Elisabeth frowned slightly as he spoke. She examined his face. Inside him there was a mess of feelings, but on the outside... he was back to being himself. He didn`t let himself feel. Or at least he didn`t let himself to show that. And as amazing as it was, she couldn`t catch on his feelings as well as she could before. As he told her to go back to sleep she didn`t even argue. She knew him. Well enough to always do what he told her to. Quickly turning around she walked to the stairs, wrapping the bathroom tighter around herself. As she was in the midway of the stairs she stopped. And quickly turned to look at him. "No matter what you think... I`ve learned to love you. So now, I do." she said softly. Darting her eyes down she went to their bedroom. |

Once again Edward didn`t react much to her words. He didn`t know which one of them was right but he realized that still it wouldn`t matter. Still it would all end the same. His eyes followed her perfect white skin as she continued to climb up. As he was alone at last he ran his hand through his hair. Well, now it was over. And he was sick of feeling. That was why he gave up on it in the first place - it simply hurt too much. And yet, that moment he knew one perfect way to get it all out of his head. It worked all the time before, he was sure it will work this time. So, he walked to the stairs and climbed up to his bedroom. If he did have a wife... well, then why not use this advantage? |

Monica walked in through the door and looked around. This was ridiculous, really. She was clutching a piece of parchment in her left hand, while firmly holding her wand in her right. This must have been the biggest nonsense from her father that she had heard yet. Her mother… back because of a time turner? It made absolutely no sense to Monica. She was pretty sure that this was only one more of her father`s plans. Or something like that. And still, there was a small hope in her heart. What if her mother really was back and what if she really wanted to see her? The thought kept her going. ”Father?! You know, this is just plain stupid.” she called, frowning and looking around. It was, but… what if he wasn`t lying? |

Elisabeth felt rather excited. No matter how Edward was about their children, she loved them. Of course, the fact that Monica had turned good bothered her, but she still wouldn`t want anything bad for her. She just wanted to make her see. And she was curious as to how she looks twenty years older. She`d be a grownup woman already. In her time Monica was just a little dark haired girl that tries to keep away from her father most of the time. Hearing her voice she suppressed her smile and rushed to the room. She wanted to make it before Edward did - he probably wouldn`t be that excited. As to what it looked he really did loathe her... so annoying those Pureblood men were. She came from around the corner and looked at the black haired woman. This amazed her. "Is it?" she only spoke as she stopped, watching her with a small smile. |

Monica waited in a total silence for few full moments. Then she heard light steps and her head turned to the side - it wasn`t her father`s steps. His she could recognize with her eyes closed. But these steps... they were lighter, quicker, just like... Her eyes went wide as she finally saw the person and heard the voice. It was her mother. Just... so much younger, so much more beautiful. And then she didn`t care for a whole moment. It didn`t matter to her that it could be just a trick - she saw her mother after all this time. "Mom..." she exclaimed, feeling like a little girl. And it was stupid and strange but... how could she fight the love that she felt for her mother as any other child? The next thing she knew she was hugging her, her eyes tightly closed. It didn`t matter anymore. Not for that moment. |

Elisabeth hugged Monica back. This was... strange. Lately everyone was hugging her. That... almost never happened in the past, did it? And now she was hugged by her daughter who was only ten years younger... this was just way too strange. But soon she blinked herself out of the strange feeling. No time for that now. She had to act while Monica was still dazed. It would be much easier, much faster. And then... she`d have all the time in eternity, wouldn`t she? "Monica, daughter..." she murmured, brushing her hand down her hair. She figured that was what mothers did. No idea why. "You need to calm down." she said softly. "Lets go to the kitchen, okay? I`ll make you something to drink, to calm down, and we could talk. I could explain you everything." she kept speaking softly as she pulled back a little, taking a step towards the kitchen. Acting like this felt stupid. But she had to. |

Monica knew she shouldn`t. She knew she should demand it all before she jumped into any conclusions. But after two years of thinking that Elisabeth was dead and after all that time before when her mother really didn`t care... this felt incredible. As if she was any other child who was loved by their parents. Still dazed, too confused to think, she nodded and followed her mother to the kitchen. Sure, one drink... as if that could change anything. She wanted to get answers too much. |

Monica closed the door behind Ralston, still staring down. At the mention of the gifts she shuddered - thank Merlin she remembered to put on the damn ring this morning - and she realized that only thinking of kissing this man made her sick. "No..." she murmured and shook her head. Gesturing to a couch, standing in the middle of the room she tried to act at least decent. Just maybe that he would consider her offer. "It`s about the.. the... wedding..." she exhaled. |

Ralston took the seat he was offered... good woman, allowing her man to sit before she thought of it. "What about it? I assure you that moving it up from April to February is beneficial." He tried assuring her, not knowing if she knew. "Believe me, I felt it was in our best interest." He told her. "But your father didn't serve you justice when he mentioned your beauty." he tried complimenting her. |

