Summon Night - Twenty Years Later
-Introduction-

Tera smiled. It was time yet again for the Tournament, in which a new, young Craftlord was supposed to arise to take the place of a deceased one. It was only two years ago that Master Rondeau, the Craftlord of Diamond and also the head of all the Craftlords, had died. Master Sakuro had taken his place by Master Rondeau's dying wish, and since that day the Craftlords had been missing a member.

"Tera, what are you smiling about? And why are you all the way up here?" Pratty, the Craftlord of Iron, had placed her hand upon Tera's shoulder, making her snap out of her thoughts. "You shouldn't be wandering about on the fourth story of Wystern. The construction is still going on, if you hadn't noticed."

"Oh! I'm sorry Master Pratty! I guess I just waned a place to relax after getting told that the new Tournament was going to be happening soon." Tera sighed, and turned to face Pratty. "I wish Master Rondeau never died. He was really nice."

"I think everyone wishes that, Tera. Master Rondeau was a nice man, but he was getting old. It was just his time to go. It's a good thing Sakuro was able to return from his trip when he did, or else I don't think we'd even have a head Craftlord." Pratty sighed. "I still remember the day he asked me to go with him..." She muttered under her breath.

"Did you say something, Master Pratty?" Tera asked. She glanced at the sea, where the fringes of sunlight were just beginning to appear over the open sea.

"Nothing." Pratty noticed Tera looking at the sunrise. She smiled. "Beautiful, isn't it? It's almost as if all the flames' and coals' colors were put into the sky." She put an arm around Tera, and turned her back to the stairs going down to the next floor of the city. "I think it's time for you to return to the Silver Guild. Knowing Sanary, she'll be pretty angry if you don't get back soon."

Tera gave Pratty a wave goodbye, and ran off down to the first level of Wystern. Her dull orange hair flowed behind her in pigtails. She was running to fast by the time she reached the Silver Guild's door, and rammed right into Sanary as she opened the door.

"Tera! Where the hell have you been!?" Sanary shouted, her long, pink, pony-tailed hair swishing around at her knees. Although she wore pink and grey, she was hardly what you'd call a girly-girl. She was one of the most stubborn people in Wystern.

"Extremely sorry, Sanary! I was just in a hurry to get back!" Tera looked at the sky again, and noticed that it was about an hour since she had been at the fourth floor of Wystern. She had been running so much that she had forgotten to watch where she was going, and she must have run all over the city.

Sanary and Tera walked into Sanary's workroom, where she worked and was most of the time. A man in green and blue robes was sitting in a chair, smiling happily. "No way! A Summoner!? I'm gonna get a Guardian Beast?!"

"Of course! You didn't think you'd be able to fight in the Tournament without one, did you?" Sanary said. The Summoner got up and approached the two girls, who were now standing in the middle of the room.

"Don't be so hard on the child, Sanary. She's been raised well. Allow me to ask her some questions." The Summoner said, his nice voice calming Tera from all the excitement. "First, what do you think of Rondeau?"

"Hmm..." Tera thought for a moment. "I'd like to be more like him. He was so successful and I want to be successful, too."

"Okay." The Summoner said. "Now, what do you think is most important to Craftknights?"

"I think that consideration for living things is more important. I mean, forging is important too, but you have to maintain the balance of nature."

"Good answer." The Summoner said. Sanary's facial expression looked annoyed, but she stayed quiet. "Now, what does love mean to you?"

Tera hesitated before answering. This question could decide her fate, so she wanted to answer it correctly. "Protecting someone from harm."

The Summoner nodded, took out a small gem, and threw it into an empty spot of the
room. He chanted a few words that Tera could not understand, and the gem rose up
into the air. It began glowing and spinning, until it transformed into an orb of energy. In a flash, the orb turned into a small, green fluffy ball.

"Kutty!" The ball burst outward to reveal that it was a small, animal-like creature. It had a red hat and gloves. It's big, shiny, black eyes stared at Tera. "Kutty?" It asked.

"Oh! Um....... I'm Tera." Tera seemed to understand the creature's language somehow. "Your name is?"

"This is Kutty, Tera!" Sanary said. She looked a little impressed. "It seems that you got one of the rarest Summon Beasts. This one isn't even found in the Labyrinth."

Kutty floated over to Tera and sniffed her. It's squirrel-like tail fluffed out, and it took one of it's gloved paws and punched Tera directly in the face. "Kutty! Kutty!" It began laughing.

"Quite an odd sense of humor you have there." Tera said, rubbing her cheek. Kutty stopped laughing, and started punching Tera in the face several times. "Okay, okay! Ouch! Alright! Ow! I'm sorry!" She shouted.

The Summoner had left a while ago, but Sanary was still there, enjoying the show. She was fighting back laughter. "Okay, Kutty. I think it's time for you two to get your workroom."

Sanary led the two upstairs, to an empty room. She flicked on the light switch to reveal a furnace and a bed with a hammer lying on it. "Here you go. Don't forget to get your Entrance Ticket for the meeting. You can't get in without it." Sanary left the room, leaving Kutty and Tera alone.

"Kutty!" Kutty called out. He turned to Tera, and she saw that he had a small piece of paper in his mouth.

"Hey! My entrance ticket! Thanks, Kutty!" Tera ran over to get it, and it ripped in half from Kutty's mouth. "Oh well. We can still get in." Tera and Kutty then went to the Central Tower, where they were able to get into the big Gathering Hall, where many other contestants were. They were soon surrounded by many people, most of them being around Tera's age, which was 13.

After a while, the meeting began. Three people came out onto the stage; three Craftlords. The one in red and grey talked first. It was Pratty. "Thank you all for coming here today." Many cheers were heard from the crowd. "It has been two long years since Master Rondeau has passed on. The time has come for us to appoint a new Craftlord to refill the open position.

Another Craftlord began to speak. "As you must know, most of us could not be here today for one reason or another. But that isn't important. It's time we got down to business. " It was Razzy, the Craftlord of Amber. Her short brown hair was tucked under a yellow handkerchief that matched her bodysuit, which had long, brown leather strings dangling from the back.

Yet another one began to speak. This time it was Ureksa, the Craftlord of Jade. "As you have heard, the Tournament is not open for regular submission. You parents or mentors have signed you up, which is why you have received your Entrance Tickets in the mail." He flicked his hair out of his view of the crowd.

A person next to Tera moved slightly as Ureksa talked. It was a boy that looked about her age, but he was also the splitting image of the Ureksa from when Ureksa was that age. "Hey, who are you?" Tera asked him.

The boy was looking down at the time when Tera asked him the question. He looked up, surprised. "Oh. Um, I'm Kaeda." He looked up at Ureksa. "That's my dad."

"Oh. I was wondering why you looked like him. I'm Tera, by the way." Tera said. She realized that her attention had wandered from the speeches the Craftlords were giving.

