Emma barely stood for long, choosing instead to balance on the arm of the sofa and watch Kevin with Katie, silently. Katie really was the best remedy to any problem. One look at her forever smiling face, or one note of her cheeky giggle was enough to melt a heart and cause one to forget their troubles. It was one of Emma's favorite sights, watching Kevin doting on their daughter; his big hands against her tiny little fists, his baritone voice against her endearingly cute little babble... Kevin actually looked at peace and Emma was relieved. All it took was to see the reason for his decision.

Emma laughed at the mention of a lack of food and of shopping. She hadn't felt like cooking anyway. As soon as she was in the kitchen she was just going to cook by wand. "Well as I said, it's been a hectic month." The suggestion of take-out was very welcome. "Hmmm... pizza. You know, I can't even remember the last time I had pizza."

Emma bit her lip at Kevin trying to express the giggle at Kevin's suggestion that he teach her French, pointing out that whilst they lived in France, she barely knew any. She wasn't giggling because she thought it a terrible idea (although she had no idea what kind of a student she'd be) but more because she was thinking about the various times she'd popped down to the local store and tried to communicate her shopping list to a very confused French shop assistant. Emma had vague recollections of broken French, mixed with English and hand signals and returning home with only half her shopping along with various items she hadn't even wanted.

"You know, I think that is an excellent idea. I can say one or two things but I doubt I can get by wit just saying my name and age to shop assistant and such." There were times when Emma almost forgot they lived in France, they spent so much time in the Auror HQ or Ministry in England but Kevin's accent when they were home was what always reminded it. In fact, his accent had always been one of the things that had attracted her to him. There was just something about an accent.

"Well then, while you order that pizza, I'll settle Katie down for the night in the nursery," Emma responded, kissing Kevin again on the cheek and lifting Katie from his lap and holding her close to Kevin's face. "Come on, Sweetie. Kiss Daddy good night." Katie happily complied, planting a slopping kiss on Kevin's cheek. "Good girl. Night night, Daddy." Emma waved one of Katie's hands before disappearing into the nursery and settling her down in her crib, glad to have her home safe.

Once she was settled, Emma returned to the living-room, dragging with her a blanket from their room and settled back on the sofa waiting for Kevin.

Smiling a bit as Katie and Emma disappeared into the next room, Kevin stood slowly, his hands still in his hair. He wasn't thinking properly, still, but he was enjoying the fact that he had at least a smile on his face. He almost didn't want to feel normal- he wanted to feel the fact that he'd nearly killed someone, that for a while he thought he had..but there was a part of them that..was feeling normal. Like it was okay.

And that was scaring him.

Picking up the phone, he was finishing the call as she entered the room and the smile reappeared. He held up a "one moment" finger, finishing, "Une grande pizza de pepperoni, fromage supplémentaire. Oui. Merci. Ayez une bonne nuit.". Click. Phone went dead. Strange remnant for him.

He spun around and sat down beside her with his arm around her., still smiling, "Hey. So for instance...I think I just said, My wife is the sexiest person in the world..." He laughed for a second. "All right, maybe I just told him to have a good night."

Emma sat wrapped in the blanket, waiting for Kevin to finish ordering the pizza. Listening. If the French accent he slipped into when he spoke in English, in France was cute, hearing Kevin actually speak the language, always made Emma's knees go weak. Yup. There was definitely just something about accents that was remarkably sexy.

She tried to make out what he was saying but could only pick up bits and pieces. One large pizza with pepperoni... That was simple enough. Pizza and pepperoni seemed like universal words. Something, something... yes, thank you and then a few more somethings.

Kevin joined her on the sofa and Emma wriggled closer, flipping the blanket around them and giggled. "Hey. I'm the sexiest person in the world, huh? So what did the person on the other end say to that? I mean I tried to tell the lady in the bakery that the other month, about you and she just looked at me funny." She bit her lip. "Maybe that's why I this lessons is a good idea."

Emma broke out into a grin, glad to be home, glad not to be shackled in that library, or locked in the warehouse. She was glad to be with her family, with Katie, with Kevin. She was... glad. Emma watched Kevin for a moment before murmuring one of the few shot phrases she knew, "Je t'adore," before leaning up and stealing a kiss. "Hmm... so what else can you teach me?"