"WHAT?!" Monica blurted out loudly, for a moment forgetting who she was talking to. April?! Did he just say April? Oh Merlin, please let it be... October, or something. Not April. She quickly realized that she wasn`t supposed to act like that. "I`m sorry, but... April?" she murmured, shaking her head. At his last comment she shuddered again. My father didn`t serve me justice when he put me in this wedding thing, she thought to herself. Shaking her head she took a deep breath. She was just going to say it. She won`t be looking at him and she will just say it. "I... I am not so sure if the wedding is a good idea." she spoke, trying to keep her voice as low as possible. "I think it would be better if we wouldn`t... get married." |

Ralston was momentarily angered by her outburst, but he tried to hide it as best as he could. "My dear, I said February... I changed the date from my orignial proposed time of April. And believe me, I can treat you better than any fools you've seen before. I can give you anything and everything you want. A better home, money, love, a family..." he started listing, not phased by her reaction, Amelia was like this when he first courted her. |

Monica just blinked at him. February? That was even worse. She... she didn`t know the date at all. She realized that it would take months for the wedding. Obviously it didn`t even took a month. Taking a deep breath she tried to calm down. "But I have all that." she spoke silently. "I don`t need that. I`d rather be homele-" she broke off and decided to start again. "I really don`t think this marriage would work." she commented. Love? Seriously, had someone gave him love potion? |

Ralston stood up and took her in his arms, planting a kiss on her lips. "My apologies, Miss Grant. I should have restrained myself." he apologied, bowing his head. He parted from her. "I believe that the wedding is still necessary, your father and I both think it will happen." He told her rather unapologetically. |

Monica didn`t expect this. Anything but this.. This was just plain evil, wasn`t it? He acted all gentle while he didn`t give a shit, but now she had nothing to freak out about to make her point. As he kissed her she felt like... getting a kiss from a damn wall. She didn`t move at all and... well, there were no feelings. Like kissing your uncle that you have never even met. And that only made it worse. She quickly took a step back. Well, might as well use the fact that he was being gentle. "I`m not going to marry you." she said firmly. Maybe him being all decent made her sure that he wouldn`t do anything to her. She wasn`t scared of him. She was just grossed out by him. "And... you can`t force me to. I`m... I`m not going to." |

Ralston wasn't shocked by her reacition, he actually was sort of expecting it. With strength that was fooling from his stature as a frail looking man, he seized her upper armtightly in a vice like grip that was no doubt from reprimanding his three failure children. "Well isn't it too bad that this is happening whether you want it to or not?" He hissed before using his free hand to pull the amulet from inside his shirt. "Oh look the prescious gift of your life from your mother..." he mused looking at it. |

Monica gasped loudly as he grabbed her arm. She wasn`t expecting this. Once again. Maybe she should take her time to know him and only then start expecting things? Probably. And yet as he held her she couldn`t actually breathe. Now... now she was scared. Because suddenly from her uncle that she had never met he turned into someone she had always hated. She tried to take a step back, wanting to just get out of his grip. Force... what more did she hate than force? At his tone she felt a shiver running down her spine. She didn`t want this. She wanted to get out and run away. How could she marry this man? How? And yet as he reached for something under his shirt and pulled out the pendant she froze. Right. One thing she forgot. And she couldn`t breathe at all that moment, and her heart stopped pounding. "You wouldn`t." she murmured, staring at the pendant, out of breath. |

Still not releasing his grip he took it off his neck and swung it around carelessly, well it looked carelessly, he wasactually making sure it wouldn't fall. "So see why this marriage and the heir will happen, my dear? You'll be the good little woman you are and you'll get married to me and you will perform your duties as my wife. You will speak only when spoken to and you will bear a worthy heir." he warned her, still swinging the pendant. |

Monica gasped once again as he took the pendant off and started to swing it around. It was her life they were talking about. One thing she cared about and didn`t want to lose. She had nothing else beside it anyway. Wonderful. Her mother was amazing, wasn`t she? One thing she did value and it ended up in... his hands. She hardly could hear his words. Duties as a wife... did that mean..? Oh dear Merlin and all saints... thinking about it was bad enough, why would he have to say it? "Please...?" she asked, her eyes still on the pendant. He wouldn`t drop it, would he? Her arm started to sting. |

Ralston sneered and put it back around his neck. "See why you will keep your mouth shut and be a good little girl? Because I control you now." he told her rather deviously. "That's the problem with women, they are weak, they valuse insignificant things..." He told her. "That's why they are usually killed off at birth and in times of disobedience." That was her one and only warning from him. "But you see? This is just a piece of attractive jewelery for me... I don't need to have this to kill you, just like I didn't need one to kill my first wife when she was disobedient." He mused as if it was no issue. Edited by Ralston Marrid, Jan 21 2009, 04:37 AM.

Monica could swear that she was about to drop dead. So, she was right. Being all gentle was only an act, wasn`t it? He wasn`t going to be a gentleman that she at least hoped. He was going to be an ass, just like her father used to be. Just like her brother turned out to be. As he mentioned his wife she felt rather dizzy. And this was the man that her mother gave her life to? Oh. My. Merlin. Once again she was out of breath. He killed his wife? He... suddenly she lost any will to fight. It was... way too much. So slowly, very slowly, she nodded. How could she ever fight this? |