"So we hope that one of you will be able to make it to the top!" Razzy said. "You will be receiving a key to the Labyrinth by tonight, and you will receive your first match notice within a day."

"And you must remember three simple principles all Craftknights must follow." Pratty said.

"A sword is not strength." Razzy said.

"A sword is not skill." Ureksa stated, with an odd glance at Pratty's hammer.

"A sword is not fellowship." Pratty finished. "Remember these principles, and you will achieve great things."

"And with that, the meeting is adjourned." Ureksa said. He turned away and walked through a back door, his green coat and white scarf trailing off behind him. Razzy followed his action next, then Pratty did the same.

Tera looked at Kaeda, who was messing with the end of his green scarf. His outfit resembled his father's, except it was smaller and the colors were mixed around. He noticed Tera staring at his coat, and said, "Yeah. I know. My dad said it had hidden armor, so he got me one. I never figured it would be so warm." He rubbed the edge of his black coat.

Some girl with long, yellow hair approached them. "So, Kaeda. I see you're hiding next to this newbie." She flicked her hair and gave a small laugh. Seeing Tera's annoyed look, she added. "I bet he could beat you with a blindfold on and one hand tied behind his back. Oh, wait. That's anyone for that matter."

Kutty growled and lunged in her direction. The girl stood there, calm as she could be,. A small, blue creature that resembled a dandelion seed with a water droplet for the seed section rammed into Kutty, knocking him into Tera. Tera fell over, and desperately tried to hold Kutty down from lunging at the girl again.

"Just who do you think you are, anyway?!" Tera shouted. She wasn't causing much attention seeing as most people were already gone.

"Oh, I think I'm Carriye. The daughter of the Gold Guild's manager, Varil. And you are Tera. A small commoner of no importance." The girl said. With that, she and her Guardian Beast walked away, her blue dress' yellow ribbon trailing behind her as she left.

Summon Night: Twenty Years Later
-Day 1-1-

Tera and Kaeda were left to watch Carriye walk away along with the rest of the crowd. They were the only two left in the Gathering Hall, other than a small kid. The kid had brown hair in a ponytail and tan skin. The kid also was wearing a yellow outfit.

“Hey! Kid!” Tera said. “Who’re you? You look so young, you can’t possibly be in the Tournament!”

The kid looked up, and showed big, brown, sparkly eyes. “Um…. I’m Baizhe. And I’m a lot stronger than I look.”

(Aww! She’s so adorable!) Tera thought to herself. “I’m Tera. And this is Kaeda.” She pointed to herself and Kaeda in the order she said their names. “That’s great that a little girl like you would be able to fight in this Tournament.”

Baizhe giggled. “Thanks. Hey, can I come with you? You’re both members of the Silver Guild, right? So am I!”

“Sure, Baizhe.” Kaeda said. The three then went back out to the main streets of the city and then to the Silver Guild. It was already sunset. It seemed to Tera that it was sunrise just a few hours ago.

When they got back to the Silver Guild, they each went to their own rooms. Tera was relieved to fall face-first onto her bed. She looked outside where the moon was making a beautiful light fall onto everything.

“Kutty.” Kutty stated. He looked out the window as well. “Kutty?”

“You want to go for a walk? Sure. How about the fourth floor?” Tera said. Kutty nodded. “Alright then, let’s go.” She got up and the two of them went up to the forth floor of Wystern as quietly as they could.

After a few minutes it started to get cold. The wind from the ocean was blowing fast at them. Kutty shivered and leaned up against Tera’s legs. “Cold, huh? Well, it’s colder in Vance. I’ve been there once. There’s snow everywhere. You’d love the snow, Kutty.”

Tera realized that Kutty was falling asleep, so she carried him back to the Silver Guild. After setting him on a towel near the furnace, she soon fell asleep as well.

“Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!” Baizhe was jumping on her bed. It was a little past sunrise, by the looks of where the sun was. “Sanary, she’s awake now!” Baizhe said, jumping onto the floor. She had her hands cupped around her mouth to make her sound louder.

Sanary walked into the room with a key and an envelope in her hands. “This is your Labyrinth Key, and this is your first Match Notice.” She said, throwing the two items at Tera’s bed. “Oh, and you’ll need to make a weapon before you start training for the match. So here’s here is a Sword Technique.” She tossed a rolled-up piece of paper at Tera.

“Will you…… need any help?” Baizhe was looking at the Sword Technique over Tera’s shoulder. “I’ve made a few before. But I prefer Knuckle weapons, like my mom does.”

Tera hadn’t quite noticed Baizhe’s resemblance to Razzy until just now. “I think me and Kutty can handle it, Baizhe. Thank you, though.” Baizhe shrugged and walked out of the room, allowing Tera to change into her clothes and get the materials she had bought a few days before.

“Okay, so just melt this down.” She said, tossing some kind of metal thing into the fire of the furnace. “And then stick this in there and turn it.” She stuck in a metal rod and turned it for a few minutes, then took it out to reveal a blob of red-hot metal. “And hammer it now.” She started hammering it into the shape of the sword, while Kutty applied his powers of wind onto it, strengthening it.

After about an hour, the weapon was done. Kutty and Tera then went to the Labyrinth to train. After a few hours, they came out with a broken sword. Tera sighed. “I guess we still have a lot to work on.”

“I’ll say. That’s a pathetic weapon.” Carriye had come out of the Labyrinth a few moments after them. Her sword was at her side, shining as if it was still brand-new.

“Carriye, why don’t you just stuff it?” Tera asked.

“Because I don’t have to listen to you.” Carriye said, and glared at Tera with a condescending look.

“Carriye, Tera. Stop fighting. You’re acting like a bunch of babies.” Kaeda had appeared from the Labyrinth so quietly it was as if he had just appeared out of thin air. He looked at Tera’s broken sword. “You hammered it too much.”

“What?” Tera said.

“Your sword. You hammered it too much. So it’s thin. That’s why it broke.” Kaeda said.

“Oh. Thanks.” Tera said. Carriye was walking off already. She apparently had better things to do than argue with Tera and get told off by a Craftlord’s son. Tera glared at her.

“I wouldn’t worry about her. She’s always like that.” Kaeda said. “Why don’t we go back to the Silver Guild? You need to fix that weapon.”

Kaeda and Tera went back to the Silver guild and with Kaeda’s help, Tera’s sword was fixed. Then, as Tera was admiring her sword, Baizhe came in. She giggled, then said, “It looks like you got a better sword, Tera! I told you that you needed help with the first one!”

“You did?” Kaeda asked. He started laughing. “You…. You should have listened, Tera. Baizhe is pretty good at making blades perfect.”