Wrapping his arm around her shoulder, he returned the kiss softly, and then tilted his head against his wife's. There was something about the normalcy in the scene that had removed him. He wasn't quite certain what it was, but as he spoke, he'd slipped back into French entirely without being aware of it, and he spoke in a soft whisper in the tangle of black hair she had. "Est ce ce que je veux. Pour ne pas devoir courir, pour ne pas se cacher. Vous, moi, et notre fille, maison. Une famille, ensemble, nourriture de commande et sifflement dans chaque autres oreilles. J'ai toujours voulu ceci, et ce seul. Normale."

He shut his eyes for a second, still speaking internal, and horribly broken French-English without realizing it, and holding her as close as possible. Why was the universe always after them? Hadn't they proven time and time again they were not going to be broken up? It was always a struggle, always a fight...and if Kevin was being honest, he was getting sick of that. What was the problem, with wanting normalcy? A family, a home?

It was after all, what he had just hissed into her ear. This is what I want. Not to have to run, not to hide. You, me, and our daughter, home. A family, together, ordering food and hissing in each others ears. I have always wanted this, and this alone. Normalcy. Except he knew she didn't understand it...and it didn't seem to matter. The sentiment was in the scene, not his words. It was in the fact that he was only holding her, kissing her softly, and shutting everything else out. Shutting out that loud bang- the blood, on the floor, staining everything that was so pure-- that knife, that wicked, wicked knife pointed at his daughter...no, no, he couldn't think about that. He couldn't dwell on it. Dwell on normalcy. Dwell on teaching her the language you grew up speaking, dwell on building a family and a life together.

Why was it so hard for him to focus?

"I said..." He paused and then laughed. "Uh. Don't remember exactly. I suppose I should start slower, hm?"

Emma's eye fluttered close with a sigh, as Kevin's arm went around her and his head rested against hers, a small smile on her face. This felt felt right. This felt as it should, as she had always envisioned marriage to be like, as marriage should be like. No partners showing up, confusing feeling or trying to influence them to break up; no worrying about the others well being because the other has been kidnapped or is ill or injured; no arguments; no lies or deceit. Just them.

It reminded Emma somewhat of when they had been dating, back two years ago, before the universe started its vendetta against them being together as a married couple. When they used to sit like this, curled up on the porch bench outside Headquarters, or on the Common Room sofa. How they used to sit out on a blanket on the grass by the Headquarters lake or propped side by side against the tree over looking it. Just being.

What ever happened to those days?

The answer was clear. The universe hated them and yet they kept fighting. They had to keep fighting otherwise that would be a nearly three years relationship gone to waste. Emma would keep on fighting just to at one moment or another, be able to have these rare few moments, just like they were currently sharing.

Kevin whispered something to her in French. He would on occasion revert back to the language he'd grown up with. Emma's eyes remained closed, listening intently to the words that were whispered to her. French was such a beautiful language. Emma couldn't say what Kevin had said but it was the tones with which each word was spoken that affected her the most, and was what she understood the most. They were of a like mind on the subject. Both thinking the same thing but then the silence, the peace and lack of worry or fear, were easily noticed. For the moment, they were just an ordinary couple, with a family, sharing a wonderfully relaxed and quiet evening. But for how long?

Emma heard the want in her husbands voice, the desire and felt it too. Every moment like they were sharing now was precious; they never knew when the universe would next place another obstacle in their path.

Hearing Kevin's voice again, only this time louder, Emma opened her eyes, both glistening somewhat, to look up at him enquiringly, yet she didn't ask about what he had said. He laughed and she responded with a quiet laugh of her own and nodded at his question. "Perhaps. We don't want me getting tongue tied, do we? Maybe some simple phrases I can use at the store or in case of emergencies." Actually, scratch that suggestions. She didn't want to be thinking about any more possible disasters the universe might throw at them.

"Who knows, soon you could have me talking like a pro. We could be holding conversations together like this, only in French."

