept kissing, for a few minutes longer before moving to her jaw and neck. "You are a beautiful woman Monica." He said into the skin of her neck, and that was something that was genuine from him. His hand remained on her hip as he kissed her neck then he sat back up. Perhaps he wasn't as rusty at this as he thought. |

Monica ignored his words - what was it to her? She didn`t try to be beautiful to him and neither did she want that. As much as it concerned her, he could have thought that she was hideous. So, she didn`t show any reaction to it. As his lips moved to her neck she shuddered - it was just her body reacting to his actions. But when he sat up she kept laying there, her eyes darted to the ceiling. She was waiting for the pain to come back, knowing that it would. And she still could feel the taste of Ralston`s lips. Disgusting. |

Ralston picked the flowers up off the floor as they had been unceremoniously been thrown aside when he laid her back. He put them in her hands again and kissed her knuckles before giving her a diamond necklace. "Take care, Monica." He said, kissing her forehead and excusing himself. |

Monica pushed the flowers aside, still lying on the bed. She had the diamond necklace in her fingers and she barely understood that. She still hated the thought of getting married. But she wasn`t going to fight it. In some strange way, it helped. And yet, when Ralston was gone she felt everything coming back. Now it was even worse. She was guilty for doing it, even though Malius` was dead. At that thought she clenched her hands into fists and squeezed her eyes tight. There were tears blocking her throat. It took her a moment to realize that she tore the necklace apart. But it didn`t matter. She rolled on her side and pulled her legs close, crouching into a ball. She felt like she was about to explode. All those feelings just couldn`t fit inside her. How, how was she supposed to live without him?! |

Elisabeth walked up to Monica`s door and sighed. This was probably going to be hard... but it had to be done, no matter how Monica was feeling. The wedding was the day after, and it was getting rather ridiculous. Everything was set except the most important thing - the wedding dress. She knocked on the door, and not even waiting for an answer walked inside. "Monica, you need to try out your wedding dress." she said, the moment she stepped in - there was no place left for 'no' or 'I don`t want to'. |