Tera hid her face in her hands and blushed. The thought that she needed help from an eight year-old was so embarrassing. And for some reason, Kaeda being here made it worse. “At least I have a good weapon that won’t break now.”

Kaeda stopped laughing and left. Baizhe looked at the door, then at Tera, and giggled. “What’s that about?” Tera asked. Baizhe just giggled a bit more, tilted her head, and walked out of the room, leaving Tera confused and Kutty tired.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 1-2

Kutty collapsed on the towel next to the furnace. Tera yawned, even thought it was a little past noon. “Kutty. We got to get to our first match.”

“Kutty!” Kutty sprung up, as if he had forgotten. “Kutty.” He said, pointing to the envelope on Tera’s table. Tera walked over to the table and opened the envelope and read it’s contents.

“So our first battle is against someone named Yuri?” Tera said, folding up the piece of paper and sticking it back into the envelope. “From the Gold Guild, it said.” Kutty led Tera out the door, and they both went to the main building, which everyone had started to refer to as the “Castle” for one reason or another.

At the Castle’s entrance, Tera decided to go down into the Labyrinth for some last-minute training. At the end of the first level, she saw Carriye, standing in front of the window looking out into the sea. “Carriye?” She asked.

“Hm?” Carriye turned around. “Oh, it’s just you.” She turned back to face the window. “It’s peaceful here. Master Kouren told me about this place before.”

“It is peaceful. It’s too bad the ocean doesn’t look like this from the fourth floor.” Tera said.

“Well, you have to be below the ocean surface to see the fish. Oh! Look! There’s that one long purple one!” Carriye said, and pointed to a big, long purple fish. She smiled. “Your match is up next, right?”

“Yeah.” Tera said, still in wonder about the stuff that was below the sea’s surface that she had stared at for so many years.

“I think I’ll come and watch.” Carriye said, and left off to the battle room, with Tera following behind her. “Good luck. You’ll need it against Yuri.”

Tera walked on one side of the big circle in the middle of the room. Cheers were heard from the stands as a girl with really short green hair stepped out, carrying a spear. The spear was crafted quite nicely, and it looked heavy by the way Yuri was carrying it. It glowed green faintly.

Yuri was wearing a grey leather bodysuit, similar to Craftlord Razzy’s. Even the leather dangles were there, but they were green. Yuri’s green eyes were slits, and she was smiling menacingly.

Pratty stepped out onto the stand that was a few feet away from the moat that surrounded the circle. “Welcome to the fifth battle of the Tournament.” Cheers were heard. “Tera, from the Silver Guild, versus Yuri, from the Gold Guild. You may now summon your Guardian Beasts.”

Kutty was already at Tera’s side, but Yuri had yet to summon her Guardian Beast. She did so now, chanting a few words and having a small grey lemur-like creature appeared out of thin air next to her. It had a dark green-striped tail.

“Alright. You may now commence with the fifth Tournament battle.” Pratty said, raising her hands into the air.

Yuri rushed into Tera right as the words came out of Pratty’s mouth. Tera was able to block the attack. Yuri jumped backwards, staying out of Tera’s reach. Tera ran straight at her, sword extended. As soon as she was a few feet away, Yuri lashed out her spear, hitting Tera directly in the chest.

Tera’s armor saved her from most of the damage, but she felt as if she had been in a tornado. (That’s why!) Tera thought, looking at Yuri’s spear. (Her spear is enchanted with wind!) Tera rushed at her again, but this time jumped into the air as Yuri stuck out her spear. She did a backflip, and landed behind Yuri. Yuri looked back, but she couldn’t turn around due to her spear being too heavy to just whip around.

Tera took the opportunity to swipe into Yuri’s back three times. The, she jumped up, but she was surprised when Yuri twirled her spear in mid-air, knocking Tera down, and also knocking her out for a brief period of time. She opened her eyes to see Yuri standing over her, her heavy spear ready to slam down into her. She rolled out of the way and jumped back.

She muttered a few words, and Kutty appeared over her. His eye sparkled, he smiled menacingly, and whirled his fist around in a circle. It created a tornado, which spat out at Yuri, making her get carried up and up until she was spat out of the top, unconscious. The tornado disappeared, and so did Kutty.

Tera ran over to her, and repeatedly swiped her sword’s blade onto Yuri. Once Yuri woke up, she was weak. She jumped backwards, breathing heavily. She muttered something, and her Summon Beast appeared over her head. It first did something to make a green circle surround her feet, then it started firing small tornadoes at Tera’s feet.

Tera managed to dodge a lot of them, but was hit in the face by a bigger one. It was long, and she couldn’t see much. When the tornado finally cleared, Yuri was right in front of her, her sharp teeth put into a menacing smile once again. She slashed with her spear, and put a deep gash in Tera’s arm. Yuri jumped back.

Tera winced. She couldn’t move her arm. She had to use her right arm to use the sword now. She was weak; she felt as if she was going to fall over just then and lose. In a last attempt at winning, she closed her eyes, and threw her sword like a Frisbee at Yuri.

She heard a gasp, a thud, and Pratty’s voice. “The winner of the fifth round is Tera, from the Silver Guild!”

She could swear she heard cheering, and the weak voice of Yuri. “I’ll get you…. For…. This…..” Her eyes were still closed, and she collapsed onto the floor of the battle room.

She woke up in her workroom, her stomach and arm bandaged up. Baizhe, Kaeda and Carriye were in the room as well. Baizhe was sitting on the edge of her bed, smiling. Kaeda was standing on the other side of the room, smiling. Carriye was sitting in a chair hear the furnace, pouting.

“Congratulations, Tera. You’ve won your first match.” Kaeda said happily.

Baizhe jumped off of her bed and started jumping up and down on the floor. “You did it, you did it, you did it!”

Carriye left the room with a wave. Tera glared at her. “Like I said, don’t worry about her. She’s just going to go calm herself down right now. You probably won’t believe it, but she was worried about you during that battle.”

Tera sighed. “At least it’s over.” She got out of bed, and said, “I’m going to follow her.” Baizhe and Kaeda smiled and waved goodbye and then Tera left. She entered the first floor of the Labyrinth quietly, and was sure not to wake any of the sleeping monsters. She saw Carriye standing near the window, smiling and humming.

“Oh. Hello Tera.” Carriye said. “Tomorrow’s the day, huh…”

“The day for what?” Tera asked.

“My match. And Kaeda’s, for that matter.”

“Oh. Do you two have to fight each other?”

“No. I just feel kind of bad for him, since it is that day.”

“What day?” Tera was confused.

“The day his mother died.”

Tera was left in shock. “Oh…” She said quietly. “I… I didn’t know his mother died…”

“Did you think he never had one? Hey never talk about her, seeing as Kaeda and his dad are very sensitive about it.” Carriye walked over to Tera. She had stopped smiling. “His mother was murdered. By a person they never caught. They say it was the same person who killed Master Rondeau.”

