Just asking all you Christians... How the **** can you believe in God? No offense, but I can't fathom there being anything omnipresent (with the exception of the universe, but it's not a God and I'll go over that in a different topic). |

This is exactly the reason i don't have a religion. I don't beleive that someone can be omnipresent. |

I'm agnostic. Its relatively creepy, the thought of somebody watching you everywhere. But technically, there's no way to prove there is or isn't, so that's why I stand where I do. |

In some cases like mine, you are raised to belive in God, and are in a community that if you think differently you are socialy shunned. |

So you believe but you don't really? I, as an agnostic, believe it might be that a God exists. I decided not to believe in it for lack of proof, but I know that doesn't mean anything. There's no proof for psychic powers and such, and I still believe it is possible. But still, I doubt this god, if it exists, is the theistic god. I'd guess at the deistic god, or even more probably the pantheistic god Seika seems to believe in. But personally, I believe in no god at all. To clear up: - Theism: There is a supernatural intelligence (god) that created the Uiverse and watches over it, with a particular connection to humans. - Deism: There is a god that created the Universe, but that's all he did. He didn't do anything else after making up laws and setting things in motion. - Pantheism: There is no supernatural intelligence. 'God' is only used as a metaphor for Nature, the Universe, or the Laws of either. (Several scientists are/were pantheists, like Einstein.) - Atheism: Nothing at all. (From the first chapter of The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.) |

That's the thing about faith, Seika. You just kinda...believe. Nothing really to it. |

Well, I guess. XD My whole life I've been told what to belive and why. I don't know what to think of religion anymore. Especially hearing my religion go against my own personal beliefs. Its complicated... |

You know, what I hate most about religion is precisely that: people who don't really believe in it are forced to believe just because that's how they grew up, and that's how the comminity expects them to be. The best would be for nobody to grow up into any religion, but learning about all of them, being allowed to construct their own, and even go with none at all. I hate the fact that I am baptized. I should find a way to get officially excommunicated :D |

That's why I'm an atheist. I really don't think anybody could have that power over mankind. |

How about I ask you the question why don't you believe in God? What proof do you have that this thing people believe in is not real? Honestly, I don't know. Just because something is unlikely, it doesn't mean it's not there or can't happen. I'm not going to believe in something that know one actually knows whether it's there or not, the same way I'm not going to not believe in something when there's no solid evidence against it. |

Ow. Being the positive, happy-go-lucky guy I am, I'd have to say that Christianity's played a major role in my life. I was raised a Christian by my lovely parents, and because my mother is deeply spiritual [sometimes it kinda gets annoying when she wants me to listen to slow Christan music >_>], I'm the kind little Digdig you see nao. :D At any rate, I believe in the bible, the resurrection, all that good stuff. I'm glad PMF's mature, or else I'd be in flame war hell by now. Even so, don't break out the pitchforks and torches. I'm not heavily spiritual, I simply believe and love God. Don't shoot me. I guess everyone needs something to believe in, Sei. n_n |

diggeh is right. Believe in what you will, it wont change much about yourself, it only changes other people around you, and how they react to you. but on top of that, i guess im pantheist then, but really, i dont believe in a god....sorry if insulted though |

*gets out a pitchfork* JK. Here's why God doesn't exist. If he created man, and he is a man (regardless of the fact that he's huge and glowy), how did he create man? He can't create himself. |

There must be no way a higher being could ever exist? How do you know God's a man? How do we know it's a he? In a Futurama God was just a big sparkly thing in space. If it was to exist, it could be a seal for all we know. (Using Futurama is the best way to prove a point in a debate, lol) So, ignore the 'God created man' bit and give me another reason that it doesn't exist or ever did. |

I believe going by one of the above posts I'm a pantheist. I shall quote, "If you believe it, you will see it". Similarly, if you don't believe it, your mind will start churning out reasons as to why it doesn't exist. This can be applied to the debate we are currently on. Unforced Christians will believe there is a God, a higher being, something of great power always watching over them. Atheists will believe that there is no such thing. Everything happened on its own, and it set off a chain reaction making today what it is. Although I label myself a Pantheist, I find myself breaking this sometimes. When I get in a dilemma, I find myself often praying to God for help. This is not intentional, but my mind's ability to calm me down by telling me that something or someone is going to help me get out of this mess. I also often find myself singing Christian hynms and songs when I feel free. Those songs usually calm me down and maintain a clear view of what I want and need to do. As such, I think this debate is pointless; We won't get a conclusion until we die. If Christianity does exist, then we are going to hell for being an Atheist. If it indeed doesn't exist, then we have wasted a whole ton of time going to Church and praying and singing Hynms and the like. This is all my opinion, please don't take it too seriously... I shall take my leave =D |
