I just purchased a 66' Manx clone last week, and I swapped in a 1641cc stroker. The engine runs fine, but now my problem is the accelerator. It is completely rusted to the point that I actually bent the arm that the roller is on by pressing down too hard. The rust on the pedal assembly seems to be pretty bad, and I dont know if I can repair the assembly or if I need to just buy a new one. I am also having problems feeding the new throttle cable through the tube in the chassis. It gets a couple feet in then just stops. I've had no luck getting it to go through. The other thing I could use some help with is cutting my rear glass to accomodate my taller carb/air filter. I can use a sawzall pretty well on steel fenders, but I would rather have someone with some skill in it help me cut mine. The only other VW I have worked on up to this point is a 72 Westy, hence why I have no clue how the roller pedal even works on this thing
 . Any help would be appreciated, and even repaid with cold beer! Help! -Wes |

where are you at? the deal with most manx type buggies, is that the pan typically has 14" removed/hacked/cut out in some manner. depending on how yours was done, may determine how well other things fit and work, as the clutch cable, throttle cable, brake cables, fuel line, hard brake line, etc, are all affected. i'll be in OKC 11mar-01apr, and i'm not opposed to lending a hand. |

Well I got everything working now, and I cut the rear last night to make room for the carb. I noticed the left side of the engine was ticking pretty bad so I adjusted the valves. When I started her up this morning she ran like crap and wouldn't idle well. I'm not sure if its because its 47 degrees out here, or if I screwed something up. Anyone here familiar with Bugspray carbs? I would like for someone to help me tune this thing, put a dwell meter on it, check the timing, etc. to get it running top notch. I'm not real familiar with tuning engines...especially VW ones.. |

Pitch the bugspray. They are so old and wore out. Stock is better than those. And im a lil confused on ur engine size. Unless there is something else that size is not a stroker, just bigger piston/cyl |

I ended up taking it down to Don Kerr in Purcell. He went through it and got it running nicely. I'm not sure whats in this engine, but he said the reason it idles with a lope may be from an aftermarket cam. She's running great now! I just need to get everything else street legal. I had a choice between the Bugspray and a Weber progressive. I have heard good and bad things about both, but decided to go with the Bugspray anyways. Don rejetted it for me and got it nice and cleaned out. It should work just fine until I get a dual carb setup. Now that she's running well, the next step is to figure out why all my lights suddenly stopped working Jim, I think you may be the guy who sold me a bus engine a year or so ago. Do you live out towards Choctaw? |