“But I thought Master Rondeau died of old age!” Tera shouted. She quickly covered up her mouth. She didn’t want to wake the monsters.

“That’s just what the Craftlord want you to think. My father, Varil, knew about it. He told me.” She started to walk away. “Well, it’s getting late. I should go.”

Tera was left alone, staring out at the sea through the window. She frowned, and began to walk back to her room at the Silver Guild, her shoulders feeling heavier with burden than ever.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 2-1

Tera awoke to the soft sounds of the movements of Kutty. He was trying to look out the window, and was scraping the walls with the spikes on his Knuckles. “Kutty.” He pointed outside. It was grey. The sky was grey, the clouds were covering every inch of sky. The sea reflected the sky, and so it was also grey. The city was made of stone and metal, and so it only made things look gloomier.

Tera felt horrible. She hoped that she wouldn’t have a match today. After a few hours of laying in bed, Baizhe came to her room. “Tera?” She asked. “Um, will you come with me?”

Tera got out of bed and followed Baizhe to a hidden part of Wystern. It was a small tunnel leading into a cut-off part of the Labyrinth. There was dirt on the ground, and small rocks were scattered everywhere.

“Look.” Baizhe said, pointing to one. “It’s a tombstone.” Tera looked at all of the rocks; they all had writing on them. Baizhe looked up. “Someone’s coming.” The two went over to a side part of the cave, and hid in-between the cracks of the cave wall. They could see, but they couldn’t be seen by whomever was coming.

Kaeda walked out into the cavern, and walked straight ahead to the end of it, where two small tombstones lay. He stopped in front of one, put his head down, and dropped to his knees. Tera could swear she saw a tear fall from his hidden face.

She was just about to come out and see what was wrong, when she heard another person approaching. Ureksa stepped into the cavern, and approached his son. He placed his hand on his shoulder, and stared at the tombstone. Kaeda looked up at him, his eyes streaming with tears.

“Was she pretty, dad?” Kaeda asked his father. He had to say it in-between chokes.

“Yes.” Ureksa said. “Yes, she was beautiful.” He pulled his son up and pushed him to the exit of the cavern. “You have a match to get to. Allow me to mourn the loss of your mother.” Kaeda waited until his dad was back at the tombstone, and his on the other side of the cavern. He wasn’t going to leave any time soon.

After about an hour, Ureksa got up. As he did, he laughed. “So, I see you’ve followed me.” Tera shuffled further into her hiding spot in fear.

But it wasn’t her that he was addressing. A shadowy figure stepped into the cavern quietly. “You always were a magnet for sadness. Allow me to end that for you.” It held up a tattered, black-clothed arm, and fired out a purple orb.

Ureksa jumped at the last second and the orb disappeared into the cavern wall. He pulled out his spear and ran at the figure with surprising speed. He ran right through the figure. While his back was turned and he was frozen with shock, the figure struck. A purple orb absorbed itself into Ureksa’s body, and he was covered in electric sparks.

Tera forced back a gasp.

Ureksa jumped away, and muttered something, summoning his Guardian Beast, Pouso. Pouso took a big breath, and let out a green tornado. It phased through the shadowy figure as if it was nothing.

The figure tipped down it’s witch hat. It laughed a menacing, horrifying laugh. Ureksa lunged forward with all his might into the creature, his spear-tip hitting it’s face below the hat. The creature started to bleed a purple blood. It ripped the spear out of Ureksa’s hands, and made its arm into a purple sword shape, made of pure electric power.

It stabbed it into Ureksa, and it went clean through his body. He choked a few times, only ending up coughing out blood. “So… This is what I deserved… Jasphee, I’ll be with you soon….” His eyes closed, and the purple sword disappeared, making Ureksa’s corpse drop to the floor.

“Dad!” Kaeda screamed. “Dad!” He ran out of the hiding spot he had been in, and managed to trip on his way to his father’s corpse.

The shadowy figure began to form an orb, and it was then that Tera jumped out and grabbed Kaeda and with Baizhe’s help, quickly carried him to the Silver Guild.

“So. I have witnesses.” The shadowy figure said to the dead body laying at it’s feet. “I must be losing my touch, Ureksa. I managed to kill your wife and your leader without a trace of my existence but your memory. This time, I have three witnesses. Oh well. What can I do but destroy them?” It slowly walked over to the wall, and phased through it, heading into the Labyrinth.

Kaeda banged his fit on the table repeatedly. “How could I let this happen!? I Just stood there, hiding like a coward!” His fist began to bleed.

“Kaeda, it wasn’t your fault!” Tera shouted. Her, Kaeda and Baizhe were in Kaeda’s workroom. “Master Ureksa seemed to know that this was happening. That must have been why he told you to leave when he did.”

Kaeda turned over in his bed, leaving the room in a tense silence. Tera looked at him with a sad look on her face. Baizhe started crying.

It was almost night already. Kaeda had missed his match. But it didn’t matter. His father and mother were both dead. He was alone. And as the final minutes of the day passed over, all three of the Tournament contestants in Kaeda’s room shed at least one tear for the death of Ureksa, the Craftlord of Jade.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 2-2

Razzy suddenly came into Kaeda’s room. She sighed. “Kaeda. You’re lucky. The rest of the Craftlords heard what happened and they’re going to let you have your match right now.”

“Wait… Craftlord Razzy, how do you know?” Tera asked.

“Carriye also witnessed it.” Razzy answered. She pointed to the other side of the room, where Carriye was leaning against the wall. Her face was expressionless.

Razzy and Tera managed to convince Kaeda to fight his Tournament battle after a few minutes of provoking him. Razzy led the four to the battle hall, where Tera, Baizhe and Carriye went to the stands.

“It is now time for the eighth Tournament battle.” Cheers were heard. “Kaeda from the Silver Guild versus Zasta from the Gold Guild. You may now summon your Guardian Beasts.”

Kaeda spoke a few words, and a small, black fox-like creature appeared next to him. It had amber-colored eyes that seemed as if small flames were coming out of them.

Zasta was a rather tall teenage boy, with short black hair. He was wearing a blue leather long-sleeved shirt and brown leather pants. He summoned a small grey turtle-like creature and pulled out an ax.

Kaeda took out a skinny spear with several blades on the end. The blades glowed green and yellow.

“You may now commence with the eighth battle of the Tournament.” Razzy said.

Zasta and Kaeda stood still in their spots for a while. Kaeda looked down after a while and closed his eyes. Zasta ran at him, his ax behind him. As he got within range, he stopped and swung his ax, making his leg fly up in the air with the effort.

Kaeda opened his eyes and quickly jumped behind Zasta. As Zasta’s ax fell down onto the floor, he spun around his spear and cut Zasta in the back. Zasta fell down, but was able to mutter something. Before his Summon Beast could do anything, Kaeda stabbed the many blades of his spear into Zasta’s back.