In case of emergencies. Was it sad that Kevin didn't find the phrase odd, or morbid-- but rather a true recount of literally every single time they had been this happy before? There was always, it seemed, something new that the universe seemed to ready to chuck at them. Kevin wasn't so sure he could handle another one. In fact, he was pretty certain that he couldn't. He didn't doubt that Emma would weather anything at all, and he didn't even doubt that he would somehow stop loving her-- because that would never happen.

He was honestly just sick to death of fighting all the time. He was quite glad they had beat the universe again; he wasn't going anywhere, not when he was so close to having everything he really did want.

Close? Hell, he did.

"Who knows? That's probably true. " He spoke in French first and laughed, before recounting it in English and saying in the same, "You know...French is a very romantic language." His accent was naturally heavier here, but he attempted to lay it on at the moment grinning, and leaned forward to kiss her- perhaps a little less soft than before. He focused on it, just their lips, pressed against each other and locked in lust and love. There was a small alarm--and then a large one, and he jumped. What was that bell?

Oh. Doorbell. Right.

"Pizza!" He laughed, although he hadn't pulled back quite yet from her.

Kevin spoke again in French and Emma in turn responded to his laugh with a smile of her own. Imagining herself speaking French was rather an amusing thing to who so joined in with the laughter. At is next words however, Emma fell silent, he thick French accent giving her the shivers. Her voice lightly husky, and mind hazy listening to the accent, the words and having Kevin sat with his arms around her, she murmured, "Really? How so?" However before she could finish her question, Kevin's lips descended upon hers and Emma instinctively responded, feeling the passion behind the kiss, and responding equally. It really had been a while since they'd really shared such an intense moment together.

It only lasted a moment or two, as the universe decided to spring a small interruption on them with the doorbell ringing, signaling the arrival of the pizza.

"Okay, so perhaps being tongue tied isn't quite so bad," Emma giggled when they broke away, her face flushed and lips swollen. Yes this certainly reminded her of when they were first dating. How shy she had been, the blushing the butterflies after their first kiss...Not much had changed in the way she felt now.

She found herself with a healthy glow after each kiss. Emma still felt the goosebumps and the wonderful swooping feeling in her stomach, every time Kevin kissed her, held her or said or did something sweet. And that was love. That was what they were holding onto.

Emma shot a glance toward the door, a small pout on her face as she imagined the pizza guy stood outside waiting, while they were inside, making out. Were they not allowed one evening, interruption free? Kevin however had laughed and Emma in turn found it difficult not to join in. It was typical really. While he had laughed at the interruption, Kevin had not moved and neither had Emma, asides from turning her head to glare at the door. It was fairly tempting to just suggest they pretend they weren't there, go hungry and continue making out but another more determined ring, put a stop to that idea.

She rolled her eyes, this time the glance she shot at the door was more glare then pout but reluctantly she pulled away slightly, but only just. "Let's pay the pizza guy, send him on his way and then..." Emma lent back in stealing another lingering kiss. "We can always put the pizza in the oven," she pointed out. "Unless we're hungry now?"

Kevin only laughed a bit harder when he realized she was blushing, quite tongue-tied, and that fact alone calmed him. They were married a year and a half ago, and although they hadn't ever gotten the year of wedded bliss; he still realized it was rare for the butterflies to still be there, and for Emma they were. It made him grin.

In his own mind, he felt a little bit differently. There had been a sort of growth for him, he didn't feel particularly hot and sexy and passionate any longer -- at least, not in the same way, because there was just so much more to it for him. That sweet blush in her cheeks still made his pulse rise, he noticed, and the easily embarrassed laughter was one that spoke of the deeper commitment now. A depth of understanding perhaps, or at least...something.

That calmed him a bit to know. He'd proposed to Emma on the whim and fact that it was a quite simple way to get around Matthew's sick plan to trap Emma to him instead--with his own death. How long ago was that now? Nearly two years? Merlin, time flew. And they'd been fighting the universe ever sense. In fact, he'd spent most of the previous year at this time, hiding from his wife, hiding from his former fiance...and it really did comfort him to know he may actually be past that. Might actually just want this deep, home, family connection.

