well i have a 1958 single cab and i also have a 1969 baywindow i am clueles when it comes to the gears and the rear end so my question is what do i do? any segestions on if i should change the gears to irs if i am puting a single port 1600 motor in it, and if so then how do i go about doing that can i use anything off of the 69. Next is if i do put irs in it then what is the best way to lower the front.thats all i have as far as gears go but i have many other questions i kinda feel like i am in way over my head on this one so any help would b great.
one other thing this sc needs alot of body work and if anyone knows someone that is good at it and wheeling to teach or do it for cheap please let me know
thanks,

Robby

depends what type of driving you are wanting to do.
the easiest would be to use a later model beetle transmission or alittle more $$ get the beetle tranny rebuilt to freeway flier and your stock axles.

if you want to lower it then use T3 rear setup and flip your front spindles (150.00ish)

IRS is nice but a pain, there are BOLT on kits to use beetle IRS ($$$!!), you can use baywindow stuff but that requires substantial fabrication and measuring.

BODYWORK, there is no such thing as cheap AND good.

I have a dropped '62 double cab

*Front

-I have flipped spindles from a guy named Rizzag on the samba
-I also am running a CB narrowed front beam w/ adjusters

*Rear

-I'm running Wagen's West modified rear spring plates this allows you to directly bolt up a (long axle/long spline tranny) these can be found in '68 bug only or any swing axle Type-3

-As far as the gearing.......

If you're running a 165 on the rear you need a 4.12 r&p w/ the stock gearing

The only way to run a freeway flier w/ a 3.88 r&p and a .82 4th gear is to run a very small rear tire and/or a stroker motor w/ A lot of torque.

(I run a 1776 & 165 tires)

As for the body work question if you are wanting to do it for a reasonable cost and you are not looking for show quality work and you have time to wait then you might check out Latino's body shop at 608 S. Walker. He did the body work and paint on our bug and was a few thousand less then other body shops. The work is not concour show quality but it is very acceptable for local shows and as a daily driver. I was happy with the work but it took him a while to get it all done. Melvin is the head guy there. Here is a link to an article on his operation.

Another option is to take the body shop class at Metro Tech on South Bryant, I took the class at night and it was very informative. Towards the end they let you work on your own project, they have all the tools and a paint booth, you just have to provide the supplies for your personal project.

It depends on how bad the body damage is. I know someone that is good at body work and painting. I know a lot about body work and a little about painting..
I might be able to help you out with some of your problems depending on where your at. I'm in OKC... B)

if its the euro semaphore truck then yes. What did you end up paying for it?
If you want to sell it let me know I have $ now.

I think Earl Mann's is in Ardmore. I've never been there I just heard that he's really good and Fast.