“The winner is Kaeda of the Silver Guild.” Razzy said. Cheers were heard, but Kaeda didn’t seem to be enjoying his victory. As soon as Razzy’s sentence ended, he was out of the battle hall.

It was almost midnight and Kaeda wasn’t back to the Silver Guild yet. Tera decided to go find him, knowing almost exactly where he would be. As she entered the graveyard, she saw Kaeda sitting at the front of his mother’s grave. There was another tombstone next to it, and his father’s corpse had seemed to disappear.

“Kaeda, I’m sorry for everything that happened.” Tera said.

“It wasn’t your fault.” Kaeda said. “It was mine. I should have done something.”

“You would have just died too.” Tera said, walking over to sit next to him. She stared at the newest grave in front of her. It was Ureksa’s.

“At least I wouldn’t have been alone.” Kaeda said. He was about to cry.

“You’re not alone, Kaeda.” Tera said, looking at Kaeda and smiling. Kaeda looked at her, confused. “You have your friends.”

Kaeda laughed a little. “You have a point there.” He looked back at his parents’ graves.

“They’d be proud of you, Kaeda.” Tera said, patting Kaeda’s back and then getting up. “We need to get back to the Silver Guild. It’s almost midnight.”

Kaeda got up as well, but as Tera began walking back to the exit, he stayed where he was. “Tera… That thing…” Tera turned around. “It… It killed both my parents and Master Rondeau.” Tera’s eyes grew wide. “I’ll make it pay for what it’s done.” Kaeda clenched his hands into fists, and forced back tears.

“You’re not in this alone, Kaeda.” Carriye’s voice was heard from the exit. She smiled slightly.

“That’s right!” Baizhe said. She was also at the exit.

“See what I told you? You’ll never be alone.” Tera said. Kaeda turned around to face them, and smiled as tears rolled down his face. Then, they all went back to the Silver Guild and awaited a new day.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 3-1

Tera had woken up early to go train in the Labyrinth. After a few hours, she returned to her workroom, where a match notice lay on her floor. She opened it, and saw that her next opponent was someone from the Silver Guild named Skeeve. She sighed and decided to go see what everyone else was doing.

She bumped into Carriye in the hall. “Oh, Carriye. Do you have a match today?”

“Yes, actually. So does Baizhe and Kaeda.” Carriye said. “I’m going to mine right now.”

“So each of us has a match today? Wow. Not much time to do anything, huh?” Tera said. “Anyway, mind if I come along?”

“Not really.” Carriye said.

When they arrived at the battle hall, it ended up that Carriye’s opponent was Baizhe. As Craftlord Pratty announced for them to start, Carriye used her drill to plow into Baizhe, knocking her down.

“Stop being so tough on me!” Baizhe shouted at her.

“Oh, please. You’re gonna have to be a big boy some day.” Carriye said, striking the final blow into Baizhe with her drill. She giggled as she noticed that her drill wasn’t even dirty.

After the match, the four gathered in the hallway to wait for Tera’s match to start. “So Baizhe, you’re a boy?” Tera asked.

Baizhe blushed and rubbed the back of his head with his Knuckles. “Yeah. My mom also had that issue. Gender confusion runs in the family. It was fun pretending to be a girl, though. I got treated a lot nicer.”

“Don’t worry Baizhe. We’ll still treat you the same way.” Kaeda said.

Baizhe laughed a little. “Hey, Tera? Can I borrow your sword for a moment?” Tera handed over her (newly made) sword, and Baizhe used it to cut off the most of his ponytail. “There. Now no one can be confused.”

After a while, it was time for Tera’s match. Skeeve stepped out of the other side of the arena. He was a fat little boy, only a few years older than Baizhe. He had no hair at all, but he had a cowboy hat on. He was carrying an ax that seemed to heavy for him to even drag, much less carry.

As the battle started, he rushed at Tera, tripping over his own two feet and falling down. He layed there for a while, so Tera came over to him and touched his purple armor with her sword tip. Skeeve let out a wail, and got up, leaving his ax behind and running out through the door.

“Now for my turn.” Kaeda said when they were back out in the hall again.

“Good luck, Kaeda.” Tera and Baizhe said in unison.

Kaeda’s opponent was a girl that looked extremely like Carriye. She was wearing a white dress and a white witch hat. She blushed a little when she saw Kaeda. Her name was Vanessa, apparently.

“Hey, Carriye, is that person your sister or something?” Tera asked Carriye when the battle started.

“Yeah. She’s my twin.” Carriye said. “If you hadn’t noticed, she has a crush on Kaeda.” Carriye smirked a little as she saw Tera’s facial expression show a bit of anger.

Vanessa was putting up a good fight. She was managing to block every attack that Kaeda threw at her. Kaeda was starting to get annoyed, and tired as well. As he summoned his Summon Beast to attack Vanessa, Vanessa jumped behind him, dodging the black fox’s teeth. She rammed her drill into Kaeda’s back, and managed to splatter blood all over her white, lacy dress.

She giggled. “Look what you made me do, Kaeda.” She stepped over to Kaeda, who was now lying on the floor, and smiled menacingly. She placed her foot on his bottom so that he couldn’t get up and began to rev up her drill. However, he threw her off and as she went flying through the air, he lashed out with his multi-tipped spear and accidentally stabbed through Vanessa’s left arm.

Vanessa landed in the moat of water around the arena, and it was announced that Kaeda had won the match. He stared at his blood-covered spear and sighed. Then he cringed because of the wound in his back.

“That was an interesting match, Kaeda.” Carriye said as they returned to the Silver Guild. “I would have never expected that you would have stabbed my sister’s arm.”

“I didn’t mean to. It’s just the thing she did made me mad.” Kaeda said.

The four were interrupted by Sanary. “Hey, would you four mind coming with me to Vance? I have their weapon package they ordered, and I thought you four could use a break.”

“We’d love to, Sanary.” Tera said. Everyone went to the harbor, and after a while, they set off for the snowy town of Vance.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 3-2

The trip to Vance was pretty long. Although they had left a little after noon, it was only a couple hours until sunset now. It was naturally cold year-round in Vance, and it being winter and almost night didn’t help much. They were almost there, and Carriye and Kaeda were standing outside on the deck, looking at the upcoming town.

“Kaeda?” Carriye said. “I’ve been pondering on this for a while, and I want to see if my hypothesis is true. Why did you get angry when my sister put her foot on your behind?” Carriye was still staring at the horizon, as if this question wasn’t bothering her at all. It was obviously bothering Kaeda, due to his cheeks blushing a bit.

“Well, the reason is because I actually like someone right now.” Kaeda said.

