For my friend who can't write so she has to force other people to do it for her.
Plot: My friend
Writing: Me

Description: What would happen if the wolf people didn't pick up the vampire's scent when Laurent cornered Bella? Read this exciting what-if story to find out. *sarcasm fin*

Introduction

It had only been a few months, and already, I was considering going against Edward’s wishes, well, commands really. Don’t interfere, he’d said. Bah, even with trying to keep my focus off Bella, visions of her still slip through the cracks. My mind was just simply too accustomed to her and it didn’t help that the short distance between us just frequent the visions. I giggled, feeling hysterical for a brief moment.

Silly Edward. Even with a sister who can see into the future, he still refuses to believe that he’s meant for Bella. Even when he decided that we’re all to leave, apparently for her own safety, the visions still showed that she’d become one of us or die. Ignorant fool! I was just getting used to her too. I frowned, a most unusual facial expression for me.

I knew I was wasting time on my hopeless fantasies and my scorching throat quickly reminded me of it too. Plus, I knew Edward would be a little more than suspicious if he received a call saying that his dear little sister Alice had disappeared, and I wasn’t ignorant enough to think he’d let me go with an empty threat.

Sighing, I returned my attention to the matter at hand; feeding. I closed my eyes, letting my instincts take over and sensed the surrounding area. The melodic singing of birds reached me first followed by the scurrying of forest rodents, all too aware of my alarming presence. Straining slightly, I forced myself to reach outwards, ignoring the small happenings in my immediate vicinity.

After approximately four seconds I could hear the solid hoof beats of a small herd of caribou; one male and two female judging by the weight behind the stamps. I sighed, resigned. It was never fun hunting prey that was stupid enough to kill itself by crossing a busy highway. It wouldn’t be a challenge, but they were thankfully two kilometers away, a fun chase at best.

I leapt with inhuman grace and speed covering an unbelievable distance with each stride for someone who’s just less than five feet. My feet felt like they were barely touching the ground. I would describe the sensation more like gliding than anything else. I was amazed how giddy I always felt when I could let loose and run. It was one of those things that stuck with you even if you’ve been doing it for centuries.

I sucked in a deep breath of air, savoring the tangy taste that all the more assaulted the back of my throat. It definitely wasn’t as attractive as human blood, but I guess when you haven’t eaten for over three weeks it really doesn’t matter. I closed the distance in less than thirty seconds. My acute sense of smell found the edge of the clearing they were at to be about one hundred meters ahead.

My eyes fogged over for a brief second showing my Jasper completely draining a grizzly getting blood all over his perfectly good clothes. I felt a bit jealous and slightly aggravated at his disregard for clothes. Grizzly is one of my favorites. After he was done a look of panic dawned on his face. After my normal vision returned I pondered what that could mean. It was obviously going to happen soon, but what would make him panic? Probably one of my visions, that’s the only time that look comes on his face anyhow.

I nudged the vision into a different part of my mind and analyzed it, thankful for my ability to hold multiple thoughts as I crouched at the edge of the clearing. My soundless gait could work miracles while hunting. I often told my older and much more boisterous brother that a silent killer is the best killer, but of course, his pride would never let him say that I was right.

I crouched and pondered how to continue. I really didn’t want to ruin another outfit so the safest route would probably be to break the male’s neck and drink from the jugular. I nodded once to myself and let my feral personality go. My back arched as I prepared to pounce my prey, a mere twenty meters away, but suddenly my eyes fogged over showing me a meadow… Edward’s meadow.

I saw Bella, her face a picture of composed horror. She was staring at Laurent who smiled friendly and deliberately stepped forward still talking casually. I stared in disbelief and utter bewilderment. What the hell was Laurent doing at Forks? I watched in dismay as Bella’s face changed to an image of broken despair. Laurent crouched and lunged at Bella. His feet kicked into her and pinned her to the ground, his fingers tore into her shoulder, sending streams of blood running down her arm, and then his teeth finally sank themselves into Bella’s soft penetrable flesh of her jugular. Bella struggled futilely while her blood slid down that monster’s throat, her already pale face drained of blood, into a gray.

She stopped struggling.

Needless to say, grizzlies could be a bit of an annoyance. The one before me now was stubborn; its hulking mass already wounded in several areas, refused to give up, and clawed at me whenever I approached. I sighed inwardly, if it weren’t for Alice telling me to mind my clothes the damn beast would be down by now and my almost unlimited appetite may finally be appeased. I tried lunging forward again, but he swiped at me when I got too close.

My patience was already thinning and I didn’t like spending too much time away from Alice. I circled to its flank and tackled it to the ground. It thrashed for a bit, but my steel grip never faltered. I sank my teeth into its exposed neck and shuddered as the blood slid down my throat extinguishing the torturous burning in the back.

It didn’t take long, in fact, I felt a bit sloshy when I finished the remaining blood in the bear. I stood and wiped away the blood that I regrettably spilled on my shirt. Alice would kill me. My thoughts moved to her and I searched through the emotions of all the beings in the forest’s residence to find any traces of Alice’s mind.

When I found her I staggered. Despair. Panic. Pain. Depression. The emotions hit me in full force almost crushing me under the immensity of the feelings. They were so powerful and the only other time I ever felt Alice this despaired was when Edward told us to leave Bella. She put on a strong mask, but underneath I could feel her emotions screaming bloody murder at Edward.

As the seconds ticked by, the pressure in my brain only magnified revealing the full implications of what Alice saw. What could be worse than leaving Bella? I dashed east towards Alice’s mind trying to emit a strong enough calm so she would stop sinking into her depression. I was getting closer and the force was getting terribly stronger, enough to make me cringe. I strained my ears and heard her tearless sobbing, almost hysterical.

I reached her only to find her on the ground shaking from her violent sobs. I sent out a wave of calm with all the force I could muster, touching her even, to reinforce it. She still sobbed, but not quite as hysterically. “Alice, what’s wrong?” I said, my voice questioning and very much concerned.

“Jasper…” she sobbed, “give me your phone, now.” She was talking fast in between her sobs, urgent. I fished out my phone and as soon as it was out of my pocket she snatched it out of my fingers. I eyed her curiously and helped her into a sitting position, but didn’t inquire any further. I would find out soon enough.

Her fingers went to speed dial, and hit number four. Edward? So it is about Bella. Edward picked up before the ring even sounded and muttered a sarcastic and impatient greeting. Alice interrupted before he even finished though.

“Edward, don’t do anything rash. Don’t even hang up until I tell you to. It’s about Bella.”