And as he reluctantly nodded and grinned, standing to pay the pizza guy, he realized that he just liked to look at her. And....that perhaps he did feel a little bit passionate at that particular moment. He laughed quietly, returning the kiss and saying, "Oh I'm hungry, but I don't think for pizza..."

He laughed, and opened the door, accepting the pizza and handing over a few euros. A tiny conversation in French later, and he'd returned, grasping the food and arching his eyebrow. "Now..." He put the pan down, not even bothering with the oven, grinning himself and catching his arms around her, and smirking slightly. "Where were we?"

The fact that Kevin found her blushing amusing and openly showed it, only made Emma's cheeks darken some more.Burying her face momentarily in her hands, trying to hide her slight embarrassment, yet she was laughing also.

Emma had always been shy around guys when she was a student, until Matthew, who had given her that bit of confidence. Now while she wasn't quite as shy but still found most little things exciting and endearing. She still tended to act at times as if Kevin was her first school girl crush. However, despite that, hopefully she had grown up a bit.

She groaned in displeasure as Kevin pulled away and stood to pay the pizza guy but the displeasure turned to eager anticipation, as she caught onto the hint given in his parting words as he headed for the door. She couldn't agree more. Pizza could wait... or be abandoned altogether.

Emma waited, curled up on the sofa, blanket half across her lap and half discarded, both Emma's clothes and the blanket a tad wrinkled now. Her pulse was still racing from the intensity of their kiss. She could heard a conversation in French at the front door, and took the moment to catch her breath.

She barely had to wait a minute or two before the front door closed an the smell of melted cheese and spicy pepperoni wafted into the room, along with her husband. Well... maybe not entirely abandoned altogether. It would keep for the oven later.

Emma followed Kevin's movements, from the hallways into the living room and the pan tossed on the coffee table, with the same look of eager anticipation she'd adopted at his not so subtle hints. Joining her back on the sofa, his arms arms enveloping her yet again, it was Emma's time to interrupt him mid speech. Her hands lifting to brush against each cheek, before drawing him closer, her lips capturing Kevin's own with a renewed hunger. Her hands lifting from where they rested on his cheeks, to his hair.

After several minutes she broke away, flushed now more than ever and a satisfied smirk on her face. "What? I was impatient of waiting." Emma laughed stealing another kiss and then paused, watching Kevin, smirk a tad relaxed. "This is how it should be. No more interruptions. You, me and Katie. A new slate, as of now. We start again. A new beginning or sorts."

Emma wrapped her arms around her husband drawing him close and resting her head against this chest, listening to his slightly racing heartbeat. Those words might sound childish but they sounded right. They couldn't continue if they were always looking back. They needed to look forward.

Laughing and grinning along with her, Kevin wrapped his arms around her as well, leaning backwards and settling along the couch, but as she smiled and rested her head against his chest, he nodded softly.

"Hey." He laughed. "I think that's what I said in French...are you telling me you understand it already?" He grinned as he looked at her, but he was merely stroking her hair at the moment. One arm was around her waist. "I must be a good teacher."

He brushed a strand of hair out of her eyes, smiling a little at her. It wasn't hard for him to stop joking- he just didn't mind being equally flirtatious as they really did talk. He missed just hanging out with her; he realized. Being around her, holding on to her, making her laugh and seeing that sweet blush on her cheeks when she did so. It was that that he was left with now, right? They were at a beginning of sorts.

He just had to make sure he didn't let his mind slip back into what he'd been thinking only a few hours ago; it would probably overwhelm him. No, focus on the here. The now. And since it was what he wanted...it wasn't surprisingly that hard.

Emma lay down alongside Kevin, still holding him close and still resting her head against his chest, which vibrated with every word he spoke and with his laughter. He quietened a moment and Emma pulled the discarded blanket up and around them. This was where they should be... where she wanted to be. At home with her family, with Katie and Kevin; curled up on the sofa with her husband holding her close and her likewise. Feeling suddenly... safe and at peace.

She heard his comment and giggled, replying almost lazily as Kevin stroked her hair. "Well you know, I'm a quick learner and you are one of the best and you know how much I love that accent of yours." Emma added the last bit idly lifting a hand to trace pattern on the arm resting around her waist.