Carriye smiled slightly. “So I was right.” She loved being right. “It’s someone we both know, right? Mind telling me? I’ll keep it a secret.”

“Well, it’s…” Tera and Baizhe coming out of the ship’s main cabin onto the deck interrupted Kaeda mid-sentence.

“Guys, we’re almost there!” Baizhe said. He was jumping up and down. Then he stopped and shivered. “Brr, it’s cold now without my long hair covering my neck.” Carriye took off her blue scarf and handed it to Baizhe, who wrapped it around his neck tightly. A muffled “Thanks!” was heard.

Tera ran forward to the very front of the ship, which just so happened to be in-between Carriye and Kaeda. The wind blew against her face as she smiled, allowing her red-haired pigtails to fly behind her, along with her brown scarf. She opened her eyes and stared at the fast-approaching town of Vance. “Beautiful, isn’t it?” She asked to no one in particular.

“It sure is.” Kaeda said, looking at Tera out of the corner of his eye. Carriye popped out from behind his view of Tera and gave him an I-knew-it look. Kaeda stumbled backwards a bit before running into the main cabin of the ship.

“What’s wrong with him?” Tera asked Carriye. She looked behind her at the door of the cabin, which slammed shut.

“Nothing.” Carriye said.

They arrived in Vance and found the Weapons Shop with ease. They went in, sold the weapons package, and returned to Sanary with the payment. “Okay, you guys deserve a break. Kaeda, you can go tell Master Rumari the bad news.”

“Right.” Kaeda said.

“Who’s Rumari?” Tera asked as Kaeda ran off back into town.

“Master Rumari is the former Craftlord of Jade, who had an incident with the now-gone Parista. She was afflicted with an extreme heat disease, and moved here, allowing her brother, Master Ureksa, to take her position of Craftlord.” Carriye said as she began to lead Tera and Baizhe to Rumari’s house.

Rumari was a pale woman who had light blonde hair. She smiled a lot, and it seemed as if she was about to explode with happiness as her nephew came inside. “Kaeda! How nice it is to see you! Where’s your father?”

Kaeda looked down, then looked Rumari straight in the eyes. “He-he’s dead, Master Rumari. That’s the only reason I’m here.”

“Oh…..” Rumari turned around to the kitchen part of her house, and opened a locked drawer with a key. She took out a small, brown box and returned to Kaeda, tears in her eyes. “Here. He told me to give this to you if this ever happened.”

Kaeda took the box and stuffed it into his cloak, making it seemingly unnoticeable. “Thank you.” He turned around to the cracked door, in which Tera, Carriye and Baizhe were looking in. Then as Rumari began to speak again, he turned back.

“Kaeda, I hope this won’t be our last good-bye.” Rumari said. “I hope so for your sake, and your friends’.” She smiled slightly, and looked at the door. Kaeda spun around to face them, his eyes full with worry and annoyance.

He led them away from Rumari’s house, where they sat down on a cold bench while Kaeda stood in front of them. He crossed his arms, and sighed. “How much did you see!?” He screamed.

“Not much, we only heard the last sentence that Rumari said.” Carriye said.

“Oh, and Tera somehow ended up there before us, so she said was able to see a box or something.” Baizhe said, kicking his legs in the snow beneath the bench.

Kaeda stared at Tera with annoyance, then walked away in the direction of the lighthouse. Tera stood up and followed him quietly. Carriye and Baizhe looked at each other, and got up. Baizhe tried to run after them, but he was dragged away in the direction of the harbor. “Not today, Baizhe. Let’s go wait for them at the harbor.” Carriye said.

Kaeda had made it to the top of the lighthouse by means of a back staircase. He was at the top, looking out at the now dark sky and sea. The lighthouse had been closed many, many years before due to monsters, and further closed after his father had jumped off of it once.

He took out the box and opened it, revealing a small scrap of paper. He read it aloud. “Dear Kaeda, If you are reading this it must mean I have been killed by a strange monster, and you must have been witness to my death. I beg of you, do not let anyone else find or read this note.” Kaeda instantly stopped reading aloud. Tera had just come up the ladder from listening once Kaeda closed the box, which had the letter in it.

Kaeda set the box down in front of him, and opened it, revealing that the note was crumpled up. He took out a match and threw it into the box, lit. The paper erupted in flames, and he closed the box. He let the flames seep out of the edges of the box before kicking it into the ocean.

“Kaeda, could you tell me what’s going on?” Tera asked, putting her hand on Kaeda’s shoulder, making him jump.

“No.” Kaeda said simply, and slapped Tera’s arm away from him. “I just need for you to stay away from me, please.” He began to walk to the ladder.

“This is the place where your father tried to commit suicide, isn’t it?’ Tera asked.

“Yes. Now come on. We need to get back to Wystern soon.”

“No!” Tera shouted, she turned around and grabbed Kaeda by the arm as he was about to descend the ladder. “Tell me what that note said, please!”

“Tera! I just can’t, okay!” Kaeda said, lashing out with his arm, and accidentally slapping Tera in the face. Tera began to cry. “No, I’m sorry. I’ll tell you, okay? Just stop crying. I’m sorry.” He said.

He took a big breath. “The note basically said that that… that thing… it killed Master Rondeau and my mother. And it’s going to kill all he Craftlords and anyone close to them, and anyone close to them as well. Which would mean I’m in danger, Rumari’s in danger, Baizhe’s in danger, all the Craftlord are in danger, and…” He paused before speaking again. “You’re in danger.”

“How am I in danger? I’m Baizhe’s friend? I’m your friend?” Tera asked.

Kaeda began to climb down the ladder. “No. You’re in danger because… because….” He stopped climbing. “Look, just ask Carriye!”

Tera stayed up on the top of the lighthouse for a little, before realizing what he meant. She looked at the ocean for a while, thinking. “I guess so…” She said to herself, before suddenly disappearing into a cloud of black mist with a scream.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 3-3

As Kaeda returned to the ship, he saw Baizhe and Carriye sitting on the railing. Carriye looked a little startled when she didn’t see Tera walking alongside him. She jumped off the railing and walked to Kaeda. “Where’s Tera?” She asked.

“I don’t know. I expected her to follow me, but I guess she’ll be here in a moment.” Kaeda replied. He shivered. It was cold in Vance and it was late, of course, but Carriye thought he could be shivering for another reason.

They watched the direction of the lighthouse, patiently awaiting Tera’s return to the ship. It had been a few minutes before they heard a faint scream. They were all sitting on the railing, so Kaeda and Carriye jumped off when they heard it. They looked at each other and nodded. They knew it was Tera.

It was now of course that Sanary came out of the cabin. “I heard the scream, too. But don’t go. It’s late and I promised Master Sakuro I’d be back before midnight.”

“But what about Tera!?” Baizhe said, jumping off the railing.

