Ok, well, I'm trying to scratch a Dragon, and it has scales, but everytime I put them on it, it's goes to ****. I want to learn. Anyone got something to help? |

Since scales are so small, yet seem to all be slightly at different angles, I would use a considerable amount of dithering. Imagine a disco ball when shading, little squares in different positions of light. |

Just a side note to Ilex, unless you want a crazy sprite in which you can't see much, always make scales' outlines light. |

Don't really draw them. Scales are usually very small and inimportant. Make occasional zigzags to indicate where the scales are, but shade the rest normally. Oh, yes, and dither too. |

Yes I agree. You might want to use 1 simple shade and draw the slight outline of them, Then just add a highlight tone to each scale, making them each shine. |
