I have an antique?? walking plow that belonged to my grandfather. All I can find on it is M-H. Just above that it says P1818. And on the other side it says No21. I have searched and searched the internet with little luck. Kind of hoping for more info, example age etc. Anyone any suggestions I could follow up on?? |

OK I have one response till we get pictures. One guy says it is an Oliver # 21 walk behind plow , used behind tractors to bust up really tough ground ?? [Return to Forum] Author [expand] [Modern View] Old Roy Report to Moderator Fella is calling it a "walking plow" I am asuming a horse drawn plow. On one side is the letters M-11 and close to that P 1818. The other side has, No. 21 Any idea as to age , and who manufactured it ? Thanks ! [Reply] [No Email] off Report to Moderator Re: Horse plow info anyone ? in reply to Old Roy, 03-10-2009 15:32:08 Oliver #21 plow. Walk-be-hind tractor pulled used to bust up really tough ground. Report to Moderator Re: Horse plow info anyone ? in reply to Old Roy, 03-10-2009 15:32:08 a walking plow would be pulled by the horse as the farmer walked behind, a sulky plow would be one that the farmer rode while being pulled by a horse. a picture would be helpful. |

Thanks guys. I will get wife to take some pictures this weekend, and then the next challenge will to be get posted here. I've never yet been successful. It belonged to my grandfather. But I haven't anyone left to ask that would have any knowledge of it. I would guess it would date back to the 1930's if not before. |

This looks like a Massey-Harris horse drawn turning plow. I grew up using a plow similar to this one only the one we used had a swivel device which let you plow going back and forth in the same furrow. We used two large horses to pull the plow. You would hitch the horses to the plow using two 'single trees' and one 'double tree'. You probably have to be in your late 60's or early 70's to have worked using one of these plows. This was back in the late 40's and early to mid 50's. Larry |

Thanks for your input. This has no swivel device on it. My grandfather passed away in 71 at age 85. He had pretty much given up the farming at least two decades before that, and I'm sure plowing long before that. I suspected early thirties for an build date---but that is just a guess. I'm going to sell it, but am looking for any input I can get. Thanks again. |
