RUN HE IS BESIDE YOU
So I suppose I'm joining NaNoWriMo because it seems like a good idea. But I've already hit a writer's block and it hasn't even started yet.

I know my character's name must be Rex. It just MUST. Secondly, it must be somewhat similar to the novel 'Around the World in Eighty Days'. Additionally, I must become English and use English phrases, and be serious while doing so. Except for some optional satire scattered around. Last, I want one character added to another added to another, and all against one opposing group or force over some kind of strange dare, deed, or over the protagonists' own wills.

Any idea at all would be appreciated, whether it be about the plot, a last name, or genre. Whatever, just post something.

nope
Hm.
Maybe the characters have to travel around in different continents to find parts of some sort of key so that they can get into a temple with lots of treasure?
I dunno. D8

As I'm in a Creative Writing class (and considering Nanowrimo myself), allow me to give you some of the best tips I got.

Before you start to write, come up with a complete character. These are the basics of a complete character:
NAME is an ADJECTIVE X-year-old NOUN who wants SOMETHING.
Where you substitute all the caps-locked words. Every (good) character is driven by a want, and that is one of the strongest defining aspects of his/her personality.
I like to start with a main idea of what's going to happen throughout the story, but that's not necessary. Just be sure not to make that main idea too strict--when you're actually writing, you should allow the character to decide what s/he wants to do, and pre-defining the plot may force the character to make choices s/he normally wouldn't.

If you have a complete character and a main idea for the plot, that should be enough to get you started. I hope it helps.

Characters against the protagonist's own will sounds like a really cool idea. What Rex is doing could garner up some 'interest' of people who try to stop him or something.
Also, writing buddies? My name on the NaNo site is Kyriaki.

Tell me the truth this time, why don't you.
Rex is a BREETISH Pokémon trainer who wants to travel the 5000 regions of the Pokémon world and catch 'em all. Unfortunately, Team Rocket is there to stop him. =P

In all seriousness, do you want it set on Earth or on some fictional world? Have him following something, like some mythical creature or a treasure that has eluded him. And draw maps of the world and flesh it out, even if it is Earth. You can do it, there's two days to the competition still.

...So you're doing NaNo as well? Good luck~
