dude you have no idea chromoly push rods do not expand stock ones do vw engines expand .002 to .006 per side depending on temp so if you have chromoly pushrods you can set em at or near 0 thats why you adj cold if you adj when hot guess what the engine shrinks back and then the valves are now tight hence adj valves when cold

this guy has a stock engine asshat.
and you just contradicted yourself.
reread the last page.
I was the one that reminded you that valves get tighter when hot. and even when I ran chromoly pushrods in the fast ENGINES* I built I would set them at .002 to be safe because the head studs still expand dipshit. yes this doesn't matter on a racecar you dial in every run but on a street car I still set them at .002 with chromoly pushrods.
do yourself a favor and return from where you came.
you poked at me first... I was being nice.

*he calls engines "MOTORS"

i set mine at .002 also thats not the point valves are tighter when cold unless you overheat the engine the point with the.000 was that the engine expands then if you check it you will see that you have .003 to .006 depending on temp again point is valves are tightest when cold

this sounds like a good topic and bam you dont need to be nice to me you made a a** of yourself   stick to paint but wear a mask and save what you got i did your test i figured what the hell you are so sure just maby there was a slight chance .00001% that i could have been wrong about this i came up with .004 ex .006 in cold and .010 ex and .012 in hot but who knows maby this engine is jacked up .00001%   :P

Wow ... didn't know such a simple subject could turn into such a heated (pun intended) debate. Of course I don't have chromoly pushrods so they do expand. I don't know why it should be hard to see that the valves will get tighter at running temperature when all the metal in the engine expands.

I will let y'all know what happens when I adjust points, plugs and timing again. I appreciate the offer of help and will probably take you up on it if this doesn't fix it. You can't beat free!

LOl that is funny stuff, jr. its like hearing a similar thing said, but with 3 or 4 different statistics about it.
more when hot, less when hot, blah blah! hahaha

Mike hope in all this mess youve gotten some ideas of things to check!!

You should just come by someones house who is closer to check, its hard to troubleshoot over this.

if valves had less clearance when cold wouldn't that make them pretty damn noisy when the engine warms up??? wouldn't you then want to set them when the engine was hot?
is Jr. the only one that doesn't realize he's not making sense?
