Hey guys. Let me start out by saying this web site is awsome. Its nice to have a place to go and look at the other stuff thats out there and maybe get a new idea or two.

Ive had my cadet now for 17 years. I have never been able to get a actual ID on the year and model. We Grandpa bought he was told it was a 72 and when I picked up some part last spring they said it was a 69. Any way its now sitting in the shop completly broke down to re painted and motor gone through. But I found the numbers on the tag o motor and the number stamped into the rearend. Just trying to get some info on this tractor. I plan on building a loader for it and would like to see if there is a pto that goes on this unit or if I am going to have to design something for it. My mower deck is shot. Pulleys have worn out and now one here in Minnesota can get me part.(so the tell me.) So I found your great site and thought maybe someone here can help.

Numbers on motor tag
K-241A-1001841
Spec # 46611D

Numbers on stamped in Rearend on a raised block 112780
Numbers forged in casting are 38508R1
L2

I thank you all for taking the time to read and post here.

First, Welcome to our Forum.......... :Welcome3

The Motor Tag indicates it is a 10HP model Tractor. Thus it would NOT be a model 72 (a 7HP tractor)

How about posting a picture of what you have. That will help us tremdously.

Id be happy to post a pic. Except it is a rolling chasis right now. I just broke down over the weekend. It goes to the sand blasters in a couple of hours. then should be home tomorrow to prime and hopefully be in paint on thursday. As soon as I have it back together ill post pics. Is there any other tags on frame anywhere for these or just the ones on the motor and tranny?

Click on this link..... Cub ID
It has a pictorial of the Models that IH made. Study them closely and see if you can find the one that closely matches what you got. As a clue, the 10 HP models start with 10 (ten) then one more number (ie: 102, 105, etc.)

Its has to be a 100. Thats the closes with stuff mine has on it. How do you post pics? I would like to take a pic of the bare fram as it has hole that are covered up by the console around the steering shaft. Not sure if the holes are a oops from the guy who had it before grandpa. Ill have to take pics of the rear fender with a craftsman seat on it. How do I find out if anyone on here is from my area as they might be able to lead me towards pices I would like to get for mine. I guess I would kinda like to keep stock. But then again my motto is GO BIG or GO HOME. so maybe ill just tweek it. ha ha I am also trying to find out if a PTO shaft was a option for this model as my dad and grandpa thought I could remove the rearend cover to put a shaft on this unit.
Thanks everyone this is going to be a adiction and I can tell everyone on here fuels each others addiction.

Ick, I just talked to the local Cub dealer. The guy who runs the part counter has the same motor I do in my cub and said not to waste my time rebuilding it just drop the 1200.00 on a new motor. that just takes the fun out of it. I think I am still going to tear it down and rebuild it. Its not that much for the parts. My motor didnt smoke so I am not thinking I should find anything wrong it just needs to be freshened up as its getting a little tired. The only thing I do need to find is a new Carter N carb as the one that on there the top linkage is SHOT, it has so much slop in it am not sure how the thing keeps running. Clutch, how hard are the to do. It worked when I parked it then the next day i started it pushed in the peddle and nothing but grinding.

Wouldn't a good salesman say its not worth rebuilding !!! I'm with you Re-build it and enjoy doing it!! I just tore down the clutch in my 70 and it wasn't actually to hard to tear down, actually very simple. If you have a camera take before pictures for when you put it back together, I didn't but was advised to look in the manual, witch is good advice for me ! I tend to look in the cub cadet parts look up that not always "shows" all the parts but will list them, which was the case for my 70. Your 100 is a grown up 70 the only difference I'm aware of is the 100 has a 10 hp and a 70 has a 7 hp. Do you really want to rebuild it, I have a tendency that I've curbed lately to really tear into things that didn't need tearing into, LOL. I AM NOT saying you do, but was wondering if you checked the valves, etc. I have the 7hp on my bench that I've never ran but something in me wants to tear it apart. Just friendly advice. I have a 12 hp out of a 123 I'm fixing up and I decided to remove this and that and the engine ran,now I need gaskets. I think you can get a throttle repair kit for the loose shaft on the carb, not sure if there available for all carbs but might be worth looking into.

Good luck

I agree with Jason. I would say your old K Series motor is junk if I wanted to sell you a $1200 new motor.

If you do the work yourself, I would say you can easily rebuild your Motor starting at around $300.00

However, the decision is yours.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