Peaceful indeed. Peace and normalcy.

Bliss.

Emma lifted her gaze to Kevin's, as he brushed a strand of hair from he eyes, a small smile on her face, and held his gaze a moment or to before murmuring. "Well... if we're at a new beginning of sorts. I'd say introductions are in order." The corner of her mouth twitched as she tied to keep from giggling. "My name's Emma D'Abugine, formally Hope. I'm married to the most wonderful man, who I really don't deserve and we have a beautiful daughter. I like quite evenings spent in front of the fire and I enjoy baking cake. My pet peeve is.... having to get up before noon."

Amused, Kevin murmured in French first that he loved her, and nodded idly with a laugh as she spoke. "Enchante, mademoiselle." And he laced his fingers through her left hand lifting it over her head to kiss and grinned as he did so. He spoke in a broken french and english, as he had when he had first moved to England and begun speaking English more frequently. He'd learned it of course, when he was tutored as a child and always spoke it with Abi and Andromeda, but it had taken him a while to be more fluent in the vernacular.

"Je m'appelle Kevin. Delighted to meet you. I like cooking and plays, people could probably call me a ham. My pet peeve? Sitting still all the time." He was trailing kisses up her arm as he spoke, his other hand idly stroking her side and hair. As he moved closer to her shoulder, he lowered his hand and murmured while kissing her neck, "Your husband must consider himself the luckiest person in the world, except for your daughter...considering she has you for a mother."

Emma giggled as he lifted her hand and kissed it (always the gentleman), and she settled back to listen intently to his introduction.

She was amused by the little touches, the details. He really had spoken in broken French and English when they'd first met, and their meeting which had almost started to feel like it had happened decades ago, suddenly felt like it had only happened yesterday. In fact, Emma had the strange sense of deja'vu.

Emma found herself grinning as Kevin stated his pet peeve. He certainly hadn't been sitting still, what with trailing kisses up her arm and stroking her hair and side... And neither was she sitting still as she shivered at his touch. It felt like ages since they'd had an evening alone like this.

Her breath hitched in her throat as Kevin's lips hit a sensitive spot on her neck, murmuring words she almost didn't catch against her skin. Emma took a second to answer turning her gaze to meet his with a small smile in place. "Oh I'm sure he does," she nodded, the smile twitching into a grin, as she lifted a hair to idly play with a lock of his dark hair.

Hand still at his hair, Emma lent up kissing Kevin first sweetly, then deepening the kiss somewhat, breaking away only briefly to murmur, "Happy Valentine's Day love,"

Kevin laughed softly and made a deep, throated noise resembling 'mmm'. "Heureux jour de saint valentin", mon amour." It was after all, the same exact thing she'd said, only in French. Shifting a bit on the couch and squishing them underneath the blanket despite the fact that they had a perfectly good bed a few hundred feet off, he kissed her softly, repeatedly, stroking her hair and lower back as he hugged her to him, cradling her against his chest. Slowly, he murmured,

"I...can't believe we're here." It was true, actually. They'd been through a freaking hell of a lot. "You know it was just a little over two years ago that we met?"

Scooting a little bit and moving his hand up and down her arm for a bit, he kept talking out loud, laughing. "Abi had apparently had the idea in her head from the start that we'd 'be perfect for each other', or whatever it is really. Bet she was taking lessons from Evil Lynx or something. I remember walking into the common room, and.. the prettiest girl in the room answered the door. Said I was the "famous Kevin"... Abi never could shut up, could she?" He laughed idly. "But then, I guess she was exactly right in this case."

Emma curled closer to Kevin as he shifted slightly, drawing her closer still and hugging her to him, the blanket tucked snugly around them. Who needed a bed when you had a perfectly good bed right there? He kissed her softly and Emma rested her head against his chest, entwining her feet with Kevin's under the blanket and listening to his steady heart beat, with the rise and fall of his chest.

She felt her eye begin to drift shut, with the soothing beat of Kevin's heart, the welcome warmth of the lit fire and Kevin's arms around her...Emma remained silent as he spoke, drawing her thought back to the day they met in the Common Room.

