Yeah.. I don't know about anyone else, but I always like a constant intake of new music :] So here... I guess you can either give or ask for suggestions. So you can give a genre you like and someone may give you a recommendation.
Yeah.. I know you can just use music roamer/last.fm. but sometimes it's nice to get your recommendations from people you kinda know? If that makes sense.. Edited by Moofzz, Nov 1 2008, 01:26 PM.

August Burns Red- Sweet growls and screams; epic breakdowns. Gwen Stacy- Perfect blend of screaming and singing; musical aspect can be a bit lacking/repetitive, but I still like them. Haste the Day- Awsome guitar riffs and great screaming; don't listen to their new CD, Dreamer: It takes a few steps back from the band's normal level of awesomeness, in my opinion. If you already listen to those, I've got more... Can someone recommend some good punk rock/alternative rock? |

Uh. Ch'yeah. :D Check out Anberlin. They're punk with a teensy bit of background screamo--I'd suggest "Dismantle. Repair." or "There Is No Mathematics To Love And Loss." Same with Armor For Sleep: "The Truth About Heaven" or "Chemicals" Chiodos is screamo/post-hardcore. Try out "There's No Penguins In Alaska" Halifax is heavy pop-punk. If that makes sense. Try out "Under Fire" or "Hey Italy" And of course I have to dish out some Panic At The Disco, whether you asked for them or not. "When The Day Met The Night" and "Camisado" contrast their main styles--their old album is techno and baroque...their new album is some baroque/psychadelic punk. |

Jefu: Royden is screamo. as for Tyvoke, try Loudermilk. Some "If you like ____ Try _____" recommendations; If you like Alice in Chains, try Totimoshi - a little calmer, but still has grunge attitude (The Shame, To The Fire) If you like Panic at the Disco (old style), try Metric - less pop-punk, more indie (Patriarch on a Vespa, Ending Start) If you like Panic at the Disco (new style), try The Dresden Dolls - punk cabaret ftw. (Gravity, Girl Anachronism) If you like Cobra Starship, try Kiss Kiss - a little less dancy, but still a lot of fun. Now with electric violin! (Satellite, Machines) If you like Chiodos, try Coheed and Cambria - prog-pop-punk. (Devil in Jersey City, The Crowing) If you like Rise Against, try Loudermilk - fun punk rock stuff. (Juin, Mai) If you like System of a Down, try Fair to Midland - similar style, just a lot... quieter. XD (Walls of Jericho, Dance of the Manatee) If you like Aiden, try Royden - emo ahoy! (Murder of an Albatross, Broken Star Satellite) If you like Death Cab for Cutie, try Psapp - they invented their own genre, dontcha know. >D> (Calm Down, This Way[/b] If you like Pink Floyd, try Porcupine Tree - British prog! (Even Less, Trains) If you like Fall Out Boy, try the pillows - you know, the guys who did the music for FLCL? Just as catchy, and Japanese. (Last Dinosaur, She is Perfect) If you like "Weird Al" Yancovic or Lemon Demon, try Blotto - I only have 2 songs and I'll have to send them to you, but don't worry, I can probably get more later. (She's Got a Big Boyfriend, My Baby's the Star of a Driver's Ed Movie) If you like The Dear Hunter, try As Tall As Lions - Casey sent a thank-you to them in Act I if I remember right :3 (Ghost of York, The Carousel) If you like Modest Mouse, try Moros Eros - I honestly don't know how the two are connected, except my Moros Eros cd said so. XD (I Saw the Devil Last Night, I Will Come Back Again) If you like any other music, try The Detachment Kit - they span genres, so there's something for everyone. (Ricochet, The Race) Aaand that's it. |

EVERYBODY SHOULD LISTEN TO HEAD AUTOMATICA THEY IS AWESOME *shot* Now seriously. Personal favorites are marked with a *. Bayside - Alternative; I reccomend their album The Walking Wounded (more specifically, "The Walking Wounded" and "They're Not Horses, They're Unicorns"), and -not- the newer album, Shudder. Breathe Carolina - Electronica/Screamo; the only song I've actually listened intently to was "No Vacancy", but they're good nevertheless. Bring Me the Horizon - Metal/Screamo; not really any comment from me here. Daphne Loves Derby - Alternative/Indie; I personally like "Cue the Sun!", "The Best Part About It, Honey", and "How's It Going To End?". Halifax - Alternative/Punk; adding onto what PG suggested, "Sydney". *Head Automatica - Alternative/Pop-Punk; I reccomend the entire Decadence album (specifically "Beating Hearts Baby"). From the other album, Propaganda, I reccomend "God". (I might say that the lyrics for the Decadence album are a little... disturbing, to say the least. Like past PG-13 disturbing.) Matchbook Romance - Alternative; I reccomend "Monsters" and "Fiction". The Morning Of - Alternative/Indie; "Reverie" and "Pilot to Base". Nightmare of You - Alternative/Indie; "Thunbellina" and "Why Am I Always Right?". Phantom Planet - Indie/Pop; "Do The Panic" and "Leader". Punchline - Alternative/Indie; "Get off my Train!" and "The Other Piano Man". *Rooney - Indie/Pop; "Blueside" and "I'm Shakin'". *Stars - Indie/Electronica; "Death to Death", "B*tches In Tokyo" (without the censor) and "Set Yourself On Fire". Story of the Year - Alternative/Rock; "Apathy is a Deathwish", "Pay Your Enemy' and "And The Hero Will Drown". *Straylight Run - Indie/Alternative; "This Is The End", "The Tension and the Terror" and "Sympathy For the Martyr". The Summer Obsession - Alternative; "8am" and "Over My Head". Vanilla Sky - Alternative; Some songs are in Spanish (at least I'm pretty sure it's Spanish o_o), I reccomend "Nightmare", and also "Goodbye" (English version) / "Se Vuoi Andare Vai" (Spanish version). A few more bands; 3 - A prog rock band.. the voice reminds me somewhat of Claudio Sanchez (Coheed & Cambria). "A Serpent in Disguise" and "All That Remains" Foxy Shazam - Really crazy altern.rock. Listen to "The French Passion of Animality Opera" or "Ghost Animals". Framing Hanley - Hard-to-explain rock. "23 Days" and/or "Hear Me Now". The Kooks - Indie rock. Listen to "Naive" Meg & Dia - a.k.a The Meg & Dia Band, indie/some acoustic. "Monster", "Yellow Butterfly" and "Indiana" You Me at Six - British pop punk. "This Turbulence is Beautiful. Be Your Own Pet - Indie punk... kinda garage-ish. "Becky" and "Zombie Graveyard Party" Edited by Moofzz, Nov 16 2008, 03:17 PM.

