Got some fun pics of the 1872 super now that she is in use. I pushed a little snow today and must say a few things.
1st: Man this is a powerful and fast little tractor!!! This old school 18hp kohler and hydro will pull a couple of the new 24+27 hp Big box gt's around backwards at an idle. No comparison at all! We have a long drive and a 3/10 of a mile private road to clear. Today a neighbor beat me to it with a skid loader. My tractor had no problems at all pushing the big piles he made with the loader around. As far as the road I cleaned the sides up a little. This thing will push a full of heavy snow 54" blade (45 degree angle) down the road at scary speeds. My old 18hp mtg t would not push a full blade of this snow(need to sick to 1/2 a bite) and the super wasn't even breathing hard. The top speed in forward is much faster than the advertised 8mph. It also moves my M416 military trailer like it was a yard cart.

Best custom hitch for a cubby, I'm gonna get a lot of use out of this:

I had been reading your posts on the restoration of this tractor and I enjoyed it so much I had to join the site! Your tractor came out great.

My 1862 has the M18 in it as well and I haven't run out of power yet even when it was running poorly. I have almost 800 hours on it and it was really worrying me, but is now running great. When I got it from the previous owner, it was running rich and smoking to the point it was almost hard to breathe around it (not so visible, but acrid) and, of course, it backfired on shut down. But after a thorough cleaning of the carb and adjustment, all is much better. I'm not embarrassed to clear my neighbor's driveway of snow and let it idle and chat a while about the weather. I really love it now.

The only remaining issue is gas consumption. I think I am getting about 30 minutes at WOT per gallon running a 451 blower (just a guesstimate). Maybe this is why my tractor has a 5 gallon tank ;)

Since you have a new engine, I am curious if you are seeing this kind of thirsty behavior?

PS the pintle ball mount is a great idea and just what I need from my small boat trailer.

That's pretty normal for an M18...opposed twin flathead engines are thirsty. That's about what the fuel consumption on my M18-powered 782 is. My 582, which has a Command 18 OHV V-twin seems to use about 2/3 the fuel of an M18.

Mamas fine just the bug that's going around.
The trailer is a 1967 m416 1/4 ton military. I restored it a few years ago. Sandblasted to bare metal and herculiner on inside and painted outside. I've had it for close to 20 years and it has earned it's keep well. I just found a great source of firewood. A coworker of the wife has had 12 acres logged and needs the tops cleaned up and my wood pile is bare. So it hauled a good bit this weekend and will be for the next few weekends. I normally try to store about 6 cords and only use 1.5 -2 a year so I'm stocking up. That trailer is normally behind the truck not the tractor but it will be nice to move that and my boat around with out using the truck. My old lawn cart is about dead so now I have a big cart.
I have heard these things are thirsty but with about 1.5 hours on it I can't say yet. But it does seem to be a torquey thing.
This wasn't really a resto just a fixer up. No paintwork or cosmetics done just get er back in decent shape. I still have work to do. Haven't fitted up the snow blower yet. or tried the deck. It needs a little work. Small crack where left front wheel was banged into who knows what that need to be welded. Maybe a patch on the left side. looks like the PO dragged it against concrete sidewalk or something and sanded the side a bit. Not bad just need a little reinforcing.
It's also nice to have some REAL head and tail lights instead of a couple of turn signal bulbs behind plastic for headlights. As it always seems to be dark by the time I get home and have to plow the road in winter.

Thank you Squatch and Matt for your insights on the M18.

I think I read somewhere that the M18 uses so much gas that it effectively keeps it cool. How's that for a liquid cooled twin!

Sorta, It's a sticker for a local HUGE JD and CUB dealer. Some previous owner must have had it serviced there not long ago as the stickers look pretty new. Or maybe it was bought there used. I don't really know the history of this tractor. Stickers! They plastered the dang things all over the tractor. Like a green fungus. Of course they are quaility sticker that won't come off with out taking off the paint. Maybe with a heat gun. The tractor had a JD tranny oil filter on it as well. Must have been installed by a gorilla or a JD mechanic. Gave me fits getting it off.

don't know what part of Md. your from That sticker say Finches INC. on it?

They have 4 stores one in Westminster Pa , one in Hanover Pa and recently Irwin Pa The store in Md. Is in around Baltimore. They had mostly Big JD stuff but also sold lots of Cub Cadets They also dealt with Kobota till Cub Cadet said they had to make a choice as to what franchise was better for them. {They now sell Cub Cadet] and left the Kobota dealership go.

Sorry to mention all these :OffTopic tractors but it goes to show you that a green dealership has a soft spot for yellow and white

Hey Jim you must be in my neighborhood. I'm near Westminster. My kid played football in high school with one of the Finch boys. I've never done bussiness with them though. The other Cub dealer is on my way home from work. Don't get me wrong I just like good tools and don't really care what color they are painted. I do seem to be coming down with "yellow fever" though. My brother in law lives next door and has a JD 2210(from Finches). I do give him the rasberries over it alot though. I guess it just carried over to here. Back when I was a kid doing farm work I was kinda partial to IH though. Both the light trucks and the tractors. I grew up near Louisville, KY and knew quite a few folks that worked for IH before they went under.
