Do you guys keep your flaps inside the fan shroud? In Cali I just took them out but out here? Has anyone ever had problems with the thermostat? I will use this as a daily driver. <_<

That is what I thought. I'm starting to clean the tins so I think that I will ditch those. And I got my parts in the machine shop today. :D

Do you drive your bug in the winter? How was it then?

It takes a couple blocks before I can be assured that it won't die at stop signs but after that, no problems. Just practice using the brake and gas peddle at the same time ... not that hard really.

Same here, I took mine out way back in the '80's, when it was conventional wisdom. Haven't used them since. I even use a Ram Flow shroud with no problems. Gotta get good at the "heel & toe" maneuver to keep the gas and brakes on at the same time (heel on gas, toe on brake) to keep it from dying for awhile in the winter.

I had to do that with my 70 in Ohio but I don't know if it had the flaps in or not. I'm not going to put them in this one.

does your choke work? I lived in ohio for 2 years and drove a 57 rag daily. never had problems with it dying.... the heaqt risers are alot more important than the flaps for driveability... the flaps I beleive aid more in the heat/ defrost department.

The choke works when the car is first started but it is fully open (closed? off? whatever) after about 2 minutes. The heat riser is the tube coming up to the air cleaner, right? Anywayz ... I ain't got one.

heat risers go from the exhaust to the intake under the carb to transfer heat and keep the intake from icing up and causing atomization problems.