I have to say Death Magnetic, the new Metallica album, is epic. Emphasis on "The Day that Never Comes," "All Nightmare Long," and "The Unforgiven III." If you are the kind of person who doesn't mind lustening to music in other languages, then you might like some of these Brazilian bands. (The first three actually sing in English.) Angra: Power metal - "Carry On" "Rebirth" "Heroes of Sand" Shaaman: Power metal - "Innocence" "More" "Fairy Tale" Sepultura: Death metal - "Roots Bloody Roots" "Arise" Titãs: Punk rock and later pop rock - "Flores" "O Pulso" "Bichos Escrotos" "Homem Primata" Os Paralamas do Sucesso: Brazilian rock - "Meu Erro" "Alagados" "Aonde Quer Que Eu Vá" Legião Urbana: Punk rock and later pop rock - "Geração Coca-Cola" "Tempo Perdido" "Ainda É Cedo" Charlie Brown Jr.: Pop punk, Hardcore punk (among others) - "Como Tudo Deve Ser" "Lutar Pelo Que É Meu" "Não Deixe o Mar Te Engolir" Pitty: Alternative rock - "Na Sue Esante" "Semana Que Vem" "Teto de Vidro" Tihuana: General rock - "Tropa de Elite" "Renata" "Pula" Edited by Shed, Nov 10 2008, 10:04 PM.

EE's Epic Music Suggestion List. Of doom. Muse: Awesome Prog/Alternative band. YOU MUST LISTEN TO THEM NOW. Kthxbai. Rise Against: Melodic hardcore- generally epic, especially the stuff from their latest album. Thrice: EPIC WIN. Experimental/Post-Hardcore band- their style varies an unbelievable amount between albums, and even within the same album sometimes, but it's always amazing music. My personal favorites are "Paper Tigers" and "Flame Deluge", some of their louder works. Between the Buried and Me: There are no words to describe their genre. Something sorta metal-ish, but influenced by a ton of styles. But it's really good. "White Walls" and "Sun of Nothing" are favorites of mine. Atreyu: Great metalcore band. The vocals on "Creature" are incredible, and "Blow" is really catchy. Snow Patrol: Alternative Rock, a lot slower than much of what I listen to, but still a great band. Their vocalist has amazing skills, particularily on "Chasing Cars" and "Run". The Killers: Haven't heard many of their songs yet, but they seem like a pretty good Indie/Alternative rock band. "Mr. Brightside" is an awesome song, in particular, though "Tranquilize" is also catchy. Sky Eats Airplane: Again, I haven't heard many of their songs. They seem a bit... unusual, from what I've heard, but still worth listening to. |

Also, Bullet for my Valentine is pretty good. They're metalcore, not screamo, though they do have quite a bit of screaming in their songs. Then there's Smashing Pumpkins. Alternative Rock, their vocals are a bit... unusual at times, and some people hate them, but I don't really mind. "Bullet with Butterfly Wings" is their most famous song, but "Zero" is probably my favorite. |

I've heard such mixed opinions on Death Magnetic. From what I've heard of it, they definitely have better stuff imo. I only actually have a bundle of their 'best'/more known songs (a friend made me a Metallica CD, lol) though, so I'm no expert. But I might have to look into it more if only for The Unforgiven III. Unforgiven II is soo good. Anyway, someone be cool and get into post-rock. Explosions in the Sky, God is an Astronaut, This Will Destroy You, Mogwai, etc. |

I won't fool you, I don't find Death Magnetic their absolute best. I'm no expert either, but I absolutely adore the songs from the black album. Yet, much of Death Magnetic is very good as well. I downloaded The Unforgiven III before getting the album because the two other Unforgiven songs are among my favorite Metallica material. It's very different from the others, but you can still hear some of the original tune in it, and it's still very good. Oh, one Brazilian band I forgot to mention that you might all like is CPM22. They have pretty good stuff in general, but the song I have in mind is "Escolhas, Provas e Promessas." |