"Two years..." she murmured, deep in thought. "I remember. Abi wouldn't stop talking about you the months before you arrived." Emma blushed as Kevin stated that she'd been the prettiest girl in the room. "I think you took me by surprise. I didn't quite know what to say. I remember rambling on about the many variations of my name." She cringed slightly, that had been embarrassing. "You were famous though," Emma murmured, cracking open one eyes and craning her neck to look at her husband. "I felt like I knew you already, of course I know you a whole lot better now and I can't say I'm disappointed."

Emma reached forward, kissing Kevin along the jaw line. "They were right about us," she murmured. "When they gave us neighboring rooms, when they exchanged knowing glances behind out backs... They knew we were made for each other. If we weren't, then we wouldn't have survived this far." She continued to trail kisses along Kevin's jaw line, before kissing him firmly. "We're going to keep on surviving for years more yet. You'll see."

[[Seems like as good a place as any to leave off.]]

The spa day had been absolutely wonderful. Totally worth the moment an Emma was glad she had invited Lynx along. It had been ages since they'd had a good chat and they really succeeded in having one that afternoon as well as getting the pampering they both deserved. Emma felt relaxed, refreshed and fabulous after the spa treatments, her nails done, skin glowing, hair and make-up touched up... Now returning home all that was needed before Kevin returned home was to get dinner cooking and sort the house. A little magic wouldn't go amiss there. Katie was at her parent's for the night so they had the whole evening to themselves.

Preparing an setting the vegetables to boil on the hobs and the lamb chop in a pan under the grill, Emma set to work on the dessert. Mixing up the chocolate pudding mix, melting blocks of chocolate and mixing it in with cream, a bit of butter and egg whites, with a little touch of brandy and pouring them into little dishes for serving before popping them in the fridge.

Food cooking, Emma set to work with her wand, tidying the house and setting up their small dining room table in the center of the living room, plates, glasses, cutlery, candle in the center as well as several other candles set out around the room to be lit last minute, soft music playing in the background. Finally it was her turn to get ready. Slipping into their room to fish her latest purchase out from under the bed, Emma slipped into the little red and black lacy something she'd bought for her husband's enjoyment sliding her new knee length, floaty, black cocktail dress over the top.

Kevin would be home soon, she was sure of it so tucking the empty bags under the bed and re-checking her hair and make-up, Emma returned to the living room, lighting the candles and turning off the mains lights. Then it was a trip back to the kitchen to check on dinner and bring through the bottle of champagne and glasses, pouring herself a glass in wait.

Kevin deserved this evening. After all the times he'd treated her in the past and thought of her, it was her turn to do something extra special for him, especially as they were starting a new and facing the universe head-on. There was the trips France when they were dating, romantic evenings under the Eiffel Tower or snuggled up on the porch bench at HQ. The way he looked after her when she was under the damned Bonding Potion, proposing to her, organizing their private wedding in her room at HQ. There was how he took such great care of her when she so often got herself injured and sent to Mungo's for a night or to Tanya for patching up. The time he put into being a father and how he was still willing to be Katie's father even before they were sure if she was his.

Now after the start of year they'd had and the ordeal he'd had to go through shooting a pregnant Tigs, and believing he'd killed both her and her baby, only to find out she was alive. He was totally beat up over it. Emma could see how much it played on his mind and she wanted to do something to ease the pain, to take his mind off of it all. She wanted to do this for him.

Settling bare foot on the sofa, feet tucked underneath her, Emma sipped her champagne in wait. Hopefully Kevin would enjoy the evening ahead and hadn't had too rough a day.

The appointment had seemed to do nothing but waste the Healer-- or rather, Acolyte, it appeared the Healer's were all involved somehow in bringing people "back" to the psychiactric wing--'s so called "precious time". Besides recommending therapy for trauma, they hadn't done anything whatsoever and had completely annoyed him by making snide remarks about the so-called "lack of control".

As he entered the room however, Kevin paused mid-toss of his coat and suddenly started to grin. The lights, the music...particularly the wonderful smell coming from the kitchen...all of that made him stop and grin, but it was his wife on the sofa that made him grin the most. He laughed, feeling entirely softened somehow and then came over to the couch.

