Don't go in the Shed!

It's rather hard to crit sketches, sometimes, but here we go: - Just to make sure: the first one has its back shading, right? Anyway, the biggest issue I see here is that the legs seems to have significantly different thicknesses. Because the back leg is partly hidden behind the tail leaves(?), it looks very thick. Also the position of the feet is strange: it looks like it has both feet pointing sideways. If that small finger is like the back toe on pigeons, then point it backward. If it's the kind of bird that has all toes pointing forward, then I would suggest the front foot show show part of another toe "above" the big one that is visible. - I'm not a big fan of the position of the body in relation to the viewer--too vertical. But apart from that, my only issue is with the legs. If you look at real spiders (or even Spinarak/Ariados), the legs point up from the body, and then fold down. On the sprite, they seem to be coming out almost horizontally away from the body, which looks very strange. The back legs also look very curved, without the necessary angle. - Proportions bother me very much here. The arms are too large, and the head is way too small. Also, and this may be just the design, I would make the trunk more like a human's, where the chest is slightly bulging in relation to the abdomen. Finally, the legs look extremely strange, pointing opposite each other and sideways. |
