Conner quickly moved into action. He bent beside her and scopped her gently off the floor, before apparating them both ot the Infirmary in HQ.

Elisabeth walked to the door of Monica`s room and knocked. She hadn`t seen her for a bit. Well, she realized that her daughter was just upset about the upcoming wedding, but there really was nothing what Liz could do, so, she stayed out of it.

"Monica, you there?" she asked. Any other day she would just walk in, but now she needed her daughter to be in at least a decent mood.

Monica was sitting on the bed reading a random book. She honestly couldn`t understand what it was about, even though she had read more than a half of it. But she couldn`t concentrate on the book, because her mind was crowded. Married. She had to go and get married to someone who she didn`t even know. She tried to read so that she`d be distracted from the thought but that didn`t happen. Married.

Hearing the knock she raised her eyebrow. No one ever knocked. Well, no one cared enough to come in - only house elf brought her food. "Ugh... come in?" she said.

Hearing Monica`s voice Elisabeth nodded to herself. It didn`t sound like she was crying, neither as if she was angry. So, that was good. Opening the door she walked inside only to find her daughter sitting on the bed and reading. She didn`t look so fine, probably didn`t have much sleep?

"I need to talk to you about..." Elisabeth spoke and broke off. It was obvious anyway. In one hand she was carrying a big, heavy looking magazine.

Monica watched as her mom walked in, and then she turned her eyes back on the book. She still couldn`t understand a word she read, but it was better than just trying not to think. But as her mother spoke she felt how she tensed up. Oh no, she didn`t want to know anything about it.

"I`d rather not." she murmured, frowning a bit, trying to read.

Elisabeth narrowed her eyes a bit. "You know, this all has nothing to do with what you want and what you don`t want." she said a bit harshly. It was none of her concern. Well, it shouldn`t be, but she cared slightly. Monica was still her baby, it was hard for her to get over the fact that she`s a small child in her time.

Walking to an armchair, standing close to the bed, she sat down and sighed. "We need to get you a wedding dress."

Monica closed the book and put it on a table next to the bed. Yes. Amazing. She knew she had no choice, but she didn`t want to hear it said aloud. Dammit, this just wasn`t fair. "Mother... the last thing I care about is my wedding dress. I don`t care how I will look. For all I`m concerned I could look horrible. Maybe that would make him run away from the altar?" she spoke, staring down at her hands. She had never used this tone with her. But she was just so sick of it.

"Don`t you use that tone with me." Elisabeth replied angrily, still frowning at her daughter. "It is going to happen, no matter what you do. But we can do this either the nice way, or the ugly way. It`s your choice." she warned.

After a few moments of silence Elisabeth opened the magazine and pointed at one picture, showing it to Monica. "What do you think?"

Monica bit her lip. She probably was over the line. But how could she just ignore that? Her parents were giving her to some... man. Old man. And no one cared what she wanted. It was just so unfair. Why couldn`t they find a man that she might even like one day?

Glancing at the dress she shrugged. "Too puffy." she murmured.

Elisabeth nodded and flipped few pages. She wasn`t sure how that marriage would work. Well, yes, Monica would probably be very humble and Ralston would be... he probably wouldn`t care that much anyway.

"You know, you make such a big deal out of this." she spoke after a second, watching her. "And really, it`s not at all."

Monica stared at her mother. "Not a big DEAL?!" she asked, losing control. She couldn`t believe her mother saw it all like this. "YOU are forcing ME to MARRY some old man that I have met only once!" she yelled, shifting, so that she was looking straight at her mother.

"Have you even tried to imagine that?! I`m forced to leave my home and to go live with someone who I don`t know and who could be my father by age!" she shook her head, her voice rather hysterical.

Elisabeth jumped up to her feet, as Monica started yelling. "Oh you think that I DON`T KNOW?!" she yelled back, losing her temper as well. Two Empaths in one room and both angry, angering each other. Oh great. Amazing situation.

"I AM MARRIED!" she pointed out. "I didn`t marry the one I love, I married the one I`ve had to! And I hadn`t cried about it over and over again like some damn baby!" her voice was more quiet now, yet still angry a lot. "Everyone goes through this and they don`t make a big deal out of it! You should be happy that we aren`t throwing you out to live on a street!"

"Well, thank Merlin I`m not in love with Ralston`s brother then!" Monica yelled back. She knew she`d get back for this. But she couldn`t help it. There was... too much anger in the room and too many emotions that she had to lock away. It didn`t work that way.

"You chose that on yourself. You knew. And now... you think this will be the best for me. Yes, it will keep your name clear. Congratulations." she spoke hatefully.

Elisabeth`s eyes went wide with anger at Monica`s words. That very topic was forbidden in her home and she thought that her daughter was the last person to break the rule. In this world Johnathan didn`t exist. In this home he never did.

Being so angry that moment she simply let go of the magazine and slapped Monica. "Don`t you ever talk like that with me." she spat out, every word full of hate.

Monica felt the sharp sting on her cheek. She expected nothing less. Although it was strange - her mother never used force as an option. On the other hand, her mother never did anything before. And Monica had never fought with her mother before. So it was all strange.

Looking down at the sheets she didn`t move. She couldn`t move. Of course she knew that fighting wouldn`t help, but it was the only thing left for her. "It is all your fault, you know." she murmured silently, her face emotionless, eyes locked to one spot. "You never stood up against him. You couldn`t even now..." she whispered a lump in her throat.

Elisabeth was breathing heavily after the slap. She wasn`t sure how to react now and what to do. She had never been in a situation like this before. At Monica`s words she only smirked. Her daughter was trying to obviously piss her off.

"It`s only your fault." she replied, almost calmly now. "You should have found yourself a man. None of this would be needed. But you are a grown up and we can`t keep you under our roof anymore."

At Elisabeth`s words, Monica felt how all anger was flushed away from her. Every single time she thought about that, it felt as if something was missing. Something... big. Her eyes went back to her hands, the lump in her throat growing bigger. "Sometimes I`m not even sure what I feel anymore..." she murmured, her voice hoarse.

"It feels... it feels as if I forgot something, something important, and it`s eating me from the inside. I can`t put a finger on it." her murmur turned into a silent whisper. "It hurts. A lot. Because... I know I miss something but I just don`t know what that something is. And every single time I think about marriage I remember this ring... I don`t know where I`ve seen it, but I know... it hurts when I think about it."

Elisabeth tensed up as Monica spoke. She remembered things. She started to remember them. And that was a bad idea. She couldn`t remember, not until the marriage. Maybe a next round of potions would help?

Distractedly she walked to the bed and sat down, putting her hand on Monica`s back. How could she remember? A ring? Were she and Conner engaged? "Monica... I`m sorry." she said silently. "But think about it that way... older he is, sooner he will die." she pointed out.

Monica could feel tears blocking her throat. Her mother didn`t realize how big that hole in her was. Something important and something big was... forgotten. It was in the back of her head but she couldn`t remember. And the ring... ring in a black box... somehow lying on the ground. Why that picture was so damn painful?

She felt tears in her eyes, but she didn`t allow herself to cry. She promised to be strong, didn`t she? "I don`t want to marry him... I`m scared." she confessed.

"It will pass." Elisabeth promised. "I know it`s hard. Believe me, I can feel how hard it is. But you have to do it." she spoke, taking a deep breath.

"You will die if you won`t." she breathed out. "Ralston has a pendant... if he will crush it, you will die. That`s why you have to marry him and have to be a good wife." she caressed her back softly. Of course, she could have said the whole truth about the pendant, but that would make Monica angry on her and... they still needed to chose a wedding dress.
