That's My biggest cmplaint with the cork used in that application, it compresses and then takes a set, and leaks. That's why Richard's synthetic material gasket is such a good idea. It resisits the heat, oil, and compression better than cork, actually the bark off a tree ever will. Companies have learned a BUNCH about sealing gaskets since these CC's were made. Years ago valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, timing chain gaskets were all made from cork. And engines ALL leaked. First pair of rubber encapsulated steel valve cover gaskets I bought for a 5.0L HO GT Mustang were BEASTLY expensive, over $50 for the pair compared to $10/pair for the cork OEM gaskets. Turned out a be a GREAT bargain, no more oil leaks, and the gaskets were reused several times. Custom molded o-rings are another great design development of the last 15-20 yrs. They fit into a groove in one of the mating parts and allow the parts to be bolted solid and provide positive sealing not letting oil/water/whatever out or dirt in.