“We’ll have to come back tomorrow. We can’t risk it. Master Sakuro said…” Sanary said, but she was cut off by Kaeda.

“I don’t give a damn what Master Sakuro says about this! We’re already here, and besides, that’s our friend in trouble!” Kaeda said.

“I know, but…” Sanary was cut off once again, this time by Carriye.

“Kaeda. We can’t do much now. It’s already happened, whatever it was. Who knows? Tera could be dead. Just live with it.”

“I’m sorry Carriye, but I refuse to accept that.” Kaeda said rather matter-of-factly, and turned around to leave the ship. Carriye tacked him, and the ship began to sail off. He managed to struggle free of Carriye’s grasp, and he jumped off the end of the boat, just barely grabbing the edge of the docks.

“No! Kaeda!” Baizhe said. He tried to jump after him, but Carriye grabbed the ends of his scarf, keeping him on the boat.

“There’s not much we can do. It was his decision. He’ll just be stuck in Vance until we get back tomorrow night.” Carriye said, and the two of them stared at the distant and disappearing seaside town of Vance.

Kaeda panted. He had run all the way to the lighthouse and practically up the ladder. Tera wasn’t there. “Tera?” He asked quietly. A door leading to the dungeon part of the lighthouse. “Great.” He said. “She’s in there.”

After going down a couple floors, he saw Tera, tied up on the floor with a cloth over her mouth. He ran over to her to untie her, and all the while she gave muffled screams. When he saw her eyes widen, he knew the thing was behind him.

Kaeda quickly turned around only to get a purple orb absorbed into him. He fell on top of Tera, who squirmed under his weight. The shadowy figure began laughing maniacally. “So, I can dispose of you both now…” It walked in front of the two teenagers and continued talking. “You see, I hope to make all the Craftlords fall, leaving no one to protect the town of Wystern, much less the evils that lie beneath it.” It’s hand turned into a purple sword and it began to strike.

Kaeda whipped out Tera’s sword and slashed the creature across the face. As it stepped back, He picked Tera up and ran out of the lighthouse as fast as he could. Not knowing where to go, he ran to Rumari’s house.

“Oh my. Your friend is scratched up quite badly, Kaeda.” Rumari said. She hurried to get medicine and things to heal Tera.

After Tera explained to Kaeda and Rumari what had happened, she decided to go out of a walk. She had reached the park and was sitting down on the bench when Kaeda came walking up to her.

“Kaeda.” Tera said, catching his attention from the snowy ground. She motioned for him to sit on the other side of the bench. He did so without a word. He was quiet for a long time until Tera said, “Thanks for saving me, Kaeda.”

Kaeda mumbled. Tera looked at him, confused. “By saving you I was only saving myself for now. That thing will take some time to plan. Then it’ll come after me and the Craftlord again. It’ll kill them all, one by one, just like they killed my father.”

Tera thought of Razzy, Baizhe’s mother, and Pratty, who had always been friendly and understanding to her. “I won’t let that happen.” Tera said. “We won’t let that happen.” She looked at Kaeda and smiled.

Kaeda sighed and looked at the ocean. “There’s not much we can do. This thing killed my dad. It killed Rondeau as well. It also killed my mom.” Kaeda slammed his hand down onto the cold surface of the bench. “It has so much power. There’s no possible way anyone could defeat it.”

Tera began to get irritated. Was he underestimating her? “How do you know? We got away from it tonight!” She put her arms out with anger. Suddenly she realized how she had been referring to the two of them as “we” for a while now, and put her hand down on the bench, having it unexpectedly fall on top of Kaeda’s. She jerked it away as soon as it happened. “Sorry.” She said.

“Don’t worry. It’s not a bad thing.” Kaeda said. He was looking away.

Tera got up and left him there, and walked back to Rumari’s house, where she laid in her guest bed and remembered what Kaeda had said to her before she got taken by the creature. She blushed, but she hid her face under the blanket, and was soon asleep.

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 4-1

Tera awoke to Rumari violently shaking her. “Wh-What’s the matter, Master Rumari?” Tera said sleepily.

“You’re going to be late for the ship.” Rumari said, ceasing from shaking her. “You sleep like a rock.” She added with a playful sigh. Tera giggled a little. Tera got out of the guest bed and noticed that Kaeda’s was empty. She changed out of the baggy sleeping clothes that Rumari had let her wear, and back into her own clothing. She also fixed her hair back into pigtails. With a final wave to Rumari, she walked slowly to the pier.

Kaeda was there alone. He was staring out in the direction of Wystern. Tera walked up to the edge of the pier and kicked one of the posts on the corner. Kaeda poked his spear-tip into the water slightly, bored. After a while of waiting, he finally decided to talk. “So… Would you like to hear about how my mother died?”

Tera kicked the post once more before sitting down on the edge. “Sure.” She said simply, noticing that there were grey clouds moving in from the horizon. Instead of looking at Kaeda during his story, she would be watching the clouds and the horizon. She really wanted to get home.

And it was then that Kaeda began to tell the story of how his mother died.

----Flashback: Jasphee----

Jasphee moved her long, brown hair out of her right eye’s vision, leaving the left one slightly covered. She walked slowly down the road to the Central Tower of the City of Swords, otherwise known as Wystern. Her hair went down half-way to her elbows, and flowed behind her as she walked.

There wasn’t much she could do about the heat in Wystern; she was used to the cold of Vance. She had on the thinnest long-sleeved shirt she could find, and even then she was still sweating. But if these other people draped in leather could stand it, so could she.

She walked up to the second story of the Central Tower, where Ureksa was waiting to see her. He walked over to her and took some of her luggage for her. “It’s nice finally getting to move here, isn’t it?” Ureksa asked as they were on the way to her house on the newly finished third story.

“Well, not really. I’m not used to being surrounded by ocean on all sides. I don’t like the heat, and all this metal is giving me a headache.” Jasphee replied quietly.

“At least you have your loving husband here with you.” Ureksa said, smiling slightly. Jasphee smiled as well, and they went to go move in the rest of Jasphee’s stuff.

Years had passed since then, and Jasphee had given birth to a baby boy. She had named him Kaeda. He was 9 years old now, and he looked almost exactly like his father had when he was little. Kaeda was being trained to use a spear In battle by both of his parents. Jasphee knew all that she knew of swords from her sister-in-law, Rumari. She had been a friend of Rumari’s for quite a while before meeting Ureksa.

The family had decided to go to Vance for a vacation in the middle of summer. Once there, they went to the forest behind the town. The forest there was unknown to most people, as it looked extremely dense from first glance from the town. However, it got less dense further in, as if it was trying to keep something inside somehow.

Kaeda had wandered away from his parents to go exploring in the forests. He had found a shrine with some writing on it, but all he could read that wasn’t unreadable was: “break the statue.”

