Fuel Injection Problem

Just rebuilt the wifes '78 Super Beetle engine. Now I can not get it to run and I think it is in the ECU for the fuel injection as I am not getting any fuel squirting out of the injectors while cranking the engine.

I have checked the following;

1. Timing - OK
2. Firing Order - OK
3. Fuel pump - OK
4. Double Relay - OK

If I squirt a little fuel in the throttle body it will fire but not continue to run. I pulled the injectors out and when the engine is cranking there is no fuel coming out of the injectors.

I read in the Idiot's manual that you should not jump start or put a battery charger on the battery as the increased voltage could damage the ECU. Well crap as I had the charger on the battery for a while as I wanted to turn the engine over for a bit to ensure I had oil pressure and distrubution of oil before I actually fired the thing up.

I also read that there is no way to test the ECU.

Any ideas? or does someone have a good ECU laying around in their pile of parts?

Mine is part number 043 906 021D

Thanks,

Mike

You are absolutely and undeniably correct sir!, Had a wire on the wrong side of the distributor. Fired right up after moving the wire to the correct side. I guess that is why I am not an Electrical Engineer.

Thanks Jim, next meeting dinner is on me, what is your favorite brew? I will send you home with a care package!

Thanks again,

Mike

I read in the Idiot's manual that you should not jump start or put a battery charger on the battery as the increased voltage could damage the ECU.

This is quite true. Back when I was driving my 914 in the 80's I burned up an ECU from charging the battery while it was connected. Part of the chain reaction of failures that ended with me parking the car 22 years ago. :(
