Pan's Labyrinth- At first I was reluctant to watch this movie. My friend, who informed me about Pan's Labyrinth, told me about it briefly mentioning its graphic content and subtitles, which honestly turned me away from the movie for a little bit. Eventually, I gave in and decided to watch it with him. Surprisingly, I had very few problems with this movie despite my low tolerance for violence, and after finishing it, it easily won its place at the top of my favorite movies list. I've always somehow generalized Del Toro's movies as cliche' comic book horrors, but Pan's Labyrinth came to me as shocking with its soft fairy tale side with Ofelia and the cruel sadistic war happening whilst Ofelia completes her tasks. The story has captured my imagination from the very beginning and enthralled me throughout the entire movie. The acting was genuine and absorbed me into the movie and added a realistic feel to it. The visuals were outstanding and the creatures were also very realistic. Of course, this movie is still rated R. I would not recommend this movie to children, but it is easily one of the best movies of 2006. |