---End Flashback---

“I-I don’t remember anything from there, other than a foggy memory of that thing killing my mom.” Kaeda said, his gaze drooping to the water nearer to the pier.

“So…. What if that statue was what kept the thing sealed? Like how Parista used to be sealed down in the Labyrinth twenty years ago?” Tera asked. The cloud she had been watching was getting very close now, and there was still no sign of the ship.

“I’ve thought about that. I think it did. That’s why I feel that all this stuff happening is my fault. I caused all this….” Kaeda said quietly.

“So should we end your life now?” A middle-aged man said from behind them. Kaeda and Tera shot up from the pier, and turned to face the man. They were ready for battle.

He was standing at the beginning of the pier. The man had a hat covering his head, an it drooped down so that his face was hidden in the shadow of it. He was wearing a brown coat and a black business suit. Next to him was a small girl who looked about 8 years old. She was wearing a pink-and-white coat, and she was hopping from pink-shoed foot to pink-shoed foot.

“We got you now, Kaeda! You finally admitted it!” The girl said. She pulled out a weapon from her back. It was a bow, one of the rarest weapons you could find a technique for, much less someone who had the skill to make and use them. She pulled out an arrow and aimed at Kaeda’s head. She smiled with anticipation.

“Not you two again.” Kaeda said. “Tera, these people are bounty hunters hired by someone to find the person that caused this thing to appear. Their names are Byron and Xeriye.”

“So kind of you to remember, Kaeda.” Xeriye fired the arrow at Kaeda’s head; he barely dodged in time. “After all these years I would have thought you had forgotten.” She giggled. “I can’t wait to see blood pouring out of your thick head.” She pushed back her short, blonde hair and pulled out another arrow. She was about to fire it when she looked past Tera and Kaeda and saw a boat approaching. Fast.

“Byron. We have to leave. Now.” She said, putting away her bow and arrow and jumping back to the town with amazing agility. Byron followed.

“Was… Was that girl Baizhe’s age? How could she be a bounty hunter?” Tera asked as the boat approached, oblivious to the situation they were obviously in.

“No, actually. She’s 18. Her growth is stunted genetically.” Kaeda said, the two of them getting on the boat. “And she’s dangerous. She has a liking of blood and death.” Kaeda was about to go inside the main cabin as he remembered something. “Oh, and Tera? Everything that happened here is top secret.”

Summon Night – Twenty Years Later
Day 4-1 – Inara and Shouro

“Welcome back, Master.” Several demon-like summon creatures bowed as the shadowy figure returned to the depths of the cavern called the “Abyss”. They were all in a line, as if they had been waiting.

“Shouro, I would like a status report on the prisoners.” The shadowy figure ordered, walking further into the cavern, where many other demon-like summon creatures were working on various things.

One of the summon creatures who had been bowing got up and followed, leaving the rest waiting at the entrance to the workspace, still bowing. “One refused to give us information, so we tortured him. He is dead, Master.”

“Such a shame they won’t cooperate.” He wiped his finger across a red part of the cavern wall, and rubbed two fingers together, revealing that it was dried blood. “I’m sure you used the proper tools…. Or am I being too trusting in you, Shouro?” He turned to Shouro, who’s arms were behind his back.

“Of course, Master. You can always count on me to deliver the exact orders you give me.” The shadowy figure eyed Shouro’s menacingly smiling face over for a moment, then began to walk away.

“I have a mission for you, Shouro. A rather important one.” He said.

“Yes sir? What mission would it be?” Shouro said, beginning to hover in the air next to his master with hidden excitement.

“First, fetch Inara.” He said, looking out at the rest of the demon-like summon creatures doing their various jobs.

“Of course, sir.” Shouro hovered back to where the other servants were still bowing, and touched one on the head with his index claw. “Inara, we have a mission.”

The summon creature he had touched on the head was a special one indeed. Both her and Shouro were the only ones working for their master (the only ones in existence, so far as anyone knew) who could transform into perfect replicas of modern humans. “We do?! This is gonna be great!” Inara said happily, flying off in the direction of their master, Shouro following behind, an annoyed look on his face.

“Inara and Shouro. You two are the only ones who have the ability to transform into humans. I want you two to go into the city of Wystern disguised in your human forms, and make friends with this girl, Tera. She is an annoyance, and I believe she has important information. Once you gather as much information as you can, report back to me. Do not let anyone discover who you really are. Once this is all over, the girl and her friends will be killed by you two, so remember, this girl is the enemy. She will never be your real friend. Understand?”

“Yes, Master.” Shouro said, bowing. He elbowed Inara to do the same.

Inara fiddled with her claws before saying, “Sir, yes sir! I will perform this task to the best of my ability, Master Iarao!” She saluted.

Once Shouro and Inara exited the cave into the snowy forest of Vance, Shouro hit Inara on the head quite hard. “Don’t mess this up for me this time, Inara. Remember your orders and don’t cause any unnecessary actions to happen.”

Inara rubbed her head, moving her long, white hair around. “Okay, okay. I’m sorry for messing up your mission before, Shouro. I won’t do it again.” She stared around the snowy forest with her red eyes. “Is it true that none of the others have been to Wystern before, big brother?”

Shouro flapped his red wings before transforming into his human form. He was practically the same, except his tail, wings and claws were gone, his eyes were no longer red, and his red markings were gone. He scratched his head with his fingers, as if he missed the scratching his claws used to be able to give. “Yes. That’s why it’s a very special mission. Now come on, we have to get there by tomorrow morning.”

Inara began to walk through he forest, transforming little by little. She hadn’t perfected transforming fast enough, so it took a few minutes. First, her black tail disappeared. Then, her black wings. Her eyes went brown, her black markings went away, her white, scaly skin went peach and smooth, and she removed the large red-and-black bow from her lower back.

They walked into town to see an old man and a young-looking girl jump away from the pier. They looked over in the direction of the pier to see a boy and a girl getting on a boat. Inara, in her new human form, ran to them. “Hey! You two! Can we have a lift? We need to get to Wystern.”

“Sure, come on.” The girl said. After some introductions, she turned out to be the person they were looking for, Tera. Her friend was named Kaeda, and two more of her friends were named Carriye and Baizhe.

“I’m Inara, and this is my brother, Shouro.” Inara explained. “We’re going to visit our aunt in Wystern for a while. We also heard about the Tournament there, so we might want to watch some matches.”

“Kaeda and I are still in the Tournament.” Tera said, smiling. “You can come to our matches, if you’d like.”

“Sure!” Inara said, smiling back.

Once they were in Wystern, the two demons in-disguise went to the graveyard and found a secret cavern where they could sleep during the nights they would spend at Wystern. Inara looked around the graveyard cavern, and smiled at the bloodstain on the floor. She had a feeling there would be a matching one right next to it soon after a while.