"Emma...?"

He didn't have anything else to say. It was softly spoken, and it was both a question and a statement that seemed to say it all. Without even realizing it, he'd spoken with a heavy French accent, so it sounded more like, 'ma?', but he didn't care. Everything was...clean, and seemingly from...

...heaven.

Basically.

Emma had barely made it through half her glass of champagne, when she heard the front door open and her husband wander in. She'd only been waiting a little while, unsure really at what time he would be returning and unsure also, how he would react to the evening she had prepared.

Kevin's reaction couldn't have been better. Emma watched, as however much tension he may have had weighing down on his shoulders, seemed to fade instantly before her eyes. His coat held in his arm as he surveyed the room before turning his gaze on her, the grin that that had spread across his face. Emma soon found herself doing likewise as he approached her, standing to meet him and wordlessly taking his coat, tossing it over the back of the sofa, her eyes never once leaving his grinning face. "Hey..."

He laughed and Emma laughed too, stepping forward and draping her arms around Kevin's neck, smiling up at him. "I thought you deserved a treat," she murmured, rolling up on top-toe and kissing him gently and continuing, drawing him to settle back down on the sofa beside her. "A chance to relax. Dinner will be ready in a little bit and there's champagne if you'd like some." She nodded towards the bottle and glasses set on the coffee table.

Drawing her legs up underneath her, Emma shuffled round behind Kevin, hugging him from behind and resting her chin over his shoulder. Kissing his cheek, then neck a moment later, she drew back to rest her hands over his broad back and shoulders, testing the tension of the the muscles with her. Brows furrowed, Emma lent back over Kevin's shoulder, kissing his cheek again. "Someone's tense," she stated, rolling the heels of her hands into the muscle.

A soft chuckle escaped Kevin's throat and he found it was hard to actually speak. He couldn't really believe that Emma had... done all of this. With everything going on, with all that was happening at work and in the world and the Minister possibly resigning and...he just couldn't breathe, could he? He couldn't smile hard or often enough, he couldn't speak for fear of ruining something he hadn't meant to, and he couldn't stop staring. So. He closed his eyes as she went around him and started massaging his shoulders, and wrapped his arms behind him around her, laying his head against his neck and trying to just breathe. Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Out.

Oh. Had he murmured something? What ... was it? He wasn't really aware. There was too much at once...too much, everywhere. Champagne? That sounded wonderful. He continued to smile, and nodded.

What he had murmured, was "Am I in heaven?"

There was a small guilty part of him that felt that if he died after what he'd done, he couldn't honestly deserve heaven. "You're too good for me..." He murmured, twisting around now to catch her lips and lose his hands in her hair for a minute or two. When he finally broke them apart, he was breathing heavily and apologetically he laughed,

"...I, am, actually hungry."

Well.

He was.

Kevin was strangely silent throughout Emma's actions and as she explained the reason for the evening. Somehow it greatly amused her. This was a chance for them to lock their doors to the world outside, close the blinds to the universe and just take some time for themselves. A chance to just be. For them, these evenings had been short and few, often interrupted, ended abruptly or put on hold. Tonight nothing as standing in the way of their enjoying themselves. Not work, not the universe or responsibility... nothing. Tonight was just them.

Feeling Kevin's arms wrap back around her, Emma lent into him, resting her chin over his shoulder and pausing, just taking a moment to watch Kevin's face - eyes closed, breathing deeply - a small smile on her own lips.. She swore she heard him murmur something so pressed forward to hear, letting out a soft laugh as the words became clear. "Of course. Where else would you be?"

Emma blushed at Kevin's next statement, losing herself in his kiss as he twisted round to face her, her own hands trailing over his back. "The evening's not over yet," she smirked as they broke apart, both breathing heavily. Then added after Kevin mentioned how hungry he was, "Dinner could yet be a disaster. I tried my hand at something a bit more fancy than beans on toast, but if all else fails, there's enough of that too in the cupboard, as a plan B."

Reluctantly, Emma broke away, straightening out the creases in her dress and turned towards the kitchen. "Now, why don't you pour us some champagne and get settled and I'll go and dish up"
