New tines for the Model 1 Tiller; The old tines were shot

Decided to bring the tiller in and put a new set of tines on (a great Christmas gift from my parents) before spring gets here. Took some PB Blaster and a long breaker bar, but I got it done. Wire wheeled the bolts, ran a tap through the nuts, and put anti-seize compound on bolts when I put it back together. I ran out of time, so i didn't get to finish it, but it's in the garage waiting for when I get a chance. I think the new tines will make a big difference in how well it works this year. Thanks for looking, Jason

Here's a short video of the 73 and tiller at work in the garden last year. My dad's driving and my grandpop was raking out big rocks.

Jason,
My father works for a Cub Cadet Dealer, so that's where he got the tines. I'm not sure about the video. When i look at it on my computer it comes right up. Good luck getting yours replaced. jason

Diz,
Yeah, I'm hoping that I won't have to do that job again for many more years. This year I'll have the brinly plow on my 73 and the tiller on my 1250. That way I won't have to swap out implements and hold up the garden project. Also got a new walk behind one row planter to use. Can't wait for the garden. Thanks again, Jason

jfinney,

Sounds like your going to have a real nice operation going on when you start. Be able to jump off of one and right on the other and keep going. :High5

Hope you get lots of pictures when the time comes. :D

Acecil, thanks for your nice comments. I plan on taking videos of the moldboard plow and tiller at work this spring. I'll post those when I get around to it. Now all I need is some more time to get the rest of the tines switched out...don't know when that's gonna be. Time seems to be at a premium. Thanks again, Jason

Wow! What a difference on those tines! I bet that will make the tilling job go a bit faster this spring. I am getting the fever now too. Been planning that garden for a couple of weeks now.

Well, finally got a chance to finish putting the new tines on today. Now I'm ready for spring...first I'll have to deal with the Nor'easter we're supposed to get tonight into tomorrow! Yeah, some seat time on the tractors! Jason

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
