shading help?

so i'm very nearly finished with the gark green shading- i have the entire body and legs finished except for the tails, which i'm having trouble with and i'm not sure why. i've currently got the guide shading on the tails for the highlights, but it seems wrongthat every one has a highlight, but i;m having problems telling them apart and what should go wher ewith the light source and... blah. help?

edit: i also haven't finished shading the outlines.

You're using way too many shades - you could easily get away with half as many.
Also, I'd reccommnend picking a different lightsource - the one you have now makes it look like pillowshading.

i was trying to have a semi-realistic soft shading because the metal is like unpolished iron...
and it does, a bit, but that;s alright for now, imo. but i really need help on the tails.
